Hi all,
Further to the DXJPA, I now present to you SEARCHII, which is based on the latest SEA Firmware DXJPE.
General Overview
Indeed, there are just too many XXJPY customized rom, and the last count there were at least 7 of them. I know that DXJPE is based on android 2.2, which I believe many are already on XXJPY rom. However, this customized rom target audience are for those who wants to stay with the SEA region and looking for a tweaked rom to outperform the stock one.
While this is not the ultimate, nor the finest, nor the best rom out there, it does not lose out to them.
Note that this rom has all the stock apps installed, and yet there are still about 46mb left on the system memory!
The features are as follows:
- AOSP LockScreen - Stock Android lockscreen
- Circular Battery Mod - with gradient filled colours. You will see that the colour bar will change during discharging and also charging.
- Extended Power Menu - Reboot, Recovery and Download mode
- Updated various system apps - Google QuickBox, flash player, Google Map, and a few others
- Deodexed
- TouchWizgtg Launcher - Much better than TouchWiz30Launcher and themed to the Touch of Glass.
- Notification icons has been changed to coloured ones.
- Latest kernel - hardcore's latest k12i kernel HZ256, with option to convert system to ext4
- Superuser, Busybox 1.17.3 and su (in other words, rooting)
- Modded Contacts.apk - All alphabets are not shown. The search bar length has been shortened.
Warning
Although this is a non wipe version, but please do a nandroid backup if any chance that the flash might fail
Installation Instructions:
For stock DXJPE rom (with recovery 3e),
[1] Please deactivate any lagfixes before the installation
[2] Flash any kernel with ULTK (hardcore, raspdeep, etc)
[3] Push the downloaded zip DXJPE_SEARCHII_NoWipe.zip to your internal sdcard
[4] Boot Phone to Recovery Mode (Volume UP + HOME + POWER) OR issue adb command C:/>adb reboot recovery
[5] When CWM lagfix version appears, "choose zip from sdcard"
[6] Go to /sdcard/DXJPE_SEARCHII_NoWipe.zip
[7] When its done, reboot your phone
[8] The first boot will take a long time, so don't worry as it will take time to load in the settings
[9] Enjoy the new rom
For those already with ULFK based kernels, CWM is already included and therefore, start with point [3]
Credits:
Wow, there are sure a lot. But on the top of the list:
hardcore - Tireless in ever improving the kernel
raspdeep - our own O/C king
sztupy - for starting the ULFK and his continuing support to the SGS community
Idan73 - who has so graciously helped me by giving me his modifications for reference. Thank you
supercurio - for his work in voodoo, sound and sharpness fix, and of course the first to get Nexus S ported to the SGS
RyanZA & z4ziggy - for their work in z4mod
designgears - for his work on the battery mod
Daneshm90 - for his apk manager app
xeudoxus - for his xultimate app
ock - for his help and advice on the modded Contacts.apk
gtg465x - for his work in the TouchWiz30Launcher
djcedric - for his A Touch of Glass template. He's from the WinMo HD2 session, a friend of my buddy, bobsbbq.
Vista2k7 - for supporting the 4 lockscreen mod, which without him there WILL not be any 4 lockscreens.
And many many others! Please give me a shout if I have missed you out.
(P/S: the SEARCH acronym can also mean South East Asia - Raspdeep cum Hardcore )

Bloatware locations for Singapore Carriers
For Singtel, Starhub or M1 users who wants their specific carrier's apks, the files are stored under
/system/csc/SIN/system/app/ for Singtel
/system/csc/MM1/system/app/ for M1
/system/csc/STH/system/app/ for Starhub.
Use adb or Root Explorer to pull them out, and install them to your data folder.
Nice, let me know if you want the apk's optimized

Doc, many thanks for your help. Yes, I would like the apks to be optimized, cos I failed miserably at that. hahaha...
But I would like to know how to do it, rather than you do it for me. If you can help in that area, as well as zipaligning, I would be very grateful.
You should not call your rom as the first South East Asia customized rom, it sounds a bit of haughty.
[2] Flash any kernel with ULTK (hardcore, raspdeep, etc)
Which one to use? any link?
Thanks
Coming from doc v9..can one flash directly..or base rom must be dxjpa first?
TQ
nice one. this roms looks good. will try it soon. thanks!
Hi, I have already installed Doc's BUJP8 v9 installed via Clockwork Recovery. (It comes with Hardcore Kernel 9A).
So in order to install I have to undo all tweaks and lagfix first then download the rom and Hardcore Kernel and put then in my internal sd?
After flash kernel first before installing the rom?
Thank you =)
U may flash hardcore's speedmod kernel(I think so...). wait for g00ndu to reply...
please let us know if you already have it optimized and zipaligned.. as for now, will stay with BUJP8 v9 will wait for your updates...
What do you mean by Hummingbird optimised? What does it have that other roms don't? Thanks. Will try it. But, is it zipaligned yet?

Sorry, but base rom is Dxjpa. It's more for those whose rom is Dxjpa, but wanted something a little extra.

Sorry if you find it haughty, but frankly afaik, there wasn't any DXrom that were customized before.

It is always a good practice to undo any lagfixes, and also to do a namdroid backup whenever one need to try a new experimental rom.
If you have another rom, you have to flash the stock Dxjpa. Since stock kernel has the 3e recovery, you get any ULFK kernel to flash in order to get cwm in the recovery mode.
Therefore, what I meant was that you flash one kernel with cwm, and use cwm to flash my zipped rom.

I was looking for a name for my rom, and since our sgs is using the hummingbird, and the DX series is from South East Asia, that's why I used the acronym SEARCH.
As to the zipaligning, it was not done. Therefore, it is not optimized yet.
Edit: Version 1.1 is out, see post 1 for download link and post 2 for changelog. FYI, the apps are zipaligned now.

Installing / First Install of 1.2+ Guide:
1) Flash RecoveryMod.zip (credit to Klothius), you won't be able to install other custom ROMs than mine (unless they use the same MTD config as I do) until you revert the RecoveryMod!
2) Reboot into recovery again, format system, data & cache in the partitions menu
3) Flash the ROM
( 4) If you get a force-close after booting, flash the fix below.)
Updating the ROM guide:
1) Just flash the ROM
( 2) If you get a force-close after booting, flash the fix below.)
Why is the RecoveryMod necessary?
The ROM is using a modified Kernel commandline to change the partitioning, to be exact, it changes the sizes so you get more space on /data.
A custom recovery is needed, because a normal recovery would flash to wrong sectors in the NAND, so the flashed boot.img, which contains initialization scripts, wouldn't be able to recognize and read the system files.
Revert Recovery Guide:
1) Download ROM Manager from the Android Market
2) Flash the recovery via the first option in the app
3) Put another ROM on your SDcard
4) Reboot into recovery MANUALLY
5) Format all partitions except the SDCARD in the partitions menu
6) Flash the other ROM

good choice on kernel, when other devs switch to that kernel (such as robomix) their performance jumps to the top of the list LoL.

Anyways this ROM seems to be pretty nice. Good performance and I really like FrindStream and the legend stuff
maxisma, thank you for including United States English. I'm tired of sense roms giving me a british accent in google nav and british news sources in google news+weather widget.
However, adding a canadian locale would be even better sir!

Yes, I can do that, if you tell me the code for it, US English would equal

JIT
JIT patch not available in the link?
nice rom, running terrific!
only (super low priority) suggestion I have is that maybe you could consider making the lockscreen semi-transparent rather than 100% transparent? it's really confusing to anyone other than me. coworked picked it up and tried tapping things and thought it was broken, I told them to drag it down. voila, but it's a little misleading.
it's really not important though - and definitely a matter of taste.

+1
this seems to be incredibly quick though!!
if this adds Canadian locale this will be my new permanent rom.
us Canadians never get any love
Hi Maxisma,
Just wanted to say that this rom is really great.
Super smooth and friggin' fast ( even without OC )...
Only thing not working for me is the JIT patch but since JIT doesn't work on any 2.1 rom for me that's not an issue
*yeay flippin' flipclock is back
A question about the ROM, when you specify "- Battery percentage indicator" does that mean CyanogenMOD-like indicator or a widget or so?

If you find some bugs, please provide as much details as possible:
ROM version, both before and after your flash.
Factory reset or not, before install or after
Lagfixes installed
Kernel used
Theme version
Advice
- I strongly advice you to disable any lagfixes when upgrade to new roms or install new kernels.
- Always flash rom with FULLY charged battery
- Make backup of efs-folder (with Root Explorer or ADB)
- Do NOT restore system data, if you upgrade from 2.1 (Eclair)
- Do not factory reset phone if you have removed any apps from the base rom.
If you want to factory reset, flash the base rom before again if you made any changes
- If you do a factory reset after install: lancher pro, sgs tools. gallery etc will be deleted.

..:: BIG FAT WARNING/WARRANTY ::..
pele78 said:
once again I state loud and clear, that the beta kitchen is not supported by the RomKitchen Team.
Using the Beta Kitchen is at your own risk and entirely your own responsibility.
Beta Kitchen is public to open new doors for the I9000 community as a whole to further improve and evolve the SGS.
Beta Kitchen is for those who understand what BETA means.
Beta has no language barrier so using this as a excuse is not accepted.
Novice users should are and as always advised not to use the beta kitchen.
If users wish to risk using Beta Kitchen for reasons, such as ignorance, or wanting to be selfishly clever and want to be on the fast of fast and best of best rom or along these lines, its up to you but Odin is not always the answer to recovery, and just bear in mind the terms and conditions of Samsung Repairs when it comes to SU, etc.
Users asked for a long time wanting access to beta and now they got it, but again we will not be supporting beta kitchen - only listen to feedback ONLY. Wanting everything and being selfish dont mix, i guess that comes down to age, maturity and responsibility
Beta has nothing to do with donations or any other ridiculous comments suggested by others however smart they try to be with there wording.
If people do not understand what "Donations" mean then Google is yor friend and wiki has a vast catelog of info on this subject and terminology.
RomKitchen is not in any form of competition with any other dev, rom maker etc. This has never been the case, not now and nor will ever be.
All this nonsense and crap stops now!! THE END!! If people wish to complain and what ever idiotic reason which in the end only shows what kind of person they are when they start back tracking on what they say - Plain and simple, go download another ROM, there are plenty to choose from and various tastes and same applies to themes, apps etc.
If this crap continues, ill start reporting people on the grounds of creating a negative environment with the I9000 community... which still is considered to be one of the worst communities in xda, and i can see why! And help clear it up (one of the reasons the post count was introduced to stop spam rubbish etc)
Do not attempt to cause issues within the IRC Chat either or you will simply be banned and no questions asked. If you start to cause invaild unrest in this thread, then you will be simple noted and ignored and left to your own devices and hope that you end up with a brick and unable to apply for warranty on ur device. SIMPLE.

..:: Instructions ::..
Attention all users! Regarding /system corruption.
What is this about?
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848471
Am I affected?
Yes, you are!
But the new ROM already has a fixed kernel! Can't I just upgrade straight away?
No! You still need to follow these steps! Here's why: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9415545&postcount=9456
I already followed these instructions once. Do I need to follow them again when upgrading to newer ROMs?
No! If you've followed these instructions, you're good to go! Just follow the instructions for the regular upgrade method
How to fix?
01. Download K9 CWM file (from here), put it in your internal sdcard, also put Doc's ROM.
02. Boot into recovery.
03. Flash the K9 kernel, DO NOT REBOOT.
04. Go to Advanced ULK options -> reboot into recovery.
05. Now choose mounts and storage -> Format system
06. Now flash Doc's ROM, and immediately after, flash K9 CWM zip AGAIN! (Without a reboot in between)
07. Select reboot after flashing K9 CWM zip. Now if you had a lagfix applied before, you will get a prompt about change in config. Just select "remove new config" here.
08. DO NOT FLASH any bugged kernel after this, or you will have to repeat this process.
Attention all JPU users! Regarding titanium backup restore problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9714885&postcount=14154
Pre-Requisites
01. Disable Voodoo if have it installed (create a folder named “disable lagfix” inside the “Voodoo” folder on your internal sdcard and reboot). If you’re coming from sztupy’s kernel, disable all lagfixes.
02. Make sure have the 2e recovery. If you don't have 2e recovery, see FAQ.
03. Make sure you have a backup of your /efs (not mandatory, but highly recommended).
04. Factory reset is NOT required, but is recommended. Wipe cache and dalvik cache if you’re not performing a factory reset.
05. DO NOT apply any outside theme/battery mods. See FAQ point 9 if you want a circle battery mod with this theme.
Installation Steps (Read this very carefully!)
01. Download the ROM (check above) and put it on your internal sdcard.
02. If you don't have a clockworkmod kernel, download clockworkmod recovery from here. You *need* Clockworkmod, this won’t work with stock recovery. Rename the clockworkmod recovery file to “update.zip” and put it on your internal sdcard.
03. If you had Voodoo installed prior to installing this ROM (Eclair or Froyo), make sure you still have the "disable lagfix" folder inside "/sdcard/Voodoo". If you’re coming from any other kernel, make sure you have disabled all Lagfixes.
04. Shutdown phone, wait for it to power down, then boot the phone into recovery mode (press volume up, keep it pressed, then press home button, keep it pressed, then press power button, keep it pressed until you see the Galaxy S screen. Release all three buttons when you see it).
04a. Do this step *ONLY* if you don't have clockworkmod already in your kernel. Select “apply sdcard:update.zip” (use volume rocker to move up and down, and home button to select). Clockworkmod recovery will boot now (you may have to do apply update.zip twice for Clockworkmod to show up).
05. Once in Clockworkmod, select “install zip from sdcard” (use volume rocker to move up and down and the back button to select).
06. Select “choose zip from sdcard” and then select the ROM zip package. Then choose yes.
07. The update will start (will take some 1-2 minutes) and during the flashing you will see some strange big characters on the screen, don’t worry, that’s normal. After the process finishes, you will be dropped back into Clockworkmod recovery. From there, choose go back, and then reboot phone.
08. The first boot will take some time as the ROM will deodex
Upgrade instructions (from previous versions of THIS ROM only!) (Thanks ragin!)
Always have a backup of your apps/data (Titanium Backup/MyBackup)
01. Download the updated ROM from post No. 2, and put it on your sdcard.
02. Boot into CWM recovery.
03. Choose install zip from sdcard in CWM, and browse to the downloaded zip file, and apply it.
04. Choose reboot phone.
05. If you had any lagfix applied previously, when the phone boots, you will be presented with a menu. Choose "remove new config" in that menu. The phone will reboot. If you didn't have any lagfix applied, the phone will boot straight!
EDIT: If you find the above difficult to follow, please have a look at this wonderful guide created by nitr8: http://nfye.com/toolkit/Doc-Froyo.pdf
..:: FAQ ::..
01. I don't have 2e recovery, how should I install this ROM? Disable Voodoo (if you have it), then install the corresponding CFRoot kernel to get 2e recovery, then flash this ROM as usual.
02. My apps are not retaining settings! Have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9778957&postcount=15980
03. I am on XXXXXXX ROM/Firmware. Can I flash this ROM? Yes you can, as long as you have 2e recovery. If you don't, check FAQ point 1.
04. What ROM do I need to be on to flash this ROM? This is a complete ROM, does not need a base ROM. You can flash on any firmware!
05. I am getting force closes with Maps/Voice Search/Google Search Update the apps from the market (they require manual update).
06. I'm getting error while installation (line 79/80) Make sure all lagfixes are disabled before you install this ROM, then reboot to stock recovery, clear data/cache, then try again.
07. I'm getting force closes all over the place Have a look at this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9006234&postcount=4097
08. My Market is not working This is not a ROM problem. To temporarily fix, Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage -> All -> Market -> Force Stop -> Clear Data -> Uninstall Updates.
09. I want a circle battery mod! This is now very easy to do! Do the following:
- Download any theme template from post No. 2, and flash it via CWM.
- Extract the file "framework-res.apk" from the "system/framework" folder inside the theme template zip you downloaded.
- Go to http://circle.glx.nl/ and customize your circle battery mod, when it asks for framework-res.apk, upload the one you just extracted from the theme template zip.
- Wait for some time, and you will be provided with a zip file to download. Once downloaded, put the file on your sdcard, and flash via CWM.
If the above is difficult to understand, here are alternative instructions from Adevem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9028090&postcount=4512
10. What happened to the full ROM? This is now a light and modular ROM. Just install the upgrade packages or missing apps update.zip from the 1st post via CWM to get the full ROM.
11. OMG I LOVE THIS ROM! What can I do to help? We're glad you like it! Stick around here, and try and help fellow users, that would be a great help! If you wish to donate, please donate to Doc (he's the actual person behind this ROM), sztupy (for the ULF kernel), curio (for voodoo) and many more of the awesome devs around here! If you're still feeling generous, you may donate to me too!
12. I am using the slim ROM, and I don't get the puzzle on the Samsung lock screen on an SMS. The Slim ROM contains AOSP MMS (SMS) app, hence no support for Samsung puzzle lock screen. If you want the puzzle lock screen for SMS, either install the FULL ROM, or extract the Mms.apk from /system/app on the full ROM, and push it in the slim ROM.
13. I am using the ASOP lockscreen, and when I press the menu button, the phone unlocks. Install this FIX (ONLY FOR XXJPX) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9921936&postcount=403
14. I am using the slim ROM, and KIES does not work. The slim ROM does not have the MTP apk, use the FULL ROM if you need KIES.
15. Some apps that use camera are force closing (barcode scanner, camera 360 etc) Try point #2 in this FAQ. If that doesn't work, do a factory reset.

Advice
- I strongly advice you to disable any lagfixes when upgrade to new roms or install new kernels.
- Always flash rom with FULLY charged battery!
- If you do a factory reset after install: lancher pro, sgs tools etc will be deleted.
Thanks to Hardcore for his great wok with kernels, Idan for his support and many more that makes this possible

Wait for a doc rom v8 release of this rom. Only for Bell users in this thread
Eagerly awaiting this, never tried flashing a rom before.... Will this be using Clockwork or Odin?

Thats very nice of you =)
Btw, is this version much faster/better? (since the name skipped a few numbers letters)
mmcblk0p1 = sdcard revived with clockwork today.
as i was testing stock kernel today, idiot (me) cleared cache without wipe (highly customized docs rom.
big NO NO when you change system files lol) in 3e recovery cause i felt clockwork did not clear properly. i was right. it cleared it alright.
booted first time but bunch of force closes. then it died 15 mins later. after reboot stuck at i9000m logo. 3e recover showed cant mount mmcblk0p1.
without the phone for reat of the day. got home few hours ago and remembered a post in forum about formating everything with clockwork. so installed hardcore kernel with odin and went to mount section in clockwork.
tried unmounting one by one and they all throw error including format boot but system, cache, data etc, showed format success. did not format sd or external cause i remembered i have copy of docs rom on the card. so just for added safety cleared dalwik again and flashed old docs v.1 that i had and it BOOTED!
in that thread some reported it works and some that it does not. it worked for me today. what happens tomorrow????
You rock Doc!!! I am new to all of this and am sooo looking forward to a Bell rom specific with all of ur goodies in it!!!
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
I already tested the stock ROM of this on my Captivate and it is smooth. It's also got a new email app: Samsung Email, which connects to a Social Hub.
http://socialhub.samsungmobile.com/
Just flashed Tayutama's JPM with the modem from this ROM and testing now. But plan to go to Doc's release once he uploads it.
Thanks (in advance) for the effort Doc. Looking forward to trying this out.
Update v1 posted,
The anxiety its really starting to ramp up!!
Just gimme a bit to get to the beer store first!!
I have a feeling it's going to be a relax, and beer session with my phone tonight!! everything goes good with Beer!! The Canadian way!

How does one get rid of CWR and use 2e recovery instead?
Also, the instructions you linked to, are for using clockwork recovery method.. not 2e... unless I'm missing something..
2e is factory recovery, and CWR is entirely different correct??

Anyone using the vibrant on rogers try this yet?
Waiting for a few reviews, then I'll probably move over to this on my gt-i9000m (currently running v6 of Doc/kalpik's rom with no issues, so I don't want to tempt fate )
What can we use for extended power menu and AOSP lockscreen? I love the doc theme that I have on v6 right now, and I'm not too anxious to give it up.
Thanks a million! I've been waiting for a bell specfic release that wont kill our band!
Kudos to you good sir! *hands a beer*
++EDIT++
How do we get other themes for this?
Andromeda
After much expectation, and especially since the official release of the gingerbread Squared team is proud to introduce the new ROM-based andromeda gingerbread.
we decided to release Andromeda after studying well the recipe for gingerbread and having minimized and eliminated all errors in compiling the rom, after many steps and much cooking time (thanks to our chef snakes) can move to introduce that as Andromeda all our rom we remind you that are always created directly from the original firmware, not copied from other
Now for the rom WIPE version:
- Deodexed
- Zipaligned
- Rooted
- Kernel CF Root
- LagFix inactive
- Modem and Ginger JVK band (I'm testing the battery)
- Adding app to organize your widget

- TouchWizLauncher colored glass
- 5 LockScreen

- New dialerTab
- New app temate
- Fugu tweaks
- CRT Off Animation
- Overscroll Glow

yes i know that but is it possible to integrate it in your rom ?
NoW is not possible...
Looks good... Is this a WIPE or NO WIPE version?
Thanks
Are wipe version..
Thanks for another ROM to try out.. Looks good.. will flash and post the feedback.. Good luck mate!
Just coz you cooked directly from stock rom doesn't mean that you didn't have a look ( maybe more than a look) at the Overscroll glow , CRT animation , lockscreen mods that are there. What about those lil credits. They deserve them
But hey, You deserve it too. Nice looking rom!. but the changes are not visible much now i guess. I will have to try it out for checkin it more.
Few questions :
1) why are u having Fugutweaks on?. It's not needed in a 2.3.3 rom. Those 'tweaks' are in fact files from 2.3.3 !!.
2)Where's the JVK Bootloader files ?. I guess it's not there in the flashable zip.
But You need them for GBread to boot and work properly. You haven't mentioned it in the Readme. Do it quickly before someone bugs up their phone.

Isn't it written there that its 'WIPE version'.
in the above mentioned instructions you didn't mentioned to install stock JVB.....is it not required ?
this is like all the other rom on the web if you coming from froyo you must install first gingerbread from odin with bootloader if you already come from gingerbread you just need to install a cwm and after install the andromeda rom!!and no the andromeda rom does not come with the stock ginger firmware you must get it on the web, download it first and installit with odin!!
and the rom its a wipe version!!if you come from froyo and install ginger with odin its already implement a wipe!!
well this could get confusing....

we have had an andromeda rom since January (now on the 3rd official release)
Seriously? You're going to call it Andromeda?
For the record,
this is not a Team Komin release.

I'm sorry, I did not know there was already a rom with that name ...
the idea of my team was to release the ROM with the names of the galaxies, in fact our old rom called "orion" ... sorry for the confusion that has arisen ...

no harm no foul. i dont think hostility or malice was the intent. we started working on Andromeda in December and put a lot of time and effort into it. There was an Andromeda rom prior to that, to which we got permission to use the name. with the amount of crossover we have between i9000 and captivate roms, an i9000 andromeda rom could be quite confusing for some, because a lot of captivate users love the i9000 roms and frequently come over here for the latest and greatest roms to have fun with.
thanks again .. sorry for this inconvenience, I did not create problems for users ...
you're really nice

Awjones for appextractor

Samsung
Note:
I did not mod any visual aspect of the rom so do not ask for screenshots, it is the same as any other stock rom with the same TouchWiz 4.0 Launcher.
I know that someone will ask for difference between this and other roms, well, this is a stock rom with some performance tweaks, at my personal taste it is pretty smooth and this won't be compared to the great Overcome roms speaking of visual enanchments and other tweaks.
For some reasons CSC is different in this new version than in older JQ1, i didn't have problems but in case let me know.

I'm assuming that flashing over an Overcome ROM with Kernel 4.0, this is a non-wipe ? True ??
Thanks for the good work
Thanks a lot.. Hope everything works well..
Nope, this is rom wipe all your data, it's the best way to avpid problems imo, using advanced restore in cwm you can restore all your data but i cannot guarantee if problems went.

I've just went to your profile to confirm, nice old days with WM 6.5.3 and Kaizer
This rom is fast. After a bit of costumization i got it to give me some descent performance.
This is actually a good base for making a rom that suits ones personal needs
Thanks for this gonna use it for some days now.
