Mugen 1800mAh & 3600mAh Battery

Here's two batteries from Mugen Powers, a 1800mAh and 3600 mAh. From my understanding, The 1800mAh will work with the original stock battery cover. And of course the 3600mAh, has the bulkier build. Here's some links for those interested.

3600mAh is sick but im going to order the 1800 mAh i wish they made a 2000mAh normal looking battery with the stock cover.

Let us know how it works out. I'm curious if there are any heat issues associated with the larger-capacity battery.

I just bought the 1800mAh, but it will be shipped in 10 days and will take 10 more to arrive!

anybody got a 1800mah one yet? thinking of getting one but im not sure they are worth it, has anyone had a battery from these guys before?

OEM batteries is the only option unless the battery is inbuilt. Why are people so gullible? The manufactures always uses the best cells for their phones as it is part of the features present, i.e. long talk/standby time.

maybe its because the people who know they are no good are so patronising when they are saying such. Not everyone has knowledge of these things and not everyone has had experience of this before but thats no reason to talk down to them. Its logical that these batteries should be better, after all they are rated 400mah higher, if thats not the case then you cannot blame the person who buys it thinking it is.

After market batteries is not a new phenomena and people buying such batteries should have learned by others which have made those mistakes before. It does not matter if it says Mugen or whatever on the battery.
I bought a battery for SE P1 on Ebay for 3 GBP and the picture was showing the retail package. When I received the package it was a "Walkman" branded when P1 is a business phone. I filled a complaint and received my money back. I would never do it without PayPal covering the full amount. I knew it from the beginning, if it sounds to good to be true it is not.

no, but what about somebody doesnt know anything about battery tech, or somebody who simply bought their phone from and o2 shop and has never had experience of other people buying aftermarket batteries? how are they supposed to know?
i came into this thread asking questions because to me it seems a little too good too be true, i know very little about battery tech but i do know a fair bit about other areas. other people, even those on this site may not have the slightest clue other than 1800 is more than 1400 and to talk down to them because of this is very unfair.

Mugen makes horrible batteries and have a long history of such incidents such as the ones above.

£26+ for 400mAh more - seems a bit steep IMO.
Better to buy a second genuine BST-41 from SE - seen them for the same money all over the place:

Not true. The P1 battery from Ebay did have a hologram but when comparing against the original battery there was a visible difference.

Mugen 3600 mAh battery
I got my 3600mAh battery on Friday and it works great! 5% drain an hour even with heavy useage. I can go the whole day without charging and still have 30% before I go to bed, beats the OG battery which I had to charge 2 times a day which sucked...

I'm personally a bit skeptical to 3rd party batteries, but I would like to have a 3600mha battery, the added thickness is not a problem. But as far as I know there only available battery from Sony is the stock 1500mha battery?

That's exactly how my original battery behaves... lol

Not for me.
My original 1500mAh battery was dead by 3.30-4pm after taking it off charge at 8.30am and that was with moderate use. Its been dead by 2pm before now.
Got my 1800mAh Mugen battery and i can take it off charge at 8.30am and have it still on 40% at 5pm after heavy use during my lunch hour.
It does work much better

Saw an eBay auction for the Mugen battery set up by "Mugen Battery".
Read the lower lines and they want to add 19% VAT after the sale is completed to all EU buyers by sending you a separate bill for the VAT (totally against eBay rules)!

I agree. I've been using the Mugen 1800mAg battery and it lasts all day without a charge. I even use moxier on direct push for work email.

Highly doubtful 2000ma batteries, probably 1500ma batteries that are really 1300ma. Tutoit on ebay I have 2x1500ma batteries for a 9.98$ shipped with a charger, I would get that instead.

I was just looking at this... seems like a great idea... the extra charger allows you to keep a second battery charged without using the EVO to do it. Even if it's really a lower rated battery... still a good deal.

I have a set of the 1500 mah batteries with the charger as was posted above, and I have no problem with them. I use my OEM battery most of the time, but sometimes it is handy to have some fully-charged back-ups. Honestly, I don't see much of a difference between what my OEM battery lasts and the knock-offs. For the price, you can't beat it.

so how are the batteries?

normally i would stay way from cheap Chinese crap on eBay, but with what i read here on the xda boards in regaurds t othe ok qualitybeing good enough that they might work out, so i ordered 2x1850 plus charger from ebay. i dont have time to do any real testing but i can say that:
1 not having to charge the battery from the phone is nice
2 i always have one on the charger, one in my pocket and one in the phone.
3 charging in the base seems to get me a better charge
4 i cant tell a difference between oem and knock offs, although you would think that the 1800's would last longer than the 1500oem but we know how that knock off crap goes. in my book if they are the same as oem, regardless as to what they claim and dont require a bigger back plate, then i guess that's good enough.

The 2 from tutoit or what ever the sellers name is work great last as long or longer then my stock battery. The charger also gives a better charge to the batteries then I get through my phone I'm talking extra hours when I charge with it.

I got this and it's a good deal for the price.
The batteries aren't as good as oem. Probably last 75-80% as long.
The charger works well though and it's nice to have a couple extra batts laying around. I've only cycled them 4 or 5 times so I suppose the life could improve...time will tell.

I Have a number of Minor issues with mine. Must of gotten a bad set.
1) USB port on the charger does not output enough juice to charge the phone (Accually Locks it up until I unplug it)
2) Charger seems hit or miss on recharging the Stock Battery. I've left it plugged in all night and come back to ~20% charge when I pop it in a number of times
3) Random Screen cut off when charging the Replacements IN the phone.
So I only charge the Ghetto batteries in the charger provided.
That being said, I STILL think it's a great deal and more than happy with my purchase. I have 2 spare batteries for my phone (Or the wifes CDMA Hero) and a way to charge one w/o having to leave my phone behind (I don't have to babysit my phone for a charge, If someone walks out of the poker room or party with my charger and battery it's no big deal) The 2 China batts. are just emergency tanks, The Red one gets put back in as soon as I get home.

Loved the first set so much that I purchased a second set 2 weeks later. I keep 1 set at work and 1 set at home. I always carrying a fully charged battery in plastic bag in my pocket. I love the EVO but hate the battery life. The first month I owned the EVO was hell for me having to carry a power charger and cable everywhere. I hated having to plug my phone in every time I found a power outlet worried if I didn't I may find myself without a phone when I needed it or having to fight everyone at the airports for power outlets. Now when I'm low on juice, I just switch batteries.... BUY NOW you'll never regret it....

I purchased 2 3500 batteries with new backs on e-bay for $22 and change. They work great I can go for over a day with fairly heavy usage.
Only minor problem was that with the phone thicker my silicone case doesn't fit as good. Extra weight no problem.

Yeah one thing I have learned from buying these types of batteries and charger is that they don't like to charge the OEM batteries but charge the cheapo ones just fine. I've noticed it on alot of things not just phone batteries.

i bought a 2000mAh that turned out to be a 900mAh so i would only buy it for the charger.

I wouldn't recommend the 2 x 1500 batteries plus charters the 1500's seem like a 1300 or a little less I would say try get the 1800 one from eBay they have a lot of auctions for them so all you gotta do is be patient and try to get for cheap that's what I'm tryin to do

So Ebay batteries?

So I know there are a couple of posts on here but I have found them a little hard to follow. I just got my captivate last sunday and on the stock 2.1 rogers rom I noticed that the battery life was very poor. Since then I am now running cog 3.01 i think and my battery life is now alot longer than before.
For the way I would like to use my phone It is still not enough for what would make me happy. my phone is unplugged at 6:00 am and when i get home by 5 it used to be dead but after "breaking in the battery" and the new rom i get home with about %15 percent battery.
I just bought a triple battery pack off of ebay for $10. these batteries are rated at 1500 mAh, the same as the battery that came with my phone. I am just wondering what I can expect from these batteries.
My plan is to drain two of them completely then leave them in my desk drawer(from what I have read if you plan on storing batteries they should be completely drained first) and use one of them plus my oem battery daily(until they start to lose performance). Again does anyone have any experience with a battery of the sort or any similar third party battery?

they are no where as good as samsung oem battery. even though it says 1500mah it is not or will drop drastically after a month or so of use...i've bought a lot of those batteries from ebay and they always like that even some other well known companies like Seidio do not compare with manufacture's batteries. the difference is usable capacity, oem batteries are around 95% compared to cheap chinese ones that are anywhere from 60-80%.

I have those ebay batteries. I bought the kit that comes with two batteries and an external charger for about $10.
The ebay battery is has about 60-70% of the power of the OEM battery. I have no real hard evidence just from using it for the past 2 months or so.
I am ok that it is does not last as long as OEM because it was only $10 and it came with the external charger. I love the external charger because it allows me to charge a spare battery while I keep one in my phone.

I bought the same ensemble, with essentially the same results excepting perhaps that one of my replacement batteries seems to underperform with about 40% of OEM battery life.
That said, for $10... they're very handy as backups. They'll easily give you a few more hours in a pinch, which is essentially just what I was looking for. I really have no complaints in that respect.
The best strategy for battery life I've found is to buy a handful of wall adapters and position them in places you spend a lot of time at, and to develop a habit of plugging in when you're not moving around.
Sad but true, but mediocre battery life is just kind of a way of life for these (and really all) high-performance Android devices. Excepting getting an outsized and expensive battery replacement like the Seidio 3500 mAh that all but prevents use with many accessories and cases, a couple wall chargers and a car charger are effective if mildly annoying means of managing it.
These generic Hong Kong replacements are entirely effective as emergency supplements, but you'll find yourself preferring the OEM cell still.

Yep I mean for $20 I have two charges and 4 batteries so if I need to go without power , even if not a 100% match for the oem power, it is still damn cheap.

I also got one of these from ebay.
I got the 2x 1500mah batteries + Battery Charger combo.
I must say I am impressed. They are the same quality as my OEM battery. Its so convenient. I never have to run to a charger anymore. Just keep the spare battery in my car or wherever and just pop it in and carry on with my daily business.
When I get home, I just re-charge all the batteries. The Battery Charger even has an LED Light that tells you when its finished. "RED: while charging" and "BLUE: when finished". Charging takes about roughly 3 hours, (just like OEM).
Edit: Been using this for about a month so far. With no problems.. Its the best feeling. My phone is never plugged in anymore. And, I don't have to "pinch the settings" to make my phone last.
IE. lowering brightness to 10%, turning sync off, turning wireless networks off, etc.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
only crappy thing is??? I plan to sell this phone soon, when the Galaxy S 2 comes out, if the specs are good enough.

Would you mind posting the link or giving us the name of the exact vendor you ordered from?... I'm about to order the 2xbatteries and charger combo, but just want to make sure I get batteries that are half way decent. When I search on eBay I get about 20 vendors selling similar combos and given that in HK they're celebrating Chinese New Year... most won't fulfill orders until next week.

i wouldnt waste your money unless you just want an extra.

Do yourself a favor guys....

Stop the debacle and concern on whether or not the 1700mah, 1600mah 1500mah blah blah blah batteries are better than stock.. I have a LOT of experience with Li-Po and Li-Ion batteries (cell phones use Li-Ion technology) and I can tell you WITHOUT a doubt that all these knock off companies are full of SH^* trying to say there batteries are of a higher capacity than the stock battery while staying the same size. Although it is possible to cram more mah into the same size package with li-ion batteries it is VERY unlikely to be able to do so with the current technology out right now. Most of these companies rate their mah on a different scale and actually will pull the battery to a lower voltage to justify their claims when it dosent matter because cell phones have a safety feature that has to shut the phone down at the specified voltage to prevent fires. Yes fires, Li-Ion has a fire risk if it is depleted all the way, not the same risk as a Li-Po battery but a risk just the same. HTC has a separate department that deals specifically with batteries and I can assure you they know and use the most up-to-date batteries they can get their hands on for these devices. There is nothing for them to gain by using inferior batteries in our phone. Those that have purchased the seidio 1600 extended battery and claim to have a better life on the phone are under a placebo effect. If you are just purchasing this "Extended" battery as a spare than buy all means go right ahead but dont expect a miraculous two hours extra from it because it is of lesser quality than the stock battery. I have hundreds of dollars in battery testing and logging equipment and If you guys dont believe me i will run some tests on the stock vs. whichever battery you'd like me too and post the data for all to see, but Ive been down this road before with htc phones and have always come up with the same conclusion......The aftermarket "Extended" batteries actually have less mah's than their stock counterparts.
Of course Im not referring to the htc extended battery in this post, its obviously pushing more mah's with its monstrous size, lol.

Oh' and to elaborate because Ive also read some concerns over the length of time for charging the thunderbolt (which does seem lengthy I will admit).
Since our phone has such a hard time time keeping up with a normal days use I believe what htc has done is given the battery a longer "saturation charge" for the battery to completely charge before it completes the charge cycle.
Li-ion batteries are charged on a 3 cycle charge system and stage two is what is considered the saturation cycle where the battery may sit at a relatively static voltage for a period of time to saturate the cells with current to top off the charge, some cell phones skimp on this step to give the phone a fast charge time which is termed "charge-and-run" and people assume the device has been adequately charged when it has not. For an adequate "FULL" charge without harming the battery or affecting battery life, typically li-ion batteries take approx. 3-4 hours.

I wouldnt go that far, I doubt any of the batteries are "paperweights" yet. Im just making the point that the claims of higher capacity are unfounded and the cheap knock-offs are of lesser quality. Also check where the batteries are made. Good quality Li-ion cells come from Japan.
One thing to note with the cheapies is the temp while charging or under heavy use. Get a temp monitor app and compare between the stock and your aftermarket batteries, they will probably run hotter. Unfortunately I dont have any other batteries to test for you guys other than the stock OEM battery otherwise I would. If I pick any up Ill cycle the stock vs. aftermarket and post the data log between the two.
Also I didnt mean the "fire" comment to worry anyone, Li-ion batteries have protection curcuit that will render the battery useless and unserviceable if the cell reaches a voltage of 2.70v or lower which is where the chemistry of li-ion becomes unstable.

I'll ship your one of the two 1700 when I get it if you wanna test it and post results. Just ask that you ship it back after your done.

I didn't expect them to be as good as the 1400 mAh battery that comes with the phone. I just wanted to have a spare battery available in case I'm traveling and watching movies or something (on a plane). Even though it says it's 1500 mAh, I expect them to be more around 1200 - 1400 mAh.

I've used Chinese batteries every chance I get. They do work. From an Eris to the Dinc. 3500mah. Never had a problem. Emails and games etc. I bought the extended battery along with the Tbolt. Just don't like the hump on the back. I'm on eBay every night waiting for the Chinese to strike with a extended battery. At least a Better extended back cover. For $10.99 free shipping ill wait 2 weeks for it. F%$% what u heard their cheap batteries work.

If you do I recommend you buy the 1500 MyTouch4G batteries from ChiChi's htcexpress or their store on amazon. They should be the same a the 1700 Thunderbolt batteries and $20 cheaper.

When I get around to ordering up the batteries Ill post a chart like that on a seperate thread for our phone. I have some pretty sophisticated logging equipment. It shows the temp, charge capacity, voltage, mah, cell balance and health in an easy to read graph.
Im not a battery nerd but I used to be into RC helicopters BIG time and when you have a $5000.00 helicopter that can kill someone its just normal practice to have the equipment to check your $800 batteries so they dont fail 80 feet in the air and blow up or decapitate someone, lol

Heres a video of one of my helicopters (Trex 700 electric) , this one uses two 6s 5000mah li-po batteries and each one costs over $300 and they only last 8 minutes before there dead The video isnt of me however, I need a video camera to post mine but the helicopter is identical for the most part.

i've bought extended batteries for phones for less than $15 each all in the 2400 to 3600 mah range. they last 2-3 days with normal use. the oldest one is 3 years old (g1) and still performs like new.
iirc the seller was based in hongkong.

I don't care about battery life. The battery on the Galaxy Nexus is removable. When my phone is dead, I swap out my battery for another one. Two batteries gets me through ANY day, regardless of usage patterns. Batteries are small and fit in men's and women's pockets easily. They fit in glove boxes, desk drawers, etc. They're portable, lightweight, compact, etc. You can take them almost anywhere.
I purchased the Samsung battery charger kit and haven't looked back. Instead of charging my phone and feeling tethered to my charger all day, I use my phone however I want and swap batteries in/out as I need to, and I only charge my phone overnight while sleeping now. The rest of the time, I only charge my batteries through the charging kit.
All these threads on battery calibration, battery life, etc. just seem unwarranted to me. I'm used to toting a charger around with me, so now I just bring my battery kit (usually it sits in my car, not needed) and if my battery dies, I swap in a fresh one and charge the spare with the kit. This way, I can have my phone on me all the time without worry. If I have no nearby electric outlet I can still take along the extra battery and charge both batteries later. I actually have 3 batteries, if I need them (I can't imagine ever using all 3 in a day).
I don't even use the extended battery. Why fatten up my phone, even if only by a little, if I don't need to do so?
This is food for thought, that's all. Does anyone else just use spare batteries and no longer worry (or even obsess, as I used to do with my Thunderbolt) over squeezing out every drop of battery life? To me, life is easier and better this way.
There's a name for the feeling of not being tethered to your charger all day. I call it freedom. It's awesome.

I see where you are coming from.. What do you think of the battery cover? Is it difficult to work with when swapping batteries and will it last with such frequent use? How do you make sure that your spare battery is always ready (I guess you must be in the habit of always putting it on a charger)?

The battery cover is easy to remove. I ordered two spares when I ordered my battery kit (door covers are only $3 each) in case they wear out over time, which I doubt will happen. Many days I don't even swap batteries, as my phone typically lasts 10-12 hours on the regular battery anyway. I do charge my phone in the car (why not? my phone would just sit there otherwise) which is ~30-45 minutes a day, enough for an extra 20% charge mid-day which helps my battery hit the 10+ hour mark. And if it doesn't, I just swap for a new battery.
The spare is always ready because I always keep it in the charger kit so I can grab it when I'm in need. The kit has a light which turns green when the spare battery is charged to 100%. The light is red otherwise. It's quite handy.
At night I plug in both my phone and the charger kit using the Y cable charger that comes with the kit (allows 2 devices to charge simultaneously on one charger). In the morning, I have my phone and spare, both ready to go.
May I also say, I've impressed a few of my iPhone-using friends with my spare charger kit. They always say "I wish I could do that, but I don't have a removable battery." I lol every time (silently to myself...)

I see nothing wrong with improving what we have with calibration and optimization though...

IMHO your logic is flawed. Why not get good battery life on one or two batteries rather than mediocre battery life on two batteries.
You shouldn't have to carry around two batts just to get usability out of our device. Two batteries is for when you demand extra from your device.
Like when I went to New York I carried two batteries for my BB9700. Not because it was a battery hog but because I was GPSing and texting all day and didn't want to be stranded with a dead battery. I ended up using both batteries several times skipping charging both of them one night.

I do the same thing. Have the extra battery with wall charger and just throw the spare in my pocket if I go anywhere. Like the OP stated I would much rather swap out the battery (if/when needed) and be able to use my phone like I want than worry about trying to conserve it all day.
I haven't had any problems with the battery cover and even if it did I can buy a new one from VZW for $3.25 with my discount ($4.99 retail) so it is a nonissue.
I honestly don't know why so few people do this. And I very rarely even end up using the spare battery, I just like knowing I have it if needed.

Agreed. I read that stuff to be informed, but no longer out of a crazy desire to extend my battery life because I can't live without doing otherwise. It's a nice change.
Again, I'm not saying anyone else has to or should do this. But it makes so much sense to me, and I like to share what works for me to help others who are looking for other options regarding battery life.

I'm a realistic type of guy. What I want from my phone and what I get from my phone are two different things. To believe they are the same is literally delusional, by definition. To complain about X Y or Z company not providing me with what I want is also a bit irrational if I know that, given today's technology's limitations, what I want might be asking a bit too much. We must work with what we have. I have spare batteries. I use them, liberally if I need to, and I don't mind doing so.
I don't expect a 4G phone to last all day while I play WWF, browse the web, text constantly, check and compose emails, take photos, transfer data, and make phone calls. To get 3-4 hours of screen on time on one battery is great (to me).
I think carrying an extra battery is being more responsible on my end for my own admitted usage of the phone, rather than complaining that the battery life "sucks" or hacking my phone to get an extra 20% battery life (although I'm not against this at all - it's just more work overall). Instead of blaming Verizon, Google, and/or Samsung, I'm taking ownership of the fact that I use my phone quite a lot, and I'm fine with carrying an extra battery or two. Instead of blaming others for the battery life of my own phone, I take responsibility for it and I provide my own solution. If anything, I'm speaking of personal responsibility. And in said responsibility I've found freedom from the dreaded phone charger. Again, it's a nice freedom to have.

I agree completely with the OP. A second OEM battery and quality wall dock charger are my second accessory purchase with any of my smart phones. The first being a good case.

Having a 2nd or 3rd (or 4th!) battery and/or a charger around shouldn't be a requirement for using your device throughout the day. Sure if you use your phone hard then you're going to be used to having a charger nearby, but it shouldn't be a req if you're a normal user.
I don't think its unreasonable to expect a normal (12 hours) days use out of a device. FWIW most people are getting that (especially GSM users), and I don't think the battery issues are as widespread as people seem to think. There are "omg batterylife" threads in every new device forum.

For sure, I'm happy with this phones battery life (WAY better than the EVO 3D) but I like having the extra charged battery on hand for when I'm traveling.

I often go a full day without seeing a charger. Sure I could carry one around and hunt for outlets throughout the day, but I don't think that should be a concern. Just want the phone to be reliable.

For what it's worth, I bought an external charger a couple phones back. Just plug in via USB to the phone if it's running low. Really useful when I'm on the train, for example, and I tether wifi for my Xoom. Gets me through the day in a pinch and I don't have to buy a new one with every phone (though I might buy a larger one now given the Galaxy Nexus' bigger battery).
Also, I usually plug the phone in while at my desk and always charge overnight. But I use the hell out of my phone

I have to agree with Martonikaj I'm afraid. Its a phone, just because you CAN swap out the batteries doesn't mean you should HAVE to to get reasonable usage life.

I disagree with the OP for having 2nd, 3rd batteries in order to use it properly based on user usage pattern.
First, define your usage pattern then try to optimize the battery to support that.
My usage pattern requires to have at least 3 and a half our screen time, and charge the phone once every two days, before I went to sleep (or during the night).
And this phone battery can do that without any problem ...
So, I don't need second battery ... and I am ordering the 2000mAH extended battery for GSM model. Having extra 250mAH is nice, it's a bonus for additional 30 minutes screen time! ... while still having the same look and thin device profile

Hey guys can someone recommend a good place to buy a second battery and charger if needed? Is it worth getting the extended battery and do I need to buy a different back cover if I purchase one? I am in Australia so was thinking eBay might be my best bet? Cheers

I do the same as the OP. I have three batteries that I rotate through. The OEM Samsung battery that came with the phone and two 1900mah batteries that I bought from eBay (which aren't too bad by the way) . I don't ever have to plug in my phone anymore because most of the time I have two fully charged batteries ready to go. I get on average between 12-15 hours on a single charge as it is with pretty good use, so I'm not worried about my phone dying, its just more convenient.

What about if there is going to be an official larger battery for it?

Just bought two off of eBay for $11, bargain. Hopefully they will do the job. Can keep one in the car and one at work, I should never run out of battery

I am pretty sure i saw an official Samsung extended battery 3000mah with battery door cover on eBay for the GSM version . I think it was around $35-$40.
