[Q] reinstall HTC Albums - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've been searching for hours on how to reinstall system apps and in particular the HTC Albums app. I've got the apk and odex file in system/app, and I try installing the apk. I keep getting "Application not installed." I've tried setting different permissions, restarting the phone, and it still doesn't work.
I accidently deleted HTC Albums, and now I get a FC everytime I do anything related to HTC Albums.
I've tried thinking of everything, even trying to completely reformat the phone back to the stock 2.2 HTC update, but can't seem to get past my newbie-ness.
Any help would be awesome, and hopefully this post and it's response can help another newbie in the future.
Thanks

[Q] Problem with new OTA firmware

I've just updated my Desire (stock, not rooted) with the new firmware update (2.10.405.2) Since then some apps don't work. I press the icon/widget to start them and the first screen flashes up then disappears, sometimes with a force close error message that disappears as well. I've not tried all my apps yet, but I can't load Opera Mini, NewsRob or the stock Browser. I also can't load Gmail via the Gmail Unread Count widget, but can via the Gmail shortcut.
I've tried simple things, like restarting the phone and uninstalling then reinstalling the apps, but that's not helped.
Has anyone else got this problem? Anyone know the answer?
Try resetting your phone and then set the phone up again before trying any apps.

I was hoping to avoid having to do that, because I don't want to lose all my SMS etc.
Are there any other possibilities to fix it, or has anyone else got the same problem?
you cannot load the stock browser?!?
I updated my stock HTC Desire and everything is fine including stock browser.
sounds like a reset might be your only option unfortunately.
This is why I delete SMSs once read...one less thing to have to back up!! LOL!!!
Reset is the only way unfortunately
OK, I've tried resetting my phone and it's still not working! In fact it's got worse, because the market isn't working either!
Any more ideas?
Please?

[Q] odex file question

So I have searched and google this to death for a couple weeks now. I have rooted my CDMA Desire (US Cellular), and deleted some of the bloatware. I jumped into it before reading all the how to's and such (stupid I know), and didn't back up my stock rom. I'm wanting to reinstall Friendstream, as I have the constant sync icon, as well as accounts and sync Force Closing when I try to open it.
I have heard that removing Friendstream causes this, so I would like to reinstall. I pushed the apk's for Friendstream, and the widget with no luck, so I'm guessing I need the odex files for my build. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Just find an odexed rom, unzip it, extract the .apk and the associated .odex file and push them to your device

I don't get any such errors and I've removed everything "social networking" related.
There's people who state Market doesn't work without GTalk... well, I've been running it fine since +5 months as such.

Still haven't had any luck getting this to work, would be easier if someone could just send me stock FriendStream.odex and widget .odex files for a bravoc 2.1 desire... I know nothing about finding an odexed ROM or anything like that. USCC still has yet to give a release date for 2.2 and my phone functionality is going to crap, as well as battery life due to it constantly trying to sync...

[Q] Market app deleted on San Francisco... help?

Hey guys,
Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place.
Just rooted my san fran to get rid of the orange guff that comes with it and must've removed the wrong stuff because now market and googlemail won't open... no error message, just closes the apps straight away and takes me back to the previous screen.
I tried factory reset, no joy there but it did delete SystemApp Remover etc. which I can't get back now and can't find the .apk file to mount to SD card either. Would installing 2.2 be any help?
Would greatly appreciate any ideas you can throw my way

com.android.phone Force Close

Hello. Yesterday I was trying to install some Xperia S apps, installed SemcPhone.apk and the problems started. Infinite Force Closes showed up and I forgot to make a bakup before. An helpful member helped me in the Xperia S Apps thread and I installed his original SemcPhone.apk, but to do that I had to erase the .odex file that was in my phone to stop the Force Closes. Now everytime I try to make a call I still get a Force Close on com.android.phone and the app doesn't work at all, but happily I can actually talk with the person I called, and end the call by accepting the force close. I have no idea if I can still recieve calls and the phone will always ask my PIN code when I end a call.
Help, please? Will I have to wait for the oficial ICS release? Should I make a Factory Reset, root the phone again, copy the .apk and .odex files to somewhere else, install ClockworkMod Recovery, restore it back and put those files in the right place with the correct permissions?
If you install the updated contacts apk, then it also updates the phone and favourites. I have no problems.

Tried that now, the app updated without problems but SemcPhone.apk still doesn't work.
uninstall the semc.phone apk if you still have it installed, then see. if it still doesn't work, try reinstalling the updated contacts apk.
... Something really weird happened. I restored a backup I made after the problem started and it works perfectly now. Thanks for trying to help, anyway.

I was facing same problem. I uninstalled all unecessary system apps like HTC Zoe,kid mode(consumes lot),music(Google one, coz I like HTC music),and all bloatware installed by Google .Delete whichever you want. But don't delete the app services. Since you are rooted, use system root uninstaller(I don't rember proper me ,but it has red icon with white dustbin). Don't forget to delete the apps from recycle bin after uninstalling the apps. If you don't delete the apps from recycle bin, they will automatically get installed after reebot. Hit thakms if it worked

I want to delete useless apps but I don't know which ones are totally harmless to delete it for the phone. Can you give names of apps that could delete safely?
Also, how can you delete from recycle bin?
