[Q] metamorph theme problem for Redemption Rom, help - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I created a metamorph file that had a bunch of .pngs in it to replace some in framework-res.apk. I put them all in a folder called drawable-hdpi-v4 and put that inside a res folder and put that inside a framework-res folder. I edited an existing xml file that i borrowed from skyraiders and ran metamorph. I pulled the framwork-res.apk file out with adb and verified that all the pics went in but they wont show up on the phone. I have rebooted, ran metamorph several times, cleared cache but they just dont show up. What am I doing wrong? I am using redemption rom v2.2

This should not be in the dev section....
What images/xmls did you edit?
Also, what edits to the xmls?

Framework-res.apk editing???

How can I edit the nightly framework.apk correctly? I tried unzipping it by renaming it from .apk to .zip. I inserted the .png's to the appropriate place (they were battery images from the status bar) zipped it back up and renamed it from .zip to .apk. I flashed the rom and the default battery images were still there. Any answers? Thanks.

When I did it I didn't rename i just right clicked and opened with winrar or winzip. Dragged whatever in and it worked.
My experience with this is using Matteslide. The rom only comes with free version of launcherpro. I just stole the themes from there and dragged it into the plus version.
Though i would think that you would have to resign an apk after editing it. idk.
OK, I got it working, all I did was decompile the apk, edited the .pngs and recompiled it. Your not suppose to sign it. Thanks, Ill be trying to port some themes now.

could someone help me make a zip file

i want to make a morph and usually i download someone else's zip and just use that. i can make the xml file and what not. but i downloaded a morph thats a zip file and wevery time i try to delete the folders out of the moroph i dont want included, such as browser, it just says winzip is not responding and wont allow me to delete anything from the already zipped file. so how do i take my morph that is just a standard folder and make it a zip so i can use it as a morph. i have winzip. i dont need to sign the zip for a morph do i?
You don't need a zipped folder to use as metamorph. Just place it in AndroidThemes on your sdcard( folder that metamorph makes automatically). After that just chose pick existing theme and apply.

Second: use 7-zip instead of winzip. Better compression, faster, and most importantly its free.

In a nutshell: If you are running an aosp rom, pull the framework-res.apk from /system/framework. If using sense I think you have to pull com.htc.resources.apk from the same place instead.
Then make three copies of the file you are using. Make one for backup then unzip the second one. You can then look through the unzipped apk under /res/drawable-hdpi for the images you want to change. Use your favorite editor to change the color of the images.
When you've made all the changes you want, use 7-zip to open (not unzip) the third copy of the apk that you haven't touched yet. Drag and drop the edited images into the same folder in the opened apk, overwriting the old ones.
Now you should be able to push this apk back to your phone.

Need Help With Theme Porter

I am trying to port the Inexus theme for CM7 to my Inc.
Here is the theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853544
I unzipped the CM7.zip and extracted the files into the "place here foder" in the update.zip 2.0 program (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717437).
I then took the app and framwork folders from the place here folder and put them in the "new" folder of the Theme-porter v1.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737526&page=2). I then downloaded the Inexus theme and put the app and framework from that into the "old" folder. I ran the batch which transfered all of the themed files i need in the app and framework folders.
I then put the new themed files back into the place here folder where they came from, and ran the update.zip batch to create my new signed.zip update.
The trouble I am running into is that the installation in CMW 3.0.0.8 keep aborting.
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
I used the theme porter, then just replaced the framework and app folders in the original .zip. Flashed and worked fine for me under CWM 3.0.0.8.
still needing help porting the inexus theme to my dinc! HELP!

I can help you out halfway. To change the boot animation, download one that you would like, browse to system/media from root explorer or another file explorer and replace the old one with the one you downloaded and reboot

Explained here, but it may not work right with files that have already been modified. They might not decompile correctly, I'd check with Tim before changing anything though, he'll let you know if it's workable.

I have already made a mod for the carrier labels in the fi27 update. The new carrier label says team rejectz. If you would like to make your own carrier label(s) for fh23 for your own personal use, here's how...
What you will need:
-Pc/laptop updated with the latest java /sdk/jdk. (google it)
-Team Rejectz quick fix. (xda-dev section)
-Root file explorer such as : root explorer or ES file explorer OR adb shell on your pc to pull/push files from your pc to your phone.
-Notepad++ (google it)
-7 zip (google it)
- rooted e4gt and a NANDROID BACKUP!
1. Pull the framework res from your phone. Make a copy and save it. (system/framework)
2. Use the quick fix to decompile the framework res apk. The quick fix will make a framework res folder.
3. Go to res/values/strings.xml and open it with NotePad ++
4. At the top of NotePad ++ you will see an icon that looks like a pair of binoculars. That's the search icon.
Search for "Sprint". You should get 3 instances.
5 edit "Sprint" to say Black or Team Rejectz, your name or whatever you like. Just make sure its not too big or it won't work.
6. Recompile. After quick fix is done recompiling, there will be 2 new folders in the framework res folder; build, and dist. Go into the dist folder and you will see your new framework res apk.
7. Open the archive (don't extract, just open archive) of both the original copy of the framework res and the new one you edited from the dist folder. Drag and drop the META inf folder from the original to the modded apk. Now double click on the res folder in both archives. Drag and drop the drawable hdpi folder from the original to the modded archive.
Close out the archives and push your new framework res to system/app on your phone with either adb or your rooted file explorer. If you use the file explorer to push the framework res make sure you set the permissions the same as the rest of the system apks first. Push, reboot, enjoy.
Thanks

Thanks, will try. And the boot animations, you agree with Stryke_the_Orc and others or you have a better method for Black Rom v1.3.

Yea. Tried this today. I ran into a couple problems. The last step you say to push the framework-res file to "system/app" is that correct cause there is no room in there. I only have like a couple megs in there. I would have thought that it replaces the original file in "system/framework". I copied it there and over wrote the original and set permissions . The phone restarted by it self when I did that and got stuck on the boot animation. I force restarted the phone again and it still gets stuck on the boot animation. I restored my nandroid. I followed your instructions to a T. With the exception of where the framework-res file should go:crying: My carrier label has the same amount of characters as "Team Rejectz".

Ok, first yes that should go to framework, system/app must have been a typo. Second, the getting stuck on boot could be a number of things, you'll have to get a logcat to find the specific cause. When this happened to me it was an improper edit that caused the xml to fail although it recompiled fine. Hope that helps.
