[GAME]Do not get angry, buddy - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hi people.
There is a snowy weather outside, cold,so ideal conditions for starting of something new.
So I decided to develop my collective favourite game named "Do not get angry, buddy",but in nice, modern design with finger-friendly interface. This pictures shows, how actually should appear main interface and some components.
What do you think about?
Please let me know...
And...it will be free of charge.
And...don't throw your PDA against the wall while playing
Rules:
After start the game, you and opponent(s) will have all pieces in the jail. You have 3 attempts to get a "6" to leave the jail, but 3 attempts you have only,if you have all pieces in jail. After you hit "6",you are allowed to turn once again, but maximum 10 turns in one shift. A "6" from a jail will lead selected piece to free start field. After that, your piece is moved a distance related the number in order(turn). If there is already your piece at the destination, you cannot make a move and you should choose another piece. If you haven't any chance to move with all pieces,so pity, continues the opponent in the order. If there is opponent's piece at your destination, you send him back to jail and your piece stands on his previous field. You cannot step into opponent's start field. Your goal is to send all your pieces to home,in the middle of the playfield, but you must move your pieces through whole track clockwise to the home. Once your piece is standing at home,it is in a safe, opponents can't send it to jail anymore, because they can not step into your home. All turns with more "6" presents standalone turn, during which you could move different pieces and the destination is everytime current(not calculated each together). Turns available are displayed at the bottom of the screen and you cannot change the order of them, they goes from the left side and the "X" sign is displayed over used turns. The winner is,who leads all own pieces at home first.
Controls:
After starting up program, the menu is displayed and you should choose your groups to play. After starting the game with PLAY! button, all pieces for selected groups are in the jail and there is displayed big coloured button, which signalizes, which player should make a turn. Also the rounded LED in the middle signalizes this status all the time. Turning the wheel is by simple touch of the wheel(yes,I tried to scroll it physicaly with sliding finger, but it didn't work well).
After you turn the wheel, you get the number, which is then displayed within Available turns area. Immediately software is calculating, which pieces you can move with current number and if any,it displays the numbered smilies. There is also STOP flag displayed over the smiley, which you cannot move. Each smiley represents numbered piece. They are independent,so it doesn't matter, whether you begin with 4 or 1. Just the last thing, you can enter the menu by touching the LED in the middle of the playfield.
The "Debug mode" is actualy not for playing, because instead of the scrolling wheel with random numbers, you have to choose your favorite number,so it is not so funny. You can change this flag also during the game,by enter into the menu, modify it and by pressing the CANCEL button(it stores this value even tough you want to cancel the menu).
ModList:
v1.0
-initial version
v1.1
- added "Debug mode"
- added some animations
- bug fixes
v1.2
- modified dialog window
- all screen resolutions support,but 240x240
- bug fixes
v1.3
- added piece animations
- added explosion animation while send opponent to jail
- removed dialog window
- added full graphic menu
- bug fixes
v1.4
- added "About box" in Menu window
- expanded explosion from 32 to 72 pixels(limit of the playfield physical dimensions, able to increase it even more, but wit graphical bug at the bottom the playfield, that's out of 480pix.boundary at this moment)
- solved multitasking, while return to app.
- bug fixes(that's neverending story...)
v1.5
- added colored wheel arrows, depending on the player, that is on the turn
- solved explosion graphics described above, now is the explosion really big
- added sound effects
- added more game options:
-- automatic screen rotation by player
-- enable/disable animations(speed up the game)
-- enable/disable sounds
-- enable/disable explosion
-- enable/disable player confirmation request
-- game overs with all at home or last on the road
- autosave game on exit
- autoload saved game by hitting Cancel at startup(useful if you want to replace battery during game)
v1.6 (in development)
- support for non-touchscreen devices,whose I really like
- detection for landscape displays and automatic screen rotation,so one can play it on the devices with landscape oriented screens(system screen will turn)
v1.7 (in developer's mind)
- changing system screen rotation behavior, playfield will keep same orientation
(This will be a really big deal(for square displays with possibility to make the orientation to 90/270dgs,all bitmaps should be doubled or I should find a way,how to rotate original),lot of coding, positioning etc. What do you think? It is necessary?)
Well,I will upload newer versions here.
Enjoy.

Cool looking game
I'd play it. Looks neat.

Nice. What is the goal of the game?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mensch_ärgere_dich_nicht

We loved this game as a kid. I stopped playing it in the new techy world...would be awesome to have a game like this, and get some of those old memories back! Hope to see a working version soon...

I started it today from a scratch. Still working on design and thinking on layout.
However,something updated...
It will also not have original cube, but cylinder-like wheel of fortune
Main idea is to move the pieces, which are numbered(original aren't),because of small dimensions of them using 4 numbered big smilies. So they supplies in principle buttons which let you choose the current piece on the road for movement.
If some piece(s) are unable to move, the STOP sign will be displayed over current smiley.
Well I am fair(hope),so I will not implement any cheats to bring a "6" for my turn.
I just hope to bring it before christmas,to achieve well stay at cottage with friends and some glasses of drinks.

great idea! I am looking forwart to try this game!

Hi guys,development in progress...

That looks good...

Hi TomasNM
Is it for all resolutions?
Thanks for sharing

First of all,it will run on VGA portrait devices(I own TouchPro). After working version,I will focus on WVGA and later maybe also QVGA and WQVGA. That "working version" I mean fully usable game, yet without animations etc.

Ok, I'll wait

thanks for sharing

Thanks a lot!, looking forward to the final release

So here we go.
Working on that.
I have temporarily disabled the scrollwheel, because of some bugs, however you could now try the controls...

Progress...
Nearly playable, just few more conditions to resolve.

is this like Ludo?
oh God, I miss my childhood games!

Yes,it is like Ludo.
Don't worry,I will finish playable version soon...
However,I am looking for some beta testers.

So guys, here is hopefuly first playable version...

Zoom Bar Hacks Wanted

I'm assuming that the zoom bar is just an extension of the resistive touch screen beyond the visible screen, so what are the chances someone will make a program/hack that will let you use it for other functions, like a dpad and a mouse?
TD2 users already have it sort of working as a scroll wheel.
I've been watching the M900 on Pocketnow, and while I'm not swayed, the potential of the navigation functions of the biosensor do wow me. It'd be a welcome addition I think. I'm new to xda-dev, but whenever I've come across the name/link, it's always with effusive praise and admiration. I figure if anyone will, it will be someone here.
Bump for this one!!
As soon as I saw the zoom bar on the TD2 and TP2 and the limited functionality of usage only in messaging, web browsers and pictures, it just screamed hack hack hack
I was also thinking gestures like the Palm Pre...
ooooh... I'm intrigued! I'd like to see what some developers can put together for this. That would be a sweet feature to hack.

Agreed. The zoom bar seemed like a good idea when I first read about it, given the multitouch zooming was a no go with the resistive screen. But then in the reviews, it just seemed so under-utilized.
I'd love to have a configuration utility that let you use it in different ways in different applications, kind of like some screen rotating apps let you set up rotation differently for different apps.
Or like the Jog Dial on the hermes. (only wished the TP2 had that, and it would have been perfect. One handed control of the device...). But it will have to be pretty precise, and it isn't yet.
If it can register touch pressure (tapping) I would like 2 see 4 sectors (up down left right)

D2 Zoombar as buttons request asks for 3 buttons. Hopefully someone will do more.
Would LOVE to see 3 or 4 buttons on the zoom bar!!
(And maybe sliding button 1 to the right or button 4 to the left still means scrolling)

The main screen can tell the difference between a press and a flick, so I imagine the zoom bar could have assigned buttons and still scroll.
Hi All
For my TP2, i'd really like to have Zoom Bar that zooms ....everything!!
I would like to just zoom the screen (any screen) to a larger size. I did kinda think (or at least hope) that it was what it was going to do anyway, not just zooming pictures, browser etc.
I would like the simple (??) funtion of being able to zoom any app, any screen, anything - to be able to read stuff maybe a little more easier.
I do use glasses for reading only and it is a real drag to have to get them out to read a text clearly, or see whose calling or just to get a better look in daylight etc.
A zoom 'anything' or 'any screen' would be really awesome and a supremely useful utilisation of something that is already there. Then you couild just drag the screen around to get to what you want to see better (yes, just like a picture, so basically i guess, the current screen becomes like a picture).
The other ideas of buttons, d pads and so on all sound great too, but this would probably benefit so many people get better use out of their devices.
I wonder if it can be done...????
Cheers and happy TP2ing.

Probably better than just magnifying the screen, for readability in text heavy apps at least, would be setting font sizes to the zoom bar--zoom up, Font Sizes get larger, zoom down, they get smaller. I think that might actually be enabled in some text apps already, but I'm not sure. The touchpad on my Acer Aspire One does this in some word processors.
For things like Caller ID, a screen magnifier would be needed. I'm guessing you'd need a resident program to be able to do this anywhere and everywhere.
Thx fortunz
All true, but wouldn't the simple 'magnify the whole screen' thing be a really (really) good thing to have - and logical too. Just an extension of the way it works for images. Just seems like something that it should do.
I did notice on the HTC Manila 2.5 demo video from Germany, in the Settings area, under 'Other', there was a setting for 'HTC Magnify'.
Uncertain of any further details, but it could be just what i am talking about, maybe!
Cheers to all

I don't disagree at all.
zoom as scroll and on manila start screen not only inside
I just wish the zoom ball zommed in on pictures (going towards center of picture) rather than how it works in opera (the upper left corner)
Bump...
Anybody anything?
i would be interested to know if this is possible too.
I would luv the zoom bar to wash my car and mow the lawns for me... any chance?
....LOL....
Yeah, the zoom bar is really under-utilized. I often forget it's there and go to screen -> larger text to increase my fonts... Guess it's because it only works in a few apps. Without realizing, I've gone to settings -> screens before I realize I have a zoom bar...
Would love to see some gurus here hack this to a mini d-pad, or at least and up/down arrow. Currently, I have the vol up/down to do this using AEB.
i agree with all of these .. we need a genius programmer to make some kind of super aeb where you could have different button profiles and set a shortcut to profiles on the homescreen .. my perfect setup would be to have zoom be able to switch open applications and somehow map the back conference mute thing to play/pause in music player .. or have zoom button be able to switch songs for you (like with screen off/lock on) and hold for running applications list ... then have it all skinned pretty like some translucent palm pre thing .... lol .. just dreaming..
games
they can also utilize in racing games like as steering wheel instead of touching the screen

Updated [Jan-10]: [App] [G-Sensor] [Brand New] The XSense v1.2 Final

Credits:
Foremost, let us all acknowledge Koushik for his brilliant "Sensors" library upon which most if not all non-HTC apps that use the G-Sensor, Light-Sensor, and Navi-Sensor are built, simply ingenious. Moreover, I would like to recognize No2chem for the NeuLed2 library which is an equally exquisite peace of code that allows access to the Diamond/Pro Leds. Without those two guys, accessing these advance interfaces on the diamond/pro would be inapproachable at best.
Reason: HTC gave these phones lots of sensors, lets give them.."Sense".
......... EXTRA-Sense ...........
* Hopefully an innovaton, though mostly an integration of RANDOM but needful features...
Features:
1. Courtesy Profiles:
- Set Volume Profiles to activate on Face-Down & Face-UP events. Choose from: None, Silent, Normal, and Vibrate. You can also choose to suspend the Phone when its facing down.
2. Notifications-Sense:
- IF there is/are any outstanding notification(s), the device will vibrate whenever you move it - at customizable intervals: Missed Call(s), Voice Mail, and SMS.
3. Stylus-Sense:- When the Stylus is in/out: Will play sound + Blink the Back button's light.
- When the Stylus is out and the device is moved: Device will vibrate faintly + blink the Back button's light to REMIND you that the Stylus has not been placed back in. This goes on UNTIL the Stylus is placed where it should be.
* Uses "in.wav" & "out.wav" files in the \XSense\ Dir; you can use whatever wave files for this. OR, use the UI to select whichever wave files you want!
4. General Settings:
- Polling Interval: From 200 to 3000 Miliseconds. This determines the rate at which the G-Sensor is polled. Lower values give higher response times and fluid operation at the cost of battery life & CPU utilization.
- Flash Navi Lights: Will blink button lights to notify you of Profile changes and Stylus In/Out.
- Vibrate on Events: Will induce very subtle vibrations to notify you of Notifications and Profile changes.
- Suspend when UP-Side-Down: ???
- Light Navi Button When Suspended: Will do just that when the Light Sensor senses Dim or Dark conditions. This is an independent setting that turns ON the Navi button's light at suspend time, and OFF at Resume time (this is Event Driven, so no polling is involved). This feature really helps if, like me, you want to see where the damn thing is in the dark - before you launch it against the floor.
5. Installs to "\Program Files\XSense", and Creates 2 shortcuts:
"Start Menu\Programs\XSense" and "Startup\XSenseSvc".
Program Settings are saved to the Registry at "HKCU\Software\XSense\".
Use of System Resources:
1. Diskspace: 162 KB RAM footprint: 374-535 KB Battery: NOT observed.
2. CPU Usage: %0.29 Average. Spikes for 2 seconds to %2.7 - %8.5.
3. Battery Impact: Neligeable if at all!
* Indicated CPU usage occurs ONLY when there is an EVENT (posture changed, stylus in/out Sounds playing,
etc)
- Vibration: The way I like it is in waves of 200 miliseconds length! I generally hate vibrations, so if you want it at 201 ms. you're welcome to make your own program and exercise your personal taste.
- This prgram Registers Event Handlers for: "G-Sensor", "Incoming Call", "Phone Call in Progress", "Stylus in/out", and Power Manager events. DO NOT move it to Internal Storage, you have been warned.
Requirements:
.NET 3.5 + HTC device with GSensor & Light Sensor.
Compatibility:
Specifically designed for Diamond & Raphael, but will work fine on HD/Rhodium/Topaz/HD2 etc...
Bugs/Limitations:
Knock yourself out...
Release Notes:
- This is the LAST revision/release/app I make; programming too much work
- Download & Install the CAB
- Run the XSense from your Start Menu\Programs, customize to taste, and enjoy!
Change Log:
- Brand New UI: VERY "finger friendly" this should be especially useful if you have a WVGA Device
i.e. HD/Rhodium/Topaz/HD2 etc...
- Revised entire code for existing & potential bugs, and Performance
tweaked to death.
- Removed various functions (auto speakerphone, car-kit options, etc...). Use "Touch InCall Screen Tweak" for these,
its handles Phone/Speaker brilliantly!
- Shortcut added to Startup for automatic launch after reboot.
- Shortcut with a nice icon added to Start Menu (Credit to VetVito).
- General Tab:
- Navi Button will only light up if the device is in a dark place, i.e. You will
always see where your phone is (before you trash it against the wall).
- Stylus Tab:
- UI elements to select & set sounds for Stylus-in/out events.

Hey, sorry I just saw your post; This doesn't sound like a problem with the program.
Try Calibrating your G-Sensor, if that doesn't solve it, turn your phone off and remove the battery for 5 seconds then turn it on again... that should fix it
This is a perfect app it works perfectly for me on EnergyROM.
Many thanksss

WP7 Fast App Switching [Concept]

Hey everybody.
I was browsing the usual sites and on PocketNow they had a quick article and their take on the rumored Fast App Switching that might be included in the big January update.
*pocketnow.com/windows-phone/windows-phone-7-how-fast-app-switching-could-work
Personally, I found their take to be sort of ugly, but I was intrigued by the idea. So I had some free time on my hands and I decided to make a quick-n-dirty photoshop concept that I think may be plausible. Considering the Metro UI heritage from the Zune HD, I remembered the pin list that you could easily swipe to on the left side. Now I don't quite think that would work very well on WP7, but I utilized the same idea for my concept.
Picture 1 is a normal Start screen.
Picture 2 is an example of a switcher that pops-up and fades the main screen out (like on iOS).
Picture 3 is an example of an always-present switcher on the start screen.
Picture 4 is the same as 3, but the switcher icons are faded out (to make the screen look less cluttered).
1 - *i56.tinypic.com/2yovkac.jpg
2 - *i54.tinypic.com/fz5gup.jpg
3 - *i55.tinypic.com/dqn4pi.jpg
4 - *i51.tinypic.com/2wfltoo.jpg
I don't have that much time today to expand the concept further, like behavior in apps, gestures, etc. But I thought this would be a cool thread to share ideas and concepts. Tell me what you think, good or bad.
EDIT: I forgot to mention closing apps. I don't have anything made yet, but it would either be a drag-off-the-screen gesture (like WebOS) or a hold-and-close action (similar to editing tiles).
