Hello! I have very annoying problem with my Desire - microphone doesn't work. Voice Recorder records just white noise and other people can't hear me.
Phone was rooted more than a month ago. Since then, I was satisfied user of RCMixHD. The last changes I've done (on Sunday) were: update system to v0.12 and radio to 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27. I don't call very often, so I noticed the problem yesterday.
I've started solving problem by restoring backup - it hasn't helped. Next I have wiped data, reverted to standard ROM, reset factory data etc. and it also hasn't helped. Next step was downgrading radio to recommended 32.48.00.32u_5.10.05.30 and other older versions. This hasn't helped too. I have tried many times (between the changes) recording voice - sometimes I could hear the recording (with white noise of course) but very quietly.
Today I have unrooted the phone using RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe. Microphone still doesn't work.
Maybe, someone more experienced than me can help? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
PS Phone isn't branded. I've got it since June.
The same here
I have unbranded Desire and facing the same problems and no solution found yet. I contacted HTC and they said that since I used unofficial ROM the waranty is voided and I should pay to get it fixed.
Did you find any solution? Thanks!

Yes run a RUU and don't tell HTC that you rooted your devices.
Thanks TheGhost1233 for the tip!
but I am still would like to find a software solution. I am not sure if its hw problem.
If you revert to stock and the problem is still there it's a hardware problem.
Thanks alot man, I am now reverting to UUR. If the problem persists I will send it to service and tell them that I used a modified ROM if they ask me because in this case I am to be blamed :-(

All,
Does anyone else have the issue of the trackball and buttons not lighting up after flashing Modaco ROM 1.4?
I have tried to wipe and re-install but nothing.
They don't even light with a phone call and I KNOW they worked not 20 mins before as I was showing a colleague.
Also, just noticed my LED no longer lights either when it is plugged on charge, something awry here........
its not the rom, its the device. read on the hero forum here on xda and you'll find out that there are plenty of us with this problem. also, test your minijack
My led light and jack audio 3.5 don't work. And all this problem happended after I flash 1.4 Modacon rom. So, there are many people meet this problem like me. If it is the device problems, so how to fix it or is it the HTC responsibility?
maybe, MAYBE, if the problem is software related it MAYBE fixed in the upcoming update. if not, HTC has told me to send the phone to them for repair.
It needs a new mainboard

Have you flashed back to a stock ROM to see if this "cures" the issue?

Looks like this problem is specific to the new Modaco rom, as i cant even load my sms now
chomp works fine, but stock sms wont load.
Flashing back my nandroid back up till issues are resolved
I've read a topic here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4458659#post4458659
zhanglei has said that all this problem could be fixed by update to firmware version 1.5 of Modaco. I have followed him and update this verion.
The result is so AMAZING!!! ALL ARE WORK BACK!!!
It's only software problem and could be fixed by update to 1.5 firmware of Modaco.
Thank zhanglei once again!
100% GUARANTEE
I confirm.
Trackball, LED and buttons now light up after flashing the latest 1.5 Modaco.
Good fix guys!
another possibilty for me was just to wipe and flash original rom, (also format sd card - everything has to be in original state!!!), then that trackball and button problem will disappear

definetely a software issue.there is a specific forum abt it in q & a and it seems everything got back to normal, trackball working, flashlight working and led working with the new modaco 1.5 rom.
cheers/
it's not the rom that fixes the problem. because with 1.5 it stopped working on my hero. today i installed 2.0 modaco, and updated radio, and then the lights worked again. I think the problem persist in some of the Radio updates. The first time i didn't have the right Radio version i think..
Hi ll,
I really out of ideas here .
I was running Pays 1.9 Bravesoul ROM without any issues for about 4 months on my unbranded Desire(HBOOT 0.75)!
Today I decided to update to Froyo.
I used Rom Manager to upgrade to OpenDesire 3.03 and Radio 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20.
Every thing went well, except that I noticed that the MIC doesn't work at all.
Not when I make or receive a call, Not if I try to Mute/Unmute it, Not if i try to Record sound, or Video or WHATEVER!!! The only way the other side can hear me is trough my BT headset.
So I tried to use the LeeDroid 1.7a ROM but same result. Also tried to use different Radio - 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08.
I then Nandroid restore to my 1.9 Pays rom (Wiping Data+Cach+ext), but still doesn't work. I tried different Radios:
32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2
32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
32.26.00.24U_4.04.00.03_2
same thing...
I finally Unrooed my Desire to v1.15.4 Radio 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11 without any luck!
So I'm pretty hopeless Please if someone also have / had this issue, Please share!
Thanks!
sounds to me like it's broken mate
i know it's coincidence that it broke as you changed ROM but if it doesn't work on anything there's no explanation
have you tried a hard reset + clearing caches?
if you have then unroot your phone, put it back to your original RUU for warranty purposes and sent it back for repair
by what do you mean Hard Reset?
I wiped all data, I've changed roms.
Currently It's unrooted...
Is it possible for the Radio update to do this? (all the updates went without a hitch)
Or maybe the OpenDesire ROM (I see that v3.03 is removed, do you know why?) did this?
There is no way it a coincidence. I making phone calls all the time, The update took me about 15 min, after which I tried the Video camera and noticed there was no sound...
Thanks!
well, I noticed that the mic works, but extremely week! I really need to shout in order to hear a whisper... I do this in recording...
I'm starting to believe that maybe it's the mimbrein (Or the piezzo) that is ruined inside the mic...
Is it possible to control the gain in software? (Is there still a chance that the S.W upgrade caused this?)
After installing Radio 2.05.00.06.11 (dinc_ota.zip), my handset speaker audio disappears. Speakerphone and bluetooth work fine, but no luck with the internal speaker.
Heres the kicker:
Once I restore the 1.0 Radio, the internal speaker starts working again.
After lots of searching, this seems to be a very intermittent problem. I've only found two other people experiencing the same issue. Unfortunately I have not found a solution.
Does anybody have any idea as to what my next step should be to try and solve this?
Thanks!
I have the same problem...

Try downloading a fresh copy of the update and running it again?
It's working just fine for too many people for it to be a problem with the update itself.

not exactly. but, this radio isnt a image, its a patch. and a double patch is not the same thing... there is no error checking. dont do it!
I've tried re-installing the update 3 times from three sources. At first I thought it was the Froyo update so I went back to my nand backup and that didn't help, but once I downgraded the baseband it magically started working again.
So I tried it again. Re-downloading all the tools and packages. Only for it to happen again right after the Radio update. So I reverted back, cleared everything to factory, did a fresh install, then did the upgrade once more.... Still same problem.
Since it is such an intermittent issue, I'm thinking that maybe the hardware is to blame. The particular handset that I have is a warranty replacement from Verizon (blown speakers on first one). Maybe that has something to do with it.
Anyone have any other theories?
Thanks!
So I'm stumped. It's a pretty straightforward process, and I can't see where I'm going wrong.
Next Step: Warranty Replacement. We'll see if that helps. I'll be sure to record the serial number and other details of the phone before I send it back. Maybe we can find a pattern.
It will be a couple days before the new phone arrives. If you have something I can try, please suggest away!
Thanks!
I am having the exact same problem. I have tried both 2.x radios and both have the same effect. I want to use froyo but the only way to is to use speakerphone or a plugged in headset. I tried to take it in yesterday but the tech at verizonwireless told me to wait it out until 2.2 comes out to see if that fixes my problems. ( went in stock told them I was having the problem on stock radio) final problem being is when official does come out and it kills my headset speaker is it going to be too late to root my phone knowing the replacement I get will already be loaded with the new software.
Chicken and Egg
Unfortunately, unrEVOked has not developed a S-ON patch. This means that you will either have to take stock 2.2 which will be unrootable -or- you will patch forever, have S-OFF, get stock 2.2 and not be able to return the phone if the problem doesn't clear up.
Please keep that in mind when making your decision.
The replacement phone worked...
Not sure what the problem was, but it confirms my method for installing 2.2 wasn't flawed..
Thanks for all your help!

I am trying to get verizon to send me a new one. They are not being very helpful right now. They said the audio issue is a software issue that should be fixed with the new update but might send me a new phone due to number of dropped calls. I have to stop in store tomorrow
Hello Everybody,
I seek your help,
I have my HTC desire for since June 10, it was with Android 2.1 and was working very well, On the 14 August, I've updated it to Android 2.2 (Froyo) but since then the internal speaker ( the one for hear phone conversations) isn't working any more.
the external speaker (on the back) is working and the hands free earhead is working as well.
I've done a hard reset without success.
Did it happen to any one of you? any ideas how to solve this problem?
same problem
I have the same problem as you with the internal speakers.
in addition my status led doesn't run since the update...
I have the same problem after updating to froyo. Any solutions?
No. I have discovered some other problems. For example the camera suddenly doesn't work and also the ear speaker (for the sound while phoning).
I have sent my phone for reparature back.
Anybody ever hear anything on a fix for this? The "real" RUU for 2.2 ran and put 2.15 on, which now seems impossible to remove. I have downgraded the radio before to fix this problem, but this new radio included in the RUU won't downgrade using any of the previous methods.
Ok so my sister has rooted HTC Desire Z with custome ROM and microphone just stopped working in calls and voice recording. Is it hardware glich or software?
How did she flash it? Was there a full wipe first? You need to name steps already tried and anything else that can give people an idea on how to help.
Flash the nandroid backup you should of made with cwmr and see if issue persists
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Same thing just happened to me my friend. I flashed a custom rom after rooting and the mic stopped working after a week. I can't send it to T-Mobile because I traded the phone on craigslist. The funny part is that the mic was working perfect before I rooted and flashed. Now no matter what I try it doesnt work.
I think it's just a coincidence. If immediately after flashing stopped working, what else.
Perhaps the only service you remains.
