Hi,
I bought a TELUS htc desire with the new SLCD screen thing. I have a yellow stain/tint at the bottom of the screen, but futureshop (where I bought it) says that all of them have that problem and as I already exchanged one phone once because of dead pixels, they just want to give me a new phone that isn't HTC. So, I was wondering if this is really a problem and you guys just accept it and it doesn't bother you much.
My stain is about 1 cm from the bottom of the screen, and not really apparent on darker backgrounds, but as soon as it turns out to be white or gray, it's clearly visible. On blue, the screen turns out green.
I am not sure what I am supposed to do, I like this phone a lot and the Htc sense...they said i could have a TELUS samsung fascinate with Android 2.1 (2.2 will be updated early 2011)...
Thanks
is your stain growing?
i noticed a brown/yellow stain in the left bottom corner a couple of weeks ago, starting with the size you mentioned. now the stain is atleast 4 times bigger and still growing.
wasnt there something like this on the new iphones when they came out. something about the glue used to bond the screens coming away??

Hi all, hoping someone could help me. Hot a new desire yesterday and have noticed when no a black screen these is a faint light in the top right corner. You can't see it when the screen is light though.
Is this faint light a problem or will it be ok?
Cheers all
Blinky
Not sure how common this is but I have the same problem and have heard about it before. I was thinking of returning the Desire for a different one but if it is a common problem then I won't bother.
Silly suggestion, it doesnt happen when your notification led is on does it?
As that would produce a slight glow from underneath the screen.
I have the faint light in the top corner even when the led is off.
Anyone hot any other ideas what it could be?
Cheers

Is this while the screen if off?
Looked on my Desire - can't see any other light source?
Any update on the uper right corner issue, I have same problem and even went back to store to change the device, but the new one had same issue. Dont know if its only my bad luck or what.
Its plain backlight bleeding, could be possibly solved by some ghetto disassembly and sharpie, but I wont sacrifice my warranty to fix something that doesn't bother me (and of course it's a feature/bug of SLCD screened Desires)
So you think i bought desire with slcd not the amoled one. Didnt know slcd desires are already on the market.
Hmmm, I have this issue as well, only really shows up on a dark blank screen, so not to much of an issue in day to day use.....Looks from all the posts that this is a "feature" of the SLCD screens that HTC are using......;o)
Substituted mine today in warranty...no differences, the same problem on the new one.
Thanks htc...good work...
Same story here. Bought mine (SLCD) about week ago and this screen "feature" was there from the very beginning. I was thinking about to return it, but I went through your posts guys and looks like this is a common problem...
I got my Evo about a month ago and thought it was strange that the vibrate was kinda weak, then later noticed the not so black purplish haze screen look. I talked to sprint about the nova and epson screen and they said go to your local store to see if you can trade it in...now i have rooted mine and did all this work to it and want to know if i should go trade it in or is this normal stuff? I dont want a new one with 2.2 already on it

I swapped mine out because I had the power button crack and dust under the screen, I also had a novatec screen that showed the verticle yellow lines REAL BAD.
My new one is the same HW version and screen type and has no power button crack or verticle yellow lines but has dust under the screen now just as bad as the last one.
IMO I would get as much mileage as you can out of that one, do some torture tests, whatever, and shell out $100 in 6 months for a new one. Thats my plan

HardWare Version
they are up to HW Version 003 now. At least I haven't seen any reports of 004 yet.
i dont really see the problems here. its known that the nova and epson screens have different color profiles and therefore different ideas on what "black" and "white" are. the accepted situation is that epson screens have a truer black but are washed out, whereas novas are more saturated and "black" shows up as "purple haze". its a personal preference which you prefer, i didnt notice the purple till it was pointed out.
the vibration on the phone is pretty pathetic. i dont notice it often when its in my pocket.
it all comes down to personal preference, if you've already put the work into having a phone the way you want, keep it. you might trade it in and be very unhappy with the epson screen.
the grass is always greener on the other side. if youre grass aint green, water it.
Hi,
I bought a Desire few deys ago and unfortunately it has slcd screen.I have noticed with screen checker that on black screen there is back light bleeding on the top right corner and on the left side as well. is this normal? are there any other people with the same bleeding issues? It is very annoying,i thought for this money i get a good phone...
The bleeding is similar like on the How to know if your HTC Desire have Super-LCD screen? on youtube at 50 sec(sry i can't send url)
and i also attached a picture.
Can i exchenge it?Is it faulty or normal?
Thx for the answers!
I downloaded a display testing app, and didn't see this problem at all. I went into a completely dark interior room and ran it again, and could barley see a tiny bit of this in the upper right corner. Since I haven't noticed it once in actual use, even at night, I'm not going to worry about it. However yours, as shown in your photo, is much worse than mine. I am uncertain how the warranty folks would feel about it, but it's your call whether to try returning it. Does it bother you when using the phone?
Hi,
If i'm using it nightime i can see proper bleeding on the right and left side as well if the background is black otherwise it is ok.Daytime i can see only bleeding on the top right corner with black background, but i think it shouldn't be like that, that's why i need info from other people who has Desire with slcd screen. As you wrote you did not realised the bleeding only after i metioned it.
I am waiting for more info, after i can make a decision to take back the handset or it is normal.
Thx
Hi guys,
please share with me your feedbacks if you have SLCD screen. I am very confused now, that this problem is common or only my screen is faulty? Because if it is only for me I have to exchange the phone.
Thanks
Hi,
If it is really looking like on this photo... i dont need a slcd screen to tell you that this is not acceptable... return the phone.

I agree with this. If my Desire looked like that - it would definitely be going back to the seller.
As to test on my phone - I can't as I have a AOMELD version of the phone. However, I too, don't need to see an SLCD to know the above is simply not acceptable.
I have the SLCD screeen. I have the exact black light bleeding on my screen also .
If all the SLCDs are ike this ,a replacement phone also will be similar .So no point in returing .Also there is no return possible in INDIA . .
I'm sure this is normal for LCD screens, there is a YouTube video comparing an AMOLED N1 to an SLCD N1 and there's a lot of backlight bleed on the SLCD...
Hi
thanks for the answers. So no point to exchange it, this thing is normal if you have slcd screen...Very strange and annoying.I thought this handset is almost perfect, i am going to sell it now.
thanks
Looks like Samsung's decision not to supply the AMOLED screens to 3rd parties is going to be the downfall of the Desire...
Hi! I just got a HTC Desire (SLCD) and have the same problems with the backlight bleeding (in the top right corner and in the left side but more at the middle point). You concluded it is a normal issue, but however there is people saying they don't have the problem in their SLCD Desires... Perhaps it would be worth trying to exchange it? what do you think? is out there more people with no bleeding SLCD Desires?
SLCD
i have an SLCD but no bleeding that i have noticed mine is 4 days old so maybe they fixed something definitely return it
im so glad ive got an amoled desire in all my previous htc phones with lcd screens, i neva had any bleeding like that so i'd take it back and get a replacement
Hi, just wondering if anyone has this problem. On the white screen as well as camera, a yellow stain has appeared on the top, like a coffee stain on a page. Can't take a screen shot because it only appears on the screen. If pressed, it disappears for a moment and comes back. It's not as clear as before but still there. Most likely a hardware problem but wondering if it's possible to fix. Cheers.
probably not fixable by any software means mate,if its still under warranty, get screen replaced. its common thing with one x, along with speaker problems, creaking sounds etc.. what can you do, nothing is perfect
Been lucky til now. Thought of holding out for sense 5 but guess it's time to get the one. Had this phone for a year now.
EDIT: Someone please move this post to troubleshooting, this is between my first posts on this forum, sorry.
Hello,
I have an issue with my T325, I have a white light bleed spot that is visible only on white or light pages between the two slim slots (in the middle of the screen but a bit to left). They are not dead pixels, many cheap phones have such a brighter spot.
I bought the tablet brand new 5 months ago, I have warranty for one and a half more years but it takes half a month or more until they see, repair and return the device if I send it in. (I haven't paid for premium service)
The spot appeared about 3 months ago but I told myself that I will not change my otherwise perfect screen for a brighter 0.3cm white spot even if it's a little annoying sometimes ( I had already exchanged two tablets until I got one without dead pixels or dirt inside the screen). I haven't dropped, pushed the screen on that point or did anything that could have damaged it.
However, at the beginning of this month i wiped my screen with a cloth that had something very hard on it and I didn't see and managed to get a deep 1 cm scratch (I can actually hook my nail in it) exactly in the middle of my screen and I didn't have a screen protector (who needs one on a tablet ? ). I am thinking on convincing somehow the service to change the screen because of the light bleeding. The two issues are unrelated, there is only one scratch on the screen clearly from a swiping motion.
Does anyone have an idea on whether the screen is defective or there is some strain in that point ?
Did anyone have a similar issue and managed to solve it ? Should I try sending it in ?
