[Q] Phone/Contacts application while in landscape mode - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use my phone while driving a ton, and it's mounted in a car dock. I have it mounted in landscape mode and notice that I can't get the phone or contact apps to switch unless the keyboard is slid out. This isn't possible with my current mount, anyone know if this is possible?

force specific programs to landscape mode?

i was wondering if there was a way to set a particular program to launch in landscape mode as opposed to the standard portrait. i think this would be handy for database files/programs that you just need to bring up and check information.
the particular program in question is KeePass. i sometimes just need to launch it and check a password for something, but in portrait mode, i cant quite fully see 3 columns and usually need to scroll sideways, but landscape would be perfect. unfortunately, i cant really just open the keyboard because the phone is usually in a holster...and i tried assigning the rotate screen function to a hardware button, but it turns it the wrong way. in either case, i was hoping to just cut out the extra step and have it launch sideways by default. any ideas?

Turning off Landscape mode when keyboard is opened

I have an HTC Touch Pro with Gyrator 2 installed, blocked on the phone app, and often the act of pulling my phone out when it rings causes the keyboard to open slightly, which puts the phone into landscape mode. Is there a way to prevent this from happening and use Gyrator to put the screen in landscape mode instead of opening the keyboard?

[Q] Manually launch/trigger different dock modes

Hi all, i recently got my HTC desire and am very happy with it..
I am constructing a plain desktop dock (no charging etc, just a holder).
I am unable to find a way to trigger different dock modes that I read about for other devices like:
..Car dock home
..Multimedia dock mode
..Desk clock/dock mode
..Night dock mode etc
>Is there an app which I can use to trigger any of these modes manually?
>Are these dock modes default android functionality or device/manufacturer specific?
>How would I trigger dock modes when I put the phone in my custom dock? (magnet, micro usb pins wiring, etc)
>Is there some reason for the absence of dock pins/connectors/manual triggers etc?
Please advice. I am quite excited by this.
Thanks
bump.. anyone??

Brodit Active Car Mount

For the S3 version can anyone confirm if this works in landscape mode so I can slide the phone in from the left rather than from the top.
Does it hold securely or does it have to be portrait mode only?
Also, is the camera blocked by the holder or is it still usable?
Thanks

Enable Car Mode?

So I just got my iBolt xProDock and was disappointed when I plugged in my phone and there doesn't appear to be a car mode. Is this something I need to enable or does Samsung no longer offer a car mode app that runs when plugged into a car dock?
I personally don't like car mode, and mine car dock is just a holder. I don't recall seeing anything in the apps list in Titanium Backup.
I saw on a Amazon review of the car dock (linky), iBolt offers one. If you got it an amazon, it should be free.
Usually car mode was enabled because USB plug in car docks had the pins to trigger it. When I looked in the settings, I did not see anything for Car Mode. On my Evo 4G, I could enable car mode without the dock dock since I could access it in the settings.
Worse case scenario, there are plenty of car mode apps, and I'm sure a few good ones that are free.
When you plug in the phone or will turn your main home screen into dock mode just like the is a pen mode and earphone mode. I bolt offers a free app that is actually quite nice that can replace the docking mode with a car mode or is available in the play store and can either be accessed like any app or at to be launched when you plug in the cable they provided

I like to break stuff!
It is still in MA7, in the drop down menu, unless the end user took it off their drop down, if they did they can put it back, or go into settings and click on language and text/scroll down to text to Speech/enable driving mode from there.
If they took it off their notification panel, to put it back, simply hit Menu/Display/Notification Panel, and drag it back up to the panel, cheers

I couldn't remember if it was on ma7 to save my life lol. I'd only ran it for like 2 days while testing my updates to my rom and then jumped to carbon for a while then back to my ljc build of my stable rom while I work out some kinks in my ma7 build

I'll have to try the iBolt app (or another free one), but I don't see that there is a Car Mode app on my phone anymore. The "Driving Mode" that is in the notification bar isn't what I'm looking for, I want an actual app to run when I plug my phone in that makes navigation, music, ect. easier to use when driving. I'll try the iBolt app tonight and leave feedback.
Thanks!

So the iBolt app is something like what I was expecting to have pre-installed on my phone, that'll work. Now just wondering if I'm missing a setting to make the app run automatically when plugged into the dock (like my HTC did) or if this isn't a feature that works on Samsung phones?

Driving Mode is not the same as Car Mode. Driving Mode just speaks email and text notifications. Rather than trying to find a dock with Car Mode in it, just get a few NFC tags, stick one on your existing dock, and program it to toggle Car Mode off and on. Easy Peasy.

The Note 2 doesn't have a Car dock Mode. That's been taken out by Samsung and it only has a smart dock mode so you'll need to do a couple of things.
First go into “Settings-Accessory” and select “Desk home screen display", now you'll need a car dock launcher like car home ultra (not all apps support Samsung's new dock mode) . Once you've installed a car home app go ahead and dock your phone on the iBolt and you should be given a prompt to choose your default down app. This video explains it all starting at 1:05

Problem isn't his dock it's Samsung for removing the separate car dock mode for one unified Smart dock mode.

All, here's a new video from us here at iBOLT explaining the "DockMode" (as we now call it) in Samsung phones. Also visit Google Play and download the iBOLT Dock'n Drive app.
