For the life of me I can't get this to work! I don't like to start any new
threads and I read all the ones addressing this topic but I'm still stuck.
1. Downloaded wired tether for root, downloaded sync to get the correct
driver, installed it in the proper location following the directions on the google
code site and everything seems ok. When I go to device manager everything
is fine. When I click on the app. I see that its trying to connect but then
gives me the error "network has limited connectivity"
When I go into "My networks" it shows connected with no problems, I know I'm
missing something simple here but I'm stuck, I disabled my wi-fi network,
tried making a new network but nothing works.
Any ideas??
No support for wired tether I have realized. Either try pdanet or easytether if you don't need to access https sites or get a paid version of either. Newest version of wifi tether is working though if usb is not a must for you in your tethering.
Scratch the no support for wired tether. Sorry bout that. The google app is supported and requires drivers that I couldn't find. If you search for the HTC Sync drivers, those work- install them and it works. Restart your comp then reconnect usb. Hope that helps.

Does anyone have a working version of that app yet?

Great question for the app section... To my knowledge Barnacle works for some but can be 'finicky'. Otherwise, no.
Yea I couldn't get barnacle to work

here is the the one I'm using for TeamFenix 1.7.1 which is based off of one of the CM nightlies, and I haven't had any problems at all, just downloaded, installed using Astro File Manager and was up an running on my netbook. http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre3-test3.apk
barnacle ususally works. just disable wpa_supplicant. go to barnacle's settings and check skip wpa_supplicant. ran it for a few hours on windows. works well.
Barnacle is the only one that people claims works. I haven't been able to get any Ad-hoc to work with Linux, but Windows works with Barnacle.
Not related to wireless, but there is built-in USB tethering which I prefer if I can get signal at my laptop. Just plug in the USB, go to Settings->Wireless & Networks->Tethering and check 'USB Tethering'. If it prompts for drivers tell Windows to manually use 'Remote NDIS Device for Internet Sharing' by 'Microsoft Incorporated'.
I'm trying to find a working wifi tether app for cm 6.0 as well. Ive tried Barnacle and it doesnt work even when I disable wpa supplicant. The computer sees it and connects but no webpages will load.
I also tried a few different wifi tether apk's from googles site and everyone makes my phone crash and reboot.
wireless app works for my ipad or any other device. I just can not get to tether to another android phone, it used to work no problem. The phone will not even recgonize the wireless network. Right now i have a samsung droid charge and tmobile g2x. I have also tried with a samsung vibrant. no combination works. But they will work with ipad and laptop. sometimes one phone might not have good service, so I would like to use wireless in them situations. Thanks
Hi,
I had this working earlier and all of a sudden it has stopped. I am able to connect to my Evo but once connected, I am not given access to the Internet. I have no clue why. Once I go back to my home wireless network, the Internet works just fine.
I am using the newest version of the wireless tether software and am using Fresh-evo-3.2.0.0. I am also using Widows 7 x64. It is set up as my home network to allow access as well. Cannot figure out what is going on. Seems like something is blocking it.
Will be back online in the am to check for replies and to answer any questions if need be so please do not think I am ignoring anyone that may reply to this tonight.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Guess we have no redeye's on this site, lol.
Anyways, I am up and ready to accept any help that can be given on this subject
Thanks in advance!
I had the same problem when I first flashed Fresh 3.2. I actually had to uninstall the pre8 wireless tether, and install pre7 wireless tether and it worked just fine.
I have tried pre7, pre8 and pre9 and none of them are giving me Net access. I can connect to all 3 with my laptop but that is as far as it goes. I have rebooted the phone after each uninstall as well. Still stumped...
Thanks for your reply!
Okay, I just tried this on another computer of mine and same thing...in the Network and Sharing Center it shows access type as having No Internet Access yet it is a private network and the computer is connected.
Please help?
I recently installed cyanogen 6.1.1 and installed wireless tether for root (the newest version, 2.06 I think.) . When I start tethering windows will find the network but it won't connect to the internet and the program is showing no data activity. The same thing happens if I try using the hotspot option in settings. I've already tried changing the network id, channel and I even reinstalled the app and no luck. PDAnet usb tethering is working fine but the built in usb tethering isn't (it makes a noise like a driver failed to install). Thanks for any input on getting any of them working correctly.

you may need to install the vision/dz drivers to get the official usb tether to work but I haven't dicked with the wifi in a while and don't really remember a lot about it.

I seem to remember there being conflicts when you have Wireless Tether installed since CM already has the hotspot. Try uninstalling Wireless Tether, rebooting and using hotspot

Where Can I find these drivers? And are they self installing? If not where do I put them?

I'm pretty sure I tried to use this before I installed Wireless Tether for Root.
Got it working, thanks. I uninstalled everything, rebooted my phone and computer. Some driver installed and both tethering options in settings are working now.
I'm having this problem as well. What do you mean by you uninstalled everything?
I'm having the same issue. Did you just uninstall the app and reboot?

Just fixed the issue. I uninstalled Wireless tether for root and rebooted phone. Opened up hotspot and it now works. Thanks!
When you use the inbuilt tether, did you get charged.
Has anyone found the Samsung drivers necessary to get the native USB tethering working? I see the drivers mentioned in the user manual, but haven't gotten a hold of them yet...
Manual:
Tethering
Tethered Mode allows your computer to obtain an external data connection by using the device’s wireless data services and a wired USB connection. Tap USB tethering to activate tethering mode.
Important: If you are using your device for Tethering, you may be prompted for additional drivers. The Samsung Mobile Driver for SPH-D710 contains the ADB, CDMA, & WiMAX drivers that are required for using either Tethering (Phone as a Modem) or development tools.
- Go to SAMSUNG and visit the D710 Product page, where you can navigate to the Download Center to obtain this driver.
- The online FAQ also provide detailed information about this driver.
- A wireless data connection can be done by using the device’s Sprint Hotspot feature.
1. Press > and tap > Wireless and network > Tethering.
2. Tap USB tethering to add a checkmark and activate the feature. The USB tethering icon is displayed at the top of your screen.

However at that website, all you can currently download is the manual - no drivers. Any ideas? Anybody know where to get the drivers?
Thanks
There is a 99.9% chance that this is disabled (by Sprint) anyway without using Sprint's $30/mo official method.
Wait for root and modded roms.

Well with a USB cable plugged in, you can turn the feature on, but the computer doesn't recognize it without the drivers. I'm hoping that's a good sign...

I would be thrilled if that were the case. It isn't likely, but, bigger things have been overlooked before.
Please report back with results.
I've got a call in to Samsung tier 3 support and was promised a call back with more info, so I'll keep you apprised.
OP Delivers!
Looks like they put the drivers up. At work right now, but I'll be testing them tonight!
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SPH-D710ZKASPR
Select "Software" next to "Manuals."
Unsurprisingly, it looks like Sprint has disabled USB tethering.
I've installed the drivers, and the computer and phone successfully connect. Once USB tether is enabled, however, the phone will drop both 4G and 3G connections and throw up the following (see attached screenshot):
Error 67: Registration Failure. Your Sprint data service username and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again.

I know the software/ drivers are configured properly because I can pass the internet connection on to the computer when the phone is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi.
Really disappointed (but not surprised)...

Not easytether, but PDANet works.
is it free? and doesn't require root?
I haven't tried Easytether on the phone yet, but I can confirm PDAnet works and is free , although it's limited to http only and no https unless you buy the paid version. Easytether changed their application so now it has like a week trial before it shuts down.
what i hate about easytether and PDAnet is you have to have the client installed on the machine already for that to work. i liked how my EVO (rooted) had the option to USB tether on any computer... guess i gotta wait until some good ROMs come out.
Just root the phone people and install wifi tether. Works flawlessly

Yeah, I've tried rooting the phone and then using the wifi tether and it worked for a while then it stopped working. Now I can't get it to connect to the PC.
Would be nice if there was a better way of tethering for free

If you use PDANet, the phone with PDANet installed will automatically detect if the computer has the client installed or not. If it does NOT have the client already installed, it will prompt you to download the windows EXE onto the phone, and then you can install the client onto the computer from the EXE it downloads onto your phone.
It's saved me a few times working out in the field.
I have the Sprint Hotspot hack that allows 4G or 3G to tether via Wifi without the plan. I would like USB tether as well to work, is there something that uses the NDIS instead of their own client? I know both MAC and Windows work with the NDIS device sharing... If not, what's the best one that will tether 4G via USB?
FL29 radio and im running GB 2.3.6 (dont care much about the ICS / Jelly Bean unless they have both 3G and 4G tether'able via Wifi and USB)
Anybody have played with ICS and gotten the 3G and 4G thetherable at least via Wifi? Wifi thether for root didn't work for me, reason why I went back to 2.3.6 and the FL29 Odexed SpotHot fix.
Which OS, with Gingerbread just root it and download the Wired Tether apk, from the same people that make the Wifi tether .apk I really wish they re worked the code for ICS or JB
YES YOU MUST ROOT THE PHONE!!
Otherwise Custom roms all seem to have USB and wifi tethering enabled.

Im not using Wifi Tether for Root users, doesn't work on my Galaxy S2 with 4G...
Just a FYI... every stock ROM for this phone has always had working USB tethering in the settings.

Forgot to mention I am on Boost, they don't offer tethering service for me
Im trying to run my internet through my relatively new laptop. It is a DV6-7000. I have a Galaxy Nexus running CM 4.2.2 M2. My intention is to run the internet through Bluetooth but i seem to be failing. My laptop has Intel Centrino Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + high speed.
I have already paired the devices. I can see my phone through laptop and the laptop through my phone. and its "connected". From that though, it just doesn't work. My laptop only gives me 3 options when i click on it and they are send files, play mp3, and sync pim data with phone book. When i click on my laptop through my phone under profiles it only lists "Media Audio" with a check mark. Both these devices support what i want.... so im a bit lost at what is going on. In my laptop i go to lower right, and right click the bluetooth symbol and hit join Personal Area Network, it then pops up the bluetooth devices list again and that itself does nothing different but show me the 3 choices from before. S then i abandoned CM built in tether al together and download a PAN bluetooth app. It wont even connect.
At this point im thinking its my PC because plenty of people seem to be able to have a bluetooth internet connection... which makes my situation really odd. Any help would be appreciated.
btw all drivers are up to date.
PDAnet+, there's a fee associated with it but it's the only way I know how to tether via Bluetooth successfully, and I believe it doesn't require root access on your device. You'll need an application on your phone, and another application (or piece of software if you will) on your laptop. I know PDAnet+ supports USB tether and if you can, I would suggest using that. Bluetooth tether eats at your battery, not as bad as Wifi tether though.
Free Option: There is an app named Wireless Tether for root users but it requires root access, and I don't know if it has support for the laptop. I was currently checking for a post for more info on a tablet, so if I find out more I'll be sure to PM you with more information.
