Either Motorola DEFY or Xperia X10 - Defy General

hi,
i have the choice between Xperia 10 and the Defy. Which one would be the better choice?
Sorry if this is in the wrong category
Thanks in Advance

Defy, by far.

Xperia X10 is a pretty old phone by now. I guess the design and hardware is more fancy and nice to look at and touch than the Defy. It's also *finally* just got its 2.1 update.
The Defy isn't the most high-end device but it is ruggedized. No other smartphones are.
I guess it depends what you're after? SE sucks at supporting their devices with updates, and the X10 being older doesn't bode well either. The Defy is brand new and is at least going to get an official 2.2 update. Who knows about 2.3 though.

Motorola DEFY:
Weight: 118g
Size: 480x854 pixels (3.7 inch) good because they haven't been stretched so much compared to X10 to fix onto the screen.
storage: 2GB internal (good for 2.1 since you can only install app on internal memory)
Wifi: b/g/n (n = 300mbps same as iphone 4G)
Camera: 5MP
CPU and RAM:TI OMAP3610 800MHz processor, 512MB RAM
Sony ericsson Xperia X10:
Weight: 135g
Size: 480x854(4 inch) bad because those pixels are more stretched to be fixed onto 4inch
Storage: 1GB internet (2.1 OS = bad...half the memory compared to defy)
Camera: 8MP
Wifi: b/g only (same as iphone 3G)
CPU and RAM: Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon 1 GHz processor, 384MB ram (now this is where defy actually is weaker but nevertheless cpu can be overclocked although it's not recommended.
This cellphone is basically more expensive. I bought DEFY and i'm loving it.

Actually everything points towards it being a OMAP 3630 in the Phone. One example is that Windows is reporting the phone as OMAP 3630 when flashing new firmware and the second thing is that most benchmarking software are reporting a PoverVR SGX530 GPU in the phone (which 3630 has but not 3610)

A couple of points that need clarification IMO.
The difference in weight is not huge.
Neither handset is particularly heavy - both are lighter than the likes of the Desire HD or even the Desire Z.
The difference in pixel density again is quite slight, both displays are nice, neither is spectacular - the likes of the Galaxy S's sAMOLED screen and the iPhone's 'Retina Display' are both superior if the display is your biggest priority.
As for the CPU, you're just comparing the two on clock speed. That's really fairly pointless as one's a Snapdragon and the other's an OMAP model.
Certainly there are some similarities as both are built on the same architecture but not enough that clock speed alone - the TI OMAP CPUs seem to be more powerful at the same clock speed than Qualcomm's first-gen Snapdragon CPUs (which is what the X10 uses), same goes for the Samsung Hummingbird CPU for example.
@theOP: really you need to try the two handsets yourself and make the decision based on your needs and personal preference.
Both are capable handsets, both have their own pros and cons, neither are the very top-of-the-range models.

X10 was my favourite for my next phone, but now I think I will get a defy.
X10 is almost a little to big and wide for my pockets. I love the screen and design, but Defy is much more compact and rugged.
Also, the CPU in Defy is made in 45 nm technology, whereas snapdragon is 65, therefore Texas cpu consumes less power so the battery life should also be longer.

Also, an omap3630 at 800mhz means great performances - because defy HAS 3630, still i can't understand the weird specs provided by motorola - check for some defy's benchmark over the net and you will see with your eyes.
In my opinion defy is better and also cheaper than x10, although i could be not so fair since i'm a defy owner

To be less unfair then i add a counterpart, x10 is definitely better if you're looking for a great camera, SE takes really care about that.

Pics I have seen from a DEFY are really pretty good IMO so unless exterior aesthetics are your worry I would think the DEFY would be an easy choice.

I've tried the X10 and found the camera to be pretty shockingly poor.
Even in bright light, it kept exposing for so long that blur was a major issue and the pictures were really quite noisy.
A definite step back from the likes of the C905 IMO.

The Specs the HD 7 should of had.

I am feeling a little let down with the current release of WM7 phones.
There was a real chance for HTC in particular to do a Killer WM7 phone but instead we get a rehashed HD2 and poor build quality.
It could have been the best phone on offer buy a long shot.
These are the specification we should of been offered.
1 GHz Qualcomm 8260 Snapdragon processor
WM7 with HTC Hub
16 or 32 GB Memory
768 MB of RAM
Size: 123 x 68 x 11.8mm (4.84 x 2.67 x 0.46 inches)
Weight: 164 grams (5.78 ounces) with battery
4.3″, WVGA resolution Capacitive display
HSPA/WCDMA (900/2100 MHz) and GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
Bluetooth® 2.1, A2DP, FTP, OPP, and PBAP
Wi-Fi®: IEEE 802.11 b/g/n
3.5 mm stereo audio jack
Standard micro-USB (for charging and syncing)
8 megapixel color camera with auto focus and dual LED flash with 720p HD video recording
1500 mAh rechargeable lithium ion battery
Motion, proximity, and ambient light sensor
4 G compatible.
1.3 mega-pixel front facing camera
Most of these specs are straight from the HTC Desire HD.
This phone would of been spot on for me.
rrrr... what? there is very little in your specs list that would make it that much better. like 768 MB of ram. That is an improvement but not much imo. and all this is pretty much already the HD7. I havent really been following the HD7 so i dont know the exact specs but, it does look the same

8 megapixel camera [Only 5 meg in HD 7]
1500 mAh rechargeable lithium ion battery. [1230 mAh HD 7]
A secondary camera of 1.3 MP is also offered for video calling. [Sorry forgot to add this one.]
Also it is Qualcomm® QSD 8650. [I will correct it]
And 4 G compatable.
Also the build of the HD 7 is not as good as HTC Desire HD.
QSD 8250 / 8650 is the same processor more or less - difference is the latter does CDMA.
People need to stop whining about the specs already.
come on guys its HTC, u know how they market their products.. just wait for a few months they will bring out a HTC whatever name it is will this and that. this is how they make money..
look at all those HTC wp7 phone, i seen 2 of them and what can i say.. the OS is awesome phone is ****.. feels like really cheap plastic.. and yes my friends hates me for saying there new phone is crap.
why does HTC need to bring out 4 wp7 phone there is no advantage if u compare it.. apart from the 8 mega camera
MS managed to get OEMs not to screw the system or drivers or anything. HTC found a way around. Screw chassis. What were they thinking? "Hey, there's small space between battery cover and chassis!" "Blah, doesn't matter, WE HAVE DRIVERS FROM MICROSOFT, IT IS MICROSOFT'S FAULT!!" or what??
// talking about HD7
If you compare the specs to some other Android devices then the specs are not that bad for first gen WP7 devices.
They are all at least 1Ghz and thats good for new smart phone buyers.

The only thing I think on this list as an improvment is the bigger battery but saying that its still better than the desire in real world use. Plus it won't take much to sell a bigger battery in the store.
More ram is not needed it only improves perfomance if you fill the lower amount and that's only happens with androids rubbish managment.
Front cameras don't sell phones nobody really uses then and just use up space.
Build quality is solid never held a phone that's felt so well made.
On top the screen rocks so what its LCD you can only tell if you put them side by side and its better in the sun.
All in all its s top notch phone and I love it makes android look amature and unfinished and IOS look dull
The thing with the CPU is that it will perform better than the Desire HD in most cases anyways, since the Dalvik VM in android is pretty slow compared to the .NET CLR engine.
Also, most android apps are designed to work on the mid end devices so very few does use the full potential of a High End Android device.
I think that android is going to dominate MidEnd in the future, and WP7 and iOS compete in High end.

This is not what some reviews are saying about it.
Hopping you are right though
Here is one link where they mention build quality:

If you have had one at hand is it as well built as the HD2??
I suspect that you are somehow commercially tied to O2 perhaps?

Defy (and Defy+'s) successor revealed

http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/7/26...ages-suggest-a-new-edition-to-the-defy-family
Judging from the model number, this is indeed the follow up to the Defy (MB525) and Defy+ (MB526). Physically larger, with the same size screen, and a weak Qualcomm processor.
Thoughts? Personally, I'm speechless. What a joke.
Just Motorola trying to stuff as much fist up consumers asses for the second time, the first being the Defy+ xD

this is the defy mini, 3.2" (significantly smaller, than the one in the defy). this is just a cheaper, weaker version of the defy, not its successor...

Wrong unfortunately, the Defy Mini is the XT320, which has a HVGA screen. This is a different phone and definitely the follow up to the Defy, especially given the model number.

I think you are right, this one have the same screen with the same resoltuion, and almost exactly the same design....except for the bulk at the bottom below the sensitive buttons.
And I share your analysis: the only novelties are in fact new defaults: extra bulk is never a good thing if the screen is not bigger, and proc seems weaker Only improvement is that it is thinner. For me the Defy/Defy+ is clearly a superior device. Now maybe they plan to sell it cheaper...The original Defy was an incredibly good deal when it came out, something I would have expected from a Chinese manufacturer, not Moto..In fact, it is still unmatched in some ways. Although it is in no way an excuse: Moto is definitely guilty of overmilking the cow, almost like they do regret the introduction of the original Defy as a mid-range device and try to make up for their lost...
Hope this helps. ...

Thanks, already saw those though and they're not the same as the one I posted. Looks like the XT535 really is the Defy follow-up.
Hopefully at Mobile World Congress, someone announces a high-end dual or quad core phone that's as compact as the Defy. The screen size to physical phone size ratio of the Defy is unbeatable and it's a shame they've abandoned this strength in the XT535.
Oh Kz. ... ya i agree with you. ..... it's a pity to see such a weak successor to defy .... but then atleast the line is being followed up. ...
based on the gsmarena info, the defy mini is 2 mm longer then
defy+. does the "mini" refer only to the screen size?
actually i would have welcomed a smaller defy+, something
like the xperia active. that sits in the hand amazingly.
rugged phones are not about big screen size anyway
(or shouldnt be).
I wonder why they all use capacitive buttons on these models? Surely for a "rugged" phone mechanical buttons would be better?
More room at the bottom would make it easier to press the buttons when holding 1 handed, and less likely for me to bump the search button with the the palm of my hand . I think I usually bump it with the part of the hand called "Thenar".
dont get it. they put a lanyard hook point thingy on the 'non-tough' Luxe, but dont on the new mini-defy?
gArBaGe !
Wifi b/g/n, but no 4G.
Looks like Moto is ensuring a solid resale market for the original Defy.
I would have thought the Defy line would progress towards the Atrix, but alas, only the skin bears any resemblance.
AT&T must have that licensing deal sewn up tight.
Motorola could have done something really awesome if they had announced something like a dual core defy or something ........ but damn. .....what just came out ..

Mechanical = has the potential to break, and to let in dust or water. You can make rugged mechanical controls but they cost $$$ - thus capacitative buttons are a lower cost solution.
You'd be quite right to point out that the disadvantage of capacitative buttons is that you can't easily use them wearing gloves, as builders and people engaged in outdoor activities tend to do - two prime markets for the Defy line.
If Motorola are seriously 'replacing' the Defy with a phone running an ARM11 CPU, they need their heads looking at.
The original Defy (using ARMv7 CPU) clocked to 1GHz will have performance not far off double of that of an 800MHz ARM11 chip.
My first Android phone was a ZTE Blade (ARM11 which I clocked at around 700MHz). My second Android phone was a Defy and the difference in performance between the two devices was night and day.
a 480 x 854 FWVGA screen, and a 5-megapixel main camera, all powered by a Qualcomm MSM7227A processor which it suggests is clocked at 800MHz.

So they are using an msm7k (arm11) processor? Are they kidding me? Basically this means that the phone will suck.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Its like a trick they use to trick the ones with no knowledge whatsoever about SoC.
Terrible...I'd be so happy if they simply upgraded the defy
(Larger screen, dual core cpu, more ram, more rom ) but looked the same, kinda like the Atrix
I've got an Atrix now.
Good phone, not too big or bulky and with good performance.
The downsides are that battery life is worse than the Defy (bigger screen and dual-core explains this) and what I call the "shiny back of death". The plastic on the back of the phone is glossy and so slippery that I've already dropped it a couple of times. Thankfully no damage yet but I'm now waiting for the arrival of a thin hardcase to give me a better grip!

Gigabyte GSmart Mika M3 Review

I am very happy because I have a opportunity to review a really cool smartphone Gigabyte GSmart Mika M3. As you may know Gigabyte is most popular in computer world. They decided that they want bigger piece of pie in the mobile market so because of that they are working hard. And lately we can see better and better devices from Gigabyte GSmart. Stay here and see how good is Mika M3.
Design
I must admit that this device reminds me of several others devices. For example Gigabyte GSmart Mika M3 reminds me of Sony Xperia Z series. I must say also that I like this kind of design with flat surfaces. So in my opinion design is very elegant and cool and I think that most of you will like it. Talking about build quality the Mika M3 is completely made of plastic where the front side is black with small part of gray. So the back cover and edges are dark purple. About build construction there is one new thing because it has a key or button for taking photos. This is really smart move from Gigabyte. In overall the design is very cool and build quality is also high.
Display
They noticed that lately we can see that many new smartphones come with larger displays. But it is often not practical because of the size of the device. I see that many people would love to see smaller smartphones and because of that Gigabyte produced Mika M3 device which has screen with ideally size of 5 inch. This screen is IPS with HD resolution or to be precise it has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. I can say that I am pleasantly surprised because display on Mika M3 is crystal clear. Believe me you will love it also because the screen is sharp and display is pleasing the eye. The only drawback is because it has no screen protection but I think for this price range there are only few devices with this kind of protection.
Performance
Gigabyte GSmart Mika M3 is mid range smartphone and it is based on Mediatek MT6582 chipset. This is quad core CPU at speed of 1.3 GHz and it has installed 1 GB of RAM with 8 GB for storage space. For storage you can update your space with microSD card up to 32 GB. For graphics operations we have Mali-400MP2 GPU. As you can see this is medium strong hardware which will be in 99.9% enough for every purpose. So you will be able to do anything you want including playing games. I have personally tried many apps and every opposition worked like a charm. So you don't need to worry about it and if you want you can see below screenshots from several benchmark tests.
Software
You may already noticed that every new smartphone and some older ones have installed or been updated to Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. So Gigabyte also follows the trend and logically Gigabyte GSmart Mika M3 comes out of box with Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. I noticed that operating system is partially customised but most is stock. The UI is very fast and fluid thanks to good optimisation. Until now I did not find any problems with OS.
Connectivity and GPS
As you may already know many Chinese devices or smartphones does not support frequency 900MHz which is very important for Europe. Because many mobile phone companies still use these frequencies in smaller places and other areas. So I can say again that Gigabyte has made a smart move because Gigabyte GSmart Mika M3 completely supports 3G network. It supports WCDMA 900/2100MHz. I have also tested the GPS with GPS test application and GPS worked as it should to work with out any help. So you don't need to do any modifications for the GPS. I am telling you this because many Chinese phones have problems with GPS but not this one.
Camera
In this price range photo quality is mostly poor. So to be honest I did not expect something special from GSmart Mika M3. But I was wrong because photo quality is really good, photos are sharp enough and colours are almost natural. I can say that I'm pleasantly surprised with Mika M3. As technical information it has 13 megapixel main camera with led flash. It has all standard functions like geo-tagging, touch focus and face detection. Also you can see below photo examples made by this device.
Battery
Gigabyte GSmart Mika M3 has Li on battery with capacity of 1900mAh according to the manufacturer. After testing I can say that with above average use it gives autonomy of one and half day. For this kind of device it is pretty good.
Pricing and conclusion
I can say that I am pleasantly surprised with Gigabyte GSmart Mika M3. Because it is very hard to find good quality smartphone in this price range. It has high build quality, elegant design and excellent screen. But I am also surprised with good quality camera and strong battery. So I think if you decide to buy this device you will be very happy with it. Price is about $190 and for more information you can visit official website.

The Newest News of UMi Rome :
UMi Rome Is A $99 Smartphone With MT6753 & 3GB of RAM
UMi is known for making value for money smartphones and this is evident from its recent releases like the UMi Iron Pro and the UMi Hammer S. Now, the company is going to take things to a whole new level with its brand new device, called as the UMi Rome. This latest release from the company will bring the best specifications that we have seen on a phone under $100.
The UMi Rome will feature the fast MT6753 octa-core chip clocked at 1.3GHz. This is the same chip that powers most other mid-range flagships in the market under $200. Along with the powerful processor, the company has included 3GB of RAM. Yes, you heard it right! The phone will indeed feature 3GB of RAM with 16GB of internal storage to make sure that you no longer have to settle for slow smartphones at a budget price.
As for the display, the UMi Rome will feature a large 5.5-inch screen with 1280 x 720p resolution. With this display, you are sure to enjoy watching movies and playing games on the device. At the back, there will be a 13MP Sony IMX164 sensor with dual LED flash. What makes the UMi Rome even more interesting is the presence of an LED flash up front aiding its 2MP shooter. It will surely attract a lot of selfie lovers to this device.
The phone is also pretty compact, measuring just 7.9mm in thickness. Inside this body, you get a 2500mah battery that's large enough to last an entire day. Finally, the Rome will run on the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.
As you can see, these are great specs for a phone that costs just $99.99. In fact, this budget device can take on the so called flagships like Cubot X15 and Ulefone Paris in a number of areas.
3GB RAM + 16GB ROM, $99.99, really?
The IMX164 is an 8mp senso. So the 13mp is an interpolation.
i saw some real pictures here:
but it seems not at $99.
Looks like a cross between an iPhone and an Elephone P8000.

What can offer a smartphone for $ 89 nowadays?
Over the past few weeks we have seen Chinese phone makers release phones for under $100, some for as little as $70. And for the money they have all looked pretty good, but as prices creep lower so does the amount of RAM available in them.
The answer gives you the UMi Rome , with the design, features and price, this phone could be one of the most affordable smartphone .
UMi Rome has 5.5 AMLED "HD 2,5D display and MediaTek MT6753 octa-core 1.3GHz SoC, well 3 GB of RAM , 16 GB of internal memory , Battery 2,500 mAh and Lollipop Android 5.1 pre-installed. The phone has the intricate CNC’d chassis visible around the edges of the device.
Impossible not to notice how the rear and the lower frame with speaker and micro-USB socket of the device then are guided by Galaxy Note 5 (also the shape of the camera is almost identical), although in the render below the similarity is slightly less marked.
Umi Rome was priced at $ 90. At this price these parameters look great.

UMI Rome short review
I received an UMI Rome today and made a lot of tests of it and I must say that even for $110 I’m rather disappointed. Here are some of my early findings.
Build quality
The build quality is ok for the price. The phone feels rather solid and weighs 183 grams with screen protector on. But it’s thick and it also feels rather thick and clumsy in the hand. The specs from UMI say 7.9 mm which is a lie even if I measure beside the protruding camera. Beside the camera it’s 9 mm thick and over the camera it’s 10.4 mm. Too thick in my opinion. Also the buttons on the side rattles a bit and feels a bit ”cheap”.
Display
It’s no AMOLED display as far as I can see. On the contrary it seems to be a rather mediocre LCD HD 1280x720 display with not so good viewing angles and a lot of light leakage at the top of the display. If it’s really an AMOLED I wonder how it can have that much light leakage at the top? It’s also no real 2.5D display. The glass has slightly rounded edges but that doesn’t make it 2.5D when there is so much borders on the sides of the display. It just looks 2.5D when the screen is off. The aspect ratio between actual screen and the rest of the front is very good though. The worst downside of the screen is perhaps that it only has a 2-point digitizer. It’s many years since even the cheapest smart phones on the market started to have 5-point touch displays. Really bad. Also the screen has very bad touch sensitivity but probably it gets a bit better if I remove the screen protector.
Radio reception
All radios are suffering from very bad reception. I wonder how they managed to build such a large phone with so bad antennas? The wifi signal is generally 20 dB lower in WiFi Analyzer in the Rome than in my cheap MT6735 reference phone. Also the 4G download speed is low. In Ookla Speedtest I get below 30 Mb/s download speed and below 8 Mb/s upload speed on the same spot as I get 100/40 Mb/s in the MT6735 reference device. The max speed in my 4G network is 100/100 Mb/s on LTE B20. I think the modem in MT6753 is capable of 150 Mb/s download speed and therefor I draw the conclusion that the reception in the Rome is very bad due to bad antennas. Also the GPS reception is very bad. There is no way that I can get a fix inside whereas the MT6735 reference gets a fix in only a few seconds. Even outside it takes a long time to first fix. Seems like antenna problems again. I almost wonder if there’s some production error in my Rome, if all the antennas are wrongly or badly connected somehow? I haven’t tried the BT yet but I suspect that it suffers from the same problem.
Performance
In AnTuTu V6 I get a score of 37,500 which is ok I think. The Mali-T720 GPU in the MT6753 is relatively fast and therefor even most 3D games runs ok. Especially since the GPU only has to drive a HD display. In Geekbench 3 the multi-core score is also ok at 2,900. However, it’s the single-core score that really counts in my opinion and that score is quite low at 620. The low single-core score is reflected in the Sunspider 1.0.2 java test. The Rome needs almost 1200 ms to finish that test with the stock browser. It’s not fair to compare with my $800 iPhone 6S but the 6S finishes the same test almost 6 times faster. One good thing I’ve noticed with all MT6753 devices is that they don’t overheat like the miserable MT6752 SoC does in all devices that I have tested. 5 minutes of HD video in YouTube over WiFi only brings the highest monitored temp in CPU-Z to less than 45°C, whereas the MT6752 easily reaches 70°C.
Cameras
The main camera is quite good but only 8 MP (IMX164 confirmed) interpolated to 13. The photos looks natural in colour and whitebalance, unlike the photos from UMI Hammer 5" for example. Setting the camera resolution to the true resolution, 8 MP in this case, seems to make the photos sharper and better. Maybe because the interpolation mess up the photos. The front camera is a rather bad GC2355 fixed focus 2 MP camera. Maybe good enough for video calls but definitely not good enough for the users who wants to take selfies.
Root
This is the greatest strength of this and other UMI phones. The phone comes pre-rooted with just a flick of a switch. Also SuperSU is already there as soon as you activate developer options and unlock the bootloader. Many thanks to UMI for the initiative to sell the phones pre-rooted (maybe depending on which version of Rome it is for different markets?). Also the Rootjoy PC software deserves a lot of cred even though there’s no other firmware available for the Rome yet (and might never be?).
Software
The phone comes totally free from bloatware. No Chinese crapware and not much gapps crap. Again UMI should have a lot of cred for that I think. All there is is just a standard Android 5.1 + SuperSU.
I add a few screen dumps below from some of the tests I made. If I make any new observations worth sharing I will add them in edits below the original post.

Thanks for the short interview, I found it very useful. Your review reflects most of the issues which people have complained in Umi forum. I also ordered mine around 2 weeks ago, hoping it will be okay for my usage.
Through rootjoy update firmware to v3.03

The phone is ok but not worth the money really. The battery time turns out to be a lot worse than I thought and there is no way that it's real 2500 mAh. I might test the real capacity over a test load just to prove my point. I did that with the UMI Hammer (the 5", not Hammer S) and it turned out that the specs were greatly exaggerated (not to say faked). I found a lot of other small bugs and problems in the Rome also but hopefully some of them will be fixed with firmware upgrades soon.
I think that the Elephone M2 (same SoC) is a lot better buy at 150 USD (what I paid on pre-order in October 2015), which really means a lot because I don't like the Elephone brand.

Yea, I received the phone. The build is quite good, but the touch screen quality is quite bad, and camera quality does not do better. It's been one day, so I am still trying to see what I can do to improve. I also got Iron Pro for myself, Rome is for my gf, and Iron Pro is quite good though. Umi does produce a nice design and good build phones, but they should do better with their software. And they should stop using false/hype marketing like big companies, they shouldn't do that with their growing reputation *crossed fingers for new update

Cubot Manito Hands On Review

Hi All,
I've picked up a bit of a bargain phone called a Cubot Manito. It cost me £72 from Gearbest which seems to be the cheapest price for a 3GB phone around, however please feel free to do some research to find your favoured vendor.
Please see below for a little review of the phone.
Basic tech specs
Main Features:
Display: 5.0 inch HD screen
CPU: MTK6737 Quad Core 1.3GHz
System: Android 6.0
RAM + ROM: 3GB RAM + 16GB ROM
Camera: Back camera 8.0MP ( SW 13.0MP ) + front camera 1.3MP ( SW 5.0 MP)
Bluetooth: 4.0
Navigation: GPS, A-GPS
Sensor: G-sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Light sensor
SIM Card: Dual SIM dual standby, one is micro SIM card, the other is nano SIM card
Network:
2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
3G: WCDMA 850/900/2100MHz
4G: FDD-LTE 800/1800/2100/2600MHz
The Manito comes with a screen protector already applied and a case in the box which is great as I'm sure you'd need to go online to buy these - not likely to be in your local phone store.
The Manito comes with a 5 inch screen on a standard resolution of 1280×720 pixels (or 720P) which gives us a PPI (pixels per inch) of 294 - more than good enough.
In terms of display performance the colours looked good, whites were nice and white but the blacks were a little more like a dark charcoal. The phone has the 'Miravision' display tweaking option built in and I found that setting this to 'Vivid' gave the best results.
The build quality of the Cubot Manito was much better than I'd expect from a phone costing as little as this. It feels very solid and well put together, with the metal frame giving a bit of reassurance and a slightly more premium feel than the all-plastic devices that you generally get at this price range.
The back of the phone has a removable plastic cover, this is slightly soft touch and has a diamond pattern in it which I wasn't overly keen on but it did improve grip.
3gb of RAM is a great feature at this end of the pricing spectrum and this really helps the performance of the Manito. Although it only has a 1.3Ghz Quad Core CPU I didn't have any trouble with games like Temple Run or Hot Wheels, but I don't expect that it would cope too well with more hardcore 3D games.
In everyday use I didn't really notice any problems with the performance of the phone, though initial set up took forever when I was installing about 30 apps at once.
Cubot haven't played too much with Android, and this looks and feels like a pretty stock version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which most users will be more than happy with.
The camera performance of the Manito wasn't amazing, but again we need to bear price tag in mind. I have had phones that cost more with worse cameras. Photos taken outdoors in daylight came out quite well, but quality suffered as light levels dropped.
Video quality wasn't very good at all but that's to be expected.
GPS and Bluetooth both worked fine, I had this set up with my car using Android Auto and didn't experience any problems.
The biggest issue I had with the Cubot Manito was the battery - it's only rated at 2350mAh which is very small for a current phone. I found that if I left for work with a fully charged phone I would struggle to make it to about 10pm, so you may want to top up the battery during the day. Not a big issue as I'm sure most of us are used to doing this but as we're now seeing phones with 3000mAh being commonplace this seemed like a bit of a compromise.
Overall though I cannot complain about any aspect of this phone at this price. It seems an absolute bargain and does everything that most users would need at a fraction of the price of mainstream phones.
shipped with trojan.spy.agent.ytb youtube client and fotaprovider spyware
It's true about the shipped virus (I've read) but it's a good phone and you can sort the Operating System out using downloads on this site, NeedRom, and ChinaPhoneArena!
