Face it, why do we need screen protectors? To protect the screen from our pointy fingers? No. To protect it when we drop heavy objects on our EVO's? Lol, if you are doing that a screen protector wont help. To protect the screen if we drop the phone? That's what the case is for.
So why? The #1 reason we use screen protectors is to prevent scratching the glass when we put the phone in our pockets.
If you are like me and use a silicone case, that screen protector gets pretty scuffed up coming in and out of your pocket and lint sticks like crazy to the case.
Walking through the mall today I stopped by the sunglasses vestibule. There for $4 there were selling these little soft sunglass pouches made of microfiber. I thought hmmmm, pulled out my EVO, dropped it in and put it in my pocket.
No scratches, no lint and I can polish finger marks off the screen just by rubbing the inside of the pouch against it. Also, instead of struggling to grasp the phone, I just grab the top of the pouch and pull it out.
Anyway, now I can have my phone in my pocket without worrying about lint or scratches and I have a carry-along polishing cloth right there.
You can probably buy one of these at any mall. Give it a try.

I knew when I posted this people would rag on me, but seriously, it really does work.
of course it would...wrapping your phone in plastic wrap would probably yield the same results..
my girlfriend has been doing it this way the whole time she's had her evo. her hero just rolled around in her purse and got all scratched up. so for two days I didn't let her purse it. then we found this method works awesome.

Except for the fact that it would be incredibly impractical and look like hell. On the other hand this method is EXTREMELY practical and looks great. lol, can you imagine removing your phone from plastic wrap every time you wanted to use it? ** Fail **

Yep, I only wish those who are making fun of my idea would actually try it:
1) No more scratches on your screen, screen protector or phone body.
2) No pocket lint stuck all over your case.
3) Much easier to take out of your pocket (even in skinny jeans).
4) Super easy way to wipe the oil slick off your screen.
5) Much easier to remove from the pouch than from a snug fitting leather case.
6) Slimmest possible pocket solution.
Oh well, if they enjoy having their phones beat to hell that's not my problem.
Yeah I've known folks to put their phones in their glasses bag / pouch / sack. Not a bad idea and you do get a little touchscreen wipe as well. I usually use my shirt, soft material, to give it a quick clean.

Erm ...
Oh never mind.
Pete
The N1 came with a microfiber lined pouch. Worked just like the pouch you described. One of my favorite accessories for my N1. Wish the EVO had come with one.
I am using the little pouch that came with my MyTouch that is made of microfiber. The Evo fits(barely) and it does protect it like the OP says. I just got this EVO 2 days ago and am waiting for my invisableshield to come in the mail and am using this method until it arrives. It is a little inconvenient and the phone still could get scratched from the plastic thingy used to close the case if you are not careful, but all in all it works. By the way I got a full body invisible protector for free. I just paid something like $2.85USD for shipping. Great Deal!
Thanks for the positive replies. Since I have gotten my EVO purse (I feel like George Castanza) it is the first time I have been able to put my phone in my pocket and absolutely not worry for a second about scratching the screen.
Like Occam's Razor Theory says, "The simplest solution is usually the best".

Thanks op. Does anyone know who makes the N1 pouches? Maybe they have different ones for sale that say "HTC" on them.

Just go to your local mall and check out the carts where they sell sunglasses. They usually have lots of them to choose from for a few bucks.

Where I live, it is usually cold enough that you can wear a jacket. I always buy jackets with an inside pocket by my chest. As a result, I have a similar built in pouch in my jacket where the phone stays safe with nothing else touching it but material.
However, those 40 days where it's hot (in the 70's and low 80's), I have to find other ways...
I like to circumvent the entire dust issue by just using a holster.
Good idea, I've been doing this intermittently for months... Only bummer is that when the phone rings, you have to pull out from your pocket AND then out of the bag. The extra step has resulted in missed phone calls

Hey guys, i got this in a few days ago so I can verify it fits the MOTOROLA DROID X not the Samsung that the description says.
You can even tell by the part # that it is made for the DROID X. Why Verizon has it screwed up I dont know, but it is the ONLY face-in snap-in holster I have found.

That's the one I had, it's made by Amzer. It doesn't protect the top of the device either. Mine fell out of the holster and dinged up the top of my phone.

I have this one and hope it loosens up over time. Right now, it takes two hands to get the phone out of the holster because it's so tight. It works great for me though, no worrying about the phone falling out of the holster.

I work at an auto parts store so im constantly moving around, brushing up against greasy things or crawling under people's cars so I need some protection for my phone. How is the quality of the case?
Also, does the case wrap around the front of the phone? I mean if I lay the phone face down will the screen touch or will the case protect it?
Yes, the case does wrap around the front enough to keep the glass off the counter when you lay it down. Both the shell and the hoster are rigid with a rubberized feel.
It doesn't add a lot of bulk to the phone like some cases I've looked at, so the phone is pocketable when you want to go without the holster.
I picked mine up in my Verizon store, so would recommend you stop at one and ask to see it on an X.

Yes i have this holster. Just picked it up yesterday. And it seems secure and I liked the look and the feel of it in my hand. Just didn't like that it left the top of the phone exposed. In the holster its protected though. Its when you take it out it seems like it could possibly get dinged at the top of the phone if it fell. Otherwise it seems pretty cool. Im looking to see if someone comes out with a holster that includes complete coverage of the phone and holster combo. I think they didn't cover the top because the antenna is located there. Not sure but just a theory.

I bought this case with my phone the day it came out because I wanted protection immediately. It was the only case available so I got it. I've taken care of my phone diligently and the only scratches it has are from the stupid sprint carbon fiber case. Is there any way to get any compensation from sprint for buying this stupid case or am I just stupid or both?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
which carbon case do you have? I have the black carbon one with the kickstand and no scratches. Also there is no way that sprint will compensate you.
I have the one that schnergun has as well and I got it the day my phone came as well. So far the only scratch I have on the phone is from a drop (before I put the case on it) other then that it's been very nice.
And as above I really doubt Sprint is going to do anything about it. It's wear and tear as they will see it.

Yup... and I'm not one of those people. I have no issues with this case. Is OP taking it on and off too much? How would one see the scratches without doing so? Sounds like it IS wear and tear...
TPU Scratches
I just got the carbon fiber/kickstand case yesterday. But my TPU case I've used for the last two months has scratched the crap out of my GS2 edges. I miss the chrome edge and rubbery back of my OG Epic. Wish they would've used that on this phone.

Of course I'm taking it off from time to time. I do it to clean the damn phone. I know the scratches are from the case because there are 5 perfectly straight lines across the side of the phone. I'm pretty sure it happens when removing the case. I am now using the phone with no case because at least if I take care of the phone it won't get scratches. Maybe the cases aren't all built the same and i got a badly made one.
I also don't think my phone should get scratches for taking a case off too much. It's a damn case. It's supposed to protect the phone not scratch it if I decide to remove it as many times as I want.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I've had this case since I bought my phone, and I remove it multiple times a day (I have the desktop charger at work), there isn't a single scratch anywhere on my phone and the case is a nice, snug fit. Maybe you just got a bad case.
That's what I'm thinking.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
At best, the store will exchange it for another of the same case, maybe they'll look at letting you switch it for a different case of equal value or have you pay the difference for a higher value case. You can always just ask the store.
As far as compensation, you probably won't find anyone that can see the scratches as anything to compensate for. (What compensation do you expect? Are you looking for a bill credit or a new phone?) It's wear and tear, and unless it affects the functionality of the phone, they're not going to do anything about it.
I just use a skin on mine, since I use the car and desk docks, but I also don't drop my phone. Ever. So I don't worry about needing some kind of case for it.

Have you tried this one? http://www.tridenteer.com/products/Aegis-Case-for-Samsung-Epic-Touch-4G-(Black).html
I'm still on my TPU, and the comment about the TPU scratching the phone is kinda scary. None on mine yet, but I'll keep an eye out. The TPU is a great case, I'd just like I need a little more protection. I drop phones a little more often than some of you guys do. Put an Aegis on the Evo 3D, and was very impressed. Not missing Otter at all,... Otter who? Still, I'd like to hear what other GS2 users of the Aegis are feeling about the case. Just can't seem to find any GS2/Aegis users right now.
Hey guys
Switched from an Evo 3D and an Evo 4g to Epic Touch and I have been using cheap hard cases on all my phones including my new Epic Touch baby and never have any problems with them. My phones always look band new and no scratches. I only pay $6 at my local swap meet
I have had the case and phone since new with wrist strap. I also have a really annoying nic on the upper left where the case grabs onto the phone....sucks as it stands out cause it makes the phone have chrome nic....it would be nice if sprint would cover/credit the case cost back as it damaged the phone. Instead of doing this, I went got invisible shield and ballistic case. I couldn't be happy.
I'm just taking it as a loss....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I initially got the case cause I really needed protection asap, (somewhat of an idiot occasionally). BAD IDEA.
The Pro(s): light weight, thin, kickstand
The Con(s): lightweight, flimsy, cheaply made, really expensive, minimal protection.
I have sense upgraded to the trident aegis and couldn't be more happy with it. I feel like it really almost wouldn't matter what I do to it, my phone will still be okay. Build quality and materials used on it are VERY pleasing. Significantly more protective, not just for drops, but dust and dirt as well. It has mesh over the microphone and speakerphone holes so dust doesn't get in and has silicon flaps to protect the audio out and micro usb port. Buttons are very easy to use as well (no fumbling with the slick samsung volume and power buttons).
Hope that helps. Link to aegis case is in a comment above mine.

If it makes anyone feel better, I smash my Epic Touch hard against a table repeatedly as a sales tactic, after asking if the customer would dare do that to their iPhone.
I do not have a case on my ET (just a screen protector). No problems or dings on the corners yet from doing so, so hopefully that gives everyone some cause to worry less. This said, I do this because if I really messed up my phone, I could just get a replacement, so I really wouldn't advise phone smashing on a regular basis...
And with some/all due respect to the OP and some others, I would take delight in laughing at you, along with every other employee. Would you demand a new laptop from Dell because it got a scratch on it from the Dell case you purchased with your computer? If you did, do you think they would ship one right out to you?
Honestly, I could see your complaint if the case somehow scratched the screen of the device, but the sides or back? How does this affect the functionality of your device? Do you not pull as many chicks by showing them your shiny, pretty phone?
Hey does anyone know of a reliable waterproof case for our phone?

+1 on the ziplock bag, saved my phone during a canoe trip once. Just leave a bit of air in it also not too much and it floats when it falls in the water. I'm sure a waterproof case wouldn't mean much if my phone had sunk the the bottom.
I'm always out in the rain with my phone (field training in the Army). I use snack size zip lock bags every time. It rubs a lot because of sand that get in my pouches or pockets but even if there are a few holes, there won't be too much moisture that gets in. Sometimes the bag comes unzipped, to fix it just tape the opening. Trust me, this phone has been through a lot! I have a zag (or zagg?) shield screen protector so the plastic bag actually sticks to the screen like a second screen protector

I am not planning to get a case for my HTC One. Screen protector only. This is what I did with all my previous Android phones - Atrix, RAZR, and One XL ... however those phones were not made of aluminum. This is day 2, and my phone still looks OK. Question: has anyone else gone commando, and do you have any scratches? Is it wiser to get some kind of case?
With my old iPhone 4, I simply put a screen protector on the front and rear of the device. Is there such a thing for the HTC One?
haven't had a case for a week since i've gotten it. Still looks mint.

Yeah, I dropped mine twice and no major issues besides some small nicks that are making me OCD so I'm probably going to get the Poetic Atmosphere case after they release the updated version with the home button cut out. Meanwhile, I've ordered this sexy Skinomi carbon fiber skin.

I've gone naked for over 3 weeks now, can't bring myself to put a case on this beauty. Starting to get paranoid now though, and OCD with the tiniest dent at the top of the phone. I ordered this pouch last week.http://www.etsy.com/uk/transaction/128631973
I haven't run cases or screen protectors on my phones in years, certainly not going to put one on this beautiful phone!
That being said, I might get a pouch for it for certain times when I have to relinquish possession of said phone for 'security' reasons. I dislike it when I can't keep hold onto it.
Personally I like to use a pouch. When I am using the phone it is commando. But when it goes in my pocket it is wrapped up safe, or when I put it on the desk I can put the pouch underneath. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

Just my take on it. Aluminum is not a hard metal, and it will at least dent and scratch. I would go with at least a thin TPU case. I'm using an Otterbox Defender on mine right now, but I may go with basic TPU soon.
I have never had a case for any phone and I certainly can understand why people think this is too beautiful to cover up. But for me it is too beautiful to leave it without a case and me mess it up. That's why I got the diztronic clear tpu case, happy enough with it.

I "could" end up breaking off the connecting tabs but I want to see if the GURU's on XDA knew an easy way to get the case off without breaking it. This is my first defender case. Thanks.

It is difficult but not impossible.
First, ignore the large plastic pieces at the middle of each side - those only hold the case in the belt holder, and do not snap the case together. When I first tried to remove the case, I broke a fingernail before realizing that this tab has nothing to do with removing the Defender from the phone.
The snaps keeping the case together are two on each side, and one on each end. If you look at it with the phone face up you will see that the tabs are on the top piece and lock into the bottom piece. You can use a fingernail to push in the small tab, while using another finger to gently pry open the case. Once you get the first one out it will be easier.
This case is put together like a tank, although the tabs are quite small.

Step 1: Grow fingernails, lol.
I have been trying your method, its more of a pain. I am probably going to get a tiny screwdriver to do this.
*EDIT* - I found the best way to do this was to indeed use the small screwdriver. I used a 1.4 mm and pryed it inbetween the attaching clasps. It was a few little prys and it came right off. Takes about 30 seconds of delicate work, but very simple to remove now.
As for -josh-'s post: Its BY FAR the BEST and TANKIEST case I have EVER had... I can't stress this enough. I feel like I could throw the phone at a cheating ex-girlfriend and give her a black eye all while keeping the phone super safe.
Why would you buy such a beautiful device just to put a huge case on it? If you're just going to hide it, why not go with the s4 with external sd card, battery, and arguably better software? The tabs on the otterbox will loosen up with time.

Lets see: Because some people want a rugged case for their One; I dropped mine on concrete from four feet up and it has no problems. It is super easy to access with the included belt holder. Not to mention the excellent protection for the camera housing. Last, the outer protective housing make the phone easy to grip and completely non slip, making the phone actually easier for me to use.
Actually, this phone works the best with the defender of any phone I've had, because it is so slim to begin with.
I got mine originally because it was on a huge sale and I had not found any decent belt pouches. I ordered the PDAIR horizontal pouch, but it will take a long time to get it from China. When it comes in I'll consider going to a TPU case and the belt pouch.
EDIT: Plastic does not "loosen over time". They could break, but Otterbox warranties their products.

Why would you buy such a beautiful device just to put a huge case on it? If you're just going to hide it, why not go with the s4 with external sd card, battery, and arguably better software? The tabs on the otterbox will loosen up with time.

Ya.. I agree but disagree at the same time. Cases are great for when you know you are going to be active and are at a higher risk of dropping/banging it. I go to the gym daily and know that it falls out of my pockets or gets knocked around in my gym bag. I like the added safety there and when I travel (which I do frequently as well).
If I am at the office or just tooling around the house, I absolutely go commando (well, the phone that is). I really wish Otterbox made a fully clear defender case... that would be AWESOME!

And miraculous, since it would require a transparent jelly covering. I don't think I've heard of one. The defender does not use TPU, the material is more rubbery.
Eh. I've got pretty durable teeth. Honestly I always have my charger so I pop off the rubber, poke the tab withthe prongs of my charger and it falls right off.

*EDIT* - I found the best way to do this was to indeed use the small screwdriver. I used a 1.4 mm and pryed it inbetween the attaching clasps. It was a few little prys and it came right off. Takes about 30 seconds of delicate work, but very simple to remove now.

Well, since I've broken my fingernails, I'll use a small screwdriver next time...
Yeah it was more the size of it that's off putting also it's only available to me in black.
Can anyone tell me what the difference between a defender and commuter case is? Is the commuter just smaller?

I have the otterbox commuter and it doesnt add too much bulk, but it feels solid enough to protect the phone from damage in a drop. It's very easy to install and remove. I just wish the plastic casing on the back provided more grip. It's too smooth of a surface and makes holding the phone with one hand a bit more of a challenge.

The defender also has a built in screen protector where as the commuter (I think) comes with a sticker kind of screen protection.
First time I have purchased an Otterbox case. I usually buy TPU cases. I have been using mine for Golf GPS and using it more outdoors so I decided to get a better protecting case. Plus the port covers would help keep the dirt out. Defender looked way to big but the Commuter was perfect. Putting it back up in size with the Note 2 that I just got rid of. I have really enjoyed the case thus far.

I've removed it a few times and my fingernails get destroyed every time... Tried removing it after I had just cut my fingernails and boy did it hurt. Also was quite difficult. I'm definitely going to try the small screw driver next time.

Hi, I use a plectrum to open my defender. It's easier and better for fingernails.
Dam it! I just ordered it before I saw this!

Haha don't worry man, it's not that hard to get off! Plus I love the protection that it offers.
