All of a sudden when I try to download files through 4shared they wont work because they are .bin files. Is bthere a way to make them work or what. It seems like they are all changing. It sucks.
Sounds like you have an app on your phone that' s conflicting.
What file manager are you using? What what are you downloading m

Astro. Some files will download fine, then some say they wont work with the phone. I dont get it. One file I was trying to download was root explorer. All of the links are .bin files. I didnt think it would be anything on the phone. Sometimes I will look for something, it will give me several download options and versions. some work some dont.
Figured out one thing. If I download the .apk file from 4shared on my laptop and transfer to my phone then install through Astro it works. If I try download through 4shared site on phone that is when some not all files say they are .bin . Whats that all bout?
I think if you go to settings in astro and hit download unsupported content or something like that they will work hope I helped

Thats not the problem. Astro works fine. Its when I select a download from the actual 4shared website through the phone some files say its not supported on this phone. But if I download the exact same file through my laptop and then install through astro the file installs as an apk. and works fine. I just want to know if anyone else is seeing this or what. Its just puzzling.
Hey all you have to do is when the .bin appears to save and name the file just type whatever.apk. so if your downloading let's say NFL.apk in it appears as .bin just type NFL.apk and download and save. Then goto astro and install.
Thanks to all. I will give it a shot.

Confirmed this is the correct way to do this. I was having this same issue when I was trying to reinstall Swype.
Nice, thanks for the tip. I too was having that problem, I dont use astro, just OI and root explorer. Renaming the .bin. to xxx.apk installs the app.
I think its been happening to everyone

Sometimes, when I download a zip file of an apk, my mac unzips it into a folder with all the internal files, not as one apk file.
This almost always happens when I download from mediafire. Sometimes from other sites as well.
Any way to get around this without running windows? Or to quickly repackage the folder into an apk?
It seems to do the same thing on my evo when I transfer the zip from my mac.
If I could open mediafire and other such sharing sites on my evo, I would, but they don't run correctly in my browser.
I appreciate the help.

Those site should work fine in your browser, may want to check into that. Anyways, don't open the file after you download. Just rename to a .apk file and you'll be good to go. Macs can screw up zip files like apks and update.zips, so definitely don't open it. Renaming always works for me. Then you can load it on your phone.
If your using Safari it will all ways do that unless you change your settings in preferences in Safari so it wont automatically open files. It is set by default to open any folder when you download hope that helps I have a Mac too

Thanks for the advice. I'll try all of that going forward.
My downloads keep failing, and it sucks having to restart them from 0%, is there a app that will allow me to resume failed downloads? Ty
Edit: Crap not where I wanted to put this...

I don't know of one but you could try opera mobile browser. It is very good with downloads.
Install this. It will let you download nearly any file in the stock browser.
Download this file and rename the extension to .apk instead of .txt
I am unable to download files to my phone i just get download failed every time I click on a link. I remember having this problem with my vibrant but can't remember the fix. If someone could remind me that would be great. Thanks
Get astro file manager from the market. Its free. Open it, hit menu then preferences
the check download all files. Should be kosher then!
Get Download All Files from the market.. Works with stock browser

I take it that it goes to another page? If so I copied the text from that page into a file in the destination folder called chrome-command-line and set the permissions, which works well.
Download the attached file, place it in the data/local folder and delete the .zip extension, set permissions to read write execute, read execute and read execute. Force stop chrome and re start it and voila all is good in desktop mode.
Hope this helps
Rob
Thanks for the download link. Uber noob here. How do you set the permissions?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Root manager or es file explorer will let you change permissions, just long press the file for the option to change permissions.
Thanks...super easy
thanks! i'll try it soon. :good:
it's a pain for some websites that always go into mobile mode.
Sadly this doesnt work. it doesnt save request desktop mode and still forces me to mobile sites. And yes I did copy the file to the right location and chmodded it.....

You are wrong.
After a restart it works fine, the check box won't be checked in chrome. A good indicator... go to Meritrust credit unions website... if it loads with login capabilities you succeeded. This worked for me, thank you op

You have it named "chrome-command-line" only right? Not "chrome-command-line.txt" etc? If you have it named that with the correct permissions it should work...

Yea its renamed "chrome-command-line" without the "". And the permissions I set with ES File explorer is:
RWE
RE
RE
In that order.
Works for me too.
I was about to say you may have the file name wrong because I did but apparently that's not the case.
I cleared data too in chrome. Might not have been necessary but just saying.

So here is my problem.
When using my hotspot on my Win8 computer, it wont let me click through certain webpages like cashback websites like bigcrumbs and ebates and gets stuck on the redirection pages like "anrdoezrs.net" when tranfering me to a specific website. It won't fuly transfer me through to the store I want to gain cashback at.
I recently got the new computer with Win8 on it. Now that I have have tried my hotspot on multiple Win8 computers with it not working, I'm assuming it must be the problem. It ran perfectly with Win7 beforehand.
I am currently running [ROM]Phantom's Blazer Rom[Yo][8/2/12][v0.1.5][FF18]
I did notice on the tethering options of my phone that it did not list that it supported Win8. (Yet it does work for mostly all of the websites except the ones I'm speaking of).
Is there a way to fix my problem with the Rom version I'm running right now? (I know its a little outdated).
Do I need to update to a newer version of the Blazer rom? Or should I get a different rom?
(I need to have a rom that has the 4g hacked hotspot and it need to be able to be used with my PS3 for online gaming as well).
Thanks for listening
Do you have adblockers on your phone? This may be the problem.

Blazer rom has it built in. Delete system/etc/hosts file (filename is hosts) with a root browser. If you need it back, I posted an updated one here:

Root explorer is my personal choice as well as many others.
What TD meant, a root browser that will properly read the root directory. Some file browsers fail at that.

Root Explorer on the market is $3.99. Anything free available? Right below it there is a "ES File Explorer File Manager" which is free. Will that work?

Can't figure out where to go still.
I downloaded Rom Toolbox Light.
Then went to system, then to etc, THEN I get the option between "HOSTS" and the one under it is also "hosts".
They both have similar files in them, "text file, image file, music file, video file, zip file, APK file, script file"
Where do I go from her now? And what do I do?

Bump some moar? Read some moar?
Seriously though, it's a text file. Just delete it or delete its contents.
Also, I believe using your phone as a hotspot without paying for it is violating your TOS. It's a good way to get kicked off the network.
