HTC desire boot looping (stuck in CWM) - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all...I've done alot of searching and I am stuck...
Here is a little information.
I rooted my phone with Unrevoked so I have the clockworkmod recovery flashed.
I booted into recovery and made a backup of my ROM right after I was done rooting.
I then installed CM 6.0.2 stable using ROM manager. This was successful. I used this for a few days and then decided to upgrade to CM 6.1 RC2.
I downloaded the ROM via ROM manager and I selected to wipe data/cache from the ROM manager prompt.
Phone rebooted and flash appeared to be successful. Now I'm stuck at the CM booting screen looping.
I restarted and went into recovery to try to restore my original back up (update.zip on my SD card)
I then get the following error in CMW:
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7
E:Error in CACHE:recovery/log
(No space left on device)
I then booted again and did a clear user data. I went into recovery mode and the error is gone but now Clockworkmod does not seem to be doing anything. All the menu options just take me to a blank screen and pressing the power button just takes me back to the menu.

Stuck at white screen but I can get into fastboot and ClockWorkMod recovery.

I've rooted my weeks old HTC Desire with the latest Unrevoked and I partitioned my SD card for use with A2SD; everything went fine. In ClockWorkMod recovery I installed A2SD from SDcard and that went fine too (had to toggle signature verification though). But the subsequent reboot got me stuck at the white screen with green HTC letters.
I used fastboot from the SDK to see if I was bricked because of the A2SD and it told me I wasn't. I can get into Fastboot, HBoot and the ClockWorkMod recovery (v2.5.0.7). What can I do now to get past the white screen?
You can try re-flashing a ROM that has A2SD by default(So that in future you won't risk it again). Do a complete wipe(data/factory reset, cache), format every partition in ClockworkMod Recovery and mount it into USB. Copy the ROM's file and then flash it. Do a reboot and you should be good to go again.
Thanks, flashing a ROM with A2SD did the trick. I'm trying out the MIUI ROM which looks nice.

boot loop after CM6.1 install - can access recovery

Hi peps!
My Desire is stuck within a boot loop (CM6.1 RC1 logo shows up again and again!)
This morning I flashed CM6.1 RC1 with rom manager! I noticed that i flahes it without GApps so I flashed again and now I got this anoying boot loop!
I think that its because of my old radio but strange thing is that it worked before and without the GApps!
in the bootloader screen it says
Radio:4.05.00.11
and when I enter recovery it starts "Android system recovery (2e)" and I cant install a new radio because it says the file isnt certificated!
Whats the best and simplest way to get clockwork mod (I KNOW that I had installed it once on my phone but now it doesnt seem so -.-) or a newer radio onto my phone?
Are there other older roms which will boot/flash with my recovery?
plz help
okay I solved it! The tricky part was, that I had no nandroid backup (anymore) and surprisingly no longer access to clockwork.
I downloaded fake-flash from modaco.com. This packs clockwork into a signed update.zip which can be launched from within the normal racovery.
You can grab it here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...unching-recovery-on-your-device-without-a-pc/
no I reflashed my radio, CM6.1 RC1 and then the gapps!
everything works now
Bootloop
Hey man,
Im getting similar problems when i wiped and installed CM 6.1.
The cm mod logo just reappears, and nothing further happens.
When i press power and volume down, and choose recovery, i just get this exclamation mark with a triangle around the mark over a desire.
Anyone got a suggestion to what i can do? the led seems to work fine.
Any help would be appriciated.
cheers
same
I HAD to put my sdcard in card reader delete any update.zip that might be on the root of card .Then downloaded opendesire rom from PC.Renamed it to update.zip and put on root sdcard and inserted back in phone.turn phone on while holding back button choose recovery wait for reboot. Then when red triangle appears hold vol up and press power button then release both wait till you see option to apply udate.zip from sdcard use volume buttons to select option then press power wait for new rom to install. That wipe before install was not a good idea think I will use this method to install all roms from now on.
help i downloaded the fake flash and renamed it as update and when i apply in the android system recovery it verifies and loads the bar halfway and stops
it says E:failed to verify whole-file signature E:signature verification failed installation aborted
why doesn't the fake flash by koush work

Hello Desirers,
i have had the HTC Desire for a whole year now, i did root it long time ago via Unrevoked 3, and installed the Amon-RA recovery.. and installed LeeDroid 2.2 by then, then made a full wipe some monthes ago and installed LeeDroid 2.3d.. and all went well.. i never had any problem with flashing a zip from the recovery or roms.
yesterday i downloaded the new LeeDroid2.41 rom, to install it.
When i went to Rom Manager to make a backup (my 1st time to use it to backup, thought to use it instead of the usual nandroid backup + from the AmonRA recovery menu... it went okay during the backup (with the different backups...etc) till the restart at the end and it gave me the white flash "HTC" screen and kept on restarting... and that's it.. nothing else happens.. i hadn't install anything new .. i was just backing up stuff.
Note that the HBOOT menu appears normally.. i can go to recovery.. to anything okay.. but can't boot the normal system that was just working and stable.
anyways so i thought to go to recovery and flash the new LeeDroid for that may fix whatever is wrong... but when i go to AmonRA menu and select to flash a zip it tells me :
E:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
no such file or directory
E: can't mount /sdcard
Click to collapse
though the sdcard is working on windows, i tried to restart, to remove the sdcard and insert it again, another sdcard (all gave the same result)... when i choose "Mounts" menu from the AmonRA menu and choose to "mound sdcard" it gives me the same error message.
now the brick is that i can't do anything.. can't change the recovery, can't install a new room or whatever, can't restore it to factory settings <install the original rom> ... because all needs sdcard. and i can't reach my original leedroid rom that was working because the phone keeps on restarting after the white screen.
what's wrong with the sdcard matter anyways ?
=-=
i really hope this shout reaches anyone who can help me, i am phoneless since yesterday Sad

Two issues: "Infinite Boot screen" and "Can't Mount /sdcard/" in Recovery Mode

Two issues: "Infinite Boot screen" and "Can't Mount /sdcard/" in Recovery Mode
Hi Guys I need some help,
So I rooted my tablet and installed CWM following this (I did not install CM), went ahead and rebooted the system, but it never actually boots, only displays the boot logo screen and never moves from there.
So I downloaded this rom and bootloader and pushed it to the tablet via ADB, then I go to Recovery Mode and try to flash it following the CWM menus, install zip -> choose zip from sdcard, then it tells me "E: Can't mount /sdcard/"
What should I do now? how can I fix the infinite boot screen and/or sdcard issue?
Thanks
Got everything back to normal.
Followed this to flash stock system/boot/recovery. Then flasehd TWRP and SuperSU to root the device

Boot loop after 4.4.2 update and Clockworkmod install

Stuck in a bootloop. Here's my story.
Updated to 4.4.2 earlier today.
Tried to root my Nexus 7 later after the update. Here's what I did:
rebooted into bootloader with adb (adb reboot-bootloader)
unlocked the bootloader with fastboot (fastboot oem unlock)
flashed clockworkmod using fastboot (this is the file i downloaded and flashed: -http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-flo.img)
rebooted into recovery
selected "install zip>choose zip from sdcard" (trying to install supersu.zip file that I had loaded onto the internal memory)
Here's where I ran into trouble. After selecting "choose zip" nothing happens, and a message shows up on botton of the screen that says "E: Can't mount /sdcard"
So I can't install anything from clockworkmod.
I rebooted into bootloader, tried to re-flash using fastboot - "device not found"
I tried to reboot the device into android - bootloop animation
I tried wiping data, cache, factory reset, dalvik chache, etc from recovery - still getting bootloop animation
Any ideas?
Ok, I wiped/deleted sdcard data from clockworkmod and I managed to get it to boot.
That's deadly but I still don't have root, which was the point of this in the first place. Anyone know where I went wrong?
Strange. I did pretty much the exact same procedure and it worked for me.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
So, I flashed TWRP.
Tried installing SuperSu from there. This worked slightly better than Clockworkmod Recovery, it at least could read the internal storage, and allowed me to select the supersu.zip file. But I get the following error when I try to install it:
E: Unable to open zip file
Error flashing zip 'sdcard/Download/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.80.zip
Not sure what's happening here.... May have to do with the 4.4.2 update? Maybe I'll try flashing the 4.4.2 factory image and then retrying the above steps.
I also did pretty much the same. I had a new Nexus 7 2013. The very first thing I did was to update to 4.4.2 through OTA before I went to rooting procedures:
Unlock bootloader (data was wiped because of it)
Flash TWRP
Flash superuser.zip file through TWRP
Everything worked fine.
