Hello people,
I was hoping somebody could help me, my phone got wet(stupid i know) and shut down because of the water.
I pulled the battery and put my phone in rice for a day, at first it wouldnt boot and kept refreshing the google logo, after awhile it started to boot normally (and work normally) except booting which took 2 or 3 google refreshes before it started bootanimation, and with the charger plugged in it took more(like 5).
Im not sure what is happening with booting, may be related to my next problem, the camera stopped working.
when i start up camera all i get is a black screen and my navbar buttons, no shutter button, no error or w/e just nothing. sometimes not even all the navbars show up.
Other then that the phone is working normal so i dont know if it is a soft- or hardware problem.
Does anybody know what is going on?
Id like to pull a logcat but it isnt working for me, says adb isnt a internal or external command after installing all the sdk tools etc.
It's likely that your camera module broke.

Well you can replace it yourself, but assuming that you've never done disassembling and stuff, I don't recommend you doing it...

You gotta pay Samsung to do it. Warranty doesn't cover that. If you're lucky, you can probably fix it from third party repair shop for a cheaper price

Man me too, i was out running with my phone yesterday (use my phone for GPS and music while running), 2 miles into my run and it started POURING! my phone got pretty wet pretty fast. I pulled the battery, wrapped it up in my shirt and ran that fastest 2 miles of my life back to my truck to get my nexus somewhere dry... its been sitting in rice since yesterday afternoon.... im scared to power back up

thx for your input, i will take it to a local phone shop to see if they can get it fixed.
Kinda regret not getting insurance for it though.
Last question, would the broken camera module be the cause of the bootloopish behaviour?

Know that feel bro. i was scared ****less. but still the camera broke.
Any update on this?
I have EXACTLY the same situation with a little more info. Seems weird that the same components die in the same manner with water damage. Some traces too close together?
My phone wasn't actually soaked, just very humid. Was in my jacket pocket while running in a downpour. Jacket is completely waterproof, unfortunately it wicks a lot of water off me and the goddamn pocket is made of the same breathable wicking material. Time I realised what had happened, there was a lot of moisture in the pocket. Phone still working but .....
Flash modules no longer works. This is why the camera app fails to start. There's no error in logcat aside from the application taking too long to respond. Will dig a bit deeper here shortly, but I just found it odd that the phone is so susceptible to moisture in one specific piece of hardware. I know this isn't a ... catastrophic design flaw but it IS something any good electronics manufacturer should note and take into consideration. If a bit of moisture causes this failure reproducibly, it should be considered a design flaw, and addressed as such.
Back to the OP though. Did your phone ever miraculously start working?
Could you test if your flash module works (install a flashlight app and turn on...)?

Leave it on the rice a couple more days. And in between try to replace rice with new one. I have read in this forums number of times people who have successfully dried out their phone waited longer, that is several days in rice.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I had an ogdroid take a swim in a Pool (i was pushed in). I left the phone & battery fully submerged in a bowl of rice for 2 weeks. I changed the rice out every to days. Reinserted battery and powered Up device and it when to bootloader. I sbf the phone....worked perfect as if it never went swimming.
The longer that you can leave it....the better. Oh and replace the water detection stickers. You can buy them just about anywhere on the net.

Hey.. I flashed cm12 unofficial ROM 2-3 months ago on my lg d855.. There weren't any major bugs.. But recently I noticed that sometimes when I press the power button to unlock it .. The touch screen seems to stop working.. This happens only on the lock screen... I Also tried holding the power button and try to tap the "power off / reboot" buttons.. It doesn't work too.. But.. The weird part is..when I sort of slap the screen it starts to work again .. My question is .. Is it a ROM bug? Or is it a hardware issue.. If its a software issue.. Then why does it start working when I slap it.. And if its a hardware issue.. Why does it only occur on the lock screen? Please help.. Thanks

I haven't had this problem on the D851, but I would try updating your device to the newest version of Cyanogenmod.
Also, back when I had the G2 I went through this problem a lot and actually had about five of them because they were under warranty. The problem was that the seal for the screen would come undone, and it's hard to notice since the screen is literally the entire front of the phone. When this seal broke, water would seep in and cause chaos with the screen. Wouldn't work in certain parts and so much more. I haven't had this happen on the G3, but my seal has broken and I can see it, so it's only a matter of time before water gets in there (or until I get the screen replaced). I've always had this problem with LGs they're just so damn good that I live with it. I'd bet this is what's going on if it's not the hardware.

Absolutely... I can see... Whenever I press on the edges on any of the sides.. It sort of gets pushed in.. It looks like its not glued properly.. Its a bummer as the "screen" is the reason y I bought this.. From ur experience , does it stop working completely at some point?

If you can push it in then the seal is definitely broken.
On my G2, when in a moist and humid environment condensation would form on the inside of the device, but it was nothing too big and went away after a while. However, when too much fluid built up in the inside it began typing on its own. Furthermore, it got to the point where certain parts of the screen were unresponsive. This is why I had about five of them because over time it did get bad.
Although if there is water in the device rice usually absorbs it. Get a ziplock bag and fill it with rice. Take your battery, sim card, and sd card out, then place the phone in the bag full of rice. Seal it and shake it up a bit and let it sit over night. Keep the back cover off as well. If this is an option. I understand you might need your phone, but if you get a time where about eight hours are free I would highly recommend this. I have no idea how it works, but it takes the moisture out of the phone. I've done this with waterlogged phones, my G2, etc.
When I did that on the G2 it fixed my problems until moisture got back in there. I don't take care of my phones too well, so moisture got back in fast. Try this out and if it works just avoid keeping your phone in moist places (like playing music in shower, being on it while raining, etc.). If this fixes the problem it should hold you off until you can get the screen resealed or a new screen.
If it is with the hardware and its still under warranty I would get a replacement. I would revert to the stock ROM (if you made a backup) or find one and make sure it's updated. I would then do a full unroot, and attempt to make it so they cannot tell it was rooted. I would then attempt to get the replacement. Rooting voids the warranty, but if you unrooted I doubt they could tell. Furthermore, if you have insurance on the phone this could also work.
Edit: If you try the rice then try to replace the screen I would ensure that the current screen works properly after the rice. Make sure all the moisture is out before you replace the screen that way no moisture is trapped in there.

First of all.. Thank you soo much.. Thank you for the time.u put into these posts.. It has really helped me.out a lot.. I can totally see how the rice method could work.. But it has not got to the point where its un-usable.. As I said, its only in the lock screen.. It has never ever occurred during actually using it.. I haven't found any dead spots.. Nothing.. If I use the rice trick to take out the moisture,, and if I can use the same screen (which should still work) can I just take it out and glue it in to place? What type of adhesive should be good... I'm asking this because I got this from abroad.. And it's not an international warranty. So there's no way I'm getting a warranty replacement .. So ive gotta make with what I have.. But this is very sad though, specially from such a big company.. I mean gluing a screen is not that hard.. I played loads.. Lol.. I really hope hot glue works lol..

Well then I'd try to fix it before it does get unstable! Thing with the lock screen is you're swiping and the moisture defuses the area you're touching which could cause problems. Definitely try the rice! However, I wouldn't recommend gluing it yourself. I imagine it requires some sort of water and heat resistant glue to be effective, and on top of that a professional application. Hot glue definitely won't work! I imagine you want something that looks nice and I can only seeing that being messy and leaving residue. Furthermore, I'm not entirely sure on what lies beneath the screen and if disturbing that could cause further problems. However, I understand you're probably planning on it so please watch a guide such as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcoEQVtUwYQ to see how it's done and what you need. There seems to be a lot more to it than just placing some glue on the screen and pressing it back down.
I'm sure you can get a replacement kit with instructions and all the required tools to do it properly for not too steep of a price. Check this out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement...46?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item54198f441a
Or you could take it to a professional like those at Broke Ass Phone: http://www.brokeassphone.com/smartphone-repair-selection/lg-smartphone-repair/lg-g3/ The price is steep, but it's professionally done and comes with a warranty.
Good luck to you!

Hi, ItsJacobee,
Sorry for breaking in, I have the same issue with 2000ftt, and I did tried "rice trick" but no luck. I think the screen is perfectly fitted in the case, when I press the edges, the feel is solid and no room for further pressing in.
My device is D855, I flashed many custom roms (resurrectionremix, CM12, Nameless ROM, CloudyG3 2.1), the mentioned issue happens to many of them but never happened in CloudyG3 & stock rom.
Any idea?
Best regards.

Yes, it is under warranty, I am going to restore stock ROM and take it to service center. But I don't know how to trigger the issue (touch screen no response at lock screen while using power button to wake up), in stock rom and cloudyG3, this problem never happen.

Thanks for reminding. I restored the phone to stock with the downloaded .TOT file, then go to service center.
I can't trigger the problem in front of the service guy, however, they ask me to left the phone for checking, one day later, they confirmed that my phone is working fine no need to do anything, nothing to be replaced.
CM12 is already good enough, its speed and battery friendly....
I wish developers of CM12 would somehow fix the problem in future updates, as I knew some D855 user (but not much) also having the same issue.
Best regards,
D855Lover.
Hello everyone,
I've had my G3 D855 which I have been using for 16 months. Bought it brand new on eBay and everything was going well until a month ago when the screen flickering began.
Tried every trick on YouTube or Google but from last week, it got so bad that I'll be lucky to have it working for 5 minutes in 24 hours.
Being a tech enthusiast, I decided to take the bull by the horn. I decided to either end up fixing it or giving it a proper burial.
After careful and logical study of hardware and software, I reached a conclusion that the problem is hardware related.
Which took me to options like ambience sensor, screen connector, battery, processor among others.
Started by eliminating the suspects from the ones easier to handle like battery, inspection of screen connector and flex etc.
SOLUTION
I do recall that many people recorded success with using paper or any other thing to press down the connectors for camera and ambience/proximity sensors (which in turn adds pressure to the big chip at the back(processor).
Since my phone has fallen countless times (at times from a distance), I assumed some components must have partially detached from the motherboard and cause the issue.
So I got a friend's soldering rework station heat gun and soldering paste.
1. Applied paste to the two connectors for the screen as shown on the first image below and reheated them properly then allowed it to cool.
2. Applied paste generously to the main chip(processor) as shown on the second image below and fired it up before letting it also cool down.
Remember that my screen refused to open throughout the day, haven't been able to use it for almost three days. Once I coupled it and started, walah!
Not a flicker, not even once and I'm 13 hours still counting but I believe the problem has been fixed (fingers crossed lol) + I used the phone to type and send this.
I advise you try it but be careful not to shift or move the components being heated so as not to displace them and also reach out to as many people as possible cos there are thousands with the issue and I didn't make a video for YouTube as I didn't know it'll work.
So, good luck to you all:good::good::good:
NB:
Just posted a VIDEO https://youtu.be/tP0ds01ML9I

So maybe this flickering issue is due to CPU/GPU overheat, thermal paste appliance seems to be a good option... I'll get my hands on a G3's motherboard with this issue and apply this mod. Will post the results :good:

Not just putting thermal paste but heating the processor back is the key
My advise to those who don't have heat gun or soldering paste is to go to any good technian who has a heat gun in his workshop and let him do it for you. Just show him the places and give him something when he's through. If he's a phone repair person, all the better as he'll know the best technique to apply.
People have had success baking the motherboard in the oven for 10 minutes to fix potential soldering issues with components. At the moment I have used the piece of paper method and it has worked great but will need to use a more permanent method as I plan on selling it.
I've tried the paper method on the adapter near the camera, and, now the display works fine , but my wifi signal strength is lowered. I used to get an excellent signal strength on using wifi at any rooms in my home but now I get excellent signal strength only when I am using wifi near my router.
This sounds very promising and I'm very eager to try this! But I am unfortunately confused, where exactly am I putting the paste on these 3 parts?

You'll put the paste over the connectors and the edges where the connectors are soldered to the motherboard then heat.
As for the processor, you put a good amount right on it & as you heat the processor, the paste will melt and drop on the side of the processor to enhance the contact with the motherboard.
ie. You'll put the paste right in the area I circled with red on the attachment pics above.

3 days ago, I wanted to clean my lens because some dust were on it, so i put out the 2 screws around the lens... of course i did not see they were different...because i am stupid with it ! when i clean it i mixed the two screws so the big one went to deep behind the plastic and make a perforation on a component.
I join a picture to let you see a small hole in the blue part on the right of the camera lens !
Since, the battery is down in 3hours. Android tell me the system use around 80% of the battery and it is warm on the plastic around the lens.
The wifi never want to be put on and the bluetooth too (the MAC WIFI is now : 02:00:00:00:00:00)
The telephone and the 4G are working perfectly
I tried to put a small electric scotch on the hole but this don't change anything.
I just want to use this phone as a phone now, i don't care if the bluetooth, the wifi or the camera is working well or not at all....
Is it possible with the hidden menu to disconnect this component???
Do you have a solution which allowed me to continue using this phone which is perfect otherwise?
Sorry for my english....as you can see, i am not so good with it !
Thanks in advance for your advice...
Any idea of
What is the component i touch with the screw???
how i can use the hidden menu to disconnect wifi and bluetooth???
Thank u

I have a vs985 & yours is a d855, but I think the boards are similar enough to try and help.
It's not a component you hit - it's just tape. I opened up my phone and tested that spot on the board with a DMM and it looks like a ground plane underneath the tape you punctured. That in itself shouldn't be causing your problems, but if your screw went through the ground plane & into the board it may be shorting something out which could be causing your issues. If that's the case I don't know if your phone is salvageable.
1)Try removing the back cover and see if the issues go away. There is a possibility that when you re-assembled the phone something ended up out of place/off its contacts.
2)Also, I'd take a closer look and see how deep the screw went. Maybe take a fine tip tweezer and see if there is some of that ground plane mashed in the hole & try to gently peel it out.
3)And, of course, try resetting your phone or even re-flashing at some point - just so you can know for sure you didn't have some weird software glitch that just happened to show up after you opened your phone.
Hidden menu - I've never used it and I'm not on stock so I can't tell you much about it's functions. Here's a link... https://www.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/3z4nwi/lg_g3_hidden_menu_on_60_marshmallow/
Good luck - hope you get it sorted out
thanks,
I ll try tomorrow and tell you ASAP !!
THX again to spend time for me
Hi long story short: Phone slip from my jacket into a ice cold water cooler and spend there at least 2 minutes.
I was able to disassemble and dry it up, did a trick with usb charging and replugging the battery at the same time of powering it up and I got it working again.
The display is soaked in water still no matter how much I try to dry it using a hair dryer. So I order a new one. + a new battery just in case this ones goes bad eventually.
Now my problem is that the usb is not being recognized while plugged on a computer.
Beside this I don't know what other hidden issues it might have.
How screw am I ?
How much mileage can I get out of this phone now?
Do you have any kind of corrosion on metal contact and/or phone motherboard? If so, the only way to fix corrosion is to clean it in ultrasound bath with chemicals.
you're not suppose to turn it on until it fully dried, too late for that
you should have left it in some rice for a few days
do it now and it might still be recoverable since it seems to still work, but don't get your hopes up

it was still on when I took it off the cooler, I couldn't turn it off without using the power button and this is not a galaxy that I could remove the battery right away. I wasn't at my place and didn't have any tools with me.
The phone is working now, but I don't know for how long. thanks for your advice thou.
then it's probably fine then, it can't get worse at least

Yes it can, sometimes water damage shows itself after a few hours or days (corrossion). Hope OP is lucky and there is no permanant damage :fingers-crossed:

Thanks for your reply, this is what I am mostly worried about. I don't know what I can do to meausure the extend of the damage at this point, so I am sailing blindfolded atm.

Put the turned off phone covered in a bowl with uncooked rice asap and let it in for a day or two to extract as much moisture as possible :good:
Well it seems it is done.
First the volume button went out, then the power button. I tried and clean it again with alcohol to no avail. Send it to a repair shop to see if they can fix it since the phone is still working but can't turn it off without the buttons.
Thanks everyone that chime in. really appreciate it!
