Are there any ways to get my phone to use a different DNS while connecting over mobile internet. Maybe soe APN setting?
IMGUR images are now blocked which makes using reddit and digg.com useless.
Can't you phone them up and ask them to unblock it? Surely if it's a legitimate site they should have no cause for blocking it.
Yeah, I'm trying that route currently. The phone company follows the IWF internet watch foundation guidelines blindly. The IWF seem to class imgur as a child exploitation site. Idiots. They are the crowd who tried to ban Wikipedia.
use a proxy to get round it.
Try hidemyass.com
Ok i got my EVO setup how I want I got droidwall installed and everything is working great but whenever I use my browser I notice 100s of blocked packets coming from (kernel) I searched the ips it was blocking, for some reason the sites I visit try to use kernel to send packets to themselves. I visit theync site occasionally and that site tries to send 100s of packets through kernel to itself? That doesn't seem necessary. What's going on?
Also the site works perfectly with the packets blocked. That's why its bothering me. It does this on any browser I use on my EVO 4g.
When I posted here it tried to send 16 packets to Google and a few to 50.23.216.68-50.23.216.69
Maybe blocking things like ads.. google ads more specifically. Also possibly browser cookie/User agent string related.
I allowed kernal and everything seems fine. Should settings be allowed internet? I get logs every now and then with it trying to send data to burkley in California.
First of all i did not found an apropiate sub forum to start my thread, so really sorry if this is a wrong forum. I owned galaxy nexus so I thought this would be a good sub forum
Now let's come to the main issue.
Recently an anti islamic movie was upload to Youtube. Which creates alot of tension in the 3rd world.... Pakistan's government block the website across the Pakistan to protest against the video. And YouTube will remained close till the removal of that video (which ain't gonna happen like this).
As you all know that Pakistan is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Pakistan telecommunication authority hire inexperienced IT experts due to political pressures. These incompetent employees and government could not manage to block the YouTube properly at first. So PTA immediately block the IP of YouTube. But in doing of such impotent work by our ****ty government more then half of Google services become unusable in Pakistan. We can't connect to gmail account on our android and not even play store.
We can not download apps from the app store because of such failed action of our government.
As you know that YouTube is owned by Google. Yoiube IP is same as most of the Google's ip's.
PTA have blocked the IP so many Google services had stop.
In light of above explanation I need a work around on how open my gmail account and play store. Any help would be highly appreciated.
I know through proxy I can unblock the websites. But I,m unable to sync my gmail account through proxies because of the Google's high security. And I still can not download apps via market through proxy.
Give me a good suggestion. Any work around, any good proxy please.
Any modified Google play store.
I have galaxy nexus, galaxy note HTC desire and Asus transformer. All of them could not connect to Google services due to this blockage. And I know this problem had spread across whole of the android users in pakistan.
Refrain from political discussion or abusing thanks.
THE THREAD IS CLOSED, YOU CAN GO TO http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903105 for Solution Thanks
I don't think a workaround will work unless PTA lifts the ban or at least unblock ip's affecting google services. I have a galaxy note and I thought it was because of the custom ROM I was running. So I did a full wipe, nothing happened. Then I checked on my brothers HTC one X which was on stock and he was having the same problem. PTA guys are a bunch of ****ing retards. Thanks for starting this thread, I hope someone comes up with a solution. Btw, I started experiencing this problem yesterday while youtube was blocked a few days before. When did you first start experiencing these problems?
Well for websites I know there are sites I know you can use to mask what you are looking at, but I don't think it will work with services based in apps.

How are you trying to connect to google services, via WiFi or EDGE? If WiFi, then which ISP (PTCL DSL, Wateen or some other?) I see you're on Warid's network.
I'm in Karachi and my Google related accounts sync/work fine over wifi but have a problem over EDGE/2G. If you're trying to download apps from mkt I can only assume you use wifi for it (because on EDGE speeds it would take you forever to download any apps at all). PTCL is the only ISP that has a problem as far as I know. I know in Lahore and Karachi several isp's are working fine in this regard (Wateen, WiTribe, Worldcall, etc).
If you're trying to get google services to work over EDGE on Warid then you can just use gmail and market etc from the browser, which works fine. Only the apps themselves have a problem (like email sync which takes really long).

I,m from sialkot,Punjab. here all edge networks and ISP are having the same issue. I had tried Wateen, Witribe, and ptcl they all getting the same issue, i don't know if they are working through the same channel or not. i have tried edge over ufone, warid, mobilink. but still can't open the play store and contact syncs in gmail account on my android.
On my Gnex i,m running on Slim bean 2.5 rom, and AOKP on Asus Transformer. All of them are getting the same error.
if your play store is working good, i heard there are some apps in play store which can direct android traffic through proxy channel. kindly research on it and see if one of them can work for youtube app in android. i think that is possible. because if i modify my access point(wifi) setting in android, and set proxy setting to manual, and enter the proxy ip with port. i can access youtube and i can also sync gmail. but that channel only work for 2 or 3 min :/. i kept on changing proxies ip and ports. but not working

Thanks for your Post. Is there any apps on play store which can direct all android traffic through proxy channel? i have tried modifying my access point settings through wifi advance settings, and set proxy mode to manual and set ip of proxy. that is a possible work around and my gmail and youtube also work for 2 or 3 min, but not a permanent work through, can you please research on any work around. if possible. i,m looking to subscribe Hidemyass.com for complete anonymous Ip. if it can work on android through some kind of proxy app.
You might be able to do this using a VPN. Settings > More > VPN. You'll need to find a free VPN service that will give you the login information. I'm sure there's one out there but I don't know any off the top of my head.

Try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aed.droidvpn ? DroidVPN free has a limit of 100MB a day which i guess is good enough for sync purpose?
if you have a rooted phone then you can use this proxy in your wifi settings. I tested, it works. not too slow either

I don't understand the problem, what issue are you facing? If you have a UBL WIZ Internet card, just login to play store, press buy on any app and enter your card details like you would with any credit card - your card number, the cvc/cvv code at the back the expiry date and your billing address - works fine here
Make sure you call UBL's phone help line first and give them your card number and confirm if you are authorised to make online transactions
EDIT: It doesn't matter if the price stated is in US$ or Britis Pound or Euros or Kuwaiti Dinars, UBL bank will convert to Pak Rs with their prevailing bank conversion rate and charge your card for the right amount automatically
FWIW, I used Witribe today (in Pindi) and Playstore works fine. PTCL is flaky - sometimes, yes, at other times, no. I'm on Mobilink (I think I need to update my profile) and I couldn't sync my account with Google the entire day.
So - it depends from ISP to ISP. Your best bet is to either use Onavo Extend - or Orbot (Tor) for Android... or another VPN solution.

DroidSheep is an Android application that demonstrates security weaknesses (not using https) and is capturing facebook, twitter, linkedin , yahoo, and other accounts.
PS> this is NOT my work, nor do i intend it to be taken as my work, I just wanted to share with the community!
NOTE FROM THE GERMAN DEVELOPER:
DroidSheep was developed as a tool for testing the security of your accounts.
This software is neither made for using it in public networks, nor for hijacking any other persons account.
It should only demonstrate the poor security properties network connections without encryption have.
So do not get DroidSheep to harm anybody or use it in order to gain unauthorized access to any account you do not own! Use this software only for analyzing your own security!
So do not get DroidSheep to harm anybody or use it in order to gain unauthorized access to any account you do not own! Use this software only for analyzing your own security!
Now>
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
1. A rooted phone (no, it will for sure not work without root)
2. The App installed on the phone (latest build attached to the present post)
3. A WIFI network to test it on
How do you use it?
DroidSheeps main intention is to demonstrate how EASY it can be, to take over nearly any internet account. Using DroidSheep any user – even without technical experience – can check if his websession can be attacked or not. For these users it is hard to determine, if the data is sent using HTTPS or not, specially in case of using apps. DroidSheep makes it easy to check this.
This video demonstrates what DroidSheep can do:
http://droidsheep.de/?page_id=14
How does it work?
As already announced DroidsSheep supports almost every website – also “big” webservices like facebook and Yahoo.
How does that work this simple?
There are many users that do not known that air is the transmission medium when using WiFi. Therefore information is not only transfered to its receiver but also to any other party in the network within the range of the radio waves.
Usually nothing special happens because the WiFi users discard packets that are not destined to themselves. DroidSheep does not do this. It reads all the packets looking at their contents.
Is a website sending a clear recognition feature within a message’s content, which can identify a user (“SessionID”), then DroidSheep is able to read it although it is not intended to external users. Moreover DroidSheep can use this token to use it as its own. The server can’t decide whether the authorized user or DroidSheep has sent the request.
http://droidsheep.de/?page_id=424
How can I protect myself?
The only satisfying answer is: SSL respectively HTTPS.
Many providers already offer HTTPS, even facebook, however it must often be enabled in the settings first.
When using HTTPS the data are still sent to alle participants in the WiFi-network, too, but because the data has been encrypted it is impossible for DroidSheep to decrypt the contect of a message - remaining only a complete mess of letters, with which an attacker can’t do anything.
The real problem is that not every website provides SSL. What to do when you are in a public network (hotel, airport, etc.), you also want to use this and the site does not offer HTTPS though?
You can use a VPN-connection
For this the computer sets up an encrypted channel to a confidential computer which again transfers the data to the website.
You can also install DroidSheep Guard from the Market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.trier.infsec.koch.droidsheep.guard.free&hl=en
A very interesting feature is the possibility to save cookies!!
Source> http://droidsheep.de
Imagine the possibilities....
This isn't good dude.
And 'air' isn't the 'transmission medium' for WiFi. We figured that out when we discarded the ether hypothesis around a century ago.

-what exactly "isn´t good" ?
Ok you are correct, yes, WIFI (as any other electromagnetic wave) can also be transmitted through vacuum, so yes there is no need of "air"
Re-ported to a MOD I don't think this should be shown or talked about on XDA this isn't an hacking site like you might think for taking advantage of other peoples accounts.
XDA is a hacking community for the good like Rooting.
This app has been on XDA for quite a while http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593990
Even a portal article about it http://www.xda-developers.com/android/droidsheep-undresses-network-security-and-shows-how-its-done/
Please use the main thread to discuss this app, not this one.
@ shankly1985, we appreciate your concern, but people need to know how insecure important accounts can be. Thus enabling them to make the changes to fix them.

T-Mo blocks access to web pages if they see a certain UA string, its pretty easy to get around, but my question is,
Isn't how they are blocking us illegal? For them to be able to block this would they not need to do deep packet inspections?
Which is not legal to do to your customers in the U.S. unless you have government permission?
Or am I wrong, did we allow this somewhere when we signed the contract?

It is in the TOS and in the end it is their network not public airwaves. If you tether and do not follow the TOS they have every right to cancel you. They also have every right to see what kinds of packets are passing through and where they are going to and coming from
There is no reasonable expectation of privacy on the internet. It is a common misconception

Thank you, so it is in the TOS.
Now do you think I can argue them into removing this block?
I already tried it and it seemed to be working but they never called me back.
My argument was that I want to be able to use Chrome for desktop 28 UA strings to always have a desktop view, and by them not allowing me that liberty I can not load certain websites to get the full experience on my Note 2.
"Your limiting my Note 2 not a tether!".
Think if I keep going they'll give me what I want? Or should I just give up and drop it?

I do not see them changing their business model concerning tethering based on that argument.
Background on DPI
Service providers obligated by the service-level agreement with their customers to provide a certain level of service and at the same time, enforce an acceptable use policy, may make use of DPI to implement certain policies that cover copyright infringements, illegal materials, and unfair use of bandwidth. In some countries the ISPs are required to perform filtering, depending on the country's laws. DPI allows service providers to "readily know the packets of information you are receiving online—from e-mail, to websites, to sharing of music, video and software downloads".[8] Policies can be defined that allow or disallow connection to or from an IP address, certain protocols, or even heuristics that identify a certain application or behavior.

Ok, thanks for that info, so no threatening to sue (not that I would do that.) And I did indeed agree to this....damn.
I was going to try to give them some BS about being a website designer needing to test my sites with different UA to test for compatibility.
You know, any bullocks someone who isn't tech savy would believe. I mean I was getting somewhere in the store until the manager (he was so confused) decided to call support and they put me off for 3 days. Today is Day 3. If I cant convince them today, I will give up and continue to use the stupid Opera UA.
Thanks again, now I know what I'm working with.
Isn't it true that you can tether/hotspot if you root? I have no block.
Also, with reference to the "desktop experience", have you tried Puffin?

It's not necessarily that they are just watching packets, but when your IP is sent out over certain channels it sets off a flag. Simple programming stuff:
Code:
("If UA=X, then Run "UpgradeService.Script")
It's because when you tether the traffic by default (it's in framework-res.apk) is pc.tmobile.com and that is not the main APN that is used by the phone itself. Strings need to be modified so that APN is replaced with the regular data APNs for it to be undetectable.

If you successfully connect to the internet on your tethered device without the Upsell redirect I think your good. It seems like that's the only block. I found a UA that isn't blocked and gives a desktop view all the time, I can pm it to you if you like. I've been using it for about 4 days now with no issues also I've pulled 53GB so far with no limiting or throttling. I never did go back to the store or call their support.
