HTC Desire/Froyo 2.2
I used to use Ringdroid to create and assign a few custom ringtones to a few contacts, then I discovered I didn't need to use a program to do that (simply create folders on the SD card, much like on my winmo devices) so I uninstalled the app and copy all my winmo ringtones to the SD card, but I have the following problems:
1. I cannot assign ringtones to some contacts - they always revert to "Default" immediately.
2. I can assign to others, but some exhibit this weird behaviour. For example, I have assigned a ringtone A to person A, and when I assign a ringtone B to person B, person A's ringtone got changed to that of person B as well, I have to change person A's back manually (but then person B's remains unchanged).
Anyone knows what's wrong? Thank you.
I have a similar problem with ringtones assigned to contacts.
After a few days (or after some particular action which I haven't discovered yet) all my assigned ringtones revert to the default and the default ringtone is changed as well to something completely different.
It's getting really annoying...

I was able to get individual ringtones to work on the Kjam wm5 but I am unable to do so on the Mogul. I go to contacts, edit, ringtone, and then select the ringtone. The ringtone then plays until the end of the ringtone with no way to get it to quit.
I have tried several ringtones but when i reopen the contact no ringtone is selected.
Is this a wm 6 issue or is there another way to select the individual contact ringtones?
Has anyone got it to work and if so how?

I was wondering if anyone knows if the TP2 had the capabilities to have a different ringtone for each person so that when they call AND text it is the same ringtone for that specific contact, instead of defaulting back to the main ringtone for texts. I have tried searching for this on google but I have only found solutions for this problem if I have a blackberry. For example, I would like Song A to play for Person A when they text AND call. I would like Song B to play for Person B when they text AND call. Right now all it will do is to play Song A when Person A calls and Song B when Person B calls. When either Person A or B texts me, it will play Song C. Is there something I am missing on what to do to fix this? Is there a setting I can change or is there a hack that I can use? Any help is appreciated.
PhoneAlarm lets you assign custom tones based on email or SMS subject & sender.
(I'm starting to feel like a shill for PA, but it is the only thing I have to contribute at this point.)
There is no "built-in" method for setting per-person Text ringers. (I used to have this feature on VzW's "The V" a few years back, and haven't seen it built-into a phone since).
As the other poster mentions, there are various applications that can be installed after-the-fact to provide this feature for each contact for text messages.
Definitely need to try PhoneAlarm myself... hadn't seen that one yet.
Hi guys,
Been doing a bit of searching, and can't find out if it's possible to choose a MP3 for email notifications. Could do it on the HD2 easy, and have a different tone for all notifications.
I can set a ringtone no probs, set the sms tone ok, just the email one I need a lift on.
Cheers
Darrin
did anyone find out how to do this ?
Not with the standard mail applications installed on the Desire. With K9mail it's possible.
of course you can do it.
Create a folder on the root of the sd card called 'notifications' (exactly like that but obviously without the quotes)
Put your MP3 in there.
In settings > sound and display, set the notification there. That is the setting that the default mail program uses.
then, to keep it different for SMS, go into the messaging application, and press menu>settings.
set the SMS tone there.
do the same in Google mail. open, menu, settings, set tone for google mail
this is extremely simple because nearly all programs have their own notification settings, and only the mail program seems to use the default one in settings.
how much more simple can it be?
That's a workaround, which i did actually know, but it doesnt alter the fact that you have the same tone for all other default notifictions, as well as the mail notifications.....
I just got my Desire HD and that seems to work for the the likes of GMAIL etc but Exchange just has this little beep and I can't see how to change this?
Post in the Desire HD forum for a start
Ok to V8Dave Eddy is correct as this may or may not work with your phone you are welcome to try it but if it doesn't might be better for you to get an answer in the DHD forum..
Anywho ---- There are 2 different notifications within the system that you can set .. The first is in settings>sound>notifications --- please note this will work for everything on your phone that needs a notification -- unless selected differently by program.. Your email will now have this notification .. To ensure it works start mail menu(hard button)>more>settings and turn the notification sound on
The second is hidden within the SMS app itself so start message>menu(hard button)>notification sound.. the SMS will now have a different sound to other notifications you may also be able to do the same with other apps i haven't checked them to be honest...
Now it should play seperate tones for sms and email and you can set your ringtone differently too ..
If that fails download LED me know http://www.xda-developers.com/android/customise-notifications-with-led-me-know/ from the market That should enable different notifications for several apps in one go
Sorry for a noob question.
I can assign a custom ringtone from /sdcard/media/ringtones/ to any contact (Google contacts) and I see that contact has a custom ringtone assigned but when a contact with a custom ringtone calls me - it' still plays a default ringtone which I set in "Settings". Why is it so?
P.S. HTC Desire, Vodafone.nl, Android 2.1-update1(1.19.161.5)
Bump-bump...
I found some posts in google groups discussing the same problem for different phones/firmwares. Solutions are: align phone numbers in contacts to be the same as it shown during incoming call: no "(", spaces between digits, etc. I tested different variants - no luck, it recognizes the person who calling me, shows correct name and photo, a phone number for incomuing is exactly the same as it written in contacts, but ringtone is not custom but default anyway. I changed custom MP3s to predefined ringtons - still the same, default ringtone for all incoming calls.
Does anybody here have the same problem? Or, at least, could You suggest me another application instead of standart "People"?
Upd: Fixed. A solution was simple but efficient - the phone should be rebooted after importing of contacts and setting custom ringtones.
you can also go to music and selecting the song then menu - ringtone for contact
Hi,
I changed the ringtone of one of my friends to a different one (in contacts settings). I was under the impression that this only changes the RINGtone (when the contact calls me). However, it also changed the notification sound of WhatsApp for example for this particular contact.
As you can only choose Ringtones in the menu, I now get an annoying ringtone everytime the contact sends me a message.
I also can't revert the changes as I can't find "Default" in the menu.
Has anyone an idea how to fix this (at least get the default settings back)?
Edit: Omg it was in whatsapp itswlf. Can be clo
