I have an issue with kernels and my camera, I hope someone can chime in. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys and gals
I'm having a lot issues with roms that are being developed. From my understanding hardware versions 0004 are phones who seem to be having issues with the camera. That's not my case. I'm currently running 0003 and experiencing issues with my camera with just about every Rom I load that doesn't use a certain kernel.
For example - earlier today I loaded frost aosp Rom and really wanted to run it, but it uses a custom kernel which my phone doesn't like. I tried flashing the OTA kernel which is in the wiki and that too didn't work.
From what it seems and what I have tested is that the following kernel is about the only one that works for me.

I know people have been able to solve this by removing their battery for a while and I don't understand how that works for people. Upon trying it and rebooting my phone still has a broken cam.
If I can get any input on this I would greatly appreciate it.

I know that I have read somewhere that even some of the late 003 Hardware version EVO's have the same issue you have. Just a stab in the dark but have you tried the special version of Amon for 004 Hardware users. This supposedly fixes problems people were having flashing custom roms and kernels.
Stab in the dark but it may help you

I have not. I mean I'm running recovery 1.8 what else should I be doing? Would you be able to point me in the right direction?

Noob question.. what is froyo?

I did try to look it up on the net and its just not clear.. what is froyo? What does it do? Do i have it by default?
its an upgrade of Android OS - version 2.2 specifically. Stock does not have it yet, there are some customs in the dev that have it mostly working on the evo.
Wowwww, froyo is the newest version of android that has only been officialy released on the nexus one via ota update, and no you dont have it by default most likely...check under settings, about phone, software information, android v ersion and if its 2.2 is froyo, if its 2.1 or 2.0 its eclair, but if you tell me what device you have i can tell you if they have a froyo rom for you.

Cool, thx for the answer, can the
evo get it?
*This was posted from my Evo 4G*
From HTC, not for a while. If you are rooted then yes, but it does not work 100 pct. But soon, cm 6 will be here
I like how people use abbreviations when the Original Poster doesn't even know what Froyo is...
Obviously it's frozen yogurt! Yumm!

Need help finding compatible ROM

Ok so I have US Cellular's version of the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4g Touch (SCH-R760).
Long story short I messed up my build.prop folder and am stuck in a bootloop. I'm trying to find the stock ROM to flash with ODIN for my model but cant find it because its an obscure model. Does anyone know where I can find the stock SCH-R760 ROM, or a ROM compatible with my phone?
I'd even be cool with a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod, as long as its able to be flashed via ODIN and is compatible with my phone. Thanks in advance!
http://teamuscellular.com/Forum/index.php?/topic/1525-stock-odin-files/
here ya go
thank you so much! worked like a charm. i really appreciate the help. i made sure to save the rom files to my computer as well as performing a nandroid backup to prevent this from happening again. also, i was wondering if theres a stable ICS rom compatible for my phone yet. i searched around for it, but i dont trust my judgement.
If not ICS, what is a good souped-up fast custom ROM?

Ones that are made for your phone, obviously. Not gonna find them here though. Your phone is new and on a smaller carrier so development is going to be slow. I'm sure if you give it some time there will be a few ROMs that pop up. Just enjoy the stock ROM for now- root it, debloat it, toss some tethering into the mix. You'll be fine.
That link I put up has all the custom stuff I could find for your phone. Mainly CM7, CM9, Miui and AOKP.

Thanks again guys. Sorry Root i didnt realize that was on that thread i shouldve read the whole thing. Im good for the time being. Metalhead ive done all that so far rooted, debloated tether installed, and minor build.prop tweaks. I appreciate all the responses!
So it would seem that my gps doesnt work now. Any suggestions? Maybe an update/zip that ibcan flash via cwm?
CM 11
I have an sch-r760 on Alltel. I am running dastin1015's Villuminati CM 11 for the D-710. It is running flawlessly. I have voice/text/mms/data all working.
Any D710 ROM will work

I just tried that zip, it doesnt work. However in general a patch like this will work on our phone, we just need one that is right for us. And also this may be already baked into our roms.
Edit: I looked at the forums of my old phone and found a zip that works Link
So I was bored today and so I tested the different drivers with quadrant
Here are the results:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}

How it was tested:
Rom: Unofficial CM9
Procedure: battery pull, test first without then with 2D acceleration, flash qualcomm drivers, repeat tests
Conclusion: I am going to use the qualcomm drivers with 2D acceleration on because it is the best in two, almost three, out of five categories
Disclaimer: As I may have fudged this up, not gotten a big enough sample, or have slight differences in hardware, I strongly suggest that you try this for yourself
Edit: if your phone will not auto-rotate after you flash the drivers just do a cache wipe and it should start working again

I hope I don't come off as a **** saying this. If you have to ask, you need to do some more reading and learning before you start messing with stuff like this.

[Q] Caller ID showing weird symbols

So I am having an issue where my caller id from people not in my contact list is just showing weird symbols.
http://postimage.org/image/jq6n7ftuv/ - here is the image as it wont let me embed it currently.
As you can sww just weird symbols.
I am currently on CM10.0 with the KT747 kernel. I have tried different kernels and different roms to no avail. I believe the problem started when I flashed the AOKP rom but I am not 100% sure.
I have tried wiping everything and installing just CM10 and that did not work. I am not sure what else to try.
I am having this issue as well. I have also used several roms and kernels however this issue persists. Currently using i747z rom on Rogers.
That's actually kind of cool lol

I am seeing this on my LG P930 (Bell Optimus LTE) on CM10.1 (2/21 nightly) unlocked and connected to Rogers network.
I read, somewhere, that this is a problem on Rogers devices that are not using stock ROM's. And yes, I too have this issue running a 4.2.2 ROM.
Flash a different modem. That will fix the issue.
There is another thread here with people having the same issue and it was the modem. So before you start wiping everything flash a new modem first and see how it goes.

Chargig issue on 4.4 bootloader

Hi im new to the note 8 and foolishly updated to the latest kitkat before flashing aosp & cm roms but now when device is off the screen wont turn off and it doesnt seem to be charging (but it does when switched on)
I understand this is an issue with the new bootloader however is there a fix for this or a specific cm/aosp rom that works without the charging issue?
In the meantime I'm stuck on stock tw so any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried the latest nightly? From what I have read other CM11 based roms fixed this issue back in July and from reading the thread for the N8 it almost seems as if they fixed the issue as well. It would make sense that if CM11 for another Note device has this fixed that it was carried over.
I'm don't know for sure just relaying what I have read.
