I was recording a meeting using notes, I do this a few times a week w/out problems.
I got a pop up message saying my storage card mem. was full, even though I had 2GB left on the storage card and 50MB left on the phone's internal mem.
The message told me to go to start>Tools>File Explore....and delete some things from my storage card, then go back to notes via Start>Tools>Notes... and the file would be automatically saved on the newly cleared space.
I did it, and the file was automatically saved on the storage card mem., with 2GB of free memory left.
However, now the phones internal memory say 0.09MB, when it originally had 50MB free.
I thought perhaps the original audio file might have been temporary saved on the internal mem., while I cleared mem. on the storage card, as the pop up message directed.
But, so fare I have found nothing new on the device or it's internal mem., nothing that could have taken up that 50MB. I double checked the audio files, and they are on the storage card, I even removed them from the storage card using my desktop, but still the phone thinks that that 50MB is in use...
Tried a few soft resets and cleartemp files program... nothing has changed.
Anyone know what's going on or experience something similar?
Any suggestions would be appreciated to help me avoid a hard reset.
Thanks

The problem is that there is not enough available free space for correct work of win. mobile OS. Each time I reboot my phone, the greetings message appears, it also appears when I browsing in menu, trying to change settings. What should I do if there is no additional processes in progress besides Calendar, Messages or Contacts? I have only 700 kb free and remaining 41,3 mb are used. I thought that adding 2 gb flash micro sd card would solve my problem, but it still exists.
Thank you all.
I'll wait for your advices and suggestions.
Try to uninstall some programs (like today plugins and etc)
they use your memmory.
Adding a 2GB memory card isn't like just adding more memory to your PC - the phone treats the memory card as separate memory, not just an extension of the existing. You need to actually move files from the device to the card, remove programs and re-install them to the card instead of the device, set Pocket Outlook to save attachments to the memory card etc
But there is nothing to be uninstalled, cause there are only few programs, that were already in my phone when I bught it.
Should I clear a date storage? Then what will happen with my contact list and messages?
"Clear storage" will delete everything on your phone, including settings etc. It's similar to doing a hard reset.
If you've not got programs installed on your device, how much e-mail/contacts have you got stored on it?
where would i find today plugins etc to remove and then put on memory card,
and would i be better doin same with other folders like video, music etc , im new to the orbit so any advice is helpul thanks
Yes, always store stuff (docs, media etc) on the storage card; only use the phone memory when you REALY have to.
For your own stuff, use the built-in File Explorer and cut and paste all your files from "Documents" (or wherever you've saved them on the device) to the storage card.
As for programs/plug-ins, rather than just move them it's probably better to delete them and then re-install them, selecting "memory card" when it asks where you want to install them.
thanks for yr reply atleast i now know i can put most things on storage card. the onboard memory isnt that big and thats what confused me im use to havin a normal phone the orbit is all new to me thanks again for your help
I am rooted, running Negalite WondeROM v2. Stock kernel. Half the time, when I boot, the contents of my SD card dont show up. I get the gray squares, and when i try to open apps that are on my card, it says that they are not installed, or that I need to download the additional data(which I have already downloaded). Hot boot fixes it. And it doesn't happen all the time. Today, I was trying to update a game I purchased from the Play store, and I keep getting a message saying that I have insufficient external storage space. I have over 9Gb left on a 16Gb card. I used the Android applucation manager to move my apps to external SD, and not an app or anything. I have unmounted, removed, re-inserted and re-mounted my SD card, and the problem is unchanged. My internal storage is close to full, if that makes any difference. I have downloaded an SD fixer app, but when I opened it, it said that my SD was already writeable. Any input or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: making 5Gb space on INTERNAL storage seems to have solved the problem. Sorry for wasting everyone's time. Mods please close thread, OP a jackass.
Edit 2: nope, problem persists. Anyone have any sugestions?
I've been exploiting my mobile at it max since I got the Marshmallow update. Adopted a UHS-1 Samsung EVO 32GB card and used it to its limits.
It has been working fine until today, I woke up to a app screen where all my SD card apps were disconnected and said "App not installed", immediately I went to Storage settings and there I saw that around 100mb was left in my SD card and the bar was red. When I opened it, all the subheading, that is, music, images, videos, all of them show 0.00bytes whereas downloads folder could be accessed.
Tried deleting some files from SD card, managed to get some space from that downloads folder but it didnt work, now the strangest thing started to happen. I tried uninstalling the apps that were on SD card which showed "app not found" and I managed to uninstall them and this also freed up space on my card. Restarted my phone, still no luck.
Next up, I tried migrating data onto my ORIGINAL internal storage (8gb), and it did transfer some data, after maxing out, it said "data left at original location".
All in all, my problem is, that I'm not able to properly mount my SD card, the data is there, but no app is able to access any of it except the internal functions of HTC, like 'migrate' and all.
Need help, please let me know what should I do.
Another question is, if I root my mobile without the SD card and then re-insert the 'adopted sd card' after the root, will it read it? If that would be the case, I'd root my mobile any second. Thank you, eagerly waiting for your replies.
Hello,
Normally, in a perfect world, adoptable storage should allow to enhance memory thank to the sd card.
Anyone who tried to use the adoptable storage with the Nokia 6.1 encountered the problem of corrupt datas.
See
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6-2018/how-to/adoptable-storage-available-pie-update-t3873841
Does someone enough brave already try again to activate this adoptable storage?
Thanks you
yes, I retried it last week (with latest official patch applied).
I migrated > 10GB of data. Afterwards I checked 'DCIM' and 'Download'. All files got totally corrupted (looks like every byte different).
It seems that newly created files were not corrupted. (Was just a fast check with 2-3 pictures)
I migrated back and removed SD card. Files still corrupted. During the last test in ~2019 I figured out that the files some when magically got fixed again some time after migrating back. Hope this happens again this time...
Maybe it also just needs some time after migrating to reencrypt the files for the SD card?
Does anybody know more about the internal processes during and after migration?
Hi, I didn't try the above method, but I used adb commands to format the SD-Card as internal. It basically worked and I am able to run the apps that I migrated to the external card.
HOWEVER:
1. The external card and it's files are completely invisible to any file-system-apps. So I can't see the data.
2. Apps that require some kind of login never keep that login. If you close the app and start it again, you need to login again. This seems to indicated that the apps have been migrated, but are unable to actually use the external space to save new files.
Does anyone think that rooting the device would help?
Cheers,
Calon
my experience with adaptable storage was the same as krisha2k's. all migrated user data I had appeared to become corrupted, and most apps that I moved to the sd card either couldn't save any app data (game saves/logins) or even lost functionality (Snapchat friends list disappeared). some really old and ancient apps that I moved to adoptable storage kept their saves etc (ice cream jump, Neko atsume).
I also found that games with in-app downloads would save their download to the internal storage, as well as external when the app appeared to be stored on the external only.
most apps are broken because of newer android changes that protect external storage write access (and i think read too). I'm not an expert in that though. just speculation
in the end, I just did a factory reset and I've settled with using the sd card as portable storage and storing large files on there (4k video from camera etc).
its a shame because it was a spare 128GB card I had lying around, and I would have liked to have some bigger apps installed, but it doesn't matter too much. but I guess that's just how things are now.
i personally wouldn't recommend doing it. you have potentially everything to loose if you accidentally migrate all your internal data, and what seems to be absolutely nothing to gain.
hi folks,
So i chose the wrong SD card handling (the merged kind?) a while ago and after ejecting the card to set up a bigger one, I realise I now can't access the internal storage on the phone.
installed apps work fine
I can remove apps fine (but not reinstall!)
i can sideload apps fine (oddy!)
I cannot access e.g. photos with gallery apps
file browser apps cant access the internal space at all.
I cannot install anything from the play store, it just shows insuffucient space
apps like twitter crash.
whatsapp works (calls and text), but cant download photos sent, or attach photos.
There is loads of space free (14.65gb used of 32gb internal).
I also have an SD card with loads of space now set as portable storage.
I have the original SD card that was in before, but not in phone (still shows in storage manager).
Any ideas please?! Before i reset the phone and start again!
I have rooted it, but not sure what to fiddle with (the problem started before rooting).
nope? ok i guess i'll be wiping and hoping that fixes it!
moving to another phone for a while...
just to be clear, doing a full reset on the phone while rooted with magisk is ok? (unlocked bl). don't want to brick. android 10 up to date.
thanks, if anyone out there?
alright for the record and anyone else suffering this, i figured it out, and is slightly embarrassingly stupid.
if you set up the sd as combined storage, and still have the sd, put it back in and use the migrate data back to internal option which is hidden in the storage dot top right menu. voila.
then you can eject card, and still access the internal storage.
what you do if you've already wiped the old sd, i've no idea! you're maybe stuffed? hopefully wiping phone would fix it??
don't ever set your sd card as merged, use portable (i knew this, was a mistake).
so anyway, phone working again yay!
