Hey guys,
Quick question here: Is it possible to disable the physical slide-out keyboard in either WM or android (specifically android) without having to take the thing apart?
I saw this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=692022
But that didn't work for me. Has anyone else had luck with this solution? Is there any other way to disable or turn off the keyboard without physically unplugging it?
Why would you want to do that...? If you don't want to use it, then don't. The on-screen keyboard is pretty good, and you can get swype or whatever else you want... You never need to slide the kbd open.
So what's the point?
The keyboard is damaged. It sat in a puddle overnight, so now whenever I need to input text, the keyboard just outputs random characters. Constantly. Even when the physical keyboard is not engaged. I've been able to work around it in WM (its still VERY annoying), but as soon as I boot into android, it automatically goes to the browser and starts the random text thing again. I cant keep it on the home screen for more than half a second before it goes opens the browser again.
Whats even weirder is that I checked the water damage stickers on the phone and none of them have turned red.
I'm assuming some of the keys shorted out and are now always "on." So I just want to disable the physical keyboard and only use the soft keyboard.
Ouch. Well, if you have TEP just get the thing replaced - especially if it doesn't show any water damage.
With that said, I'd say the best option would be to physically disconnect the cable. I'm not aware of any software way to disable the kbd in Android... Curious, how do you do it in WinMo? I'll poke around to see if there is any way to do it in Android, not sure how it would be done. There may be a secret option that I'm not aware of, because it never comes up
The simplest option is probably to create a minimal microp key layout that only contains mappings for the three front panel keys handled by microp, and then perform surgery on your init script to replace the existing keymap entry for your rhod with your new minimal one. Nevertheless, init is embedded in your rootfs.img and isn't easily edited from a Windows computer. Thus you'd need to either copy init over to your sdcard with the terminal emulator inside of android, or install the Android SDK onto your computer so you can pull/push the file with adb. If you have a computer running Linux then there are more options.
Pop over to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828011&page=3 and maybe you'll get some ideas about how to create yourself a special keymap with nothing in!
Thanks for the info guys. I really no good at doing any deep editing, so a lot of those suggestions just went right over my head :-}
I know this is a big request, but if someone has the time and knowledge to create an empty key map for me and tell me how to apply it, that would be greatly appreciated. If not, no big deal. I just don't want to screw up my phone any more than it is, ya know?

LOL you don't really seem to have much to lose at this point...!
Sounds like it may be more complex than originally thought. Unplugging that cable still seems to be your best bet... Otherwise you'll have to muck around with things everytime there's an update.

Download the rootfs found here. and follow these instructions:
1) Uncompress the file via the 7zip utility.
2) Rename it to: rootfs.img
3) Copy it over to the android boot folder (usually andboot) on your sd card.
4) Open up the file startup.txt found in the same folder with your favorite text editor.
5) Find the line that starts with set_cmdline and look for an entry on that line that begins with physkeyboard= and change its setting to: physkeyboard=rhod_badkbd
6) Restart your phone.
Since you're the one who has requested this, you're my designated tester. It should turn off all your keyboard keys. It should also leave the keys on your front panel working. Let me know how it works for you. If it works fine I'll submit this modification for inclusion into XDAndroid. If it doesn't, we'll have to tweak it further. You can thank Arrrghhh for talking me into doing this.
I have had this procedure work on several phones....
Take the battery out.
Submerse the entire phone in alcohol. The alcohol will displace the water in the phone. After a minute, take the phone out of the alcohol. The alcohol left in the phone will evaporate. After 24 hours, place the battery back in the phone.
Should work like new.

Need some advice. My program menu on my xda keeps whiting out.
On an initial start (or after editing the program list) the program list (or start menu) displays fine.
On the 2nd click some icons start doubling up at the bottom and fill the screen.
The on the 3rd click it goes off the bottom of the screen and goes completely white!
What gives? I've editing the number of items, looking in the registry at start menu opetions, deleting programs, but nothing solves it.
Performance etc not hampered but its really annoying. It MIGHT have started after installing a c++ cube program launcher (not sure).
if anyone has ideas to fix it please let me know.
TIA Sean
Hey I just had that exact same issue earlier. I was editing my \Windows\start Menu\Programs folder and making some adjustments when i noticed it happening. I kinda narrowed it down to being something to do with HButton. I was fiddling with the Hbutton display options just after modifying the programs folder. After more fiddling with the HButton display (changing colour and position) and a soft reset, my Start menu started working fine again and I havent had any problems with it again so far.
Probably nothing at all to do with it but thats what seems to have fixed mine as i didnt touch anything else but HButton and it is now resolved.
hope this helps in some way
[EDIT] completely ignore what I just put above, its just happeed again. The only thing I have done this time is Activesync and install a game. Kinda thinking it has something to do with Activesync now.......
lol oh well i guess i'll have to put up with it for now then. half a mind to send it back to O2 but its a software bug, I'll get the problem on the next phone as well.
Try to see in Memory the program values.
In my experience when tou have few program memory, start and today redrow is very difficult.
It happened me some times ago when i tryed a rom with problems of memory allocation.
You can try another rom (today you have many chose )

Well considering my phone is one a month old I dont think I'll be flashing the rom JUST yet.
And update: for some reason the start menu is back to normal behavior! Absolutely no idea why. Just when i was getting used to it as well.
I am using Myns Android ROM withthe wifi update + 110 pixel density update, booting via SD card and every now and then I get a graphical glitch/system crash that shows as thin, black and white stripes on my screen.
Anyone know what might be the cause/how I can fix this?
If i chose to install to NAND, would it be more stable/faster? And can I simply flash it with a WM ROM to go back to "normal"?
Thanks!!
I cant say about the glitch, try changing the kernel maybe. But your second and third questions have been asked and answered so many times, its ridiculous. But since its your first post, I'll answer:
would it be more stable/faster?

Yes again. Also, Try using the search button in the forums, and read the stickys, go through some threads etc.
My apologies for not going through the threads properly.
I half knew the answers to my 2nd and 3rd question, but wanted clarification
I am trying Super Eclair Lite, and whilst wifi works well, I cannot hook up to 3G(gprs/wap/hdspa/EDGE etc)
I can call and make/receive texts though :S Hit this glitch a couple of times too, but i noticed it seemed to happen when putting the device to sleep, so I changed the screen setting to 30 minutes and turned of animations etc.
p.s. How do you remove widgets?
graphical glitches are usually caused by using the wrong panel type in default.txt when using haret, or the wrong NBH panel type when using Nand, to fix the first, edit default.txt, to fix the second flash another NBH with another panel type, (panel type is usually in the filename).
To remove a widget, press and hold on it, then move it to the bottom of the screen.
Apologies for being a totaly newbie, but what are the "panel types"? MY default.txt shows the correct resolution, but I cannot see anything about panels (I might just not be looking hard enough lol!)
I now have a problem when booting from the SD card that my resolution is "bigger" (icons are larger and overlap, menu items are larger too) But it was fine before i rebooted....
Any help for the GPRS issue?

You can remove widgets by long pressing on them until the bottom tray becomes a bin/x or something similar, then drag them to it.
About the 3g problem, I had that a while back after installing a new build, what solved it for me was changing the kernel. I had flashed to nand so I simply got another nbh. For you it might be zimage. If you say you got that graphical glitch when the device went to sleep, then you should try changing your panel time. For a good smooth android experience, you will have to take some time, and flash many different nbhs/updates and change settings etc to get what works best for you.
I am trying out Myns Warm Donut again with the wifi update.
How can i change panel time?
Dunno if this helps but I managed to get GPRS/3G working on SuperEclair. I had to manually put in the APN and made sure the mcc mcn codes were right.
When i changed the codes the APN disapeared from the list but data connection established itself after a couple of minutes.
This is the link I used to get the right APN codes:
http://george.insideiphone.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/mcc-and-mnc-codes.pdf
For NBH files the panel type and resolution is in the filename: KAISIMG-PANEL1-320-ECLAIR.NBH : the filename shown is for Panel1 resolution 240x320.
To change panel type simply flash another NBH with panel2 or panel3, it will not affect your install, since the android nbh's don't format Nand, this is done by the installer
For Haret installs the panel type is changed in default.txt look for the line: board-htckaiser.panel_type and change the value to 1, 2 or 3.
Wow, that is great! I've searched for a solution for this problem a long time, but this is the first thing that works for my Kaizer 130.
Many thanks!
I had android running off the sd card most of the day yesterday, using the panel type of 1 worked well (did notice the odd glitch when coming out of sleep mode, but it didnt crash)
still not sure what the panel type does, can anyone explain? (curiosity really)
However, I tried to use the camera, and after switching to vide and back again to photo mode, android crashed.
I can suffer not using the camera, as its nothing amazing.
p.s. anyone know if you can remap the buttons? as the hang up button puts the phone into sleep mode, the wheel doesnt do much, and other buttons dont do much either.
Panel type refers to the LCD panel, there are 3 different types of panel fitted to the kaiser series, one manufactured by Sony, the other two by Topoly, functionally they are identical, however there are some differences in the electronic controllers fitted to each, which in winmo is detected automatically, however Android is unable to detect the differences and the correct type must be passed to the kernel at boot time, either by boot parameters in default.txt or hardcoded into the NBH. Due to the way electronics factories work, the panel type depends on which one was available at the lowest price, and shortest lead time, when it was required, hence the reason for the confusion, since some people still think that panel type is set for certain models of kaiser, which is inaccurate, since both my KAIS130's have different panels fitted.
Camera does not work in any Eclair build yet, it does in Donut builds, however it's still a little low quality even on the 3Mp Kais130, Video does not work on any android builds very well, if at all.
Remapping buttons can only be done by recompiling the kernel I think, however after a while the button layout becomes second nature, I actually get lost using winmo now, lol.
My Screen has totally stop touching and Ive searched and searched for a solution.... and yet havent found any. I deleted the ts-calibration file and yet still screen no work
BUMP Help!
You mean that the screen is not working within android of with windows mobile?
If you mean windows mobile then your screen is broken or if you think it is because of the cab, you can try a hard reset.
If it is only in android then uninstall this version of android and download the .rar and extract it to your SDcard.
I have sort of the same issue. My screen doesn't work (most of the time). For some reason it is responsive sometime (not clear how to recreate that). I can see the screen is responding, although if I go to the menu and try to select a icon with my finger it holds the icon and drags it (and I cannot let it go)
But also my keyboard layout is messed up. It totally doesn't have any logic anymore. Only when entering a pincode the numbers are correct, but if you are trying to enter a number to call, it is totally messed up (numbers are symbols, letters are numbers)
Deleting the calibration file doesn't work for me. Also I have tried hard resets and rom upgrades several times, with no succes. It looks like installing android changed something, but doesn't set it to his old state after removal.
Anybody?
This is in WinMo you're having the problem...? I'm not sure what to tell you, Android doesn't touch the NAND whatsoever - so it shouldn't effect (affect?) WinMo whatsoever.
yea i was having the same problem and couldnt figure out a solution, i deleted the ts-calibration, i've tried deleting all android files and starting over but the problem still exists. I think it might have something to do with the little bit of moisture i see under the screen because before i started seeing that, it used to work. But the screen works just fine when WinMobile is running so i dont know
If the screen is fine in WinMo, try a clean build. Not sure what could cause the screen to just stop working in only Android tho... unless of course you have a bad ts-calibration file...
When you do the screen calibration process in Android, does it work OK...?

No, in both. This problem originated from the fact I was never able to start up a blazin android. It started booting, but for some reason never finished it. With the previous editions I never had any problems.

I know you are replying on another user, but I still want to respond
Yesterday my screen was responding for a short moment. I have replaced the WinMo rom after that several times, no success. Also deleted android and reinstalled it again. (I've been trying trial and error for a while now, without any success.)
My WinMo rom btw was an energy build. Any similarities with other users experiencing this issue?
Is there some internal memory where these type of settings (keyboard layout and such) are stored and what not always change if you upgrade roms?
Perhaps I should go back to the original T-mobile rom.
Just upgraded to the original tmobile rom, but I'm stuck at the WinMo startscreen (tap the screen to start using it for the first time) I noticed that if you slide the phone open (keyboard visible) the display of the screen is correct. If I flip it back I'm missing parts of the screen.

I'm sorry for spamming this topic, but isn't it really weird that only for entering your pincode the numbers are correct, but afterwards the layout is all messed up?

I have the feeling my phone is using system files (after login) of a completely different phone (and no.. I did use the right rom's ) This goes for the keyboard as well as the screen issue.
any bright ideas?
Just to bring it under the attention again, because I'm on the edge of sending it back to t-mobile. (I hope they are not going to charge me because I have a diamond 2 that also needs repairing, touchscreen doesn't work as well, and I'm seeing some costs coming up there. For some reason I always manage to wreck my phones in the first 2 years. )
Any bright ideas?
I had a possibly similar problem.... I thought my screen was going bad after the install, but the install wasn't the issue. It was just a coincidence.
Take a small pin and run it along the side of your touch screen. Sometimes dirt gets stuck in there and that stops it from working properly. If that does not do it, slighty and gently lift the touch screen a little bit and put it back down. That worked for me!

I was kind of skeptic here of this solution, because my phone looked quit clean. But there I was, on visit with my parents, fiddling with my phone, thought; let's put my nails between the lines next to the touchscreen..... and wtf.. it worked My screen is back up. Very surprising but good.
No I only have my keyboard to worry about. Any thoughts on that?
Hi everyone.
First time on a forum for years. This one is pretty daunting though. Not even sure if Im in the correct thread
Just recently got myself an HTC Touch Pro. Yeah! it's old but I guess its better that the Ericsson w350 I had.
I was not happy with the 6.1 Win Mobile OS on the HTC and I heard that Android can be loaded up instead. So I started doing some research.
To cut a long story short, I managed to load XDAndroid onto the microSD card. all is working fine except I messed up on the touch screen calibration. or at least it was not made clear to me that what I was indeed doing was a screen calibration.
After some reading on the wiki files, I removed the ts_calibration as instructed and rebooted the system. The graphic for the calibration test does not seem to display correctly. Hence the readon for the initial stuff-up so I simply had to guess where the pointer were using the win6.1 OS calibration(Don't ask - it involved a non-permanent marker). Even that does not seem to work.
It would seem that the co-ords where transposed after some fiddling around. Left was right, up was down etc. So I got to thinking to open that ts_calibration file and started playing around with the numbers. Even the screen functionality was reversed when the I slid the screen open. Navigation via the Keyboard is no hassle though. The touch button navigation seems to work fine except the selection key does not actually select anything, I have to use the enter key on the keyboard. Not sure if this is normal. So if anything, navigation involves the keyboard to be open thus the screen orientation is always landscape as opposed to portrait view which sucks! esp if I'm texting or making a call. What the work around for this is general?
So I thought of opening the ts file in a txt editor and I transposed the numbers. I seem to be getting somewhere as the up and down seem to be working correctly now but the left and right are not, center screen is still out though. I'm not sure what sets of number represent which co-ord. I know that the calibration requires 5 co-ords, but I dont know in which order they should be. Is middle, top-right, top-left, bottom left, bottom right?
It would be easier to just have the correct co-ords for this phone. instead of playing around with some random numbers. IOW would the ts file co-ords be the same for all HTC Touch Pros? if so where can I get the correct co-ord numbers for that file? then I wont have to use the calibration function. easier still, is there a free app that will do this from within the XDAndroid os?
The start up txt I chose was Raph100 for the root folder. This is correct for my phone according to the wiki help files. I've not updated the files and used them as is. Would the incremental updates fix this?
I'm having the same issue for my TP. After some discussion, I downloaded the ts file from the FRX07 fixed discussion and it's pretty darned close to accurate. MAYBE just a little off center to the lower left of icons.
Here's a utube vid that shows clearly the touch pattern for calibration.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB6MVFH4Jv4
Hope it helps.
Just wanted to start a thread to discuss this device. For those not familiar with it, it's a very inexpensive 11.6" laptop that runs RemixOS 2.0 from the factory. It does NOT have a touchscreen and the display is a low resolution (1366x768) TN panel display. The CPU is an Allwinner A64 Cortex A53 quad-core 64-bit processor.
The device I purchased (via their Kickstarter campaign) has 2gb RAM and 32gb storage - and it costs me $89.
Some interesting things I've found so far...
1. To disable the damn "click" sound every time you select something (via the touchpad or a mouse), download the QuickShortcutMaker application from the play store. Then expand the Settings items under the Activities section and find the "Other Sounds" activity. Once you click on the Other Sounds activity, click on "Try" on the right-hand side - this will open the "Other Sounds" dialog where you disable "Touch Sounds"! You can also disable some other sounds here. No idea why Remix doesn't allow access to these sound options. Explore the other Settings activities - there are some other cool things you can do. I also used this app to create "Shortcuts" to specific forums in Tapatalk (something that you do via widgets in standard Android). This QuickShortcutMaker app is pretty damn useful on this device!
2. I've found that I was able to connect my Apple USB->Ethernet adapter to this device and it works! However, it doesn't seem to work with ALL apps. For example, Tapatalk doesn't work with it for some reason - but so far, every other app has worked. You can also access ethernet settings via the QuickShortcutMaker app mentioned above.
3. Enable "Experimental Features" by clicking on the "Kernel Version" section of Settings->About. Once you do this, enable the "Use mouse wheel to simulate swipe gesture". This allows you to zoom in and out of things like web pages, images, etc. To do this, hold down CTRL+ALT while moving the mouse wheel. Apparently, the touchpad on this device does NOT provide pinch-to-zoom functionality, so without this setting, there is no way to zoom in and out in most apps! Kind of a big issue! Unless there is another way that I just don't know about. I know you can CTRL- and CTRL+ to zoom in and out in web pages, but that really just increases the size of the text - not really a true zoom in/out.
4. Gmail app. If you open the Gmail app as a window, you don't get the "split-screen" that you get if you open the app in full screen. But if you open in as a full-screen window and then "restore" it to a smaller window, the split-sceen function still works. I usually just leave Gmail minimized in order to keep the split-screen function active for Gmail.
5. Sometimes, the screen comes back on if you put the device into standby with the power button and then close the lid. I haven't been able to find the exact circumstances where the screen comes back on when closed, but it seems that when it does come on when it's closed, it stays on! Need to figure out why this occurs..
6. Bottom of device gets REALLY hot after any extended use. May be a long-term issue...
7. By default, wifi is set to turn off when in standby (unlike tablets) - unless the device is plugged in - then wifi will stay on. This can all be changed under Settings->Wifi->Advanced. I actually set mine to always turn wifi off when in standby since it seems that the device doesn't actually work while in standby anyway (again, unlike tablets). May help avoid wifi failure over the long-term.
8. I have run into websites (such as microcenter.com) where when you open a drop-down list, there is no way to "scroll" the list if it goes off the screen. To see what I mean, go to microcenter.com and try to set the store location - it opens a drop-down list that goes off the screen and there is no way to scroll down in the list! The "work-around" is to use the down arrow key, but it doesn't work very well (web page wants to update every time you press the down arrow)....
That's about it off the top of my head... It's a shame that this device cannot upgrade to RemixOS 3.0, like was stated in the kickstarted campaign (and later "retracted").
Anyone know how to root this thing?
It's an interesting device for the cost, but what I *really* want is a similar, large'ish device with a higher-quality, higher-resolution touchscreen that is removable from the keyboard - with at least 2gb of RAM (10" and 1gb of RAM isn't enough for RemixOS!) and runs RemixOS 3.0 - so far, I can't seem to find such a device...

I just plugged mine in and it charged fine (blue LED next to charging port turns on when charging and turns off when fully charged).
To turn mine on, I just held down the power button on the keyboard for a while... You can also fully power it off that way as well (if it gets hung or something, which I have managed to do a few times now).
I've *really* put this thing through it's paces over the last few days. Overall, it's a decent device for the price. Personally, I'd rather spend a little more for one with a better, higher-res, removable touchscreen though.
I also have a HP Slatebook 10 x2 - and it's a great device, but stuck on Android 4. Otherwise, it has a MUCH nicer, removable touchscreen and even an extra battery in the keyboard (that charges the tablet when attached). Just wish it was a little bigger (13" or so) and was running Remix OS.
But, for $89, I can't complain, my A1160 actually runs pretty well for what it is...Luckily, I haven't had any issues with mine.

Hello...
@jtrosky, thanks for starting this thread, i've already gotten something out of it... getting rid of that damn clicking every keypress.
It was also nice to find that quickshortcutmaker, thats really a cool app that seems to allow more access than I could find...
Everyone else, hello!
I am an PC user since 84' and an Apple iPad user since, well the day the ipad 2 came out and now I'm on the iPad now. The only reason I say any of this is because the reason I got this Azpen A1160 was to help learn a bit about android and linux. I would also like to figure out how to get to the root...
Knock on wood but I got this three days ago and have literally beaten the software out of it loading, looking, deleting, and I thought I had screwed it up several times but it just keeps on ticking. The back does get a little warm, I haven't actually measured it yet but I'm going to, but I dont think it's too bad. I've run six full charges on battery and worked on it plugged in. (which it doesn't seem to like)
I'm happy with it right now and I think its going be a fun ride. I bet this is going to be a fun place to be in the next couple of months...
Buddy
Oh - one more thing I found out - and this may be well known already for those more familiar with RemixOS. If you click and hold on the little icons on the bottom-right of the taskbar, you can move them around. So, for example, you can make it so the brightness, volume, bluetooth and wifi icons are always visible, even when that section is "collapsed"...
Also - I *love* having the key to disable the touchpad (the key next to the arrow keys). Since I usually use a bluetooth mouse, it's so nice being able to disable the trackpad so quickly and easily!
Oh - and the Prtscr button on the keyboard brings up the very cool screen capture tool, which let's you select what area of the screen to capture. Very handy tool!
Still not sure what the "Pausc" button does - I'm assuming it's actually a misprint and it's supposed to say "Pause". Gotta love cheap electronics that are made in China!
So far, this device is definitely working well for me. Although, I'm not so sure the screen is big enough to truly take advantage of the RemixOS windowing capabilities... But, it's still better than not having any windowing capabilities.

One more quick tip - there are apps out there that will let you boost the volume of the device. Right now, I'm using Music Volume EQ to boost the volume, but there are probably better apps out there for this purpose... Will explore more later and post an update if I find a better app.

Hello guys, thank you for creating this thread.
Did anyone have any issue by setting up a password for the lock screen?
I did, and it worked for a couple of times, then it started not to recognize the password (password was correct, no caps lock...). Of course it didn't work after reboot as well.
The only option was to remotely reset the device using the google's tool from another pc. Very annoying. Since then never tried to set another security system for the screen lock.
I'm also getting an a problem after turning off the screen: when I try to turn it on again, most of the time I get a blank screen. I have to try several times to get back to remix os.
Did anyone faced this issue as well?

Regards

I have not tried setting up the lock screen (I just leave mine unlocked). And no, I have not had any issues with a blank screen when turning the device back up. What's strange is that the device does not automatically turn on when opening the screen - at least not on my device - I have to press the power button.
Your issues are probably because of the poor quality control with these device. Somehow, I lucked out and got a "good one", but many people seem to be having build-quality issues with them...

Great posts and many thanks to the OP.
I got a US 2 pin power plug instead of a UK plug. Does anyone know of a similar products power lead that will fit our A1160?
Need help...
Hi,
First, thanks for creating this thread and posting your tips. Obviously there are not a lot of people using this device yet so it is great to find useful info on it.
Since there is no known root solution yet, I tried installing NetGuard as an adbllocking solution that does not require root. I have used it before without any issues. Unfortunately, on the Azpen, every time that I enable it, it blocks all internet access (it is obviously not supposed to do that). I even tried alternative apps like AdClear and got the exact same result. There is something strange going on with the Azpen. I would really appreciate it if anyone had any pointers as to how I could resolve this.
Thanks...
Welp! I had much higher hopes for this device and I haven't even received mine yet! Will this be rootable?
Thanks for creating this, used both your sound clicking tip and the pinch to zoom in. A bit annoying having your fingers in multiple place to zoom in, but what can you do? I'm a college student and have found that I can't access the net with this device due to it's mac address changing each time. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this or if mine is the only one. Just thought I would share that.

That is *really* interesting! Sure enough, if I disable and re-enable the wifi, the MAC address does change!! That makes absolutely no sense - I've never seen such a thing!
I'll look into that a little more - but without root, I doubt there is anything that can be done about it. So strange!
One possible option - set wifi to stay enabled all of the time - maybe that way the MAC will stay the same. You can set that in the wifi settings advanced options. I've found that you have to reboot after setting it to always stay active....

So far I have been impressed for the cost of this unit. I have a few concerns and wanted to see if anyone had input:
1. Since the length of the power chord is so short. Is it possible to use a USB to Barrel jack type of adapter to power this? That way you can attach to a portable power bank?
2. battery power, I find it to not last that long and I find it takes forever to charge. I thought that this would last 5-7 hours unplugged, nope. It was supposed to charge within in a hour, nope. Any ideas on this?
I use an external mouse and click on the trackpad disable button. I find it much easier to use the computer when typing.
I'm looking at Pinebook, a notebook having the same AllWinner processor (CortexA53).
It seems this notebook can run all OSs suppoted by Pine64, such as Android, some linux distro, Windows IOT and they are working on a Chroimum porting (try to have a look at the pin64 forum).
Do you think it would be possible to do the same with A1160 ?
Another solution could be PhoenixOs (as pointed out in some comment on Kickstarter).
There are already some devices with CortexA53 processor running PhoenixOS out of the box.
I honestly don't know what OS's can be ported over to this device yet. I have a feeling that it's never going to have a huge user base though, so I wouldn't expect much from the developers out there.
Now that Chromebooks can run Android apps, this device just isn't quite as interesting as it once was. Basically, you can now get an inexpensive, *high quality* Chromebook and still have most of the advantages of this device, plus the high quality and frequent updates part.
To be completely honest, I have very low expectations for this device in the long-term. With how hot it gets after any real usage, I expect the mainboard to fail in short order. We'll see. Although, so far, I've really been using it pretty heavily and it does seem to be holding up, but it's only been about a week....

Something else I recently noticed - and this may already be a well-known thing with RemixOS... If you close an app by clicking the back arrow on the top-left of the window, you continue to get notifications for that app. But if you close it by clicking the "X" in the top-right of the window, it seems to completely the kill the process and you no longer receive notifications (or if it's an app that stays around and puts a "permanent" notification in the notification tray, the "x" seems to completely stop the app as well and removes its notification item).
At least that's what seems to happen...
Also noticed that even if you setup wifi to stay active even with power off, the unit eventually goes into a "deep sleep" where you will no longer get new email notifications, etc. It even seems to turn wifi off after a while (even though it's set to stay on all of the time).
Lastly, if you have an external mouse connected, close the laptop lid and then move the mouse, it turns the screen back on - even while closed!

Hi All,
Saw this in the comments and thought I would chip in with my experience so far.
I got the 64GB version and so far it is the computer I have paid for.
The track pad as everyone said is very crappy, but I just use an external mouse instead so its not a big problem.
I seem to have a good unit and don't have any problems with the unit.
My only gripe is that the battery kinda sucks and after using it intensive for like 3-4 hrs, it will have almost no battery. I wish it came with my UK adapter instead of the US one, but its okay.
Furthermore, is there anyway to put widgets on it? or Use another launcher?
Has anyone tried to root it or tried to install another OS on top of it? I heard that PhoenixOs is possible?

For what it's worth, my trackpad actually works really well. I was surprised to read all of the complaints about it. I'm guessing that a lot of them are defective?
Regarding the widgets, no - there is no way to use Widgets in Remix OS 2.0 (not sure about 3.0), which is a huge limitation. Widgets are one of the things that make Android so powerful - and I miss them big time in Remix OS...
I too would like to know if there is a way to load PhoenixOS on this device. I thought I saw it mentioned somewhere that it would be possible (maybe one of the updates on Kickstarter?). I will see if I can email Azpen about this. RemixOS 2.0 is really good, but not quite "finished" in my opinion...

Hi! Does somebody receive a blank white screen when laptop booting or waking up?
Every time when I push power button I get a blank white screen... How I can fix it?
