Not helpful but an attitude like that won't get you much help.
There are guides in that forum section that will help you root, make sure you find the most updated one or you will end up wasting a LOT of time and possibly brick your Evo.
Use the search for Root guides

4G always scanning after ota-update root and radio update.

ok, before i get flamed for not searching, i did. i can't find an answer or any clarification to this so far...
i did the post-ota update root, which caused my 4g connection to not work as well. so i asked what to do about this, and was led to doing whitslack's update here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715915
now, i checked my software info and here's what i found:
baseband version: 2.05.00.06.10
pri version: 1.34_003
prl version: 60667
i used to be able to get 4g signal at home, but now, since i rooted, i don't anymore. can someone please help me out?
Not sure what's going on, but I would just blame shift...
LMAO Im like reading this and looking at the pri and thinking gees why is he so backtracked LMAO great bump.

YES!!! There IS a Way to Root Froyo!

UPDATE - AUGUST 26, 8.38am: It is official. The Unrevoked team has developed a root method for the Evo 2.2 OTA. The basic process is a downgrade to 2.1, then using Unrevoked 3 + Unrevoked Forever and a new PC36IMG along the way to get full root access. Here is the guide. I guess this thread is now dead. It's a good thing.
*** Everything below this line is now outdated! ***
This question is asked several times every day here. This is the answer: If you have a new Evo with Froyo (Android 2.2) or have accepted the OTA update to Froyo, there is currently NO KNOWN WAY to gain root access. You cannot root until somebody finds an exploit in the new system.
There is also no known way to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1 and then root that either.
The new release of Unrevoked Forever will NOT root an unrooted 2.2 system. It is instead a safeguard against losing root in the future even after OTA updates.
If you are a 2.1 user and would like to upgrade, you must root your 2.1 system FIRST, then flash a ROOTED ROM. If you flash an unrooted 2.2 ROM, you will not be able to root it even if you were previously rooted until somebody finds a way to root 2.2
Bottom line: If you have stock 2.2, you are stuck until further notice. Period.
This is true for the "leaked" .3 release and the "final" .6 release.
The "Easy Root" app by Unstable Apps has been reported to NOT work on the Evo.
I will change this post the minute a 2.2 root method is discovered.
CLARIFICATION: In light of a recent dialogue between myself and toastcfh (our forum mod whose work I highly respect) I want to make it clear that there may someday soon be a way to root 2.2, but nobody has reported that they have made any progress on this yet. There are talented developers looking for a hole in the system, and I have every confidence that something will emerge in the near future. I also encourage anybody who thinks they can make headway on this front to TRY! I do NOT want anybody to think that it cannot be done. I just want to make it clear that we do not know of a way to do it yet. I want this to happen as well. Please don't be discouraged!
If you are reading this, please bump it until it's a sticky topic.
This thread is now a sticky courtesy of our forum mod.

Nobody said that.
Oh, wait, yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.
Bump even though I did ask the question myself. I've only been here a few days and I've already seen quite a few threads about it.
+1 on the sticky. Way toooooo many "can I I root Froyo?" threads.

Just caught another one, first post by a new user asking about how to root and/or downgrade his 2.2 RUU.
I feel like I'm holding the vaccine and nobody's taking it.
Bumping for justice.
HTC needs to stop being lame and just ship the phones rooted.
You know what really aggravates me about this site..... the sheer number of idiots!..this thread is an example...SilverZero made a great post to sticky explaining he will take time to post as soon as a root is available. Within 45 mins somebody feels the need to post a stupid ass question that was clearly explained by the OP in the first freakn post, which was the reason for this thread. Thanks SilverZero for wanting to keep is up to date and trying to keep the evo threads a little less cluttered regarding the possibility of a root. Unfortunately we know that these idiots are going to continue not reading and just posting same **** over and over and over! Give it a rest morons! This is a great site I just wish we could weed out the idiots!
Hey guys, I have an OTA Froyo 2.2, how do i root my phone?
Edit 1: Jokes aside, appreciate you trying to root us 2.2 boys; wish I was capable.

If you can hex edit the PRI to make it appear to be a higher version, could you hex edit the verision number to allow a RUU to downgrade? Probably wouldn't work, but worth asking.

[Q] HTC EVO 4G 2.2 Root

Hi:
I am having a bit of a problem trying to root my new HTC evo.
My hardware info is:
Hardware Version: 0004
Baseband version: 2.15.00.09.01
Software #: 3.30.651.3
Everytime I try to root it. It tells me something that it couldn't update because the version I had on my phone was older version. I think that's what it said.
is there any way to root my phone?
Please let me know.
Thanks!
i am having the same problem...
nothing i have tried has worked at all so far
find 2.2 s-off thread in this section and follow steps closely. if you still are unsuccessful post in THAT thread.
ps this thread should not be in the development section, read the rules
Thread moved to Q&A.
i cannot find the thread your talking about...
its because the software on your phone is prolly 3.30 like mine since they are new or have been updated
find unrevoked on twitter and you can fallow them
there last post was
3.30 Evo folks -- XDA has a solution for you in the interim; we'll package it up nice and clean when we get a break from work & school.

Seriously, searching is not hard.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
I looked through that. People are saying it works and it doesn't. I have 2 Evo's one is rooted, and the other one I bought last night for a friend and he won't root. Is there any way to do it for his evo? Said Main folder is older or something.

I'm sorry if I'm going off topic here but you got your stock phone with 3.30? I thought that was the unofficial leaked update.
Not sure I bought it off craigslist brand new. Is that why the root isn't working? is there a way to bring it down an update?
Thanks for all the help!

Turn off your phone. Hold VOL DOWN + POWER till you load into Bootloader. It should be listed at the top on the second line.
but I have 3.30 and 0004 will it still work?
tigercranestyle said:
not sure what you mean by "unofficial leaked version". page 120 in that link referenced is a simplified way performing the original instructions in that thread. my stock evo indeed was 3.30 and 003. instructions were very easy to follow.

Many people are still stuck on 3.29 with no OTA coming out for 3.30. While some people are saying they have 3.30 stock from Sprint so some people aren't sure whether its official or unofficial.
There is a 3.30 ROM that was leaked from a source to XDA forums a week or so ago. Hence why I said it was unofficial.
3.3 is official...unless the guys at the sprint store are playing jokes on me. I traded in my evo today and received a "fresh" (non-refurb) one that is hardware version 4 and 3.3 software. I am having a WONDERFUL time rooting right now...gonna try the hboot202soff thingy here when it downloads...unrevoked was no dice!

Some advise on Dhd running 2.3.3 . .

Hi Fellow Xda-ers,
I am new here and have been browsing thr forums for a few weeks, and its this place that made me get the dhd.
Any who i got the handset two days ago, Its on contract, Locked to Orange Uk, Running Android 2.3.3 with a software number of: 2.37.61.11.
Now i have been looking around the forums and scratching my head for ages trying to find out if i am able to:
1.) Root
2.) DownGrade
3.) Flash custom roms.
Any advise is appreciated,
Thanks.
I'm sorry pal, build 2.37 can't downgrade yet, so you can't root. Our fellow modders are working on a workaround with no success yet.

Yes. If you are married or have a partner spend the time with them now because when they work out the fix for 2.37 you will only have eyes for your DHD

gratz enjoy ur phone as we should be able to enjoy it i've been soo happy with mine since I unlocked/changed room
Hi. I ve dhd. It's s-off with build number 2.37 running gingerbread 2.3.3. So my question can I downgrade without having to temproot first cuz its s-off..
Desperately waiting for ur answer
Im afraid not, if you are on contract do what i did, Call your provider tell them its stuck in a bootloop due to a failed ota rom update, and they will replace the phone for you, well maybe, Orange UK did, i called in 7.30pm and received the phone next morning.
Then that way you "may" get a phone that has not been updated, the replacement i got was on 2.1 :0)

oh my, you're gonna get super flamed for this. ROM is preference. There are lots of great ones. Read the stickies for root, don't accept any OTA updates..if you update OTA the 2.3 kiss rooting goodbye..Read! Then read some more. This is the friendliest advice you are going to get from this thread you started..I promise.
Go with unrevoked. Check out YouTube. There are many great walk throughs of it there. Just make sure video is for latest unrevoked (think its 3.2) !!watch full video a few times b4 u attempt it 2 get familiar with what's gonna happen. U can always ruin back. Do it on a windows PC is my advice.
