I was rooting my phone earlier. I successfully rooted it, but when I started to install the ROM, it froze when it was near completion. When I booted it back up, it froze at the My Touch logo. I have tried factory reset, hard reset, all that. I could probably return it back to stock if I could enable USB-Debugging, but I can’t access the phone if it freezes up at the logo screen. Is there any way to enable it through Fastboot, Bootloader, or any other method? I tried reformatting the SD card but it won’t read in the adapter. If there is no way to fix it, I’ll just return back to T-Mobile and get it replaced. If I do end up taking it back to the store, do I have to bring my SD and SIM card with me? Sorry for all of the questions. Try to answer as much as you can. Thanks in advance for the answers.

Can you access clockworkmod recovery at all?
edit: nvrmind, try finding another sd card and place the engineering build on it, then boot in the bootloader that says "fastboot, recovery etc etc"
you can find the engineering release here http://www.4shared.com/file/OsmF_ZD7/ESPRIMG.html
thanks ill try it right now
do i need to rename this file or just leave it as is
Keep the file name the same, and once u boot in that bootloader, the bootloader will automatically install the file. After its done installing, reboot the phone.

Alright
1) Check if the file is 137 megabytes (to see if the file completely downloaded)
2) Check if your SD card is corrupt and needs to be formated (as fat32)
3) Also be sure you place the file at the root of your SD card (do not put esprimg.zip inside a folder)
4) Be sure you did NOT extract the zip because your not supposed to extract its contents.
If none of these work/help please post back
Ok I did all these step above and I reformatted the SD card to fat 32 then its starts loading but when its done its said MAIN VERSiON IS OLDER

Well im not sure if there is a newer version of that file...hmm since you got your sd card to read on your fone, now u have the ability to enter clockworkmod recovery.
1) Place this "update.zip" on your sd card http://www.mediafire.com/?s4eopbn5smkyen6
2) open the bootloader then press recovery
3) it should show a picture of a phone with a red exclamation mark
4)volume up and power button on that screen
5) press apply sdcard:update.zip
you should now be in clockworkmod recovery and from there you should know what to do
So should I remove the esprimg.zip then put the update.zip by itself in the SD card

Yeah you can go ahead and remove that. The only files that should be on the SD card are "update.zip" and whatever rom u want 2 install
when i press recovery its jumped to splash screeen again and its keeps frozen there

Ok I'll help you out here. Search for "slide ROM bible". In there is a link to the thread telling people how to flash the ENG build. It's broken down barney style so it's easy to understand. Most of the stuff you see flashing up is normal and the version difference is normal too, you have to do something special to make it work. So read it, love it, worship it. It's the bible for this phone.
Btw, you're phone isn't bricked. If it were, you wouldn't even get to the splash screen - let alone fastboot and recovery. Trust me, I have a few paperweights so I know a brick when I see it.
One last thing, flashing the clockwork recovery update.zip WILL NOT WORK UNLESS YOU HAVE ALREADY FLASHED THE ENG BUILD. That's why it failed. Flashing a custom rom won't work either. The only way to do it without the ENG build is via adb and catching it in recovery, very hard task. The ENG build resolves that and removes the signature check allowing you to flash things without adb.
hi . honesty i dont know what to do
do you have any link for this bible rom
I've been tryin 2 get him 2 work the eng build but It didn't work 4 him. Hopefully u can help KCRic

Here is the link on how to flash the ENG build. Make sure you know where the ENG build zip is after you download it, I suggest putting it in your android sdk tools directory (less typing). Then follow the instructions and you should be up in running in no time. Let me know if you have any ?'s.
Oh, this is the link to the youtube tutorial, thought it might help.

Is there a way to unroot your phone without USB? My charging port is no longer working properly and a replacement is being sent to me. The phone will not connect to my computer anymore. Can someone please help me. Thank you.
If you used unrevoked forever, download this:
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/current/unrevoked-forever-son.zip
Put it on your SD card (using a card reader)
If not (say you used the original ENG HBOOT root method), skip the above.
Download any of the RUUs that work with your phone (latest would be safest)
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Supersonic
Run the RUU (once it comes up with a screen warning you about possible consequences), search C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Temp\{series of characters}\{another series of characters} (assuming you are in windows vista or 7, otherwise path is c:\documents & settings\<your username>\Application Data\Local\Temp\{series of characters}\{another series of characters})
From there, grab rom.zip, rename to PC36IMG.zip (capitalization matters) and put it on SD card as well (using a card reader)
Exit the RUU utility (click "Cancel")
Reboot into recovery, flash unrevoked-forever-son.zip first (if you used unrevoked forever for root)
Reboot into bootloader (Vol Down + Power from phone off state), flash PC36IMG.zip when prompted
You are done

Yes. If you flash an old Rom, then install an OTA update via Sprint, that should unroot your phone.

If you are flashing something other than official sprint rom, as of around 3.29+ most have forced disabled updates through HTC menu so that newbies don't accidentally take it and kill their root.
Why not just do what I detailed? If you didn't use unrevoked, you just need the PC36IMG.zip and you are set.

The image I downloaded from post #11 didn't work. I tried renaming it PC36IMG.zip and PC36IMG. It says no image or wrong image.
You don't flash a pc36img.zip.
It automatically loads through bootloader. Not recovery.
Just put it in root directory of your sd.
Power up while holding vol down. When asked, say yes to load update. You never go into recovery.

how do i get hboot to use the zip file instead of the other cwm recovery because its not working. Also do i have to name the zip anything?
You put it on the root of your SD card and boot into hboot by booting while holding power and volume down. It will automatically find the file and ask you if you want to flash it. It has to be name PB31IMG.zip
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
My phone did not automatically reconize the file in hboot when I named it PB31IMG.zip. So I went to the Verizon store. They're sending me a new phone but i would still like to get this one to work because they let me keep it. I'm probably going to send it to a guy that can rewrite the software. However since Im running low on money I probably wont send it in for a while so if anyone notices anything i didnt or thinks they know the problem, please let me know. Thank you
cvbcbcmv said:
it's probably PB31IMG.zip.zip. Try getting rid of the .zip and see if your extracting program will still recognize it, if yes, it has a hidden .zip, and keep it like that, if no, then you need the zip there. Can you do that for me? That's probably your problem.

Yes, this happened to me early on. You ususally don't see the extension (the .zip) part of the file name, so when you add it you are creating a file named PB31IMG.zip.zip. So like the good person above says, just make it say PB31IMG and it will likely be fixed. If not, THEN make it say PB31IMG.zip
Good luck!
Yes got it. Wow that was frustrating. Thank you so much everyone who helped me

So, you've seen those new Sense 3.0 ROMs floating around, but haven't had an opportunity to try them yet? Well, I've developed a simplified method for getting you rolling with Virtuous Unity 1.31. Of course, after you have installed the DZ Hboot, you can install any Sense 3.0 ROM you wish, even though this guide is specifically for Unity.
This guide will show you how to install the DZ Hboot, and the Virtuous Unity ROM, with out using adb or a computer. The entire process is done on the phone.
First, let me thank the Virtuous dev team responsible for this gem of a ROM. Excellent work, and we tip our hats.
Now, this installation requires the following:
A rooted G2 with Clockwork Recovery 3.0.2.4.
Two MicroSD cards.
Optional: WiFi access, Tapatalk and Opera Mobile, installed internally. Opera makes downloading the required files much more reliable, and it can be easier using TT to browse this page.
The first thing you should do is stop by www.VirtuousRom.com, and check things out there. The Unity ROM and the OC frequency patch come from their website, and I firmly believe in giving credit where it is due.
Once you are ready to begin, download Unity 1.31 from this link, preferably via WiFi. This beast is about 400MBs, so be you may not want to deal with cellular speeds. You can also find this ROM on RomManager, if you prefer, under the Virtuous tab.
http://www.multiupload.com/TS4IAWJVMZ
Once that has finished, you should download the OC Frequency patch. You may not need it, but you definitely want to have it already downloaded if it is needed.
http://unity.flemmard.net/patches/virtuous_unity-ocfreq-patch.zip
You will also want to download a good radio to use, since the DZ Hboot will overwrite your current radio. This is the most current compatible radio:
http://www.mediafire.com/?r1tal256p11uzyz
Once you have finished downloading these files, use a file manager (ES File Manager or Astro, etc) to check the SDCard root (/sdcard/) to make sure there is no file named PC10IMG.zip located there. I'll explain why shortly. After you have confirmed this, shut off your phone, remove the battery, remove the SDCard, and insert the second card. Replace the battery, and reboot.
After the phone is running again, you need to download this file: http://db.tt/uCHeUDp If the link stops working, please PM me so I can upload the file to an alternative service, as this is from my personal Dropbox.
When the download finishes, use a file manager, and find /download/DZHboot_PC10IMG.zip. Copy/paste it to the root of your SDCard, and then rename it PC10IMG.zip.
A quick word about PC10IMG.zip: this file, when present on the root of your SDCard, will automatically be read by your bootloader. We want this to update your HBoot. However, the reason we DO NOT want a PC10IMG on the first card is because this file also prevents the bootloader from being able to enter recovery. This is why this method requires two cards. One to flash the HBoot, and one to enter recovery to flash a ROM. Once the HBoot flashes, it will wipe your phone, so you must have a ROM or backup to get it working again.
Reboot your phone into bootloader. If you have 3/4 way reboot, simply hold the power button while the phone is on, select reboot/restart, and select bootloader. If you do not have this feature, shut the phone off, then hold volume down+camera key, then press power. The bootloader will scan for updates, and will then prompt you if you wish to apply the update. Press volume up to accept this prompt. Do not turn the phone off or remove the battery while this process is engaged! When it is complete, you will be prompted to reboot the phone. Do so. You will notice that your phone is "stuck" at the white HTC bootsplash, even if you have flashed a different splash image. This is normal.
Remove the battery. Remove the SDCard, and insert the first card. Boot into the bootloader, and then volume-down to recovery, and press power. While the phone has technically been "wiped", there is the possibility of remaining bits of info in the memory, so it is good practice to perform a complete wipe. Scroll down to "mounts and storage", and select the following options: "format /cache, format /data, and format /system." DO NOT format /sdcard!!!
Now press the back key to return to the main screen, and select "install a .zip from SDCard". You can find Virtuous Unity in the /download folder if you downloaded from your web browser, or /clockworkmod/downloads/ if you used RomManager. Select the Unity zip file, and install it. Once this is done, press the back key to the main menu, select "reboot device".
Once the G2 has started up, you may experience lockups. This is a known bug with the G2 related to overclocking. If it happens, reboot into bootloader, enter the recovery, and flash /download/virtuous_unity-ocfreq-patch.zip. This should fix the problem!
Last step: open a file manager, and find the radio file you downloaded earlier. It should be in /download, and is a .zip named Vision Radio 12.56.60.25 26.10.04.03 PC10IMG.zip. Copy/Paste to the root of your SDCard (which we can do now that the phone is working again!) And then rename it PC10IMG.zip Reboot one last time into bootloader, and again press volume up to accept the update. When it is done, reboot the phone as prompted. Delete the PC10IMG.zip files from the root of each SDCard, and you are done! Enjoy!
Hope you find this helpful!
EDIT: Updated the DB link to the Hboot.

Perhaps it didn't download properly. Reboot and re download. Delete previous version and move new DZ hboot to the root (not in any folders) of your SD. Be sure you've named it PC10IMG.zip and not PC10IMG.zip.zip. The zip part is added automatically so you shouldn't need to enter it yourself. Then reboot into bootloader and try again.

So your purpose is to obtain the DZ eng hboot without using a PC... meaning without ADB, right? Because there are other ways to do this... they require a PC, but if it's that important to you you should download the Android SDK.
There's a really clear/great guide here.
Maybe contact some of the Virtuous guys like cjward23... he's really knowledgable. I don't know why in the world the file isn't being recognized by your phone.
One strange thing I encountered... my phone wouldn't recognize the PC10IMG file unless I booted into bootloader from the phone off, using volume down + power button. This may have been a fluke, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

I am not sure which version of the pc36img file I have. I used it about a month ago, now it doesn't work
I would download a new ruu to update in boot loader make sure its for the evo 4g and has your hboot version

This is sprint lovers rom its kinda outdated but when you get your phone working you can get a better rom if you want ok so heres how to install it
you have to put the file on the root of your sdcard and it should already be named pc36img then once its in the sdcard You put your phone to bootloader by pressing vol down and power button then let it scan and it will ask you to update hit yes and let it do its thing
Tell me how it turns out
Hope it works

wait, stop, time out: all you did was lose recovery. download THIS file and put it on the root of your SD card (not in any folders). boot up with power+vol- and let the phone update. when it asks if you wanna reboot say no and then go to recovery. you now will have working recovery to flash away with.
U sure cuz when I lost recovery I could still boot up

Ijust tried your file paranoiA but it still will not boot up.

Not sure what to do here...
I rooted this G2 earlier this evening and decided I wanted Cyanogenmod 7 as the rom.
I flashed Clockworkmod and installed the rom and then gapps directly after without rebooting, I'm not sure if that screwed it up. Anyway, now I'm in a boot loop.
I held volume down and power and can get in to that screen but it won't seem to let me select fastboot. I just noticed earlier when I plug it in with the power off it will open up Clockworkmod Recovery but after a few seconds the screen goes dark and whatever process began, stops.
When I do open it up with volume down + power it automatically starts up hboot after a few seconds and examines the froyo rom (PC10IMG) I still have on my SD card (at least I assume that's the one it's looking at) and it says the "main version is older / Update fail"
Also on the recovery screen (volume down + Power) it previous said s-off and now it's back to s-on. I think I can get access to adb btw.
I looked through the threads but I couldn't seem to find a definitive answer so I apologize in advance if I didn't scour them as well as I should have. Thanks for any help you can offer!
Sounds like you let your pc10img.zip run again, what method did you use to root? Write down everything on your bootloader screen

I used the adb method. I downgraded from GB to Froyo and then used the adb commands here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834228) to perm root. I had a stable root after that was all said and done it just went in to the boot loop after I installed Cyanogenmod and the Gapps.
After the boot loop began it DID re-run the pc10img.zip Or well, I should say, I, re-ran it
I downloaded the RUU but I didn't attempt it because I figured I've already gotten myself in enough trouble as it is.
stuck in boot loop
Oh yeah, here's exactly what the bootloader screen says.
It fires up and gives the normal options although it won't scroll down to any of them besides Hboot and it auto selects Hboot.

Yeah you are in tough place right now, never heared of the bootloader you have and the method you used to root can be dangerous, hopefull we can still use clockwork. Remove the pc10img.zip from sdcard and try to boot to hboot and then choose recovery, see if it lets you flash a rom

I removed the pc10img.zip from the SD card and NOW the bootloader allows me to actually make selections. I chose recovery and it went right in to Clockworkmod.
I tried to reflash Cyanogenmod 7 and it seemed to work but it is still in the boot loop. I think the reason it didn't go through correctly was because my phone is now s-on? when I originally rooted it and attempted to flash it, it was s-off. I am beginning to understand the scope of the problem here.
Would it be possible to download a t-mobile stock recovery rom image and flash that with clockworkmod? never tried that before.
Or, should I use the RUU, hope it works and start from scratch?
Or some other option that's beyond me.
Thanks for your help! This isn't my main phone and I was merely rooting it as a backup/experimental phone. I'd rather not have a paper weight but we shall see I guess. Thanks again!
I rooted my other G2 with the described method and it worked like a charm but for future reference is there any safer method available?
See the xda wiki for the proper root method, at this point you should try and flash an ruu through fastboot and start from scratch with the downgrade and root via gfree (xda wiki)

So just so I have it straight - root the phone first and then try and flash a stock rom through fast boot? Not sure if that's possible because I'm not sure if I have access to usb debug but I'll check and get back.
I downloaded the RUU from the htc website. Should I just follow the instructions included with that program?
Thanks for the advice!
Start with ruu, if it lets you return to stock great, then move on to the xda wiki, here it will link you to downgrade instructions and then go back to wiki to root and soff via gfree
