[Q] Help with root - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so i been lurking around XDA for sometime now and i own an HTC Evo which i love, and would love more if i could root it with some cool Roms but every tutorial i have seen, I get stuck or it just gets too complicated or it's outdated and i just quit because i really don't want to brick or damage this phone. I don't know if it's me or the tutorial probably both or just me but too me this feels like rocket science so if anyone could help me root my phone i would very much appreciate it, I can Chat through Gmail or a different messenger.
Sorry if i posted in the wrong section but i figured since this is the development section mostly everyone in it must know how to root.

Check this thread out from android forums. http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies-extras.html

I recommend using the unrevoked method if you do not have the new h-boot. Whatever method you end up using just make sure you read/follow the directions carefully.

going to try out the method you posted since my Evo has 3.29 and not the new hboot

Best for rooting evo

I was just wondering what would be the best way to root your htc evo. I'm a noob, and looking to try this out. Plus what can I do when it's rooted?
Please tell me you don't have 2.2 installed...
Search the forums. There are at least 3 different methods currently. If you have Android version 2.2 (Froyo) already, there is no root method yet.
Posting such a vague question like that is not noobish, its lazy. Put forth effort before asking for help.

G2/new kernal for wifi update?

Since the update I have not been able to overclock my G2, first visionary gives me abillity to still have root access (thumbs up) but I cannot lay the kernal used to overclock to 1.42ghz. any help appreciated.

same thing happen to me, i tried re-doing the process wouldnt work. so what i think the way i got it back to 1.42hz was by going to setting/ application/visionary and just clear out the data and either re-doing the process or go back to setcpu. im sure it had something to do with visionary

Are you in perm root? If u are, you should be able to just download the vision_oc.ko file around here and run the script in the terminal

Why not post in one of the relevant threads, i.e. for the overclocking kernel or the overclocking kernel module ?
havent done the perm-root yet, im afraid i might mess up on something and then my phone wont work, but then again i do have insurance with best buy
please post this stuff in the right threads. this has been answered numerous times in the respective threads. so why not search those thread instead of making a new one in the DEV forum. thanks
1. You spelled "kernal" wrong
2. You are posting in the wrong section
3. There is a newly compiled kernel in the relevant thread. You need to run it each time you boot.
And to the people telling him he's in the wrong section: why don't you actually try help him. Its no better than posting in the wrong section when you make pointless posts like that

Doesn't that encourage people to post wherever they like though, because if they post in the wrong section then they'll get the answer anyway ?
Hahaha, calm down there high speed. I just came back to Android after 2 years. But thanks for the help with my on boarding, the info is useful.

Rooting and UnRooting Sprint HTC EVO 4G.

I'm thinking of rooting my EVO but I don't know how to and I don't know how to unroot if I had too. I'm hoping to get some good info and maybe some links..

Read thru the Dev sec there are threads on how to unroot
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
All the info is here. You are in the right place. Check out the dev section and you will find exactly what you are looking for. I started right where you are at and came here, but instead of asking people to show me the links, I read and read and read every post in the dev section that had to do with rooting and unrooting. Now both are very easy for me. I suggest that you go to the dev section and look for [ROOT] at the beginning of the thread title and read them all. That's what everyone else did and I seriously doubt someone is going to give you all the links to root your EVO.
Why would you want to unroot your EVO? I've never wanted to go back.

You can start your search for info HERE.
And when you are done reading that you can try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473373 . Which is currently the thread right below this one. There's probably literally hundreds of threads here on rooting. You have to read...especially the stickies.

Basic help please.

Hey there, I'm still relatively new to the whole android scene. I understand the basics for most other phones but when it comes to HTC, I get lost. I just purchased a G2 and I've heard there are some pretty good stuff available for it as long as you do it right. So, I guess my question is, how do I do it right? I know there's something about unlocking your bootloader and getting s-off but thats about it. If it's already been posted on here, sorry.
Thanks!
