replace sense mms with vanilla mms on virtous/evils rom
So, i tried this all on my own and got it to work, but it was quirky,
I have a feeling it will allways be quirky if i did it right or not, any ideas?
basically im asking, is it possible to remove the stock sense mms.apk out of system/app and replace it/install vanilla mms.apk and everything run smoothly?

hi
ive flashed tonnes of roms and one thing pretty much guaranteed to **** up is my mms
ive got the correct settings backed up on apn manager (that ive used before and know to be correct)
ive now moved over to vanilla froyo roms, ive tried cyanogen and defrost both with the same issue.
problem is that now im just getting tiny mms pics....i mean tiny.
whats the deal with that ?
anyone know of a fix or can post their settings for me to check out ?
cheers
I think you'll find on the Android roms you do NOT have MMS PROTOCOL as an entry. This is good for me. Full size pics. But I cannot get any pics at all with sense roms. The moment I see MMS PROTOCOL after downloading a rom, I'm screwed. Transferring apn settings from a non sense Rom, leads to a FC. Be mindful of that mms protocol entry. It series things up for me.

Use the rom from Paul over at modaco r8 and remove the htc messaging and replace it with stock messaging app in the kitchen. Out of all the froyo roms this the only one that works properly with mms and o2. I have had the same issue from pretty much all custom roms. This will resolve your problem.

thanks mate, its kinda what i was thinking...
ill make r8 as vanilla as i can and just use that....i was using that before and know it to work.
thanks for the answers tho
cheers mate
White experience works on o2. Full size pics.
Back on mcr8 again and (with a little help from apn back up) all is well,
Shame the vanilla roms I tried didn't cut the mustard as far as my mms goes.
Took a while to sort stuff out with the market as it was today tho!
Talking of which, It seems to be twice as fast to download stuff as it was prior to it going down... could just be my imagination tho.

You do know white experience, vanilla Rom by neophyte works with full size mms. I'm currently on R8, but it only gave me one apn setting.

Agreed, except for the lack of receiving MMS. This was the whole reason I traded back to sense from MIUI, people kept sending me pictures and I had to go through sprints crap site to find them. (It's not easy to find your received MMS online, but it's there.)
yea hopefully they can fix the mms issue so we can have some talented person port it ova
Update 7-19 Working Lock Screen: jrizk07 has put together a single zip update for a stable lock screen. Big thanks to jrizk07!
In the zip, the Sense 3.0 Weather is included along with the updated 3.0 lock screen. All are working.
Limitations/Bug:
The lock screen will not show missed calls. This is due to the use of the 2.1 phone.apk. The 3.0 phone force closes too much, presumably due to a conflict with our radio.
Some are seeing the VVM app displayed twice in the app drawer. This is not consistently reproduced.
Zip can be found below. It is best flashed on a clean version of the RMK OTA. Flash on top of the ROM with no wipe. Link below:
http://www.multiupload.com/ZXQ2B2L7HE
Update: I have managed to get the lock screen working on the OTA build by RMK. I did no dev work on this, but rather was able to find different combinations of files that mostly worked. I am no Dev and cannot really support this, but wanted to post my findings. Flash at your own risk.
Here is what I did:
Taking the great work by Seo on the Desire HD (Thanks Seo!) in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062962, these are the steps I took:
1. Flash Sense3_WeatherPack-0.13.zip and reboot to set up. Do not wipe.
2. Flash Stock_Weather_KingdomLock-0.3.zip and reboot. Do not wipe.
3. Flash Kingdom_Lockscreen-0.17.zip. Do not wipe
After this, you should have a working lock screen and the new Messaging app. The new Messaging app cannot send MMS, so I pulled the MMS.apk out of the RMK ROM and pushed it back into System/App using Root Explorer (remember to change permissions), and reboot. If MMS is not important to you, you should be able to keep the app.
Bug:
com.android.phone will force close on occasion. I am not sure what is causing this, but it seems to happen mostly at start up. You will lose network connectivity momentarily and it will come back. I am not sure if it is a conflict with my SwitchPro widget for toggling vibrate or not, but seems related. This will also happen when toggling 3G Hotspot, but after the FC, everything works fine.
Work Around:
If the Phone FC'ing is an issue for you, you can push the phone.apk from the RMK ROM similar to the MMS method above. Doing this will not show missed calls on the lock screen and it will not show the count of calls on the phone icon for the lock screen.
I know the Kingdom ROM folks are having the same FC issue with the phone, so we should monitor Joel's progress to see if the issues they are having are related to this.
Now, on to the Quick Settings.
Old Req...
I know we are all waiting for Kingdom and Virtuosity, but I would love to just add these two features to the OTA. I suspect it will yield a very stable ROM.
That said, can anyone point me to a tutorial for porting features? I am sure it will require some framework tweaks and new APKs, but I would like to at least start poking around since we have a stable ROM with all working features.
google "android kitchen"
in the mean time. I use this, VERY STABLE. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151053

Thanks. I tried that ROM and liked it, but it is missing several HTC widgets and the voice search does not work. I really love that lock screen though.

Don't forget MMS doesn't work.
A good place to start is looking at the sense 3.0 update in that thread.
It replaces various frameworks, permissions, and apk's among other things. The only problem is that it's based on the Incredible S otherwise we'd be able to just flash it normally.
I flashed it just to test and I got the lock screen to work however the com.android.phone will continuously crash along with the status bar. I don't have enough time in the day to look at it piece by piece for a port.

GPS works fine for me but what did you do differently for mms?
It always fails after a number of retries and looking into it the settings are all blank. That's coming from a clean wipe of everything to beta2.
I'm still unable to send/receive picture messages

Yea, I was bummed too after they said it was fixed.
I'd really love to use that ROM, loving the sense 3.0 features, but can't live without mms
I'm working on porting the 3.0 lockscreen and a few other applications to the OTA update that rmk released. This is the first time I've done something like this, though, so somebody might beat me to the punch as I'm taking my time to make sure everything is gravy.

I'm going to try to get my hands on an inc2 of my own so I can get some work done. Team BAMF has given me permission on the port and I got boot, haven't tested beyond that.

I just successfully ported sense 3.0 . No service yet though. I used a MT4G rom.
for those who want rmks rom with sense 3.0 lockscreen pull all the idlescreen.apks and fusion.apk from a sense 3.0 rom and htclockscreen.apk and put them into the rom before you boot
thats all it takes for 3.0 lockscreen? easy enough. thanks a lot
What ROM would you recommend grabbing these APKs from?
Hello,
I just updated my SGS2 to 2.3.4 today and unfortunately, I seem to have lost the part that I liked the most about the messaging app: the ability to change themes. I really hate the way it looks now and would really like the plain look of one of the themes back.
Is it possible to push the older themable messaging app. to this new firmware and get the theme functionality back?
If anyone has the messaging app that supports themes, could you please pull it and attach it here so I can give it a try?
Many thanks.
+1 I miss the black theme as it goes sooo much better with my current rom. I'd be interested to know if this can be done
True. Let's see if someone can help with this
I use GoSmsPro and it has a few themes
I understand that there are alternatives available but I wish to have the stock messaging app back which supports themes I would really appreciate it if someone could pull it from their phone.
I'd like to have the stock messaging app with themes too (I wa addicted to the "funny" style..., I'm a dumbass I know...)
There should be SOMEONE with the older app
Here's what I tried:
I tried downloading an older KE7 firmware from 18th May and extracted the Mms.apk/odex and MmsProvisioning.apk/odex files and pushed them to /system/app and tried rebooting but that didn't change anything
If I try INSTALLING the new Mms.apk file it says Application not installed even if I try remounting the system as rw
Discussed before in this thread, no joy so far:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1177494
In that thread, this guy said he had a solution, but never posted the .apk:

There HAS to be a solution

Thank you so much! You're the man!
For those of you who had trouble with odexed/deodexed, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159920
And get Darky's odex->deodexed converter and install that first using DarkyRom2 Tool (available free on market)
so annoying. i want my old themes back (especially the black one). i'm guessing the app got updated, so i'd be keen to just get the them part back in...
any solution to this?
i want it tooo!!!
there's nothing like this!!
I tried the solution posted above but once you go depdexed you lose hardware acceleration in the browser and it gets laggy as hell. I guess I'm gonna have to keep on hoping for an odex solution
You could go back to 2.3.3 , really what will you be missing out?

Try just pulling the MMS.apk from the ROM you like and putting it on your phone ... after backing up the one you have of course ...
Now of course this may not work, if it doesn't you would use something like winzip to open the .apk and pull out the images, and then open the target mms.apk and replace the appropriate images ... now this is a very simplified explanation ... You really should google .. "How to theme android apps"
Thanks watcher. I wish I could do all the things you and the other people do, just looks a bit complicated
