[Q] advice needed please guys - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have a desire that has been unrevoked and clockworkmod installed i have also installled miui rom, but i would like to install amon_ra recovery as i prefer it as it has partition tools and alike and its what im used to as i have a Hero as well.
my question is this can i use unrevoke on the rom i have installed to flash the amon_ra recovery or not? or can i just use a terminal emulator like i did on the hero when i update it.
or is there another way
p.s it is not s-off ONLY unrevoked
thanks in advance

Should be able to do it again and flash AmonRA over CWM - not tried it myself, though

well i will give it a go later

[Q] Now that s-off is on?

Now that we have s-off is updating to the leak 2.2 easier or the same as before?
MUCH easier! Now all you have to do assuming you're already rooted and have applied the new unrEVOked forever patch is upgrade your radio then flash any of the 2.2 Froyo roms that are out right now. No more having to RUU thanks to unrEVOked our lives just got a lot easier.
so if i have this right, i would download the radio update put it on my sd, then go into clockwork and install it, then i can install a 2.2 rom from there and reflash?
heyitslou, thanks
Not clockwork I don't think, you'd go into bootloader menu and upgrade radio that way. I'm not sure if clockwork supports radio updates
i figured out the problem, it was a format issue on my card it wasn't FAT32 >_<
Just to confirm... as mentioned above you have to install the radio file from hboot.... and not rom manager... once you have ran that and also ran the s=off, you can then use rom manager to install anything you like.
that is true...now my next question do we need to do the wipes before doing roms still or no...i know i ask a lot of questions but this is my first smartphone and at some point i would like to contribute to roms/themes/apps/etc
With s-off...I want to flash the latest CMR

Anything? How about a new CMR recovery like 2.5.0.5? ROM manager only will let me install 2.5.0.1. Actually what good is a program like ROM Manager if they don't keep it updated with the latest recovery?
Can anyone tell me how to flash the latest CMR recovery after they have installed unrevoked forever (S-OFF)? Looks to me like I need to create an "android-info.txt" file and zip it up with an IMG file. But I'm not sure how create or what to include in the android-info.txt file...

Here's how I flashed the latest ClockworkMod Recovery. This is assuming you have all the right drivers that you were able to run Unrevoked 3 to root your phone.
Download the 2.5.0.5 image of ClockworkMod Recovery.
Run Unrevoked 3 but do NOT have your phone plugged in yet.
Go to File and select Custom Recovery and then select the 2.5.0.5 img
Then plug in your phone (with USB debugging on, of course) and let it run.
hope this helps.
the 2.15 radio andrynalyne (spelled wrong) posted also contains the latest clockword mod recovery (2.1.0.5). so if you want to update your radio and recovery image, that will take care if both of those for you

Thanks. I was aware of this procedure. But I wasn't sure it was okay to do it after installing unrevoked forever. Are you sure it's okay to run the unrevoked 3 again after I have already installed unrevoked forever?

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks. Then I don't need to do this if I am already flashed to 2.5.0.5. It's hard to tell from ROM Manager. It always says 2.5.0.1...

i don't see why it would be a problem running unrevoked 3 again after unrevoked forever if you're just using it to install the latest ClockworkMod Recovery.

I just checked my recovery version by re-booting with the vol dn + pwr buttons and it did upgrade to 2.5.0.5 when I did the radio update, and so I no longer need to attempt this. Thanks again.

You can't use a capital letter, everything is case sensitive in linux, use flash_image instead of Flash_image.
Just a noob question
Hi All,
I would really appreciate if someone could give me an explanation on this flashing stuff. Would it be possible?
I have a rooted Desire. I rooted it with unrevoked3. And have the ROM Manager and ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7.
I did several backups of my device using the Power + Volume Down key to boot into HBOOT and then selected the Recovery menuitem. Then the ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7 is running. (I already had this ClokcworkMOD after using unrevoke3 I guess it installed the REcovery app.) Here in the Backup and Restore menu I did some backups.
Then I downloaded the the ROM Manager from the Market and after that I ran the ROM Manger and it downloaded the ClockworkMOD Recovery externsion-or-what.
I also did a backup with this ROM Manger but I guess this is the same as the previous ones I did using form HBOOT with the ClockworkMod Recovery.
So now I'm here....
I have downloaded the psfmod image for the Desire.
You wrote that the easiest way is to use the unrevoked3 to flash this image. But what will happen after that? Will the phone will boot using this psfmod image? I guess it won't boot into normal mode.
And after that how can I change anything back?
I really want to try to downgrade my PS3.
Please help...
Thanks in advance!
you want to jailbreak a ps3 with a cell?
I would really recommend going to ps3-hacks.com and reading their tutorials. Basically you will be flashing injection code on your phone as if it was a rom. Honestly I would use a calculator to do it, much simpler process.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Thanks! I will try to find a tutorial there. Maybe I will have luck.

[Q] Most stable CM recovery

Hey, just a quick question;
the CyanogenMod 7 update guide states
'NOTE: the ClockworkMod version 2.5.0.7 installed by Unrevoked3 is widely reported not to work with new "PVT4" batches of the Desire. To find out version of the device: '
I have found this to be true, and two times have I had the problem of having a phone which cannot mount an sd card.
So, what is the most stable version of the recovery for my HTC Desire? In Rom Manager I have the options of versions 2.5.0.7, 2.5.1.3 and 2.5.1.1.
Thanks!
I'm currently using 3.0.0.5 I believe it is, works fine apart from it no longer supports the installation of ROM's/Mods that use the old style install-script.
CM 2.5.1.8 is most stable for me coz working fine, try this
Ok so if I want to use the new 3.0.0.5, all I need to do is download the .zip and flash it like I would a rom through recovery? I actually think I may be using AmonRa 2.0.1; Rom Manager is lying to me - so will i also be safe if I flashed it from AmonRa? Sorry for being cautious; I'm sick of the command prompt.
No. Using a zip file only fake flashes the recovery so it's only there for the one time and when you reboot it it's gone. You need to actually permanently flash the .img file. You need S-Off for this. You can use fastboot or the Android Flasher, either way is fine. Also Rom Manager is gay for the Desire. Don't use it. BTW, I'm using 3.0.0.5 built by Kali. I have the fake flash 2.5.0.7.zip file incase I need it.

Oh ok. Thanks, that was useful! I will probably stick with the recovery I have now and just not use Rom manager then (after all that may be the cause of my problems) , I'm not too keen on S-Offing right now.
So why would someone want to fake flash a recovery?

Unrevoked and install the original android recovery

Hi, I'm thinking about to root the phone with Unrevoked, but I don't want to lose the original android recovery,
1. is there a method to flash the original recovery instead of the Clockwork mod recovery?
because I like to use it with fake flash and it is the best way to use always the latest updated Clockwork.
not possible with unrevoked i belive.
but what's the problem ? just use it, you will get CWM 2.5.0.7 and keep a fake-flash.zip on sd and launch it from 2.5.0.7
No, I like to leave the original android recovery because are 2 times that I have to send him to assistance and I don't like to send it with a custom recovery.

Quick question out of curiosity: why is CWM 2.5.0.7 flashed on a GSM Desire by default? They're up to 3.2.0.0 at least. Is there something wrong with later versions?
Is a metod to reflash the original android recovery from clockwork mod recovery?
You can't use the stock recovery to flash a custom ROM so it's just not worth it. Keep the RUU for your phone for if you need to go back to stock

Sorry not possible, because you cannot use fakeflash from the original unmodified recovery(it was made for the old root method, which modífied the recovery to allow test-keys, so even though it looked like the original HTC recovery, it weren't).
However you can easily just use fakeflash(via rommanager) even though you have clockwork mod installed as well. It'll just open the fake flash recovery instead when the update.zip is flashed, so just root normally using unrevoked.

Newest clockworkmod version uses a newer script for flashing. Some developed things (roms, etc.) does not support this script yet. So one won't be able to flash things.

Cannot flash CWM 5.0.2.0 with rom manager in miui

Hello everyone,
i used to have rom manager and cwm 2.5.0.7 working fine under MIUI.Then i decided to replace the cwm files with the 4ext recovery. All went ok and i was able to fakeflash with rom manager and boot into 4ext until one i day i decided to fakeflash via rom manager the newest cwm 5.0.2.0 Although it says flashing complete when i try to reboot into recovery it gets me to the old 2.5.0.7
Any ideas?
Are you s-off? If yes, flash recovery via fastboot.
No, i m not
Actually i dont want to replace my permanent recovery.Just to be able to use the fakeflash version in rom manager!
Follow these instructions:
go to settings > applications > manage applications > ROM Manager > #uninstall#
End of all your problems. ROM Manager is a third party app that just causes problems, it is a lot safer to just boot into recovery manually (power off, hold volume down & power, use volume keys to navigate RECOVERY, press power to boot into recovery)
If you want to fakeflash through recovery, all you need is the recovery.zip, and fakeflash it like you'd flash a ROM.

I agree with the other: dont use rom manager
anyway, u can't flash it beacuase the last version of rom manager do not use fakeflash anymore, it's need s-off now
so, u must s-off, then better if u flash it with fastboot, and use the recvoery manually
Thanks for the replies people
Nothing wrong with 2.5.0.7, it does the job. Remember to press the 'Thanks' button rather than just saying "thanks".
Offcourse its nothing wrong. But i used a fake flash version of 4ext recovery via rom manager thats why i started this thread.Because i m no longer able to fakeflash another recovery via rom manager.I know it can be done via permanent recovery.

as i said, latest rom manager does not support fakeflash anymore!
I had the same problem, then I go s-off and was able to flash recovery also via RomManager...
I believe ROM manager doesn't support fake flash on the desire as this was breaking many desires that had true flash versions of recovery.
It got so bad at Android forums, we had to create a thread warning people.
http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/356192-warning-do-not-use-rom-manager.html
Anyway for me 2.5.0.7 is still my favourite recovery.
Don't really understand the need for ROM manager anymore. It made lots of sense before Unrevoked came along. Now it seems to me just helping the lazy get lazier (but of course this is just my opinion)
