Back up and try it. Decide for yourself. Everyother day or so someone starts a rom war post. You should go look at some of them.

CyanogenMod is like stock froyo on steroids with out any of the sense features or eye candy. Its a really good rom though. I go back and forth between the two.

You are gonna have to decide that for yourself..each ROM has its own pros and cons
I echo the sentiment of "Try some out for yourself" but I had CM6.0 on my G1 before moving to my G2 and I liked it. Very stable but the Market never quite worked right (FC's, apps not DLing for whatever reason, etc), other than that I loved its customizability. It ran pretty quickly on my G1 as well, for whatever it's worth.

So I am a VERY inexperienced user with making roms. So I plan on using evo kitchen to cook up a rom for myself and others who wish to test it. I would like to know what the most preferred rom base is.

That will be a personal choice. If you ask me, it's Fresh, but that's really the only one I've used consistently. Somebody else will say DamageControl, or Baked Snack, or even the stock 2.2 ROM.
This is a hit or miss and it goes by the user, I have used them all!!! I prefer cm6 right now because with a few teaks it runs so smooth...but right now I'm running Baked Snack and its been flawless all day long!!!All the ROM's out are pretty stable right now so its all up to the user!!!
On that note, what's the attraction to cooking your own ROM? Is it so hard to just find the one that's close to your needs and add/remove the apps you like manually? Or is there more to it?
My main three are...
-- CM6
-- DC 3.5
-- Fresh 3.1.0.1

Nothing like that. I'm some what bored and this is my first android phone so I wanna put stuff together and eventually learn to make a rom without using a kitchen.

I've had a great time with DamageControl 3.5 ever since it's been released. CM6 has been fantastic as well. Decisions, decisions.....

Well that's valid. I climb mountains because they're there.
I've run every rom available since launch day (save the last three CM nightlies)and i'd say there are some seriously talented devs on EVO.
That said, Baked Snack is hands down the best 2.1 rom available. Bar none the best battery life of any rom out, stable and fast.
As far as Froyo, I was switching between roms daily, but once I flashed Calkulin's EViO 1.0.2 rom I was done messing around. By far my favorite of the 20 or so I have tried. Someone is going to have to come up with something pretty spectacular to get me to switch Cyanogen is a good bet once he quits screwing around with all this pre-alpha stuff LOL.

Just bought my evo 4G and I can't stand HTC sense so what would be the best Rom to put on it, personal preference of course. Also it doesn't have service yet and I wanna flash it with boost mobile does anyone know how to do that? I'm a pretty experienced flasher so I'm not worried.

I highly recommend miui (not sense) and myn's else 5( modded sense). I can't comment on flashing to boost.

No idea on boost but I like mik froyo 4.4 for my rom.
What would be q good gingerbread rom

Personally I think cm7 nightlies are the way to go if you're willing to rough it a little and use a ROM that's in the works. However what works for me may not work for you... I'd go to Dev and try out a few. It doesn't take long to flash a rom and after a couple hours you should be able to know if it'll work for you on a longer term.
yea I'm not a noob at this at all I use the night lies on my mytouch 4g I'm just new to the evo and wanted to get a feel of what the community thought

Hey I'm using the ultimate droid rom for the g2. And it must have got discontinued because I xant find it anywhere. So I'm looking for a replacement rom. Looking for vanilla, no sense (ew). And something with a good kernal maybe the 1.8 or 1.9OC? Anyways looking for better preformance and not a downgrade from what I'm using.

what do you mean by you can't find it anymore...?
http://www.blackdroidmod.com/
I left ud for pyromod. The dev can be a **** though(yeah I said it) . But now I'm on the gingerbread leak for the g2 and perfect after adding a few things. Pyro is good, xboarders stuff is good too, stock gingerbread rocks.
You are aware that xda isn't the only place in the world to get roms right? If you used this crazy new invention called google you wouldn't of even made the discontinued statement

indeed.... UD became blackdroidmod.
can anyone please tell me how this UD rom is better than Cyanogen?

It's got some different options, not sure if it's better than CM7 though. I would wholeheartedly recommend meXdroid or Pyromod here; both are CM7 variants that have great themes with some tweaks to CM7's base. Users of UD would probably feel right at home with either.
Guess I should try this Pyro mod

Also your not going to find any rom comming with a 1.8ghz standard. Thats for advanced users and you need to make it work yourself so you dont fry your phone. I would recomend you stick to 1.5ghz tops. You wont notice any difference anyway unless your trying to compete with quad/linepack scores....
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Well I'm just looking to have it. I run my G2 at 1ghz. I just like having the ability to have more.

Lol sound just like me yesterday. It all depends. In using core droid right now. Still trying to get it sand understand sense. But I'd try that one. The Dev is always around to help. You could also try sense less Romeo or the other one. I may give those a try. Stock look and feel but sense widgets and stuff
Edit= full 3.0 is unity I think
Sent from my G2 coredroid
Is recommend starting with virtuous froyo 1.0.x. reason being the build has been around for long enough and the devs are very dedicated to fixing every single little bug reported.
You can go with one of the more recent and I'd argue more experimental roms based on gingerbread but there are at least a few minor issues that you gotta deal with which might lead you to think that there are fundmental build quality problems with Sense; there isn't.
Happy sensing!

what about virtuous unity based on pyramid? is that a good one? or insertcoin?

and I'm only asking cause I'm too busy to waste time and try out each one.

After seeing so many posts about what rom is the best, I decided that making a poll will hopefully stop threads about what rom I should try, etc etc
Hopefully this stops the virus spreading around here.

CyanogenMod 7
Nothing lets you control your phone like it.
PyroMod. It gets faster and faster with every update (even though it hasn't been updated in nearly two months), A2EXT is automatic and runs smoothly, getting close to 3000 on Quadrant, and no force closes. I'd like to see that ROM ported to future Android devices.
My fav is listed in my sig.
CM7. Fastest ROM I've used.
I use cyanogen mod 7. It is extremely fast and looks really nice. I just recently rooted, so I don't know any other good roms.
MIUI is the one of the roms that is constantly updated and gives you that iPhone UI. Give it a try and you will wanna give up that Rom.

I agree with this, but I have to use MIUI since Virtuous doesn't boot on my phone (no reason, it just doesn't...ever...boot, always goes back to recovery.) CM7 is too full of crap.
I rebuilt my MIUI to be more like Android, aside from the menus, which I like a lot.
Pyromod is really nice, I may end up just going back to that once I've had my fun with MIUI and get sick of the iPhone-ness of it.
CM7, never had an issue with it
