The good news is it isnt due to YAFFS errors anymore from what i've seen, meaning it should be a simple fix.

Yup, i have a 8925 tilt.... I have http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837706no choise but to change the build, I'll use fat free rls5 and see how things go on....
Edit: I don't like odexed builds cause i can't theme them! but.... its a smooth and snappy build! Scoot I think u're right, its something about ur release because I've got no freezes, fcs or reboots, for now, but as I always say (for experience ! ) maybe im talking too early.... I'll try it for a couple of hours and post results....
ok ok folowing aceoyame's advice, FYI:
Model: Att Tilt 8925
Build (for now): Fat free RLS5
Kernel: l1qu1d's 11-12-10
Instalation: [email protected] / [email protected]
Apps i use a lot: gmail, facebook, ebuddy, music pro, google maps, xda app, os monitor, rogue tools, astro, OfficeSuite Pro, etc ( cant remember... they're a lot! LOL)
Widgets: SD share, power control, Weather Widget (stoled from warbyte's build! cause he made it work on landscape mode!), google search, music pro widget, facebook widget.
I had another question: when i boot, there's a line that says somethng like mount MD mtdblock3 or something and then: block "89" is bad is that normal???
Edit2: had a FC over system.android but this time it didnt reboot! I just pressed Force Close and system started up normally... Rebooted, FC on officesuite, astro and other apps where missing.... Im so confused at this point... dunno whats causing the problem....

It's probably for the best, i wouldn't be using it either if it wasn't stable but luckily i have no issues. Like i said if i was getting the same issues it would be easier to solve.
That is the problem, both of the CM dev's are not experiencing the exact issues many people are referring to. I think if whoever was having the issues detailed what kernel they are using, how they installed and a time frame of when it happened and what apps are installed it would help a lot to figuring out whats going on.

Yep, that's normal, don't worry unless you get loads of them, i get 2 bad blocks at the minute but yaffs automatically doesn't use these.
The only other thing i will say is that i only use 1 home screen with no more then 2 widgets loaded because it saves a lot of ram, it can easily be a widget such as sd share causing the issue. It sounds like your quite settled on fat free froyo but if you do try cyanogenmod again try using it for a while with minimal widgets loaded, like google search and power control for example.

Ok... reduced to 3 (cant use any less!! ) removed officesuite pro, remoded facebook widget and SD share widget... actually i dont need it if I can unmount my SD but im too lazy... I ended up with a more stable system! I noticed that if I run a lot of apps at the same time (music, fb, maps, wifi, gps, etc) the charge stays at -30 mAh even with the phone plugged in! I think the problem was migrating from donut to froyo! i was used to have a lot of apps loaded, and a lot of homescreens and widgets....

Is there anyway to TOTALLY remove sense UI + widgets and all the rest of the HTC crap?
I know about disabling it, but that doesn't really stop processes from running. Of course there's taskiller and autostarts but how about a rom that is vanilla 2.1 for Evo 4G??
I've found that battery life GREATLY improves when all that HTC crap is killed.
yesterday i had 15 hours and was at 20% yet.. and that was after pandora, mp3, cellmapper (runs continually on way home from work for 30 min)
What are you looking to get out of the phone? 2-3 days? I carry an extra battery just in case
This isn't my first Android phone, no I'm not expecting 2-3 days. One FULL day would suffice. My Moto Droid overclocked to 800Mhz, can last through the entire day sometimes no charge required until the next morning. Something on par with that would suffice. I need to be able to use my phone as I normally would (i.e. like my Droid) without disabling Wifi and BT. 4G is always disabled on my phone.
My point is, I've found it's all the HTC widgets, and garbage running the background that's really putting a dent in the battery. If we had a Vanilla Android rom (for those who want it, I'm sure i'm not the only one) I think we'd see a lot better battery life.

Thanks, good stuff. Did you get those 15 hrs before or after you removed apps from that link you provided.
This is always going to be asked. If someone doesn't have a phone with HTC Sense UI then they want it and mod their phone to look like Sense UI. If someone has it stock on their phone then they want it off. Its just the way it goes. It does eat more battery running but it looks great to most people.
I believe we are waiting for HTC to release the kernel source before an AOSP ROM is ported.
I'd LOVE a vanilla EVO ROM. Coming from ADP1 > Droid > N1, the EVO doesn't even feel like an android device to me.
Use AutoKiller or Auto Memory Manager and not a "taskkiller". Taskkillers can do more harm than good. Example: You have it set to keep killing off a program that is restarted over and over thus killing battery. Set Autokiller to Extreme and enjoy hardly any apps running once they finish. Also, have you tried not syncing so often ie mail/Facebook/Peep/Twitter? The HTC stuff shouldn't be using enough to make a noticeable difference. Or at least, I don't notice anyways. Also, turn off "Always On Mobile Network". That, hands down, is the best thing you can do to save battery. Next would be Location. Turn off Wirelesss Networks. Use the GPS option. I leave mine ON all the time. It only really turns on when you are using it or an app needs it and then it turns off. It doesn't use as much juice as the Wireless Network option.
But if you want to disable HTC Sense, download an app called Home Switcher from the Market. Set the default to "Home". Click Launch. Enjoy.

But of course, that does absolutely nothing to actually disable Sense. NOTHING you can do will disable it. This is just using an alternate home launcher instead of Rosie from Sense, but you still have all of Sense's parts running in the background and heavily integrated into the OS.b

Not completely true. Once Android realizes that Sense is not doing anything it stops it. Somethings you can't stop. But the OP wanted Sense off.

Linpack while using Sense as your home screen results in high 4s
Linpack while using AWD Launcher as home screen results in ~6.9s
I understand what you're saying about Sense being built into the framework, and I agree with you. I don't like it either. But using an alternate home app does make a difference.
I have a rom I am working on. I have removed sense and all sprint apps. It runs a lot faster and battery is a lot better.

I know I've read somewhere that homescreen icons disappearing after reboot is inherent to Froyo and TW. However, this only happened to me after installing Bonsai 3.0.1 using the twcrushd launcher. I've been using Bonsai since 1.1.4. The TW launcher in Bonsai 3.0 did not have this behavior.
I didn't hear anyone else talk about this, so I assumed it was just me. I even Odin'd back to stock EB13, re-rooted, and installed Bonsai 3.0.1. Still no change. Other launchers do not seem to have this issue.
So I guess my question is, is this normal behavior using twcrushdlauncher?
Just to make it clear, it's not that I get the default icon placeholders waiting for the SD card. The icons are completely gone.
Same exact thing for me. Moving back to phone works to get them back but then tried to get them to stay after moving back to sd, no luck. I'm guessing the card may need to be reformatted. I hope I'm wrong.

Thanks for the heads up. I just changed all my apps back to phone memory. Guess till we figure it out, just need to deal with the memory hit.
Grr... I won't be able to fit all my apps on the phone memory. Does Darktremor's Apps2SD work on our phones? Wonder if that would fix anything...
I had apps in phone memory disappearing, so just went back to TW3.

No other launchers don't have this issue. I've had serious fc and apps getting screwed up w/ launcherpro in the past. I really liked the twcrushd, but I just tried go launcher ex and I think I've found my new launcher. After 2 days it seems fast, stable, and I like it's features and style.
hmm
I have noticed this for a while with any froyo rom. The icons do show a generic image on the launcher after boot....but, they do eventually display the proper image and work correctly. Sometimes I have to restart my launcher, but within 2 minutes they fix themselves. It seems to me thats the last task thats completed after booting up. I have never had them disappear for longer than 2 minutes
Launcher pro fixed it for me. Actually, regular twlauncher worked too. Guess it was just twcrushdlauncher. Thanks for the help!

Yeah that was usually the case for me too, but I left it on for hours before realizing they weren't there. Also, when they appeared late, there would usually be a generic android logo placeholder. This was not the case here. I really tried everything as described in the OP.

Yup, me too. Put TW3 back on and restored data from Titanium and all my homescreens were back to before upgrade.

I'm using Go Launcher EX and loving it. Unfortunately I don't have twlauncher anymore either (except in a nandroid backup somewhere) but I'm sure you can find it. You can even take the apk from an older version of bonsai (inside the zip file in system/app).

I've gotten a couple PM's that people love the ROM, and I plan on making a EC07-Nuckin-2 package.
My thoughts thus far:
New Kernel (imnuts)
Scribble boot animation
Zeam Launcher to replace TouchWiz (Zeam is super memory efficient)
Dolphin Mini to replace Browser
Better instructions, including a TAR to use with Odin
Link to alternate framework-res.apk (trailblazer's) to restore the buttons
What do you think would make this ROM cooler/faster/awesome...er?

I flashed this rom a few days ago, and so far it is great. I love how clean and fast it is.
The only problems I have had are some issues it apps FCing. I use these apps daily and was wondering if anybody has had any luck fixing FC problems? I would hate to do it, but if I can't get these apps working right I might have to reflash DL17 again.
Here are some of the apps I have come across so far that FC every time:
-Wells Fargo Mobile
-Stock Android Browser
-Movies
I am sure there are other, but these are the only ones that I have found so far that I use on a regular basis. If anybody has any insight on this it would be great.

Can I assume you wiped dalvik on install? If so, I'd start by clearing data on each of the affected apps in settings/applications/manage applications. And if that fails, try deleting the apps themselves, along with any data stored on SD card and reinstall fresh. Generally fc issues are due to the way the app interacts with the system.

Yeah, the browser is not that big of a deal, I switched to Opera and like it alot better than stock anyway. I ran the clean EC07 first before I switched to your rom, but I only had it on for a couple of hours so I don't know if that one had the FC issues as well. I don't think there is enough difference between the two to cause these issues. Yours is just more debloated.

Yes, I wiped cache, dalvik cache, and did factory reset/wipe data before I installed the rom, then wiped the caches again after just to be sure. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling all the apps I was having problems with. I will try clearing the app data and removing data from SD card tonight and let yall know if anything changes.
---------- Post added at 09:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:12 PM ----------
Ok, tried clearing data, uninstalling, wiping SD card, and reinstalling apps. Didn't work, they are all three still FCing. I think it has something to do with them accessing network/data. Browser doesn't FC until I try to load a page, Wells Fargo doesn't FC until I try to log in, and Flixter movies FCs as soon as I open it. All thee times they are trying to use network. Doesn't matter if I am on 3G for Wifi.
Just a thought, I don't know if that actually has anything to do with it.
One more thought, is it possible to have your phone hooked up to ADB in usb debugging while running an app to see why it is getting a force close?

Yes. As circa said, logcat
Commands are as follows
Adb shell
(it will start daemon. Once that is done, you will get a hashtag)
Logcat
(wait for it to scroll, then after it settles down, start the affected app)

Hello,
I would like to be able to reply on development threads without making the 10 post count, if possible. I'm testing different ROMs (Currently ICS 4.0.3) and I've figured out some bugs and (hopefully fixes) which I would like to share with others.
Sorry if you find this rude, but since this is one of the places I'm allowed to post I'll add some bulletpoints with what I would reply to, mainly because I will forget all this later. If you decide to delete this thread, please post those as a reply to this thread:
[ROM] ICS 4.0.3 CM9, b0.2.5 (Jan 06, 2012) [Camera] [Data++ & Stock hboot]
Some bugs I found & fixes
- Grey icon on wireless: Try installing a terminal emulator, and ping a local device (e.g. 192.168.1.1 or w/e your network/subnets are). If this works, try manually setting the IP address and DNS servers (DNS is MORE important). If you want you can either use google DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) or (if using linux) do a cat /etc/resolv.conf to find the DNS servers from your network.
- Email app works, but no syncing (Exchange & IMAP not working, tried with SSL/TLS and Accepted Certs). Gives arbitary error when setting up account (Couldn't open connection to server.), or a java exception:
Can't safely connect to server. (javax.net.ssl.SSLProtocolException) ... external/openssl/ssl/s23_clnt.c:6830
- Power Button & Optical Button & Volume Down = Phone reboots instead of saving screenshot.
- No video capturing, no panoramic photo.
- Will try Gtalk audio/video call, though video shouldn't work.
- A bit groggy behaviour from this new launcher.
Maybe try upgrading to kernel 3.x ?
IMHO, no way on disabling that. I think you'll be ok, by the nightfall you will be able to post in development. All you have to do is to recommend ics as daily rom to 8 more noons here and you're good to go.
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using XDA App.
Hey thanks for your reply,
I hope a mod can get in here and tell me the opossite
I will however start replying to threads.
I'm using the stock kernel, I don't have a grey icon when using wireless, IMAP is working fine for me, I don't know why you're holding down the optical button when taking a screen shot. volume down and the power button will work just fine.
Video capture and panoramic not working are a given, as the camera 'fix' is a hack. And the launcher, as well as the ROM, is still in beta so I suppose you can expect it to be less than smooth. It may well have something to do with the lack of video support, I don't know.
I'm aware they're in beta! That's why I'm pointing out the bugs, and not saying it's a bad rom or sth. I\ve reflashed the rom 3 times, only the first time wireless worked after some random restarts. Other than that it gets an IP address but no DNS servers. IMAP & Microsoft Exchange don't work for more people than just me. Are you using the apps zip file provided in the thread I specified? Also, are you using the same ROM?
I am indeed using the same ROM, I've flashed nothing but a battery icon, the only persistent problem I've come across that's adversely affected the stability of the phone over three hard resets, is when using TB to force apps over to the SD card.
Has it worked nicely for you with TB? I'll give it a shot now, didn't think of it before.
I was also wondering why not use an app2sd from a different rom (like oxygen?) which worked just fine.

TB backups have been fine for me, just when forcing certain apps to SD when I docked the phone to charge via mains or USB the phone would freeze and require a battery pull.
I haven't played about with Apps2SD as I have a Nexus Prime on order and I'm only going to be using the Desire for another ~5 days or so, so I am quite happy chugging along with the 220Mbs of internal space I have using the Bravo Sense HBOOT.
*Edit* When I said TB backups worked just fine, I meant the backup from my first ICS install, not from my MIUI 2.3.7 backup.
Did you flash TB or install from market? Current sd moving app is relatively bad, as it only moves certain apps.
I downloaded it from the market. My first boot of ICS I downloaded all my apps from the market again as suggested on the thread, and then did a backup of my ~20 most used apps, just as a habit.
The thing is, TB uses it's own modified apps2sd, and it's suggested in the thread not to use a different apps2sd than the given one or it might break stuff. Are you sure the apps are moved to the SD card? How did you move them?

They are moved to the SD, for sure, but like I said it's not stable. TB has an option to force apps to the SD, not particularly recommended, but I tried it all the same. Mostly out of curiosity.

Wireless still needs to be set manually. TB works fine, no reboots for me at least.
Never had a non-rooted Android until now (Note 2, 3, 4) and the lag is insane for me. I use Greenify and have it killing nearly everything that is non-essential. I only have GPS, WiFi, basic SPan, and Sync enabled, none of the other stuff. I'll reboot every day or two. I close out apps when I'm done using them, etc. There isn't anything super obvious I'm doing to increase lag. But it's there. Even Contacts force closes every few days. Hangouts does not play nice with Swype. Just to pull up the phone log takes a long time. Any advice or should I just reflash stock to see if that helps?
Thanks, and if you haven't pledged to the root bounty, please do! Let's get this thing solved!
Oh my god!
that's why I hate Touchwiz UI!

I use Nova Prime for the launcher which hopefully doesn't add to the problem.

I use Nova as well and my Note is fairly snappy. I have found that every so often an app will either kill battery or slow the UI down.
There are lots of things that can be causing it so I'm on sure if there's a quick fix without really k owing more of your setup. (what's installed, art/davlik, developer settings, etc.)
I personally don't use greenify on a no rooted device cause I couldn't get it to automatically work. What I did do, and it seems to have helped greatly is to block/disable a bunch of bloat with the program at the following link:

Works great and leaves everything in place so OTA updates still work.
