OK, my office SSID is hidden.
I purchased two apps that were over 20 mb, so I have to be connected to wifi or a PC to download.
According to the "manual" just plugging the phone in and launching the zune client should add the applications when connecting to a PC, but it doesn't.
It just keeps the same error on them.
Anyone know how to force it to download the apps?

That should answer you question - I'm in the exact same position, I was the last person to comment in the above thread :/
Even after I connected to WiFi it didn't work, I had to tell it to resume manually, so there might be a step there when connecting to a PC, exit out of the zune software, tell it to restart and then load back up the zune software.
I haven't tried it yet though.

Hello,
I can easyly syncronize with USB or Bluetooth.
I've set a WiFi connection to my ADSL router, it works fine, I can scan the LAN (with ScanIP) and see my PC, but no way to sync...
Though Active Sync 3.8 is installed.
Some of you succeeded, what's the magic ? ? ?
Thanks for sharing,

Cool link, added to my Favorites, thnks for shareing that with us
Superb
Excellent, if only everything was explained like this, keep it up!!!!
It was already here...
I had actually found it on this forum a few months ago...
But since I had put it into my favourites I figured it would have taken me about the same time to give it you than to tell you "go and and look for it"!
Glad it helped.

I struggled with this for awhile and could not get it working. The issue was I had was in the PC WINS setting I had left the LMHOSTS Lookup enabled. As soon as I unchecked that and had the Netbios tab checked it synced up. Thanks for the link. Now I can wifi sync.
another gotcha
I read every thread I could find on several forums regarding activesync via wifi and yet I could not get it to work. Then I finally read on a thread that the PPC network card "My network card connects to:"should be set to connect to WORK not The INTERNET. I changed that one setting and bingo, activesync instantly connected via wifi (I already had a partnership created while connected via USB). Of course to have the PPC connect to the Internet via wifi, you have to set it back but that is easy enough to accomplish.

On my SX66, I don't have to change back to "the Internet" to surf; I just leave it set to "Work".
New problem...activesync connects but
Well, I had everything working, now I have a new issue. I can successfully sync via usb and BT connects. When turn off BT and then tell activesync running on the BA to sync, activesync on both the PC and the BA indicate that they are connected (as BT is off and the BA is out of the cradle, it is obvious that they are connected via WiFi at this point). Then the "looking for changes" meter starts advancing and when it gets about 1/3 of the way finished, it just stops. Both the PC and the BA still show connected and activesync still indicates that it is trying. After several minutes of the no more progress, the PC side activesync indicates that there was a synchronization error.
Any ideas. I have uninstalled activesync 3.8 and reinstalled. I have run the outlook repair utility just in case there was something weird with my outlook pst file (it was clean).
Thanks
David
I have this problem too - I find if i soft reset the unit (and sometimes my computer too) then it works fine. anyone got any ideas?
Tried the soft reset ....
I tried the soft reset on the PPC as well as rebooting the PC and still activesync stops progressing during the sync process about 1/3 of the way thru and eventually reports the synchronization error. I have noted that during BT or usb syncing, the process pauses at the same place for just a split second and then zooms thru the remaining 2/3s of the process. It is like activesync is waiting for somekind of a handshake or acknowledgement from the PPC. I hope someone can shed some light on this.

Have you tried turning off synchronise 'Files' in the activesync options? sometimes funny files can cause this problem?
Only syncing...
The only things I am trying to sync are my contacts, tasks and calendar. I even tried unchecking even those items so that I was essentially NOT syncing anything but activesync via WiFi still stalls at about 1/3 complete. As I did have WiFi/ActiveSync working for a day or so with NO issues and nothing has changed (or I guess I should say, I changed nothing), this is a real mystery.

There seems to be a problem with my Orbit's data connection. When it is first turned on it doesn't automatically show whether I'm in GPRS or EDGE area. It just has the two opposing arrows and an "x". Tapping on this pops up a window and it states that programs will automatically choose when to use a data connection. Ok, great. That shouldn't be a problem. Connecting with PIE or Opera 8, the data connection automatically starts the connection and stays connected. Even after closing either browser. Which is good because this brings me to my problem. I also have the email program called Good loaded. If I try to start this before one of the above browser's, it will try to connect, then show it connected, then drop the connect back to the "G" or "E". 10 seconds later it trys again. It does this for 3 or 4 times then gives me an error stating "there's a problem with my data connection in the roaming area...". But, if I connect to PIE or Opera first, my email client works just fine. This is also a problem if I make/take a phone call. This closes the data connection, my email client tries to reconnect but can't.
This brings me to my questions (yeah!). Is there a registry hack to make the data connection stay connected always? Meaning after a soft reset it auto connects, and, after a call it auto connects as well? Thanks.
I have exactly the same problem. Basically I need to start IE first after a soft reset to make a connection. After that I start Goodlink to use the connection, and access to email etc. The connection also drops periodically, anywhere between 1 to 20 hours. Also, if I perform a synch using ActiveSync, I have re-start IE to get a connection again each time. Therefore, connecting and reconnecting is a issue unless you use IE.
I've used the GB-Soft Tweak, set to "GPRS Aways On", but it makes little difference. Tried to change one or two registry settings, but get message stating it's not accessible, and read-only !. I think unless anyone has any other idea's, we'll have to wait for any forthcoming ROM updates for this fix. Clearly the Artemis is having issues with GPRS connections for Goodlink, unlike it does for other applications that requires a data connection.
Other than that one major bug, works perfectly.
I've fixed mine. Made the following registry hack (mine saves so I guess it's unlocked).
Edit the following:
HKLM\ConnMgr\Provider\7C4BA38*****\TMobile U.S.
The "*****" folder may be different on your device. TMobile U.S. is what I called my Internet Connection in Connections. Your's wll be different of course. Edit the following: AlwaysOn from 0 to 1
Once I reset, the device comes up an automatically connects. No launching IE or Opera. Reconnects after a phone call too. The only time it doesn't is after connecting to a computer and using ActiveSync. Still working on this.
Hi,
Many thanks for the tip. It worked !. The issue was the Regitsry Editor I was using, not allowing access to change the registry key, but changed to PHM's Registry Editor, made the change and like yourself after soft reset, connected, and so far hasn't dropped.
Let me know if you get any work-arounds for the remaining issue i.e. after connecting to a PC using ActiveSync.
Cool! Glad it worked. I wonder if it's one of those issues where Good isn't "officially" supported on the Orbit. I work in IT and I know how vendors can be when you call them for a non-supported device.
I just flashed the original ROM to my phone last night as an attempt to clean it back up. So far I've installed: Google Maps, Seven, Opera 5 mini beta, Microsoft My phone, Advanced Config tool, .Net 3.5, eras2r 3G CommManager Addon, Marketplace, and MS 3.5.
I had the latest Facebook app installed and it worked, decently. When I uninstalled it and installed an older version I started to not be able to connect to FB or to my internet. I've tried resetting settings, and restoring a lot of items to default. I have sense uninstalled FB from my phone completely but still can not connect to the internet on my phone. I am able to receive e-mails. I'm connected to 3G (showing an H connection) and tried to switch it over to Edge but still no dice. I'm connecting to Media Net for any connections that try and access the network.
I did make some headway by connecting to the WiFi at work. When connected I can connect to the internet just fine. This however is limiting and I don't like connecting to wifi if I don't have to.
I was using ActiveSync to transfer some cabs to my phone from my pc and just unplugged it when I finished the last transfer, hopefully that didn't cause the issue. I've performed numerous SoftResets but still having the issue.
Anyone know what I can check? I'd like to avoid Hard Resetting if possible as I hate having to set up everything again.
Edit: Forgot to add the error message when trying to get on the internet:
"Connection Failed: Unable to connect. Please review your network settings."
Is anyone able to help? This is really frustrating me
An update (hope this helps): I ran the "Enable hidden proxy" feature that the ROM comes with and switched opera over to a Socket connection. This allows Opera to work fine, but not in HTTP mode (like it was this morning). I am still unable to connect to Facebook.

You are going to need to provide more information. Which carrier (they have different Internet settings), which "Stock ROM" version.
Sorry, I'm using the Tilt 2 on the AT&T network. I eventually got frustrated enough with it yesterday that I performed a hard reset, which fixed it. I flashed the March 17th version of the 2.5 Energy ROM and had a hiccup at one point. I don't know if this is related or not, but I had plugged my phone into my work laptop and used active sync (it's now set to file transfer instead) so that I could charge my phone. About 5 minutes after unplugging it from my laptop I was unable to go to any website. A soft-reset resolved it.
edit: I really think it may have something to do with my plugging it in to my work computer. Right now I can't connect to FB via the app, I can open Opera and google search, but when trying to go to a website it gives me: "Could not find proxy server"
wireless sync is only possible if the phone is connected to a charger for 10 minutes, isnt it possible to sync the phone with wifi without having the phone charging?

Doesn't look like it. According to the official page:
• Your phone and PC are both connected to your home Wi-Fi network. Note that wireless sync is not supported on workplace Wi-Fi networks.
• Your phone battery has at least a medium-level charge ( ) and your phone is connected to an AC power adapter (that is, your phone must be connected to the wall charger and not connected to your computer).
• You're not interacting with your phone. For example, you're not touching things on the screen, the backlight is off, and music and videos aren't playing (it's OK if a song or video is paused).
Down at the very bottom of the topic on the official site "There is no way to manually force it to occur."
Thus the answer is no.

I haven't been able to do wireless sync at all yet. It sets up fine, but nothing happens. Over night, not touching my phone at all. >50% charge.
"Workplace Wi-Fi networks". What does that even mean? Am I working too hard at home? Does my phone think I'm at work all the time?
WP7 Wireless sync Setup error C00D07C9
Hi,
I am trying to setup wireless sync in Zune and it gives me this error mentioning zune is not able to connect to wireless. can anyone please help.
I looked at the web help and more details on the error and also tried all kinds of encryption with no luck. There is not much explanation on the microsoft website also. Please advise.
Seems to work for me, but i forgot about it until, randomly a few days ago on wall charge, Zune popped up on my PC and it started syncing,
I seem to USB charge it rather than wall socket, so was surprising.
I was like "Huh.........oh yeah"
Thanks for the reply. I disabled symantec client firewall and anti virus and that did the trick. Thanks again.

i don't think that is an ideal solution. see if you can add an exception in the firewall for zune software, and perhaps fine out what port zune runs off and allow access for that port to zune. you want to keep your firewall and anti virus on. not sure what port zune is on though.
If you use Microsoft Security Essentials's free AV solution / Windows Defender firewall, you won't have any problems with wireless sync. Remember to leave your PC switched on though.

tHat was done and enabled again after setup. Yesterday when I disabled again, it triggered sync. I added all exe from Zune folder as exception and need to test today
Thank you
Hi All,
Unfortunately i still could not get over the problem. When symantec is on, wireless sync is not happening. When i disable it for 30 mins, it happens in next few minutes.
As i do not want to do this everytime, can you please advise what can be done.
I have looked at the zune folder and added all exe and dll there in the symantec list to permit. I also installed zunedevices.exe and also added all the files which are showing in the file list.
I searched microsoft, google and could not find any instructions for symantec.
Please help.
I also cannot get wireless sync to work. I do not have Norton on my computer though. The only Anti Virus I run is Microsoft Security Essentials. The computer that I am trying to sync to is a laptop and is also wirelessly connected to the internet at my house, could that be an issue? I have the laptop set up where it never goes to sleep, even if is opened or closed.
Any help would be appreciated!

Are you facing issue while setting up the sync itself. You will need to connect the device with wire to the laptop and setup wireless sync. If you are facing issue in this stage itself, you may try changing the wireless encryption and try.
I am facing issue with setup and sync also when norton is on. I disabled it and could able to setup sync however everytime i want to sync, then also need to disable huh..
I was able to set up the sync fine. It just never actually works. I've undone the wireless sync and redone it several times.
I'm debating doing a restore on the phone and trying it again. BUT don't want to go that route unless I absolutely have to. It seemed way easier to set my phone back up after a flash on 6.5
I'm also in the same boat but dealing with a corporate firewall (which I am admin to so can make changes) That said, I'm trying to follow the instructions for my specific error which are;
•If you're using Shared Key encryption with a WEP-based network, you need to manually select that network type. Zune assumes that any WEP-based network is using Open System authentication. To manually select Shared Key encryption:
1.
In the Zune software, click Settings, Device, Wireless Sync.
2.
Click Set Up Wireless Sync, Show Advanced Settings.
3.
Under Network Type, select Shared Authentication Using WEP Key and enter your network key.
My problem is with item 2. I cant see anywhere the option for Show Advanced Settings. Can anyone else confirm this?
Thanks.
I also could not find the place to change settings.
I posted this q'n/feature in the DVP forum. But thought it would be more appropriate here. Pardon me if this is a stupid q'n.
I was playing with my Dell Venue Pro WP7 device. When browisng the IE i stumbled upon the search result coming from dlinksearch. To test this when WP7 is connected to PC, try typing contacts.exe(or anything that is invalid) in WP7 IE, then result will come from your router seacrh if configured. That made wonder why would my home router default search come from WP7 device when i am not connected to wifi. Upon further researching, i found that when the WP7 device is connected to the PC and zune running, the router and local home network can be accessed via IE with no wifi turned on.
Eg: If you have Tversity running on your home network, try accessing the URL (their port is 41952), if will show your music and videos. Unfortunately, when i play a music, it downloads the music, but ends up giving the message (zune is connected and being sync'd and asks to disconnect). I guess the WP7 zune player is launched infact, but since zune cannot play when connected to PC, it stops there. Now it can play when on wifi and not connected to pc.
My question is ,
1. is this normal behavior for WP7 or any mobile device?
2. Is MS transferring files to the phone via some web address when connected to PC?
3. Is there a simple way to access local home media server music and files via this route and stream them? See edit below.
4. Is Wifi turned on automatically when connected to PC?
EDIT : More findings
Infact i am able to access the local media server with wifi on and not connected to PC... it is streamed and played. Nice WP7.
This proves the theory that WP7 is turning on wifi automatically(?) when connected to PC and zune running.
Now i can stream all kinds of video and audio formats to my WP7 (all encoded by Tversity).
Looks like someone else already tried the tversity - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10510376&postcount=4
