[Q] Restoring to stock rom. - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In the thread - Section 6 "Restoring to stock rom and radio", Step 5: Place the "PB31IMG.zip" file that you downloaded onto the sdcard in the bottom directory. Are they referring to the file downloaded from step 1 in section 6 or the file at the beginning of the thread? The reason I ask is b/c the file downloaded from step 1 isn't named that and I was just curious if I'm suppose to rename it.
Thanks,
KP

The file in step 1 is named PB31IMG.zip, so DL it, put it on the root of your SD card, and boot into HBOOT and let it do it's thing.

That's not actually true, what you need to do is download an RUU.
The Rom Upgrade Utility is a .zip file directly from HTC and is signed. If you want to go back to completely stock, you need to turn S-ON using the unrevoked S-ON tool, and you should flash that utility in a custom recovery.
Once you have S-ON, you can flash the signed .zip, which you rename to that file. Any file that is named to that name is what you flash in HBOOT, it can only flash files with that name.
The RUU is a specific ROM because it is signed and therefore you can flash it within HBOOT with S-ON as opposed to a recovery, also it will reflash your recovery, bootloader, and radio all back to stock, and obviously unroot you as well.
So in summary if you want to change a phone back to stock, you have to use the S-ON tool first, then flash an RUU and you should be all set.

Help! I'm not a noob, but I've borked my phone

Guys,
My Desire was running AuraxSense 8.0 and has been for months. It's also S-OFF so running a different bootloader. This morning, it froze up. I couldn't power it down so I took the battery out. When booting it stuck on the splash screen and went no further. Repeated, tried with SD card removed, no joy.
Couldn't get into fakeflash/clockwork recovery (or recovery at all for that matter).
When I was at work I downloaded the WWE RUU standard T-Mobile ROM but this fails with a 140 error (presumably due to the incompatible bootloader), although it seems to have wiped the phone anyway. It'll boot into the recovery menu or fastboot but nothing else.
I tried a generic WWE later ROM but this fails with error 130 - customer ID (presumably becauase it's not a T-Mob ROM).
I wiped the SD and put a fresh copy of fakeflash update.zip on the root - now when I try to boot into the clockwork mod conosle I get @failed to open /sdcard/d[date.zip (no such file or directory) and e:signature verification failed.
Have tried a factory reset and no joy either.
I can't recreate a goldcard I get the following error:
Rics-MacBook-Pro:~ Ric$ adb devices
List of devices attached
HT044PL01063 recovery
Rics-MacBook-Pro:~ Ric$ adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
Running unrevoked gives me "-exec /system/bin/sh failed: no such file or directory".
I'm stumped as to what to do now. Please can someone help me?
Ric
How long have you had the Desire for? If it is an AMOLED screen you can follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
But when you donwload the downgrade tool, replace the PB99IMG file in it with the one from a T-Mobile RUU before you run the tool. It should then allow you to downgrade to an earlier T-Mobile stock ROM

It's AMOLED. However, I can't downgrade without a goldcard, I don't think? And I can't generate one of them...phone doesn't boot into Android either...!
The downgrade tool is to go back to a stock WWE ROM. If you replace the PB99IMG file in the downgrade tool with your T-Mobile one from 1.21.110.4 then you won't need a gold card as it'll work

Just checked the HBOOT on the T-Mobile 1.21.110.4 RUU and it's 0.80
I don't think it'll be an issue but thought I'd mention it

Thanks. Dumb question probably, but how do I extract the PB99IMG file from the .exe RUU image?
Read a post which suggested taking the downloaded RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.21.110.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe file, renaming it to pb99img.zip and placing in the downgrade folder.
I've done this and sudo ./downgrade.sh with phone in recovery and detected by ADB devices, but the script stops at "Checking for device...waitign for device. Ensure USB debugging is enabled".
I can't boot the phone into android to turn usb debugging on...Help!
To get the PB99IMG out of an RUU...
1. Start the RUU
2. Once the first screen comes up for the RUU, move it down to the bottom of your screen as otherwise it stays on top of new windows
3. Once moved, go to Start>Run and type
%temp%
And click on OK
4. Go to the newest folder in that temp folder
5. Copy the file called Rom to your Desktop
6. Close the RUU updater and all other open windows
7. Rename the Rom file to PB99IMG

OK, got that.
But still hangs on "checking for device" when I run the downgrade script, and I can't turn USB debugging on as the phone won't boot..help! Really appreciate this, by the way.
EDIT: wooo, hang on. May have sorted it. Downloaded the original kousch fake flash, renamed to update.zip, booted to recovery, managed to get into recovery console and launch clockwork mod, now installing custom rooted ROM. Fingers crossed.

[Q] Recover bricked phone with S-ON - the newest PC10IMG.zip needed [RESOLVED]

Hi!
I've got bricked HTC Desire Z without root, S-ON, just stock but doesn't boot - hangs at HTC logo. I am able to get into Bootloader. I guess I need to flash PC10IMG.zip, but the one I have is Froyo one and while flashing it in bootloader it says that it's older than actuall or something like that.
I don't know what software I've got, but I need the newest PC10IMG.zip to flash it and than my phone should work again. So, where can I find it? On http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=Vision I see only executable files, so they are not helpful at all.
SOLUTION
.exe RUU from http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=Vision
Part 2 Grabbing Rom From RUU
1) Start the exe and leave it to load
2) once loaded leave it
3) navigate to C:\Users\**username***\AppData\Local\Temp\
4) look for pne of the two newest folders and open
5) within that folder there will be another folder open that
6) find rom.zip and copy to the sdcard
7) rename PC10IMG.zip
8) Put MicroSD card back into phone and boot to android

[Q] HTC One X stacked or bricked, pls help

hi friends,
my phone
ENDEAVORU PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.72.0000
CPLD-None
Radio 0-5.1204.167.31
jun 21 2013,18:24:41
version-main: 4.18.401.4
I flashed philz_touch_5.15.9-endeavoru.
I did something and now i can not flash a rom in any way. I need your advise, thanks in advance.
- when I push the power button to open the phone, only HBOOT screen comes.
- I tried to copy a rom to sd card by connecting the phone to the computer, but computer does not see the sd card. Also it says ''failed to open usb master mode'' on hboot menu.
- I tried to coke by running the RUU exe file like ''RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.31_R_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_302015_signed'' and similar more 4 file but ROM Update program says ''Rom Update Utility can not update your android phone. Please get the correct Rom Update Utility' and try again''. İ think i tried wrong RUU exe files. i searched 4.18.401 but i was not able to find any RUU exe file. I only found One_X_4.18.401.3_odexed.zip file, but I dont know how to flash this rom. so I need a correct RUU exe file not zip file.
So, what can do I do to flash the rom?
Why do you post a question in the development section ! Please read where you post. There is a Q&A section created with a reason !
There are no ruu's for that hboot. You can't flash a rom from the bootloader.
1: enter the recovery and mount the sdcard. Leave it as long as it need to see the storage pop up on the pc
2: copy the rom.zip to the sdcard
3: perform a full wipe in the recovery (ALL EXCEPT SDCard)
4: install the rom
5: flash the boot.img from the rom.zip via fastboot
6: reboot the phone
7: step 4 & 5 can be done in any order you like.

Sorry, this was about rom. so i read here. any way to carry to there?
I can not mount the sdcard, computer does not see it. so i was not able to copy any file to sdcard.
You need to give it time when you mounted,it, it doesn't work straight away. It can take up to 2 minutes before you even see it happen !!!

I need help to return to stock my M8 european

After spending hours upon hours reading through this forum I still haven't found a proper answer, so I am sorry if I start a thread that has been already answered somewhere else.
My phone apparently got a virus and it acts crazy: blocks on the start screen (the one that says HTC) and when I finally get it to start (through resetting to factory setting)s it starts to give me the message "People has stopped unexpectedly" over and over and over again.
It is locked
Has S-ON
CiD htc_Y13
So far I downloaded the fastboot
The RUU
The recovery image from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/guide-restore-european-htc-one-m8-to-t3072235
But I run into problems when I try to extract the rom.exe
And reading through the comments some people say that that method might end up bricking the device.
Can anyone give me a straight forward solution?
All I need to do is Return my phone to stock so that I can finally use it again
Thanks!
Flashing an RUU will format and restore all your phone's partitions to stock HTC condition - you'll lose all data, except your sd card.
1. Download the latest RUU file (in zip format) (6.12.401.4) from the link below:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24369303960687057
2. Rename the file to:
0P6BIMG.zip
Note: The first character is zero, and make sure you don't rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip.zip
3. Put the file in the root directory of your sd card.
4. Boot into bootloader and follow the instructions to flash the ruu.
5. Enjoy
Thanks for the reply

I get the following message when I tried this option :
Cancel Update!

Press Power to reboot
I also get wrong zipped image circa half way in the procedure
I guess you either have a corrupt download, file-system errors on your sd card or PC's hard disk, or you tried to flash the zip file from ADB.
Also, you can simply hard-reset your phone and start fresh. Then you can OTA up to 6.12.
Otherwise, if you want to flash the RUU, do this first:
1. Check your SD for errors and fix them.
2. Check your PC's hard disk for errors and fix them.
3. Download the file again and start over.
4. Follow my instructions to the letter.
5. Give us feedback
Thanks a million!!!!

[A5_CHL] Need TWRP Backup

SuperSU told me that my SU binary was out of date and so i tried to update it through TWRP like it recommended. Well that ended up failing in the middle of it (I don't have logs) and it seems like the backup I had is missing from my SD card. Whenever I load android it goes black screen, it'll show the back button and the status bar but none of that will be interactive. I can power it down but if i wait too long the buttons won't work. Anyways I was hoping someone had a backup for the a5_chl phone.

Sorry your having problems. Why not just get the stock RUU file directly from HTC/downloads and flash back your stock recovery by running the RUU on your computer and before hitting start type %temp% into the search box and go to the RUU's running files and in one of the numbered files will be the rom.zip and within that file will be the recovery image. Copy that to your ADB/fastboot folder then flash it over your TWRP recovery but first I'd wipe the system and data in advanced wipe in TWRP to get your system partition clean( THIS WIPES THE WHOLE PHONE SO BE AWARE OF THAT AND MOVE FILES TO YOUR COMPUTER ACCORDINGLY OR BACK UP USING GOOGLE STOCK BACKUP IN SETTINGS IF YOU'RE NOT ALREADY FOR CONTACTS AND NUMBERS ETC). Then relock your bootloader with the stock recovery flashed back and run the RUU or put it in your ext SD and rename the file to OP9CIMG and reboot into your bootloader and it should automatically pick up the file and start flashing it. I have this same model phone and I keep my stock RUU that I got from HTC on my computer for just such a problem. I got a stock recovery zip from somewhere else but i can't remember where but it's also within the RUU itself. Try to find the link for you in a bit.
EDIT: here's a link to someone I know who had a whole tutorial for the a5_ul version of our phone on how to flash back a stock RUU from your computer or from within your ext SD card. Obviously the links with the files aren't valid for our phone but the steps are . Also has instructions for restoring using a TWRP backup but I wouldn't use someone else's TWRP backup if my hair was on fire. Especially since we have access to the pure stock RUU with our version why not take advantage of it. That's all I'm saying.
