Those are the speeds I get on 3uk, indoor!

Nice! I am getting 3.5mbps down in the office, but the signal is never great here. I will try again when home and post again. Certainly seems very snappy.
It is indeed, also the ping is bellow 100ms! Not bad 3
Goodness that's miles better than I just ran on Orange UK. Glad I've jumped ship to vodafone. I'll wait to see if they are any better.

Wow! That's as fast as my ADSL broadband! Can't wait for mine to arrive (Handtec order) as I am on Three too. I know HSPA+ covers my house as well

I am! I don't know how Three are able to sell genuinely all-you-can-eat data for just £3 a month. I've heard stories of people torrenting into the hundreds of gigabytes in a month and nothing happened!

£3 a month?! I get it on the £15 PAYG plan (which is amazing - love not worrying about data).
I'm on an old £14 a month 2Gb data contract. I rarely go over 300Mb but with HSPA+ I can see myself using more! Good job ICS has data threshold warnings and limits built in!
Mobile Data plan with out any limit? Damn, that's something I can just dream off here in germany. We get the speed throttled down to gprs after 500mb-1gb with common data plans.
But the speed seems to be really great. Joshua from theverge mentioned this also in their last vergecast episode. He said he got 1.5-2mbps more than with his iPhone and never had such a good/fast data connection with a smartphone before.
Hmm, I'm on Three's The One Plan in London, and I just tested my phone using the speed test...but I'm getting between 0.3 to 0.4 mbps!
Is there some sort of settings that I can tweak to get better speeds?
My current T mobile plan is: Unlimited Minutes, Unlimited Text, and Unlimited Data (2GB of 4g, then throttled) for $79.99/month, plus a discount, so I pay $78 every month.
Now I never looked at Verizon plans because I have always heard they were so much more expensive.. so tonight I decide to look into it.. and I don't know If I am looking at them wrong or what..
But I see a plan.. SHARE EVERYTHING UNL TALK & TEXT 4GB $70 0612
Which I would read as Unlimited Minutes, Unlimited Text, and 4GB of LTE/4G Data for $70???
Is this correct or what? If it is that means I can get more with Verizon for less than T-Mobile? OR am I not seeing some extra fees and what not?
and BTW, with the 2GB on T mobile, I never go over, the most I used was about 1.8GB a month.. so I don't need unlimited data.
I just made a plan through their mobile website and it looks like they charge an extra $40 per smartphone on top of the plan price. The total for a 4Gb plan would be $110.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Their "share everything" plans are a great concept, but you probably overlooked the device fee ($40 per smartphone).
They charge a fixed fee for each device that ties into it, and then all devices share all data/voice/text allotments and you simply purchase enough for your combined usage.
It's a great concept for families where everyone uses just a little more than one tier gives them and so instead of all of them having to pay for the next higher tier, they can aggregate and their average ends up with a cheaper combined tier. As an example, if they have a tier at 500MB and everyone uses 600-700MB then they might all have to individually upgrade to the 2GB plan. But, if they combine then they can get away with a single 2GB amongst 3 family members.
One of the big benefits for individual users is that you can share data between your smartphone and your tablet and the tablet only had a $10 fee to buy in. Typically you access things on your tablet or your smartphone, so the usage on both is usually not much higher than the usage on a single plan with one device. Essentially, you could probably get a tablet and add it to your plan for only $10 a month total.
But, at $40 per smartphone I'm not sure how much of a boon it is for families compared to the "add a tablet for $10/month" scenario.
Wow! That's a joke! 40$ a month just because you're using one of their devices, that doesn't even make sense.
So after all the mobile is cheaper
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yea the plans are REALLY deceptive. I think it's $30 per dumbphone and $40 per smart ON TOP of the $70 for the plan. So even when you share with a flip it's almost like adding a whole nother plan. Tmo is cool because you can add lines and NOT give them data/texting.
Yes, Verizon works well if you have three phones and not much data, ie two people is $75 per person shared 4GB. But for three smartphones it would be $64 for 4GB shared. t-mo is cheaper, but omg you better like edge and gprs even.

Actually, I guess it's all depending on your market. I never have any issues anywhere around the Minneapolis area.

Uhhh.. grandfathered with data for one phone 2GB and two flips was $140, shared plan was $170. I went with tmo for $95.
Ohh you said PER PERSON. The difference is huge still.
Yeah I'll just stay away from them. To get the same plan with Verizon that I have with the mobile it would be 100$ plus tax... And right now I pay 78.
When I renew my contract I'll most likely get the 500mins (I checked my bills for the last three months and I never go over) unlimited text and unlimited 4G for 79.99$.
Orrr I might switch to simple mobile... Unlimited everything 50$ a month and they use the t mobile towers. I've had them before and had no problems.

Verizon is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Sprint is probably cheaper than Tmobile for the most part + unlimited, but it's very deceptive advertising as their LTE is hardly rolled out anywhere. Their 3G is almost like Dialup too. Just keep Tmobile.

I've used Sprint for years and their data is PAINFULLY slow. Even "4g" was giving me 1ish Mbps. I switched to VZW and the service is awesome but the cost is really bothering me. I'm currently on VZW paying $75.00 a month for 4gigs of data 450min and 1000 text messages. Every month I go over in texts and it pushes me to $80ish
I just ordered a S2 from Tmo and I'm going to check out the $30.00 prepaid for a couple of weeks to see how well the service compares to VZW. Upon telling my boss this he laughed and told me Tmo sucks in our area and he just switched to VZW from Tmo so I might be stuck on VZW for the forseable future.

I would switch to Verizon but they are just too expensive. 2gb data unlimited mins and text=100$ plus tax.
On tmobile I get that for 78$. And don't have to worry about over fees because t mobile just throttles you. The highest speed test I got was 30mb. But average is 10mb and about 2.5 up

If you want cheap T-Mobile is the way to go. The 2 line unlimited plan for $99 cant be beat, unless you go prepaid. But you probably wouldn't be in the s3 forums if you were wanting prepaid.
If you haven't, try to see if you can get any work discounts. It would probably help a bit on costs.
Lol don't know why people make such a big stink over Verizon. I had them for the last 8-9 years and I switched to Tmobile. It was easier than expected honestly. Sure their network isn't as good as Verizon but it's not so distinctly different where if you put the same phone and did a Web browsing test that someone would tell a difference. If I am downloading a huge rom then it's noticeable but for forum surfing and websites (don't do much more than that at work since... Well I'm working lol and I have wifi at home) its just fine.
It's funny because if you knew me then you would know this doesn't sound like me because I am a spec freak... Also it isn't the cost that bothers me. I work 60 hours a week and I can afford Verizon its just the lack of value. Maybe it's because Verizon doesn't give a **** about its customers and they don't try to hide it. Maybe it's because I do work so many damn hours and if I don't see value in my spending I won't buy it. Idk. Either way I'm thrilled with Tmobile and have no reason to go back. Also, I'm in a sort of crappy Tmobile area where everywhere around me gets 5-25mbs and I'm in the one patch that gets less than 2 lol

Just wondering if anyone inside the US is doing a straight talk prepaid plan with a Note II. I really want to know what the best route to do this is. Such as where to get the phone, and how to transfer the number. Thanks in advance people!

And be sure to port your number at the time of activation. I thought it was a two-step process and activated WITHOUT porting and they had to send me a new SIM, as its only good for 1 activation. BUT the good news is, they quickly answered my call & resolved my issue hassle free...i was worried having dealt with Cricket in the past, but this Straight Talk is the real deal, been happy as a clam for 5 mos with them. It was only me on the plan so my savings from AT&T is like $70.00 a mo, but the way i see it, Straight Talk paid for my Galaxy Note II with money leftover ST: $45x24 mos=$1080.00 + $725.00 cost of phone = $1805.00 ATT: $120x24=$2880.00 +$299 Cost of phone = 3099.00 Savings $1294.00
If you can give up LTE (i could) and walk-in service its a no brainer oh yeah - and 15.00 for activation, don't wanna redo all the math but just deduct $15 from total savings : )
Since G-Note II takes micro-sim and had to take a deep breath when i put the SIM in the cutter (purchased from e-bay $5.00) becuase if i had screwed it up i would had to wait for a new SIM but it went off without a hitch. As soon as i keyed in the APN of my Samsung Infuse, i had my lil H+ signal and was good to go....
Also, just a heads up to anyone who thinks 2 GB (approx 100MB a day) is not enough data, for me, i have 3 G watchdog set to disable data at 80% for 100MB a day and it has never come close to the limit... i use my internet on phone to search about 50 to 60 sites a day... One word of caution tho, if you land on a page that "automatically plays a video ad", you need to pause that sucker because that alone with eat up approx 1MB for each second or so it plays. All those ads have a pause button, but you have to hover over the ad to get it to appear.... : )

Honestly they vary between 2MB and 6MB down, i never pay attn to up, but completely consistant connection. In the 5 mos i ve had them, never once have i had data connection drop. Since streaming & downloading videos isn't permitted anyway, just unlimited site surfing, those speeds are more than ample....
Many ppl don't realize if you select an AT&T Sim, Straight Talk will only only use AT&T towers, (At&t allows them to use them for a cost and then Straight Talk re-harvests them out, so to speak....) so if AT&T's coverage is good in ur area and you just need internet for surfing and emails and maybe maintaining your Instagram acct, you're golden : )

Two gigs is more than enough for me. On AT&T gophone, I used 2 gigs in a little over 3 months doing heavy use ( for my use its heavy at least). People don't realize, forums like tapatalk and apps don't use that much data. When u do that you're good to go.

2GB really can be a lot more than MOST ppl need which is why they are doing so well. Cutting a cell phone bill in half as they advertise is worth it to a lot of ppl to reign in their data consumption. I know for me i just wait till i'm on wi-fi to upload or watch my vids and i'm good.
And not having to deal with a cell phone company everrrrrrrr is awesome. I just have S.T. on autopay and 3G Data Watchdog installed set with a DAILY 100MB limit to alert me when i reach 75% (in 5 months i have never reached that limit) and i never think about either one : )
Hi,
I have the Sprint Note II in my hands now and have till tomorrow to return it. I am thinking of switching to T-Mobile. I LOVE this phone.
I am only worried about differences in the phone (if there are any negatives) and of course coverage and speeds. I hear T Mob has some great speeds but not when you travel out of major cities. Anyone with experience of both carriers?
I love that Tmob is GSM since I do travel int. And I can get a small bus plan so my bill is only $50/month compared to $70 w Sprint. Plus, you get free hotspot and I don't need to root to get free tethering.
As far as phone, are there any major differences? Is T Mob usually behind on updates as I've had Multi Window since I bought the phone on the 4th?
Anything else you can tell me? BTW, my battery is phenomenal. I am sitting on almost 2 days of battery usage. Same for T Mob?
Thanks for any answers!!

I just made the switch and sold my Sprint Note 2 before switching to Tmobile. The phones are essentially the same, however, the Tmobile version comes with WiFi calling.
The only regret I have is not switching sooner. The data and voice is amazing and the prices are much cheaper than Sprint.

There are more ROM options because many are pulled from ATT or the international version. Battery life is about the same. Multi Window is available on some ROMS but Tmobile hasn't officially been updated yet.

1 T-Mobile runs on a GSM network, So 3g speeds are pretty same as Sprint's LTE speeds. As because it's not true 4g but still faster in some cases.
2 because it is a GSM network the battery life is far superior.
3 has a SIM card
4 is possibly even cheaper in the store depending on if the running a sale or not. Before T-Mobile had it for 199 rebate so you pay the 300 but get a mail in rebate for 100.
5 I have checked both coverage maps from Sprint and T Mobile and to be honest are pretty much the same only in certain places 1 another might be better or not. All on T-Mobile note 2 forum as well.
by the way the free tethering 1 Will throttle you verses on the nation 4g without the tethering.

They still have the $100 rebate. They will also give me a $200 per line credit for switching over to the business plan. So the phone will cost me $460 tax included. I paid $320 for it from Sprint but my plan is $20 more a month which obviously adds up over the years.
I did check the coverage map and there's the rub. I live in Hawaii. Honolulu is great for either service. BUT, I also used to live on Kauai and still have a condo there so I visit often and could move back eventually and the service is 2G there! Yikes. But, I don't see me going back for a couple years at minimum for long term stay so if the service still sucks then, maybe I switch to someone else if I do move back.
Can you explain the free tethering throttle? I heard it's after 5GB which is enough for me. Thanks!
BTW, Thanks for the responses. I returned the Note II to Sprint last night and will likely be joining T Mob today!

See i get 23% discount for Sprint, ATT, Verizon, but none for T-Mobile so for me its actually cheaper on sprint we pay $209.76 for 1500 Shared minutes(land-lines), Any Mobile to Mobile, Unlimited text, Unlimited Data. TEP on 3 Note 2's. for T-Mobile i would have to pay $245+ for same setup pretty much we pay about $5K every 2 years. T-Mobile would be $6K

Yeah they have a 5GB and 10GB of No throttling with WiFi Tethering hotspot, but if you go over than its Throttled. Whereas 4G Nationwide plan its all unlimited and you can simply get a wifi hotspot tether app for free.

I got 24% discount from Sprint so that's why I was at $70. With my small bus plan with T Mob, I'll be at $50.
Thanks for the info, but I don't go over 5GB anyway, so I'll be fine.
As far as tethering on Sprint for free, I had to root my EVO. I like that I don't even have to root or hack T Mob and have hotspot for free and get the GSM without doing all these mods I've been reading about on Sprint so you can try to insert a SIM.
But hey, we all have different needs and you're stoked with Sprint. I was with them for 15 years so I am sorta sad to leave haha. All I care about is coverage and if it's as good or better than Sprint, I think I'll be a happy camper!

yep i feel ya, used to be with VZW forever because i lived in Rochester, NY basically 4-6 Hours away from NYC. and that was pretty much best at the time up there and most reliable. but we moved to North Carolina and sprint was okay and much cheaper lol
I don't know if there will be any different prices with LTE. I would doubt it because my understanding is that it would be more efficient.

Once you hit your cap, if you have one, they reduce your speed. Having said that, your throttled speed would be most likely faster than Sprint anyway.

T Mobile throttles your speed at 2g speeds. 2g on T-Mobile is slow. Atleast on 3g with Sprint it's getting better and faster.

That's all relative. 3G for me with Sprint was, .02 kbps down and about the same down. It's been that way for over a year now.

I have a cap at 5GB but even when using Sprint for tethering and all that stuff I never even hit 3GB of data. I can pay $5 more if needed and I believe it is unlimited.
I did get a little bit of disappointment just now, because I am doing the business value plan, I don't get the $100 mail in rebate.
I do get $200 though for switching over, but the idea of getting $300 was really nice.

anyone have this phone with Tmobile in Southern California in the SGV or Inland empire area?
hows the service , call quality , internet speeds
I'm in the Ventura area, calls are good but data is spotty. Best I have gotten in speed is 8Mbps. I only tried it for a month and then switched back to ATT.

what was your average speed?
thanks for the reply.
Anyone else especially some one more closer to the IE or SGV
I'm much more south... In OC. It's great. Data is routinely 10Mbps+ and has hit 23+ on multiple occasions

ok so definately leaving Sprint then im tired of the 3g speeds. 4g Wimax is not available everywhere and dont want a new phone with them cause 4g LTE is not even avalaible in my area ...
on average 3g speeds are 512kbps upto 1mbps.....
I'm from both those areas, 626 and the ie for half the week. Everything seems to be working great and have no problems at all. I have yet to download a big file over data so I have no speeds for you other than it is spotty at times.

Just saw your post lol. For sure speeds are in the MB and not kb hahaha its like your back in the dark ages of 56k. I have terrible dsl in the 626 and sometimes just use my phones data for the computer and it'd be faster.

i currently have a Sprint epic touch (sgs2) and when im in the 626 area i have good data speeds since there is wimax there but when i come back to the IE its very slow. Thats why i want to switch but i want something reliable and good speeds hate wanting to check something online and sometimes its so slow that ill make back to the office before i am able to find out on my phone....
Many people have told me to stay away from t-mobile cause bad service slow speeds but a friend came over with a my touch htc phone and slowest speed he was getting was 3mb in the same area i was getting KB's

Great choice.
I just left Sprint last week and joined T-Mobile. Speeds are faster everywhere that I've traveled to. Only spot that I was having trouble with was around Staples Center.
I'm in the OC for the most part though, no troubles. Even in my work office I get fast speeds. Sprint just pissed me off with the slow 3G lol.
I left Sprint Sero back in May and have not looked back, my worst day on TMobile was way ahead of my best day on Sprint. Sadly the $30/month plan did not cut it for me so I moved on. I still don't regret going prepaid.
I live in the san fernando valley, I work in SGV, Alhambra, Montebello, OC and Irvine.
I get a good 10mbs-20mbs

I am...First, the plan it's not new anymore...Second, it is TRULLY unlimited,
there is no throtlling of any kind.
The only thing is that you can't tether with stock Rom.

hey another question i have is Tmobile doesnt do subsidized phones anymore right?
so if the price is advertised as $300 but full phone price is say $500.. do you
1) pay the $300 upfront and then pay the remaining balance little bit by lil bit every month apart from your bill?
2) just pay the $300 and thats it? (well obviously on both you still have to pay the taxes of the phone gotta love the CA tax.)
I ask cause the sales rep kind of confuse me and some will tell you whatever they need to say in order to make the sale

Number 1 is correct and you will pay $20 per month (on top of your bill), until is all paid off.
However, number 2 should also be available with some different (than mine) contracts.

so only difference from signing the 2yr contract and going prepaid with them is if you have the money all upfront you dont have to sign a contract
oh prepaid doesnt get roaming though right?

I've use my phone all the time inside an older fort-like building(my job) and haven't had an issue yet with calls dropping out or bad reception but I've only had the service for 2 weeks. I'm on the $70 unlimited plan, my current data usage for this month is 5gb and it hasn't slowed down one bit(it's unlimited after all).

knew it wasnt all beautiful things with tmobile but for the most part not bad .
Ok now that the S4 , htc one are out.. I think im going with the Note 2 i can get them both out of contract but AT&T versions for $300 or maybe less , tried looking for the Tmobile version and there still in the $400 area.. Ive read that you could just unlock it and use the ATT version on Tmobile that is true correct?
If anyone else wants to reply with how their service is with Tmobile in the Southern CAL area please do..
My concerns are still Voice reception, clarity of call, and decent data connection dont need high speed just a good 1.5mb down ( i know thats not high but compared to sprint its lightning fast)
I use my phone for work so i use it heavily so have to have a reliable connection
