Help! I have been having major issues upgrading my Evo's SD card... I am going from stock 8GB to a 16GB and I thought the process was as simple as draggin everything over between them... but it isn't. The root of my problems is that I don't see my music (playlists) migrate properly. I have doubletwist and PowerAMP and neither of them are retaining playlists. I searched around and couldn't really find anyone with this problem... so here I am.

Well, think back, try to start from scratch like you did on your first 8 gb card...Maybe you need to do the files in the computer, not the phone itself.
well... uninstalling the music players and erasing their cache and deleting all the music and resyncing them after reinstalling didn't work.

i know this is probably a simple problem with an even simpler solution, but why is the EVO not recognizing my card? it's got some of my contacts, but none of my other data is there. does the Droid (the phone i came from) use a different directory or something?

Contacts aren't usually stored on the SD card unless you're using an unusual app. I (and I believe the majority of Android users) store our contacts in the cloud (Gmail, facebook, etc).
Could you be a little more specific on what data you're missing?
i'm missing literally everything on my SD card. music, apps, data, etc.

Can you read the card in a card reader? If so, you could copy the data to your PC, format the card, install it in the phone and then move the data over via USB.
seemed like a good idea, but didn't work.
is everyone sticking with the included 8 gig, or is no one else having problems switching?
No trouble here with my 16GB card. Maybe it doesn't like how your card is formatted? Try copying everything to your PC, reformatting the card, then copying everything back.
**hah.. just saw the post above suggesting the same thing. I didn't see any mention of what format you used, though.. mine is FAT32.

I'm using my 16GB card from my hero...no problems reading it here. I assume you've also tried reseating it (And double checking you are seating it right by making sure you can read the included 8GB after seating it again too)?
I used the 16 gig I had in my Moment and the Evo evowned it. Maybe the card went to pisser early and right on time but now it is broken.
Had to order a new one.
I would say format first.
i did format it; no fix still.
this sucks, man!
Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has troubles with there mp3s not playing. For a couple of days my music player would play music then all of a sudden it would say file not supported or something along the lines of that. Where it would no longer play my music. At first thought it was the player so I downloaded another player and it said file didn't exist. The files are obviously there as I just played it a day ago.
After rebooting my phone it would play again. Then same thing would happen a couple of days later. So then I tried unmounting my sd card and remounting. That works as well for a day. The same thing it wouldn't read or play the mp3s. Is it my sd card (stock sd btw) or just a buggy phone? Thanks in advance? I'm rooted using syndicate rom, was happening b4 I rooted as well. Thought it would help it doesn't.
I have this same issue
I can still access the SD Card... add / remove files via ASTRO or Drop Box...
Just any attempts to play media fail (even ringtones / notification sounds)
At one point someone said to clean the SD Card contacts... I tried that, no improvements.
Nothing short of an unmount-remount fixes it. Whether mounting the card to a computer or just a reboot (quick or hard works)
No one's been able to figure it out so far :/
ACS 1.1.1
Been doing it since 1.0.2
Ah. See I thought it was my phone but damn glad its a known issue. I was thinking maybe a better sd card instead of a class 2. But may need to do some digging, what r ur thoughts about having just the music files on root of sd card. Instead of folders so that the phone doesn't have to dig so far?
Unfreeze or restore the drm content thingy. This solved it for me a couple months ago
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Its an issue with mp3s. How would I unfreeze the drm?
Delete the drm app from system/app.
Well I will update you in a day with no rebooting or unmount/remount. If this works I will give you my first child...
I deleted the drm app a while ago when k0nane suggested it... It didn't change anything for me.
It has been working for me. Nothing has gone wrong since the deletion of the drm. Also I might add that I deleted twitter as well. I saw a huge number of posts that suggested doing it. So I did that too. And no hiccups. I got a different client for that.
I do have Twitter installed... I will axe that and see what happens.
I can confirm... After uninstalling Twitter I haven't had to reboot to fix a music file issue...
Thanks for that info kwilbur3... Hopefully anyone else who runs into this will find this post
I owned a Galaxy S on AT&T for two years, and now have the E4Gt on Sprint. Through both devices, I've used a 16GB external SD card for holding music. From android v2.1-4.0, I've had issues on EVERY music player I've tried (See: Stock, Google Music, Ubermusic, Winamp, Apollo, and more) with playlists randomly clearing out. I listen to music all day at work, and my second job is playing music at clubs as a DJ. This bug is really killing me. I'll plan out a setlist, and get home to see it emptied out.
From searching XDA, it seems to be a common issue. Playlists are stored in a database and not on a physical file and are somehow easily cleared out. I'm basicly looking for a solution here. Any search I've done comes up with no answers, or workarounds such as using back-up apps or cloud storage.
Does anybody know of a solution to playlists being deleted/emptied??
I think your SD card might be bad
My playlist have never been cleared out

How could it be bad? I've attempted storing music on the external. I've tried swapping it after a flash so that music is on the internal instead. The issue comes up after a reboot typically after any files are changed or moved on the phone. I'm guessing it may have to do with the media scan.

I FOUND A SOLUTION
i have the exact same problem with my samsung galaxy 3s, with the software 4.1.2. the playlists content disapears all the time.
what helped on my phone was to make a backup on your pc, from the phones and SD-cards memory, then format your phone (both phone card) PROBLEM FIXED. I know it takes some time to restore everything, i recommend that you install "backup and restore" and "playlist backup" on your phone and make a backup on your apps and playlist. good luck
PS. install only the apps that you need (it could be an app that did made the bug)
PPS. if you can use another music player than the default one, that could also prevent the bug, i am using "Now Playing"
hi all, i have run into a bit of an issue. i can not seem to play videos from the SD card!! if i copy it to the internal storage...plays fine. copy it to the sd card and i get "cannot play video" error. anyone else run into this and is there a way around it??
thanks!
Can't help you, but I have successfully played videos from the SD Card, I'm not sure what app you're using to do it, but I use MX Player (I actually ended up buying the Pro version as I like it so much).
Without much detail of the error you may be getting, I'm hesitant to offer any suggestions. But, have you tried a different SD card yet?
i bought a 128gb micro sd card for my htc one m9. i moved all of my music onto the sd card but cannot play it on my phone. is there any way to fix this? ive tried to play it in the music app and the google music app but it doesnt show me any way to play the songs.
Are they recognized in file explorer? Any files on SD visible?

yes. when i looked on file manager it showed every song, and it would let me play them individually on either of the 2 music apps but will not let me get them on the apps themselves. i would not let me skip to the next song. i would have to look through all of the songs to find a specific one. it would take far too long.

Strange, may have something to do with the size of the card although I have heard it can accept a 128GB card. Is app on internal storage or SD? If on internal storage, shouldn't be an issue. Also, is music stored in music folder?
Try going to settings/apps/all/music and clear cache and data and then reopen music app to see if it finds your files.
I put all of the songs in the folder called google.music or something like that first and it didn't work, so I made a folder called music and that didnt work. So I tried formatting the sd card and moved the songs again and it didn't work. Just cleared cache and data and it didn't work. Also, when I look at the storage in settings it says there is music on the sd card.
Wow, looks like you've attempted all remedies. Do you have another SD card to try to rule out issues with the 128GB card?
Just buy a real micro sd card instead of the fake one.. the fake one won't work..
P.S. Your question does not relate to HTC M9.

what are you talking about? i did research to make sure that the micro sd card i bought was compatible with my htc one m9. not fake. and it clearly relates to a HTC ONE M9 as that is the phone i am having the problem with. ****ing idiot.

Same issue here, but I'm just moving my music on to the phone itself now and that works just fine. I moved my pictures to the SD card and the gallery app has no problem finding the pictures. It's just the music app that's having difficulty.
Strange that this is occurring. I have 800+ songs on my SD card (64 gigabyte) and the music app finds and plays them without issues
Genuine SanDisk...
Not a remedy for standard player but I can confirm Poweramp works perfectly from music on the card.
Yes, if you don't really need the greatest musics on the go - you can go with PowerAMP.. again if you only need the best from the life, and this is why you have habitually opted for the next HTC, then you won't depart your further amazing without NEUTRON..

also I have the same problem.
I had the songs to work well and suddenly I ran out of songs according to play music.
with another application "ES EXplorer" he can identify the songs and play smoothly.
Still, I prefer the Play Music but this does not identify any music on cellphone

which file system is on your sd card? is it formatted as fat32? it normally should work fine. try formatting it with some professional tools, not windows and try again..also don't format in phone, sometimes it breaks the compatibility...if you already tried on windows but not on phone try it with formatting on phone...otherwise do the step i told you on windows with a formatting tool for sd cards and format to either fat or fat32
Make sure SD is FAT32, try a player that lets you select a music directory such as PlayerPro or PowerAMP. Using a Sandisk 64GB SD as portable storage in CM13, and both these players (in fact many others as well) can see all the files without a problem.
try different music players, or make sure the file formats are supported, or the sd card could be incorrectly formatted?
