Whats your favorite alternative app to messaging, like chompsms or handsent
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
i have both and i use handcent the most i use chomp when im looking at pics
love handcent
Handcent. Even paid for the no ads version. Just the best.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Handcent right now cause ChompSMS doesn't have the option of leaving the display off when you get a message..the quick reply always will turn the display on when you have it turned off
I agree, Handcent is great. Has a lot of customization options. Turn off notification on stock SMS and give it a try.
Handcent is the way to go. Been using it since my G1 days.
yeah I and almost everyone I know with an android device have gone with handcent. With that and sms2pc, texting is actually fun
Sent from my HTC Vision
I have been using handcent for since I got my g1 but recently I've gone back to chomp because I like the widget, quick reply and preformance better then handcent. Setting the lock screen notification to 10 seconds is really useful and actually is more efficient on my phone then handcent which seemed to be a huge battery drain

I like the CyanogenMod messenger. Looks like the stock one but with a black backdrop and white letters.
Yeah CM's always been better but I can't decide if I want to void the warranty already.

warrenty is only void if they found out about the root =]

handcent has that option ya know...
handcent>settings>notfication settings>enable popup
Ya I know...I was just saying that the gay iPhone has a pop messaging no need of downloading an app...I was just saying that they should of made the g2 with that option too..instead of having to download an app

Holy crap Handcent is soooooooo cooooool!
I downloaded it after I read some posts saying how it is without a doubt the best.
And it is amazing
handcent has always been great, lots of ways to customize and many options.
I use Google Voice, so I use the GV interface, as that is the only thing available to me.
so handscent is really that much better than chompSMS?

Has anyone had good experience with a aftermarket text ap? I've tried heaps and dont like them. The stock app jumbles my texts all up so im trying to find a better one.
Handcent is what I use. It is quite nice allowing different tones for different people for example.

If you must have the stock messaging app, use SMS popup from the market. Free and does what you need. Otherwise, use Handcent.
So far handcent is working about 50 times better than that stock usless text. Thanks!

I remember the UI being ugly/bad on that app. Is it still?

I have been using sms popup since the G1 days until now. I found it has been a root of some keyboard issues and audio issues for sms notifications.
Anyone else noticing random sms issues of any kind? Remove sms popup. I have sms as an app to open from the lockscreen so im not missing it too much.
Love the Overclocked "nonsense" CM7
Not an answer to your question persay but handscent has pop up sms in it already and is covered in awesomesuace
* I'm just sayin......
It also has ads in it.

Try go sms pro. Its free. Ad free. Mulitple presets for your liking. Better than any other sms app in my opinion

You don't even notice the ads. They're in the options menu. Let the damn developers make some type of money. Geez.
I 2nd handcent as the best! Better than gosms, chomp, and smspopup

I understand the purpose for ads, but its still annoying.

To each his own I guess... I never even noticed it had ads (I mean how often do you go into options?)

The most popular are definetly Gosms and Handcent; but, apparently there was a trojan found in the most recent release of Gosms. I am currently using the stock messenger because of its simplicity (don't like a messy interface) and I want to change. Handcent and Gosms are both too complicated for me, sure I like options but not 1000+ options. What's a simple, fast, and good messenger app that uses very little ram (preferably less than stock). Yes I know, you don't need to worry about ram with android;however, I worry about it regardless.
I'm using stock for now. Hopefully go SMS fixes real or false positive Trojan. Handcent 4.0 suppose to be coming out guess I'll be trying that soon.

I used to use GoSMS on my HTC phones since stock HTC messaging looks like no one tried on it lol, but on this one I'm definitely sticking to the stock messaging app.
I personally prefer hand cent been using it since mytouch 3g days

I like the stock messaging app for CM7... with ics theme and black background, spoofed mms to sony ericsson
Im still running stock

I use ChompSMS. I tried Handcent and GoSMS. I didn't like them.
Anyone else have an issue with the stock messaging app -always- sending delivery report notifications, even which not checked in the menu settings?
Every message I send, comes back with another notification saying "Delivered"
Annoying, and I can't figure it out.
(Using Darkside Rom)
Are you guys able to use picture messaging on handcent sms? I deleted stock app cuz I never use it and after deleting stock sms app, MMS doesn't work on handcent sms
GoSMS. You can customize it to almost look like the ICS stock sms.

I prefer the cm7 stock with ics theme, its easy to do and it works great with spoofed SMS... why would you spend time customizing when you could just change the theme to look like ics???

I thought handcent uses their own mms settings... you should check the settings within handcent.
Whatsapp messenger... funny icons/no mms problems/sent via data so good for international/roaming.
Of course, the person your texting has to have it installed too...
i use handcent..fully customized ..different fonts and themes...many options with pop ups...i tried them all i keep going back to it..lol..

I'm using the stock messenger app. My favorite is handcent though. My past phones were all HTC's and a Dell Streak so I found a better one than those stock apps but I don't mind using the stock one. I will probably be looking into changing it though pretty soon.
The stock one is pretty cool.
I use handcent. I love stock ics messaging. I want it!

Has anyone tried Pansi?

Looks cool and not bloated.
I have been using Handcent for years now. Simply because the customization of notifications. That way I usually mute the twitter updates that are forwarded to my phone, but when someone else msg me, I can hear the notification sounds.
I am trying to find a better sms alternative to stock sms app.. I hate how they made the sms threads and the text field box so huge you can see anything when your typing..
I use GoSMS. It's highly customizable and there are tons of themes for it in the market. I can't give any advice in anything else since GoSMS does exactly what I need so I haven't tried any of the other ones.
go sms, hands down.

I always liked handcent, lots of options
Go sms and handcent are great. Go sms with the edge.
Go SMS all the way. Love the themes and free built in SMS backup feature

I'd have to say go brand is the best. Not just SMS wise but best screen lock and themes. Its kinda like a mini playstore

+1 handcent
Didn't the go team steal people's private information?

Handscent. Go SMS has way too much clutter.
I am far an away best pleased with GO SMS. I have tried a few others, but GO SMS is IMHO opinion is the absolute best. It has the best theme options, and the pop-up is great!
Another vote for go SMS! Hands down the best I have tried. Like many others said tons of themes and so much customization!
well I have tried both Gosms and handcent, and they are both fast becomming bloatware, making them slower and slower IMHO..
currently using gosms as there no other really good one out there I can find, but I noticed tonight that it is now putting in more and more ads , so IF I can find one that lets me change the background AND NOT have those horrible bubbles in messages I will be moving away from gosms very fast.
+1 for go SMS. I used it when my MMS wasn't working on revolt ROM and it was the best I had tried.

I was using go sms than sliding messaging.
Loved the quick sms on sliding but as laggy. So I switch back to stock tw
I loved go sms because of the emoticons.

ive had really bad experiences texting people with iPhones. they dont receive go sms apps that well. (unless theyre JB) which sucks cause a ton of people have iPhones.
personally i use the native SGS3 messaging app, or line app for my family overseas. (its free! )
Gosms pro, there is some things i dont like about it but I haven't been very impressed with other SMS apps. I use the stock SMS app at times to send pictures over wifi calling but that's about it

I use the stock messaging app with SMS Popup... Works fine for me. I like that I can respond to texts without unlocking my device (although that could be a bad thing for security - but then again, I just use swipe to unlock anyway since I guard my phone like Fort Knox).
