[Q] Titanium Backup to Restore Data - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've installed countless ROMs now, but I always have the same issue. When restoring apps with Titanium Backup, it never restores everything. For example, I have schedules on Titanium Backup to backup EVERY NIGHT according to these batches:
"Backup all new apps and newer versions" and
"Backup all system data"
I thought this would cover everything. Now when I installed Cyanogen RC2 and tried to do a batch restore of the system data, I am still missing things! Namely, I am missing messages in Messaging and conversations in Google Talk. The last ones showing are from way over a week ago, but I am backing up every night!
Does anyone have any idea whats up? Am I restoring wrong?

Titanium & MyBackupPro

My day to day rom is Shinzul's CM7 G. However, I wanted to have a Sense rom on hand that I can restore on occasion. I chose MikFroyo, which I liked a lot.
Before flashing MikFroyo I backed up my SMS, MMS and CALL LOG with MyBackupPro. I also backed up my apps with data (non system apps.) After, flashing MikFroyo and installing MyBackupPro I attempted to restore the SMS, MMS and CALL LOG. When I chose the restore option it said that I didn't not have a backup to restore to. No idea why it wasn't able to access it because I definitely did do a backup.
When I tried to restore my apps with data it seemed to go through ok. However, after trying to open a few apps I got FC. Namely a few of my games, such as Angry Birds and Flick Kick Football. I uninstalled these apps and then I just restored the APK w/o the data. The app restored just fine, however, I really wanted the data.
Trying to restore apps with data on Titanium had a similar problem. The programs would FC and I would only be able to restore the APK w/o the data. This really sucks! Is this a known issue when trying to restore apps + data when going from AOSP to Sense and vice versa?
Someone help, because if nothing else I need to be able to restore my MMS/SMS and my Angry Birds data!
Anyone have any input?
Im not sure, I use titanium pro and never had that issue. Did you go to the website and look at the trouble shooting section yet? Maybe its a bad backup.
That's the reason in a nutshell. You're not suppose to restore your data from AOSP to Sense, and vice versa. Try App only, and post your results after.

MIUI Titanium Backup doesn't restore data

Hello all,
I installed MIUI rom on my galaxy S I900which seems to be working fine.
Prior to this I had made a full titanium backup of system data and apps
Now after resetting rights to TB, I would like to restore my contacts and messages.
As I set the folder location and go to backup/restore and contacts item, TB has well detected my backup with the correct date and time at which I made it.
The problem is TB displays a message data restored successfully but my contacts list is empty.
Same problem with messages.
Please help i really need this data back.
Thanks in advance
Wrong forum, mate
In general though, it's inadvisable to restore system apps or data with TiBu, especially going between TouchWiz/Sense and AOSP, which MIUI is.
System apps are generally dependent on framework proprietary to TW, and that framework isn't present on AOSP.
For contacts, migrate them all to google contacts, so you never have to worry again.
For messages, try SMS backup and restore (free in market)

Backing up data with Titanium Backup

So this time I actually started playing games on this phone lol and since all these roms are coming out, I wanna know how you guys do it to back up the save data and restoring when switching roms without causing problems..
Me personally, I do a complete backup of "user apps" (apps + data). I also set a schedule within Titanium Backup to regulary backup my apps/data. after having flashed a new ROM, I will selectively restore the apps and their data.

restore personalizations after a wipe

This has to have been asked already, however I am unable to think of sufficient search terms to turn it ip.
What I am looking to do is back up all my personalizations(sp?), ring tones, email configurations, text messages, all apps, etc and restore them back after a rom change or reinstall of the same rom.
Thanks
If Adroid had taken a backup of your apps and Settings then it would restore them. All you need to do is to log on with the same Google account as before. If you had not enabled Backup and Restore (Settings > Backup & Restore) then it will not restore anything.
I've used Titanium Backup for this - for a more in-depth way to backup and restore. It's just important to read and understand what you can and can't do with it or you can cripple your ROM and have to wipe and start over.

I have never had much luck with the google restore. The only thing I have ever been able to get it to restore with any reliability was my contacts. Having my apps restored is below 50/50 and I always have that setting on. Even when it restored my apps it never restored my Text Messages although I do have an app for that. It is more the configurations that get annoying.

I'll have to take another look at Titanium Backup. I played with it a couple years back but never delved into it too much. Mainly used it to freeze apps on my Sensation when only the temp root was available.
Thanks guys.
I've used Ti Backup for years but it can be a little cumbersome. Helium by Koush is a little easier to use.
My last wipe was owned by Nandroid Manager
I've never restored wifi, bluetooth and SMS so reliably before. As long as you do a full Nandroid backup before you wipe, NM can hunt through your backup for whatever data you need.

Can't restore backup after update (with root)

Hi,
after rooting my phone, and updating it in the process, I can't restore any backup I did before.
I did the backup with the backup & restore app that it came with in stock trim when the phone still ran on 4.3. I intended to restore my data after flashing to 4.4 (0.681 fw) ... which, I know now, doesn't work that easily.
Is there a way to get at least part of the backup restored (contacts, text messages and such)?
And while we're at it, may I ask if there is a preferred app to backup phone data (contacts, text, call history, settings, apps ...)?
Didn't you sync contacts with google?
I didn't. I guess I should have ...
In the end, I reflashed to the 14.2-something firmware with the older version of the backup & restore app included. So, I could restore my backup from before flashing (rooting); all good, for now
