Hey all. first time here. have a question you all might be able to help with. I heard that unrevoked now works for evo with 3.0 builds. if this is true ( I need to find out) how do I make a back up, so that if I ever need to go back to before root? I only did my friends phone with unrevoked. then I got mine later, so I am kinda new to the rooting thing. any suggestions or places I can be pointed to?

Yes, it's this little thing called a SEARCH...
Ignore his smart remarks, what is the hboot on your phone and was your phone shipped with froyo on it?

If you updated, there's no quick and easy way for you. You either do it the long ugly way, or you don't have a rooted Evo
I HAVE AN HTC EVO AND NEED TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE ON DOWNLOADING AND FLASHING ROMS, I'VE USED ROM MANAGER AND NO LUCK. I'VE PAID ATTENTION TO FORUMS AND TRIED SEVERAL TIMES. IS THERE ANYONE THAT CAN TAKE THE TIME TO CHAT WITH ME ON GOOGLE OR WHEREVER TO WALK ME THROUGH THIS PROCESS OF SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLING ROMs? I'VE BEEN THROUGH SO MANY FORUMS AND NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK. WHO HAS THE TIME TO SHOW ME HOW TO DO THIS? HIT ME UP
im bored.. hit me up i dont mind helpin.
First off, are you rooted?
Your problem: Rom Manager
You most likely have the updated ClockWork and that's why you can't flash ROM's.

OK. Just got my evo 4G last night (6/20/2011). It came with 2.3.3 on it. I want to root it.. seems not possible. So ive heard you should flash it back to 2.2.x for you to be able to root it. Wellllll this is alot different then my samsung captivate which was cake walk. Does any one have any ideas/link/how too's on how to do this? is it possible?
Thanks, Matt.

Don't think it's possible with a new device. If your security level is set so s-off from being opreviously rooted then you can downgrade, but with a new phone already sporting 2.3 I don't think there's currently a root solution. Be patient is the only advice at this point.

Not possible. The only people that have been able to do this had rooted their phone previously using unrevoked forever and have s-off. You are going to have to wait for an exploit.
damn. Hopefully its out before july 18th lol. I kinda need it rooted by then... damn Thanks for the help tho

HTC locked the bootloader that came with the OTA which means thats no bueno for us lol. Unless HTC sends out an update that unlocks the bootloader or devs find an exploit (loophole) it could take MONTHS to achieve root.
Need to downgrade latest, 2.3.3 back to 2.2. anyone got anything for me?
There are countless threads on this subject in the Q&A forum. Please remember the forum rules before posting in the development board.

depends on what he's wanting to do..if he's rooted trying to go stock or keep froyo with root, also, if he's stock GB and wants to go back to froyo, won't happen, hBoot versions different and will pop up with a message saying the update is too new or something like that.
so a little info on his part will help us out by helping him out!

Sorry, just so frustrated getting out of the latest. 2.3.3 / 4.24.651.1 was a new device and came preinstalled and updated. Been trying again today unsuccessfully, I feel so out of place with the only one in here unrooted?? LOL
Anyhows was really looking into on just delparting it(networkingskills) starting to take over my thoughts. Hell with it, delpart it n ,get dos boot disk made from win2000 to recreate Rom from cmd prompts?
Is there such a wipe? Mean just wipe all clean without it going back to recovery to reboot from?

Whats the good news? They dont mention the EVO4G in there, and they wont unlock it either. Its almost to its EOL, they want us to buy new phones so why unlock it?
My 2¢
if you have another sprint phone.....
Call sprint, swap esn to other phone.
Sell yours on craigslist.
Buy another one on craigslist that's rooted (call and swap esn to phone to make sure it works)
Go home, install whatever you want.

My dad's evo is running GB. Unrooted. He wants to root and use the CM7 rom. Is it possible to go back to Froyo from GB with an unrooted EVO?

No you can not go backwards.
Also I see this is your first post... Just an fyi - do a little searching because just about any and every question you could think of has been answered on here. If your pops is not running the latest 4.xx software version then rooting is possible
Really? On my Droid I can SBF it back to Froyo? Something like that isnt possible with the EVO?

Not unless you are rooted... then you can do whatever you like. Evo's have a locked bootloader which prevents that from happening
HTC doesn't have a sbf program, and the file it uses to manually upgrade won't let you downgrade to froyo. Unfortunately its stock or get a different phone for now.

Darn. Alright. Thanks for the help guys!
Just FYI, if you do some digging you'll find a thread where a guy said that online customer service said that folks at Sprint repair facilities can downgrade for you. This has turned out to be entirely false, so don't get your hopes up if you read that somewhere.
