[BOOTANIMATION] Need some help! - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running Ruby 1.1.4 I am a big fan off ccroms and I used to use the Sapphire rom. Sapphire had an old bootani before they used the spinning gem. I am trying to make a version of the old bootani for the incredible. I cant get the animation to work properly. Any help?
I have attached what I've done so far. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

try taking the desc.txt from the original and only change the 854 to 800 and try it.

Didn't work

Try extracting an animation that works and then rezipping it without modifying anything. I did this, but it doesn't work. This leads me to believe that something is going on when I set up the zip file. I've used both winrar and 7zip and neither are working.
I'm sure if I play with the settings I'll get it, but I've gotten lazy after so many failed attempts.

The problem is your not zipping it right you must set the zip to store, instead of compress. if you compress it, it changes the language so that it can be shortened. also make sure you know how to read a desc.txt so that you can edit it correctly.

Thanks much! That did the trick.

I still can't get this working. I zipped using "STORE" so there would be no compression.

It sounds like you just didnt zip it up correctly. The Bootanimation file has to be zipped with the "STORE" option.... as in NO compression.
try zipping it with the "store" option and copy/flash it over.
i will try that but i even just copied the images into the stock boot animation and didn't work also tried just couple images over the stock once and the when i ran it the stock once worked just not mine not sure if the images have to be in some kinda formate
Zipped it using STORE and the first folder works now thanks getting close just have to see whats going on in folder 2 thank for your help
i have it working for you. flashable zip.
looks cool even without 3d

Boot Animation.

How do I go about changing my boot animation for rooted OTA update. I've tried changing the boot animation.zip in /data/local.
If anyone could boint me in the right direction would be most appreciated.
have you tried pasting the bootanimation zip inside system/media.
P.s. you will see a folder named audio, DONT touch it
Tried the one in media with no success. :/
Try /data/animations ?

Does anyone even have any idea about how to do this?
What's the exact name of the Rom your using might help find the right spot for it. Who built it (virus,myn,mik,ect....) every bit of info helps.

From his first post it is HTC's 4.22.651.? OTA update and it seems to have been moved entirely as I tried while I was playing around with it to change the boot animation and it would not work for me either
Evo 4g running CM7 nightly 95
i just ripped that rom(supersonic_4.22.651.2_deodexed) apart and i found the bootanimation in system\customize\resource named SPC_bootanimation.zip

Sorry thought you were on 3.7, my bad. I believe he may be correct in the location, but also try
data/syscustomize/resource/

THANKS to Themike_10452 :good:
Download the attachment and move it to SD card.
Use Root explorer and go to " /system/customize/resource"
copy the original "ATT_boot animation" somewhere safe.
delete it and move the boot animation from the SD card to "/system/customize/resource"
you will have to mount it probably
for me i changed the permission so its "rw-r--r--"
if any question msg me =) hope it works
here a link for the boot sound
https://www.dropbox.com/s/iqvmb6dd4olx6f6/ATTSonicLogoNoSnap_Retail.mp3

Pretty long, even i could do that, you just save that video, open up with virtualdub, then under file you export as image sequence inside a folder, and just tuen the framerate to the audio. Problem is the audio is way too long! Pisses me off!

i dont know if it has to be 3sec, i just said that for a safety issue incase it did cause bootloops and since this is 2 boot animations, you can always delete the HTC boot ainmations and leave the ATT just make it longer and maybe the sound will go as long as the ATT boot animation
edit-
also i should be more clear on that lol i just wanted the end part where he gets slapped to the face, and the sound to that is around 3 secs itself so should work out

I wonder if this limitation is hardcoded or if it's just a script limitation. If it's a script limitation it could be overrided to allow longer audio.

Yes, it is a script limitation, so i am currently looking now for a tut to atleast increase it to 10 seconds or so.

The xml may work, its just telling the phone to look for Bootsound.mp3 and Bootanimation.zip
instead of actually looking for the branded name, this will work but would need to be fixed for our phones, you can do this yourself actually
i wouldnt flash that xml as its specific to the mt4g,
you can to your xml
go to settings/customize/resources open the xml
and scroll to boot configuration
there just rename the "ATT.." to bootanimation
and the ATT...mp3 to bootsound.mp3
from there when you make bootanimation or booutsound no need to rename it to "ATT...zip" or "ATT...mp3"
make sure you back it up first and for really cautious nand back up

Yeah, you can do this. I use the Google Edition HTC One boot animation. Just Google it and you can find the file. Simply rename it bootanimation.zip and place it in /system/media. Make sure you replace the bootanimation.zip currently in there to something else such as bootanimation.bak. You might have to change permissions to rw-r-r as well.
my /system/media doesn't have an existing bootanimation.zip. Nevertheless I placed that file in that location, set permissions and the stock Verizon animation still showed. Now I'm stumped. Pulled the file from HERE, trying both a manual addition as well as flashing the flashable zip provided.

Are you running a Sense rom? If so, the boot animations are located in System-Customize-Resource. There are two that you need to replace, one for booting up, vzw_bootup.zip, and one for shutting down, hTC_downamination.zip.

Hmm... I did this and for some reason the boot animation wasn't replaced but the down animation works fine. Side note, does the boot sound in that folder play for anyone else?
HTC One s-off
On the stock HTC ROM, to change the boot animation, you have to change two files in 'system/customize/resource/' : "htc_bootup_one.zip" and "vzw_bootup.zip" (capitalization matters). They both have to be replaced with fully functional boot animations. When I changed mine, it wouldn't work if I just changed one or the other, I had to change both.
On the stock HTC ROM, to change your down animation, you have to replace "hTC_downanimation.zip" (capitalization matters) in '/system/customize/resource/' with a functioning down animation.
On custom ROMS, you have to look to find where it's at. Sometimes it's in 'system/media' named "bootanimation.zip", sometimes it's not. Remember, it has to be a functioning replacement, otherwise it will show the stock ANDROID boot animation.

Actually, you don't have to replace the htc_bootup_one.zip. You can rename it to .bak and replace or do the same to the vzw_bootup.zip and it will work. I actually removed my htc_bootup_one.zip and replaced the vzw one and everything works fine. Probably helps that the boot up animation I use was made for the One variants that don't have anything to do with Verizon

That's very odd. Now that I try it without the "htc_bootup_one.zip", it works, but it didn't when I originally replaced it. Very, very odd.
I grabbed a flashable boot animation (including audio) from the HTC One section and was finally able to get the animation to work after messing with the .xml file. Tried to throw the audio in with it and couldn't get it to work...I'm on Bonestock and noticed there wasn't any audio with the regular boot animation...could it be the Rom? Volume is up btw.
To get a better idea of what I did I'll include the tread. I wasn't able to flash, so I had to manually replace/rename the files in my system/customize/resource folder and then change the name for the boot animation in the .xml file. I tried to follow the steps to get the audio file included as well, but it just reverted to a basic android boot animation when I attempted that.

If there's not a solution, its not a big deal...I'm probably overlooking something. Thanks guys!

If I recall correctly, there is an option in the XML file that tells it not to play audio when it's not the first time you set up the phone, meaning it only plays on initial setup. You need to change that setting to play every time. I don't want audio on my boot animations, so I leave it alone.

Add this code to the XML file.
Code:
audio="/system/customize/resource/MP3_file_name_here.mp3"
This is assuming the sound you want is located in the 'resource' folder. If not, give the correct path and filename. Hope this works for you.

Trying to create a boot animation for CM11

I've been trying to create a boot animation for CM11 using the attached file, but it's not working no matter what I try. Anyone have any ideas?
I've put the file in both data/local and system/media and neither is working.
Running CM 11 M8 on an i747.
Also, I am aware that the image quality is low. I'm just trying things out for now. Thanks!

Try this... at 30fps with only 20 images and 2 cycles it would've lasted a whole 1.33 seconds... I slowed it to 10fps and loop till boot is complete.. Don't forget to set permissions to rw-r--r-- as well
Still no luck. I have my entire system rw in es file Explorer. The zip over wrote the one I had in there. Still didn't work. Just getting the generic android name glimmering thing.

Needs to be rw-r--r-- on the zip itself ... Just rw on the directory won't suffice... I always get that android logo when I forget to fix the permissions and es always changes them when I overwrite

Groovy. Thanks again for all your help!
One last question, if you don't mind. I recreated the whole thing so that it'd be the resolution of the phone. The only thing I changed was the pixel dimensions in your txt file. Now, however, the boot up is just a blank screen. Any chance you may know what's wrong with the attached one? Is 1.83mb to big for a boot animation?
You zipped the whole folder... As in when I open the zip there is a folder called bootanimation... The part0 folder and the desc.txt should be at the root of the zip

Still just a black screen. I give up. It was purely a vanity thing. New band logo and all.
What's weird is when I use the bootbox app to view it, it loads perfectly. Just doesn't load when I boot the phone.
Thanks for all your help.

Nice! It's a bit skewed, but **** it! Hahaha. You kick ass! What did you do to fix it?
Idk.. I re-edited the desc.txt in an app that I know works without jacking up the encoding (droidedit free) and zipped it up with an app that I know works (rar for android)... I had the same issues the other day trying to zip one up with ES file Explorer, rom toolbox, and 7zipper, all with compression set to 'store only' ... Only rar for android would work

Dope. I'll get both those apps.
