[Q] Best way to do apps to sd without losing anything? - Desire General

Hi guys, I used to mod my old G1 all the time, never had a need to on the Desire until now, I'm running out of room every day!
I have a rooted Desire with rooted stock ROM, I'm wanting to do apps2sd old style (not the google way!)
What's the best way to go about this?
I have a 16Gb card in the phone but I don't want to lose any apps or settings I already have installed (I have backed my SD card up to my PC so I can put the 3 partitions on)
Once I have set the 3 partitions, what do I install to enable Apps2SD and where from?
any help appreciated

Anyone?
Maff, from my Tab

I'm in the same boat, in addition to what "mmace" has asked, is it actually possible to use app2sd on stock roms once rooted, and also, for those that are using apps2sd, is it possible to unmount your card and use it as a storage device on your pc, or will that screw everything up...

Desire froyo with green file mod

After many tribulations i have eventually managed to instal stock froyo on my debranded desire and i have also introduced the green file mod to make all my apps install to the sd card by default.
My question is which apps can happily remain on my sd card and which really need to stay on my phone memory?
Am i correct in assuming that games can work happily from my card?
Is it practical to run google maps and google earth for instance, from the card.
Ideally i would like some informed opinion as to the type of apps which can go to the storage card and the types which need to remain on the phone memory to function correctly.
Thanks in advance for any help.
P.S. Really love froyo.
I'm no expert about this but as far is I am aware u should install any widget apps and apps that auto start on power up should be installed to phone. All others are fine on SD. I may be wrong though.
How do I do the green file mod to install apps to sd?
I've used search but cant find it. Even using google.

[Q] could someone please tell me how to change sd card

hi all,
as i was testing my new desire using the 4gb card it came with, i did all the rooting with that card in, am now running on defrost 3.1 and all my mods are done.
I tried to partition my other 8gb card using the rom manager on another phone as my phone wont run without the sd card in, then once that was done, i cloned the cards ie copied the data on my mac, then copied it off to the new card.
started the phone with the new card but most features of defrost are not available and alot of the apps are missing.
now when you go to the application manager, it shows you where stuff is installed but it says they are on the phone, presume this is cos a2sd is more of a tricking the phone than a physical change of location for the installed apps
anyway, so my question is, can you change the sd card without re installing the rom?
thank you in advance
anyone????

sorry mate didnt see this till now. in short no.
your phone should work without an sd in it, format the 8gb card use rom manager to partition or use AmonRa fake flash to partition (i prefer this way) and start over again. i know its a pain but its the safest way to do it.
i personally wiped everything on sd and phone so there was no partition and nothing on the phone, then i flashed my rom (dont do any mods yet) then either using amonra or rom manager, partition the phone may take a while to boot up but just LEAVE IT. then do everything again ie mods and apps. long i know but like i said its the safest way also you cant **** anything up.
hope this helps

[Q] Hopefulyl simple question

Hi all. U want to upgrade my 8GB to either 16 or 32GB (want more music for the car!)
I have stock orange ROM (2.1), no root, no nothing (I will when S-OFF is done with unrevoked, but more on that another time!)
Anyways, I have a few apps and data, etc. Is it a case of buying the new card, removing 8GB card from Phone (switch it off first) and copying everything off the current card using windows and then copying onto the 32GB, and then shove back in phone and switch on?
I had heard about encrypted stuff, etc, so wanted to make sure it was as simple as this as I hope! I know my apps are on the internal memory.
Thanks

[Q] Problems with moving applications to my SD card

Hey people, I'm experiencing some problem with moving Apps to my SD card.
I'm quite a lazy bump and writing this topic probably takes more time than redownloading all of my stuff But I'm stubborn and I want to know how this works.
The reason I want to move stuff to my SD card is the fact I ****ed some stuff up and I want to install a stock rom
I was installing the new system update via this GUIDE, thanks fly out to hamdir
Unfortunately, something went wrong (check it out here), because I had preinstalled apps removed, and by-passing the problem it caused didn't work out well...
So now I want to install a stock rom so the preinstalled stuff will be there again, and I will be able to update it properly.
------------------------
So, the actual question.
Because I want to have all my applications on my SD card anyway, I started moving it through Manage Applications.
For some applications (apps I surely installed myself), I cant select the ''Move to SD" option, while if they already were on my SD card it would say Move to phone - which it doesnt.
Any idea on why I can't? I maked sure they werent running
Because some apps don't work properly if you run them from t the sd card. You'd be better off looking at an app called titanium backup for what you are trying to do.
Sent from my performance enhanced Desire HD
To use titaniumbackup I will need root acces which I mysteriously lost (check the link I gave, hope someone could still assist me there a little..!)
It would seem weird to me that compatability with the SD card is the issue because some of my simple games I can't move either.
For example: Armored Strike. Is there anyone who has this on his phone that wants to check if he is able to move it to SD card?
Thanks

[Q] newb question maybe answered already Galaxy Note 2 first time android user

Hello All,
I just got my note about 1 week (SGH i317M) ago really enjoying it,
but couple question is still a wonder in my head..
i come from an iphone world so all this, is confusing for me
1) Could you root while keeping all your things intact (base band, kernel, build)?
2) Also ive seen couple threads saying that you can't use a micro sd card has an internal drive,
Does my phone has to be rooted to be able to do this?
3) Let say i custom root my phone is there a way back to revert the official samsung firmware if i don't like it
4)how come i don't have multi window on my device is it part of a new android Version right now i'm on 4.1.1?
Thanks
1) Yes. Check out chainfire's auto root in the original android section. It's the best rooting method for beginners.
2) I don't quite understand what you mean. Both FAT32 and Exfat format micro sd work in my note2. However, note2 doesn't allow you to move apps to sd card. There are workarounds that can help with that issue (such as: external to internal swap / Directory bind) but those of course require root. Again, I'm not sure I understood the question correctly.
3) Yes. You just need to flash stock firmware over again or factory reset.
4) You need to update your firmware. Two of my friends who bought note2 didn't get multiwindow out of the box even though it was 4.1.1. They got it once they updated.
What I understand

I think he means "Can he use the SD card as an internal drive?". That is the SD card as internal memory.
He comes from iPhone world so he may not be able to frame the question properly.
Well you can always move the apps to the SD card it is a default Android feature.
But it still occupies some internal memory.
However, to partition the SD card and to use a partition as extended drive SD-EXT you need to root I guess.
