[Q] Auto-Brightness - Any Fix? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have another thread on this but wanted to separate them. So for those of you with a Desire Z, does the Auto-Brightness feature ever go below 50% for you? From testing I have found that from the screen off it will start at 50% and pretty much stay there unless you take a flashlight and shine it directly at the sensor. It will then switch to 100% and stay there for atleast a few minutes. It will witch back to 50% if you turn off the screen.
Even in a pitch black room it will not dim below 50%.
Has anyone found an auto brightness that actually works the way it should such as on an Iphone?

I use tasker for that, it can use light level percentage to run a task to set brightness.

Try a custom ROM and see how it works in there ? e.g. maybe try Cyanogen (or at least search the thread on the G2 side), if there's a problem still with the light sensor then they can probably fix it a lot more quickly than HTC will.

CyanogenMod is the only ROM I've tried where this was 'fixed' (and even then, the backlight always stays pretty high and doesn't auto-adjust very often)

Mine seems to work fine.

Stock HTC 2.2, 2.6.32.21 Kernel

Mine does not seem to work so I have just gone for a manual adjust widget for now. Will be interested to know if someone finds a fix though.

Can you post your profiles for setting the brightness?
I'm trying to configure tasker for the task, but so far i'm not happy.

I'm using the same Rom and auto brightness isn't working.

Since my old phone G1, I used "Ambient light sensor" to auto adjust the brightness, which cost me $1.99. It use the camera in the back to identify the surrounding, not the sensor in the front, whenever the screen is waken. But it's not satisfying at all.

Basically i add 4 profiles that bases upon Light Level being between given values, say 0-20,21-60,61-80,81-100 and each profile sets the screen brightness to an explicit value, say like 0-20 -> 10, 21-60 -> 40 etc...
But now I don't use it anymore, as Tasker is somehow triggering a foreground event and it steals the focus for a quarter of a second...while typing it's annoying.. :|

i fail to see how this is development, please have the thread moved to the Q&A section. furthermore, an update-script is not something you can boot on a phone, does a rom belong to that? and the logcat will probably tell you the reason, you might wanna check that. if it doesn't do not dare to say "no it doesn't", post it here.

Also, are you going to format partitions to rfs, since they are rfs in pure stock?

Make format or remove./system to ext2/rfs.
Cz stock ROM with stock.kernel usually take support only ext2.
So, format it to ext2 I think.
Or only rfs.with "rm -rf" command.
For cleaning/purging system
Maybe tis can help.ya

Can we format the device using CWM? I did not try at anytime. Maybe we have to find what command it is using.

[Q] Problem installing Custom ROM based on CyanogenMod

So I want to install this custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2199167 but when I try to install it I get status 6 install aborted. I have stock Hboot with S-ON, CWM 2.5.0.4(thats the version if I'm right), 1GB SD card. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

bump, just to note, every other rom worked, i would either get status 7 or status 0 which I would fix in most cases. Also when I try to flash newer CWM through adb, it tells me "signature verify fail", sth like that .

I can't install Custom rom Windows Phone Mod. I get status 6 error. Im using TWRP recovery. It doesnt work in CWM either. Phone is rooted and s-off.

Thanks. Also what should I do if my HTC Desire ever hangs at white htc screen? Cleaning Dalvik + cache didnt work out last time. My only option was to flash new ROM

Clearing dalvik + cache doesn't solve anything in virtually ALL situations....don't bother doing it.
Cache is temporary files. Dalvik is coupled with the apps. It simply rebuilds after you clear it.
If you get stuck on splash screen you have different issues. Perhaps your sdcard is not partitioned as per the ROM requirements, or you installed the ROM on the wrong hboot, or you didn't full wipe when changing ROMs. Use bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied at the top of Q&A if this happens in the future

CyanogenMod is the only ROM I've tried where this was 'fixed' (and even then, the backlight always stays pretty high and doesn't auto-adjust very often)

Mine seems to work fine.

Mine does not seem to work so I have just gone for a manual adjust widget for now. Will be interested to know if someone finds a fix though.

I'm using the same Rom and auto brightness isn't working.

Since my old phone G1, I used "Ambient light sensor" to auto adjust the brightness, which cost me $1.99. It use the camera in the back to identify the surrounding, not the sensor in the front, whenever the screen is waken. But it's not satisfying at all.
