I know its a personal preference but this is my first flashing of a rom and I did all my homework and am ready to go, now I just need to find out what is the best SenseUI rom and kernel to flash. I would like the best battery life possible as I only get about 5-6 hours with moderate to heavy use. I am running the stock rom with one of toasts kernels. Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks in Advance!

It seems to be a hit or miss. Some kernels/ROMs work better for others and crappy for the rest.
netarchy's Kernels work well for me. I'm using the CFS beta kernel right now. If you are confused as to what CFS and BFS are, there are a few places that tell you what it is. Basically CFS is consistent but not as fast, BFS can be faster but it can also lag at times ie: inconsistent.
I personally flash the rooted 3.30 Deodexed ROM and then head over the Themes forum and tweak the UI to make it look different.
Also if you are going to be doing a LOT of testing, I would highly recommend that you flash the 4 in 1 Reboot Menu
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823137
There are also optimized ROMs out there that are good for some users and bad for others. Check out Ava's Froyo v10 ROM.
My suggestion: once you find a good working ROM + Kernel combo for battery life. STICK WITH IT lol. I made that mistake many times.
And don't forget to NANDROID back up ALWAYS.

Ok so I am coming from an incredible and there are a few roms out there that even though they are sense based seem way faster then any rom on the evo. Anybody know the reason for this and also what is the fastest rom to date that is 100% working such as 4g and hdmi work?
Most roms that run sense will be damn fast but so will cyanogen mod because its so well made. Kernels make a world of difference on each phone so try a rom you like then flash some different kernels. As always, make NAND backups often, and

Thats a nice rom and can be killer fast with some good kernels.
Does 4g work with this rom, and where would you suggest I start with Kernels, I see that rom has an undervolt option as well so I assume that would be taken away if I flashed a kernel on top of it or am I wrong because its a script? I can research that for sure but if you have a quick answer then I was hoping you could share it with me or let me know of a kernel that works well for you.
Thanks in advance!
Try MikFroyo 4.3...fastest Sense rom I have ever used (possibly the fastest rom ever for EVO). Also, everything is fully functional.
Test it with the kernel that comes packaged (HTC #15) and if you don't like it, then can try some other kernels.

Yea I just like the idea of running Calkulin's roms because he know so much about these phones. I'm convinced that he has some secret in his rom. But yes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883026 is a brilliantly fast rom. I can't say much for kernels because I haven't changed any yet but he has optimized just about the entire system to make for a really fast rom. I can see this rom with a good kernel putting down a really nice benchmark. I am running stock kernel and it is running a slightly faster benchmark than a stock evo. Here's my benchmark running this rom posted above.
I was thinking the same thing...I've flashed Fresh ROMs before and I liked the speed but I wanted to try another ROM...Maybe someone should make a thread with a poll and people can post likes and dislikes about each ROM...It can be like a feedback thread for ROM developers as well.
I'm loving the speed of Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5, using the stock HTC #15 kernel.
Yea im actually messing with kernels right now and with a little overclocking I can casually outperform the nexus. I was a mynion for a long time and I remember putting a kernel on the phone that was unbelievably fast. Both are great sense roms with this one being a little quicker and lightweight, and myns being prettier Attached are 1 screen of no overclocking then two overclockings. Interstingly enough, the 1349 score was with 1.2something frequency, and the 1484 was with 1.19ghz
I just got my droid incredible and I rooted it as soon as I got it. I've tried almost every rom in the "official rom" thread. I can't seem to figure out which one is the best for battery life. Right now I'm on myns 5.2. Any insight would help.

It really depends on the kernel that is flashed with the ROM as well, in general ROM's that are AOSP tend to have better battery life because all the Sense stuff that syncs constantly can drain your battery, but alot of devs have found ways around this by getting rid of the extra Sense junk.
But IMO switching kernels gives the biggest difference
Happy Flashing
it trully is in the kernal and somewhat dependant on the rom.. like dude said.. warm is a badass rom.. i think i'm still using warm rls4, forget which kernal.. but find a decent one and use a cpu tool to setup profiles to control your kernals speed and usage.. with the right settings you can squeez some juice out...
lou's senseless rom with his #4 kernel is awesome
Skyraider 3.5 for sense or I'm having great battery life with cm7 w/ stock launcher (doubt it makes a difference on battery life but might)
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
Like others have said, it's mostly about what kernel you are using. Some kernels reduce the amount of voltage the CPU uses to save battery as well as underclocking it when its not in use to save even more battery. I've used Skyraider 3.5 with Incredikernel and it has given me the best battery life, and I've used quite a few different kernels.
If you choose an AOSP ROM (like cyanogenmod) try invisiblek's kernel.
Best battery life to date is my current setup, Senseless Redemptive Revolution with Lou's #6. I can get 24-26 hours with normal usage not watching what I do. Recently, I reinstalled Juice Defender, and as I have always been a skeptic of it, if it is set up correctly, I am seeing a very noticeable increase in battery with no real side effects. FYI.
For Me, it was Cyanogen 6.1 stable and invisbilek's #28 for the kernel, but play around with it and see what works best for you, now that you are rooted, you can add any rom and kernel that you want and find out what works best for you, rembember, everyone's phone and usage are different, what works for me may not be best for you.
Thread closed.
Reason: The reason we close what's referred to as "Best ROM Threads" is because the vast majority of the type end up a nasty flame fest. The reasons should be obvious. It's really a matter of opinion, and then you get the fanboys of certain devs chiming in, and well, you get it. You did nothing wrong (besides posting in the wrong sub-forum). My advice is try a few and make that choice yourself. It's easy to find the most popular ATM, because they stay on page 1 of the dev sub. That doesn't necessarily make it the best, however. Give some a shot and see what's best for you. Good luck.

was running fresh 3.5.0.1 and now have flashed Mikfroyo 4.5 which is a heck of a lot faster, has more pizzazz with it. I am noticing worse battery life though. I have never had any expeience flashing any kind of kernels at all but from what I have read they control the power flow between the phone and the battery. What are some kernels I should try to get better battery life. The stock kernel is ok...Fast but drains faster then the stock kernel on fresh 3.5.0.1...I know this has been asked probably more than what is the best rom whether it's AOSP or sense but I need help. thanks in advance
You can only run sense kernels on sense roms and vice versa. I'd recommend one of netarchys sense kernels. If you want a good explanation of types or kernels and how they work this link is your best friend.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880
This is my recommendation to use with mikfroyo and any other sense roms. Its the 4.3.4 netarchy CFS havs less sbc. You don't have to use it but I've experienced the best overall performance with this one. Not everyones phone will react the same with each kernel. You have to test different ones and find which one your phone likes. I usually test a kernel for about 2 days myself. You would flash a kernel the same way you do a rom.
The kernel I suggested.

Awesome thank you for that guide. It's great for someone like me who is new to kernels. I will have to play with them and try to find a good one to use with Fresh/Mikfroyo

Yeah that guide is pretty handy. Hope you find a good kernel. There isn't much dev'ing going for 2.2 froyo sense kernels as most of the devs are just waiting for the official 2.3 gingerbread sense to release. You wont find many different sense kernels floating around as you would for aosp roms but hit up that netarchy thread I was talking about and do some browsing!

I'm pretty sure that this question has been posted alot of times but I need help deciding on a decent rom and a kernal which would go with it that has everything working and has the best battery life as well. I will probably get CM7 but idk which kernal will go best with it.
I also need help changing the LCD density of my screen. Before I switched to my EVO I owned a HTC HD2 and had pongsters hyperdroid on it which had lower LCD density allowing everything to be smaller on the phone.
Those are my questions please help. Thank you!

Not exactly sure what you mean by LCD density but I can help with the ROM kernel question.
As far as a ROM goes the best way to find the right one is to do 2 things.
1. Make a list of things you are looking for in a ROM. Stability, 4G, HDMI, Wireless Tether, etc. Then check out ROMs that contain stable versions with those features you emphasize.
2. Get flash happy. Flash a ROM, test it for a few days to a week and then flash another one. If you find yourself coming back to one specific ROM over and over again then that is probably the one you should stick with.
Check out this thread for some ROM ideas: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951057
A few ROMs that I didn't see mentioned in there are Myn's Synergy, Salvage-Mod, Sinister, Savaged Zen, and Swag.
As far as kernels go you have to remember a basic rule. Sense ROMs get paired with sense kernels and AOSP ROMs get paired with AOSP kernels. Then you do the same thing you did with the ROMs.
1. Make a list of what you want in a kernel. HAVS, SBC, overclocking, undervolting, etc.
2. Get flash happy and test which kernel matches your ROM the best with what you are looking for.
I know that may not be the exact answer you are looking for. But ROMs and kernels are all about personal preference and daily usage trends. each one has pros and cons that different people may or may not like. Check my ROM/kernel combination. It fits my usage habits, constantly using it at home and barely use it when out of the house, but it may not fit the way you use it. Experiment and have fun.
And here is a thread about kernels: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880
Quite personally, I would suggest MIUI. If you're not into that kind of thing, I would suggest Deck's, who updated to stable yesterday!
Kernel, I would say Tiamat 4.0.8.
Look up Vipermod. Check my signature. Most phones can at least handle a -50 undervolt for the Tiamat mentioned above.
I would suggest the flashable GPS fix in my signature. Locks on quite accurately.
You may have a lot of cell standby drain. Check development section for a thread about Radio wakelock combination.
Best way to change the density would be to edit the build.prop but there are apps in the Market. Just search density changer

Then you will be able to find out what you like.
AOSP is always a winner for me.
Oh, and make sure you Nandroid.
I agree with both posts above, you have to try out roms for yourself since in every rom post you will see someone saying this is the best rom they have ever hadand battery life is super. Your question has been asked a million times before but like that millions of answers that were given it all boils down to personal choice.
I run AOSP with an sbc kernel but Lord knows you may find people here who would dispute the use of an sbc kernel. LCD Density apps are in the market or just use google for help. Sorry this is not a definitive answer but honestly just find a rom you like and give it a shot....
Thanks for all your answers time to get flash happy!

For me the best combo of performance and battery life has been SavagedZen and CM7. Completely transformed my perception of just well the evo should perform. Basically no compromises, Fast AND great battery life.
I'm using MikG 2.56 ROM with Aggressive Freedom kernel. Holding up pretty good.
For me the best combo is Decks Rom 1.3 + SavagedZen Kernel + Vipermod
I can get about 16 hours on MikG 2.56 (stock kernel) with moderate use. Damn near perfect ROM.

Which version of CM7 are you running? I'm on the 219 nightly and it kind of meh. I've tried savaged Zen with CM7.1 and it was good but my battery didn't seem to last as long during use so I decided to move on to other kernels. Are you running any supplementary battery apps?
I will be flashing my first rom and kernel to my Evo, Im just wondering others experience and whats a good fast and stable rom as well as what kernel to add on?? Any input is great,,

I would argue that it is personal preference. I went through alot of different
Setups. I settled on mikg 2.58 latest sense with aggressive freedom kernel universal.
I am in extreme rural area so I was very picky on battery life. My cell radio is constantly
Boosting its own voltages to get better reception, so i was looking for the absolute best battery life from a ROM. I also am a sense fanboy regardless of critics, b/c the EVO was made for that very reason.
Things to consider...are you in the city? If so most of.the popular stuff will be fine for battery.
Are you a modder, hacker personality. If so spend some time backing up through titanium and and Google sync. So you can test all the ROM.kernels without losing your phone, phone.
If not then look for stability. It is vital to learn about the gereneral process b4 getting started so you don't have a lot of issues.
U
Some myths. Every single ROM has a random knucklehead saying its the best battery stability they have ever seen. Don't believe it. They all have strengths and weakness. Further, go for setcpu root and learn it. It's the best and will allow any ROM to be better.
Longwinded, I know. But cm7.cm9 if you like plain vanilla based aosp rom. Mikg if you like sense based rom. Kernel chopsuey or more/aggressive freedom kernel are the best for.battery in my opinion.
I agree with gentlye! This is very much a personal preference. You will most likely spend many days figuring it all out and testing several different setups. One of the first things to figure out is if you want a "Sense" ROM or an "AOSP" ROM. Before getting started with anything though be sure that you know how to make a "nandroid" backup and use it. That will ultimately save you some time and frustration and potential disaster.
I personally am a huge fan of the "gingerbread-evo-deck" ROMs which are AOSP based. My current setup is with "gingerbread-evo-deck [1.3][2.3.7 Stable]" ROM and "Tiamat_Evo-v3.3.7-sbc" Kernel. This setup is very stable, fast, and has great battery life for me. It is a pretty popular setup and most users seem to have good success with it. I highly doubt that I will be changing my ROM again.
Just be sure to do your research and nandroids and all will be fine. Good luck!
Thanks alot ima do some more research i live in a somewhat big city, problem is i dont have much time,, now ive heard depending on what root method u use some roms arent compatible???

I have never heard of that. Once rooted you should be able to flash any ROM you want from recovery I think. And, as long as you have a nandroid backup it is super easy to go back to a previous setup if you don't like the results.
I would have to say Newtoroot's SuperSonic3D XL Beta and Aggresive-Freedom kernel.
Yeah im somewhat new,, at least to evos i was just asking cuz i looked up how to root it and it something about that i just wanted to make sure

It without a doubt is personal preference. I prefer launcher pro so therefore don't care for sense based ROMs. There is a user at SDX named DC13 who makes ROMs. He posts his ROMs here sometimes as well. Anyway, he has a ROM based off of the old CM7. I used that ROM with savaged zen's kernel and my phone ran GREAT. Battery life was outstanding and performance was good. I can't say enough good things about that ROM. I switched to the new CM7 a week or so ago and am considering goimg back because the battery life is noticeably not as good. I am still testing though.
