[idea]p750, VGA rom and experiment with p565 cam software. - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Need your help, Asus users.
I need whole p565 OEM dump to make that experiment succeedeed(if it's possible).
upd:
ok, i managed to make dump from abi file, with p835abisplit2 and then nb0_kitchen for p525, pkgtool was able to retrieve some packagaes, some dsms are gone, so it is hard way without proper dump...testing...
--------------------
I managed to make p565 cam software working with p750 and VGA rom.
few facts:
-p750 has no native software for VGA roms(well...),
-p565 is VGA device and have VGA cam software then.
-only way for having cam soft and vga on p750 is using coolcam software,
-asus' soft has much better quality of photos taken than coolcam. Also, native software operates in lowlight conditions in MUCH MUCH better way, than cc(sports mode is working fine).
-pictures are up to 10x smaller, than with coolcam(at superfine(!)).
- native soft works MUCH faster, than cc.
Point of topic:
-assimilation of p565 cam soft to maximize quality of taken photos.
Done:
-quick test of stripped p565 cam software on p750 from VERY old, partial rom dump.
It works, photos are taken.
Problems:
-gui takes 1/4 of screen(like nonscaled qvga, what's weird, as p565 is VGA device.. :E) works fine, advanced options of cam driver are working, though,
-no native p750 cam resolutions now - no reg entries for full spectrum of these.
- autofocus is NOT working(missing..something).
Todo:
-Make it working....
No files so far;
i can provide testfiles after first response.

Hermes WM6 Camera, Zoom doesnt work :(

I have XDA live 2.0, and i'm trying to use the camera feature on my phone, and in the standard camera mode, the zoom feature doesnt work. is there a fix for this, or could somebody point me in the latest version of the xda, or the latest and most stable release of WM6. There's a new version of WM6 every week, you guys cook roms like crackhead cook crack. If there is a fix, could somebody do me a favor and send it to my email, ( [email protected] ) if not, its a-okay.

I believe that if you have the phone in 2.0 MP mode, you can't use the digital zoom, however if you drop the resolution down a bit, it will allow you to then go all the way up to 8x zoom.

That's in the HTC Manual! Zoom only works for the 'S' (small) resolution setting in the Tytn. WM5, Wm6, Photon.... you won't be able to zoom with 1M or 2M resolutions

Nothing like read the manual
but this info isn't in my M3100 from Orange manual.
bad translators from Orange Spain doing so bad manuals...
The HTC camera is crap,
what is the point having a zoom on low res images, it will make them worse than what they are.....
Bad Design imho,
Maybe I should release another version of Black 2.0 as well (No Camera Policy) for work professionals that are not allowed to use camera's in their office buildings. This version will have the camera application and all drivers removed from the OS which then does not violate the policy.
Cheers,
jas
yes. = 8x Zoom [M] = 4x [L] = 4x
cannot zoom with [1M] & [2M]
I use coolcamera, it can work!
whats cool camera?

[Solution] Solve resolution issue on Samsung i780 [i780 owner MUST READ]

I know many Samsung I780 owner is facing the resolution problem on that 320x320 display.
Some program is not work or identify the wrong resolution on it.
For example, the SlingPlayer mobile is recognized my i780 as 240x240 display and cannot support fullscreen playback with a small windows look like 160x160.
For this reason i tried Tweek2K2, but i did not support on non-Vga machine and Force High Resolution 1.65 but it didn't helpful to improve the screen layout.
Finally I try the old software “Nydiot Virtual Display 5.02” it solved all the resolution issue on my Samsung i780,
*** You should install the 96dpi respack, if you have any display problem ****
Now I can emulator to 320x240 and 240x320 resolution without dropping the system performance. (use 100% zoom, don’t scaler the screen)
**** You souhld type the "240" by your own in the combine box ****

wow,... thats a good find.. im downloading now and will post my results here later!

After install the virtual display, the RealVga is useless, as the Nydiot Virtual display support 320x320 of i780 golden resolution. And i can switch to any resolution without reset the phone.
I am highly recommend the i780 owner to install this software.

Would be interested on how you managed to get 240x320 res. When I tried this software on fresh install no Real VGA nothing I only have opion for 320 or above res. There is no 240 in the drop down list in settings, Also messed up my icons in the program and settings screen.
Anyone else had any luck with this? I think I might have to stick with Real VGA unless I'm doing something wrong.
hi
i tried it extensively .. first i couldnt find the 240 res option and second .. until someone points out the ideal settings i wont be switching from realvgajust yet ! good find none the less !

if you type 240 on the combo box you'll get the 240. it supports 240x320 and 320x240. it's usefull in case you have some SW that do not work on default resolution.

for OMNIA i900 users only !!!

hi
plz ppl with omnia answer these questions..as many ppl wantto get this phone it would help all of us knowing some interesting questions about it
1)does real vga work on it
2)is there an issue using programs especially games on it
3)have you tried opera 9.5 if so how does it render
4)is the 5mp camera as goodas nokia n95 camera?
5)can you post some screen shots so we can get a better idea of the actual resolution
6)hows the gps functionality??
plz answer as many questions as you can!
thanks
1) the screen is WQVGA so that means Wide Quarter VGA, so no... it's not VGA
2)because of the wierd screen resolution (400x240), games tend to only work in landscape mode... if you try to turn them rightside up, the buttons won't work on the touchscreen (they're messed up)
3)haven't tried opera...
4)in my opinion it isn't as good.. although it has more options with wich to play, it's kind of laggy (you press the button, you wait for the autofocus and then it takes the pic) - but maybe if you fool around a bit with the settings you'll get better results
5)i'll post pictures made with it and some pictures of it tomorrow perhaps
6)the gps is actually assisted-gps enabled and it works pretty good... i even got gps signal inside (and not near a window) - iGo 8 works fine, so does navigon and garmin, haven't tried tomtom route66 or others...

It's for PocketPC, so I'd just try. Only the resolution of the Diamond is different (well, maybe also camera drivers). What does it do? show the image recording of the front camera on screen?
In general, when you see a program is for PocketPC, it will work on most HTC and other windows mobile devices. Sometimes there's a restriction because of the resolution used (older programs often use 320x240, which doesn't look too pretty on the 800x480 screen of the X1), but most of the times they will work.
Like in 'normal' Windows there may be a restriction because of the type of program. Maybe you need .Net compact (newest version is often installed in X1 roms) or some program or driver. If that's the case, it should be mentioned at the download or info page of a program imo.
Some programs are written for a certain type of Windows Mobile (2003, 2003 SE, WM5, WM6.1 or WM6.5) and use instructions that aren't available on older WM versions. Usually you'll find such info on the info or download page of the program as well.
If you're not sure whether the program will run or not: just try . The chance it will leave your device broken is very small and again: if the program is that specific and shouldn't be used on another device, it is usually mentioned somewhere (for instance HardSPL and roms are device specific, but then again those aren't really programs).
Let's look at the program info:
Description :
Use this Make Up Mirror to make oneself up and when no real Mirror is available. The program activates the Front Camera and you see yourself. Only for HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro.
# Image from the Front Camera, suitable as Mirror
# After closing and on starting the usual camera function the rear camera is active again
# For fast access the program can be laid upon an button
# Daily utilization as Make-up-Mirror
# Only for HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro and compatible devices*
This program works only on devices from HTC and identical devices, e.g. HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Pro, O2 XDA Diamond, T-Mobile MDA Compact IV and future devices from HTC.
System requirements:
# System: Windows Mobile for WM6.1
# Screen: 240x320 Pixel or higher
# Processors: Samsung, Intel® PXA XScale, StrongARM, OMAP, Qualcom
# Newest technology: Program developed in Visual Studio.Net.
Compatibility:
Pocket PC Windows Mobile 6.0
Pocket PC VGA resolution (fullscreen 640x480)
Pocket PC Square VGA resolution (480x480)
Pocket PC Square QVGA resolution (240x240)
Pocket PC QVGA resolution (320x240)
Pocket PC QVGA resolution (240x320)

The info says you need WM6.1 or above: check
you need resolution 320x240 or above: check
you can use a device with a Qualcomm chip: check
supported resolutions don't include 800x480, but this probably means that 640x480 will be stretched a bit or a black bar will be displayed. I think the program will still work.
why don't you simply use the Camera Application of you X1?
In the Camera Settings you can choose which camera should be used, Front or Rear Camera. Is guess its the same effect an you can save the Price of 2 Euro.

Excited about possible video recorder cab from the Xperia X2

I know that we can get better quality video recording out of the TP2, with the first WinMo phone shooting WVGA @ 30fps with the exact same hardware (minus cam module), I'm excited to see if someone can work their magic to incorporate better recording from the TP2.
Anyone else?
Cyph
I too am curious about this. I have actually always been curious as to whether the video capabilities are more software dependent or hardware... Though if the phone is capable of displaying the video on the viewfinder at WVGA at 30fps it should theoretically be possible to record at that quality. Anyways, we'll see what crops up later
Not at all

Unfortunately the above statement is not at all true. Recording depends heavily on the camera hardware in terms of possible frame rate at a given resolution. Furthermore real-time compression and encoding is a significantly different proposition to the CPU than decoding and playback. This is not to say the TP2 hardware may not be capable of doing better than it does, just that playback capabilities are no indication.
Dennis
Like I said, I don't know how much the camera module affects it. And what I meant by theoretically is that if it can display that on the viewfinder at that res then theoretically it could be recorded in raw format (as long as the transfer to the memory could handle the speed), but it would not be practical by any means. But if the x2 is capable of it and IF the ONLY difference is the camera module, and IF the camera module is just the sensor and no graphics processing then it could possibly happen. And I'd love to see it. But neither am I going to hold my breath.

You see minutes 4:29 ..... But WVGA recording resolution is 720x480? or 800x480?
Thanks
The Xperia X2 has the same CPU as the Rhodium and in theory the video recording abilities can therefore be ported. The drivers for video recording must be extracted and put into the Rhodium ROM.
Even if the Rhodium camera or drivers doesn´t handle WVGA widescreen recording it´s possible with some development work to use better encoding drivers - i.e record VGA but let a good MP4 encoder with good quality do the encoding job (i.e replace the original HTC video encoder with a better one).
In this case the original HTC camera application is retained but with replaced encoders. The user only sees a quality difference - the handling of the camera app is the same otherwise.

That's definitely be a good thing. Maybe it could even up the fps a little bit.

Well if we can get someone on that I'd be willing to pay (big - ROM COOKERS LISTENING?? :-D ) for the capability to enhance the video recording capabilities. I just need an additional 10 fps and maybe another 200 kb/s bit rate for excellent video. That would make the video recorder to 30 fps @ ~ 1Mb/s..niiice.
If they can accomplish WVGA or even D1 (720x480) that would be cool too (or better).
I wish I had the skills/tools to do that, I'd be all over it like white on rice! LOL
Cyph
Personally I don't need 30fps (though it'd be nice). I'd be happy with a video standard such as 23.976fps or whatnot. 20 does look stuttery. Just a few more would fix that. Well. Let's hope someone looks into it. Though it might be necessary that we wait until the x2 is actually released
