I would like to know if it is possible to stream an avi video file from EVO to HDTV.
I have an HDMI chord, and it works fine when I play .3gp videos and stream it from EVO to HDTV. I downloaded an application called "Rock Player" which plays avi files on EVO but when I try to stream it from EVO to HDTV, it doesn't play at all.
I could always convert the AVI files to 3gp but it will lose quality. And I don't want that.
Perhaps someone else can correct me, but I believe HDMI out only works with video recorded on the phone. I thought I read this somewhere, but I could be completely making it up. I do know that some devs have been working on full HDMI out support, including for the UI (like and homescreen and such).

I have an HDMI cable so I can try it out but, as far as I know, only videos that play through the stock player will play through HDMI. Here's a guide to convert using Handbrake, makes decent videos.

So I want to convert all of my video media to MP4 so I can play it back on my Evo. Any good tools, free or paid, that can do this as a batch? I have over 2TB of media and would like to make this as much of a stream line process as possible.
I have found and used Handbrake before, but I'd like something faster if at all possible.

I'm going to give you the tools you need to do that, but I'm first going to suggest that you google rockplayer. It's an open beta app that will play your movie files like xvid and divx similar to VLC. It works amazingly for me. But if you insist on converting then here's a link to help.

I'll check that app out and look at the link. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Seems like rockplayer, doesnt play some of my videos.... Any ideas? Plays, but no sound.
I don't know about you guys but rockplayer is really bad at playing 720p which is all id watch on this screen..
Swyped from my Evo 4G
Have the digital copy of Iron Man 2 and Star Trek.
IM2 in WMV will not play
ST in Itunes will not play.
How am I supposed to play videos again?

You can use Rock Player or YXPlayer. Both Players will play .wmv files...

Hmmm Rock player failed on playback. Hmm will play with it some more
Rockplayer tries to play the WMV but the picture is all garbled and no sound. Rockplayer sees the .m4v file but says it is not activated.
MixZing works fine with WMV, IIRC.

Wow never had an issue with rock player... Used it to play mostly .avi though. Played a few .wmv files but most of my movies and video files are .avi or .mkv. Try using yxplayer, I personal prefer rock player but if it's not working then give yxplayer a shot.

Same here - doesn't play digital copy
I also tried to play my digital copy of IM2 on my HTC desire using rockplayer and get garbled picture with no sound.
Looked and yxplayer's feedback on the market and looks to be the same (or worse). Some comment that it may be a drm issue...
If anyone knows a workaround for this, that would be great!
Use handbrake and convert your videos to a format people actually use.

Edit: Handbreak guide link seems to be down. Might just be a problem with their site.
I use tunebite. Converts to.mp4. Just make sure the file size is less than 2 gb because it wont play.

The ugly truth is any digital copy has drm and won't play natively on android no matter what those market players claim.
Handbrake can't do **** to convert drm dc's.
The only way to get your dc's onto android is to use tunebite and do a real time screen capture. I have done this 4 times now and all have been successful. If you capture it right, the final size will be smaller than the dc (mine usually trim around .8 gb's on average from the dc) and still have the same quality (tunebite finals my files at 95 - 97% quality).
A word of caution though, do not screen capture the itunes dc as it makes it harder for you to capture in 720p (if the dc is natively 720).
Good luck.
I have Win7 HTPC with lots of TV recordings in WTV format. How can I watch them on Epic over 3g/wifi network?
I know there are options such as
1. orb player
2. slingplayer
They are not optimal and I would like to know any other options. Any ideas?
I just learned about allshare. Will allshare stream WTV in HTPC to the phone over wifi?
I think it should but I don't have Epic to prove it.

Just got my Epic today.
Bad news: Epic can't play WTV files using allshare. It can play avi files.
Good news: Allshare can stream videos from phone to DMA2200. I videoed my kid and played it to the big screen TV wirelessly.
WTV is only playable on Media Center PC with Windows Media Center installed.

really does this play wtv on android? it's too bad MSFT doesn't make a windows media portable for android.
I in order to play wtv on any meida player or portable device, a recommended solution is convert wtv to a more popular video format like convert wtv to avi, wmv, mp4, mov, vob, flv, asf, mpg and etc
Mod edit: no commercial advertising allowed
Just Google Search:How to Convert WTV to AVI, MP4, MKV, WMV, MPG and MOV?
You can find many ways there.

I miss watching anime on the go. I am trying to get away from having to convert my videos to the psp. I was hoping there would be some way to do it on my EVO. The videos are MKV with subs.
I have tried
Stock - Does not play
RockPlayer - MKV plays but no subs
Mplayer - Does not play
YxPlayer- MKV players but no subs (and stupid advertisement in the middle of the video)
-------------------------
Anyone know any apps that play MKV with subs? Also if I were to convert with handbrake, what settings should I use to make it look good and have subs?
I know vplayer supports mkv, no idea about subs. Also, it's very much an alpha release.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
thanks for the suggestion but Vplayer does mkvs fine but no subs.
Any other suggestions?
rockplayer's site says it has subtitle support but to what end i'm not sure, i would love to check for you but all my anime's subs are hardcoded =P
I downloaded a divx player named "demoplayer" and it works fine.
Havne't tried it, but this player:
http://mvideoplayer.info/
Touts a bunch of subtitle format support.
I tried it. I posted the results in the OP. It doesn't work for me the HTC evo because it doesn't originally play mkv files
its not a video player, and you still have to convert them but this works great.

vPlayer plays subs fine, just extract subs from your mkv using mkvextract (gui version if you prefer) or other extractor. if the sub isnt srt you can convert it with subtitle workshop or other app. ASS and SSA subs dont work, I tested, but
a 720p mkv enconded in h264 and audio in aac with the srt in the same foder with the same file name works like a charm on my evo.

Rock player also support srt, but I still prefer something that can play the files without having to convert / extract anything, if possible..

I love how video looks on the kindle fire!
Most of my ripped movies in my "Movies" network share play, but VOBs don't (DVD MPEG). MX Video player and ArcMedia player claim to play VOBs, but they don't. ArcMedia can access the share but won't play the VOBs. Neither ArcMedia or MX will associate with the VOB extension, so Android doesn't know what player to launch if I access a VOB via network share in a file browser.
Anybody tried playing a ripped DVD with an android device? If you had success, what player did you use?
Has nobody tried or wanted to play ripped DVDs?
Your best bet after ripping them is converting the format if the video is unsupported by android if possible and the only ripping I do with DVD videos is with iTunes and movies

Oh and I'd try to convert to a more common format ex: mp4
Sent from R800x
VOB files are not really uncommon. That's the format of every DVD.
I use Daroon Player to play VOBs that are locally loaded on my Fire. I don't remember if I sideloaded it or not.
