Nexus roms on Desire and vice-versa?

Hi guys,I will be getting a Desire one of these days and,although I won't be rooting it for some time,there is one thing I would like clarified.Since the Nexus One and the Desire are almost the same phone(I presume most of you here know what the insignificant differences are) can we install roms that are designed for the Nexus on the Desire or inversely?

I have HTC Desire 816 dual sim (A5_DUG) with cm12 and i miss having htc boomsound...... so it possible to get boomsound on cm12?!?
