Otterbox case.. Do you use the clear shield??? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I used to have my touch I ALWAYS had a film protector on it.. It was plastic after all..
This EVO I have has a glass screen and from what I have seen its pretty damn hard to scratch it.. IT TAKES ALOT!! to scratch it
I got the commuter case but did not put the shield on it..
Do you guys use it? do you like it/recommend it?
Also if so, is there are technique to putting it on?
THANKS!!
BTW I love this case, But sadly I ordered an extended battery for it so I won't be using it all the time..

I installed it, haven't really noticed a difference in screen responsiveness, plus it's a clear protector, and not textured like a Zagg skin for example.

you got no air bubbles? I mean its almost impossible to get them to install PERFECT.. Its usually always a little off on some corner.. What about you?

I actually think it is the best dry install screen protector there is. It really feels like there isn't one on there at all, and because it is so rigid it is also much easier to install. If you take the time to do it right, it IS possible to get it perfect, with no air bubbles at all.

Steinheil question

I was looking at the Sheinheil full body shield. From their web site it appears to be of the military grade stuff that everybody else uses. I also noticed that they don't use liquid to apply it. It seems similar to the dry apply that bodyguardz now has available. I wanted to know if anybody is using the the full body shield did it make the phone feel too slick in your hand?
the screen is a hard plastic but yeah the full looks like the Zagg
not sure cause i have only used the screen protectors.. both are good.
to be honest. dont waste your money on the full.... from what i have seen when i got a full kit for my TP2 the sides are always a pain to install and the back can be replaced easy, its just a cover.
i have a sedio active and the rugged... both are good and i changed them from time to time...
the actice doesnt add to much bulk to the phone and i can use it with the active holster...
the otter box one looks good too but no holster.
Yep I am only going to get the screen protector since I will have an extended battery. I may go ahead and order the bodyguardz dry apply and try it. I have liked the previous bodyguardz products.

I love my steinheil. It is smooth, not all textured, and almost invisible... Install was a breeze, too.
Same Here, I like the hard screen on the front of the phone, but I used the back piece for awhile and didnt like it, its seems like it didnt cover the whole back and I felt it on the edges.
The other pieces were too complicated (for me atleast) to put on so I skipped it all together.
Do you know if you can still put the innocase on with this screen protector on or will it cause the screen protector to come off?

I'm sure you can fit the phone with the full body shield into a seidio case.... the more you take the phone out of the innocase the more chance you have of the full body shield peeling off.

if you are using the innocase i wouldnt worry about the full kit.. i have used both the anti-fingerprint and now the clear and both are great..
i have the sedio rugged which uses the innocase and i have no problems.. the only thing i would suggest is to be careful when you slide each piece of the case cause you can rub against the protector.. you kinda have to push each piece up a little to go over the protector.. .not sure if that makes sense but im sure you will notice it when you put it on.
i have tried all kinda of protectors and this IMO is one of the best... Clarivue is on the top too but i only tried the privacy...
i will use only those 2 endless i run into something better.
I got my SGP protectors in today. It was easy to install and it does look clear. I am waiting to see if I should be concerned about the bottom corners(the last part that touched the screen). There is air under each corner and I can push it out but after the pressure is gone, the air comes back. As long as it doesn't peel it isn't in the way.
Also I forgot to ask. How do you clean it off? Can you use a glass cleaner or maybe the solution that came with my bodyguardz protector for my hero?

the corners can do that a little bit but it depends how well you cleaned the screen before you put it on... just keep adding pressure to the outside... pushing the air out... mine is perfect.
i just use my tshirt to clean it.. nothing else.
I haven't heard back from SGP yet but this appears to be the same "self-healing" military grade material that is used by the makers of other shields. I did contact NLU and they said the bodyguardz dry apply is the same material so I am betting this is as well.

I believe the directions state a damp cloth. Seems to work well for me. The protector is not glass, just clear like glass.

It's silicon which dries after application.

Who actually uses screen protectors?

Just curious how many people on XDA that have the Captivate and actually use one. (If you do, post the name and what you think)
The Gorilla Glass seems pretty tough to scratch. Anyone have any scratches?
got three of them on ebay for $1.60. I like them... Some day when I take it off to sell it my screen will be PERECT, not "only a few small scratches" and bump the selling price up a few bucks.
its gorilla glass you're wasting your 1.60! doesnt scratch.
$1.60 is a small price to pay just for that little bit of extra insurance... And it is possible to scratch gorilla glass - I did it to my bricked captivate. Thats what happens when you absent mindedly slip your phone into the same pocket your keys are in

this is the stupidest post ive seen all day. it CAN scratch. you have been sold on a product that works really well to prevent scratches better than most.. but still its not perfect, i have slipped my captivate out of one pocket and into another that had a penny in it and it made one small but long scratch.
a screen protector would have easily prevented this from happening....
I just received 3 screen protectors for $1.57 from ebay today. Just put it on and it's barely noticeable other than a haze while the screen is off.
I got them because I'm afraid scratching my screen. (My screen already has several micro scratches that are only noticeable when light shines on it at odd angles.)
I got the matte body cover from phantomskinz, including a screen protector. I can't tell it's there, and it's really smooth (compared to invisibleSHIELD)
Plus the matte body looks really snazzy
Nice thanks for the info peeps!
I was looking into getting a case through casemate...
http://www.otterbox.com/Samsung-Cap...color=20&start=2&cgid=samsung-captivate-cases
And it turns out they give you a screen protector.
I use the ones available at the att stores. I am VERY picky when it comes to these things, this one is crystal clear, and difficult to tell its on there..
After a little practice ( I went through one package just practicing) I am now easily able to get it on without a single bubble or hair in the first try. Best $10 I've spent on a phone accessory.

Right! and the GPS works flawlessly too.. it actually scratches easier than I thought it would. Protectors are a wise investment imo.
it maybe be scratch resistant but not scratch proof. IMO its foolish to take any unnecessary risks damaging your screen.
Im using SGP Steinheil Anti-Fingerprint screen protectors... installs real easy and durable..

You are right ANYTHING can be scratched. See here http://www.amfed.org/t_mohs.htm notice quartz (found in sand regularly found in a pocket) and glass are right at the same level....
I have tried SOOO many screen protectors over the years. From the cheepies you buy at the ATT store, to the really expensive full phone wraps. I HATE screen protectors like zagg, ghost armor, etc. Yes they cover your phone, but your phone is going to be ugly, and a pain to use. They are sticky, discolored, and textured... all bad things if you are trying not to notice your protector.
The best thing I have found is REALOOK. They are crystal clear, thin, and hard. It feels like glass, and looks like glass. They are $10 for 2 of them, and I have not even had to use my second skin. I put one on my GFs phone at night and she didnt even know for a week she had a screen protector, until I told her. I also heard the SteinHeil screenies are about the same quality, just more expensive.
I actually use a Zagg screen protector, I know a lot of people hate the orange peel look but I don't mind it, it's very smooth under my fingers.
I'm in the boat too where I just keep it on there just in case, and as a matter of fact, it fell in my car the other day, and hit the underside of one of my seats, put a pretty good gouge in my screen protector, i know it would have scratched it if I hadn't had something on.
all of us cappy owners know that it has gorilla glass, but better safe than sorry. I would rather know I have a 100% free of scratches original screen than some small little scuffs on it without one..
i put on a steinheil ultra crystal clear screen protector.. depending on installation (no air bubbles) you hardly even notice it is there unless you look closely at the edges..
matte screen protectors i truly loathe, because it distorts the image and makes it blurry on our superamoled screens.. absolute garbage..
I've found the screen protect that comes with all Outterbox cases to be very nice. I think it was the easiest to install. Also I've used Reallook on my wifes Cappy. It feel the same as the Outterbox but you really need to clean the crap out of the glass for it to work well. It's not as forgiving to get the bubbles smoothed out as the Outterbox one...
In any case make sure to use a good glass cleaner before installing one.

Agreed. It most certainly can be scratched. I have a scratch on mine. Barely noticeable, only at certain angles and in the light is that noticeable. My phone is still naked but I do plan on getting a case from Otterbox when I can.

Looking for a Screen Protector

I'm trying to buy a screen protector preferably with a matte finish. I like the fact that its a smooth finish allowing for easy gliding with your fingers. I also looked up crystal clear ones but I do not know how they feel to the touch. Also I'm trying to look for ones with good cutouts (NOT like this: http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-Anti-G...8-6&keywords=galaxy+s3+screen+protector+matte). Can anyone give me some input or links on amazon?
Have you looked into the Spigen SGP Flex HD screen protectors?

It's wet application, so I don't know how comfortable you feel about installing them.

Do your fingers glide across it easily or does it kinda stick? I've put invisible shields on my phones before and I hate that its sticky (even when I first applied it) and the orange peel/yellowing effect
From what I know, the Flex HD is pretty smooth to the touch and you won't have to worry about any orange peel/yellowing effect because it's a high quality product.

not sure about the matte finish or the glide for you, but i can tell you i've had 3 screen protectors on my galaxy s3.
first there was the ZAGG. expensive, full body, etc. the screen protector was decent enough, very plyable and stretchy. uses that press and peel install method. cutouts for the phone suck though. they are cut-downs, not cut outs. more area is exposed than needed. i never did like the feel of it either once it was on. that and the store guy goofed the install, so...tore that off.
then there was the protector that came with Incipio case i bought. way different material. stiff and rigid, a harder plastic feel than the soft plyable ZAGG. i think this is that "crystal" type protector. but the cutouts were worse on this than the ZAGG. even more area exposed because of big cut downs on the top and bottom (lots of area exposed up top basically stretching end to end) i did install it though, and i liked the feel and glide more than the ZAGG. it seems more "slippery". unfortunately the top two corners never took (they are awfully pointy due to the big exposure up top). they seemed to be bent up in the packaging. and so that screen protector also came off (i do like the incipio case though).
now i'm onto the Skinomi. came with a skin. the cut outs are actual cut outs. no cut downs, no extra exposure. install was a little harder due to alignment, i swear i think they cut it small. i did get everything to line up eventually though. old school install with the spray bottle. material of the Skinomi is probably more ZAGG than Incipio-like, but it's not quite as plyable as the ZAGG. I do actually like the feel on my finger with the Skinomi. It's not the same feel as the Incipio though, it has a little more "sticky" to it than the hard protector did. pretty pleased with it tho, and it's working thus far.... :good:
anyway, if that helps, cool. if not, thanks for the vent.
Moshi is nice and anti glare... It does cover edge to edge but the blue trim covers up the blue pebble finish. I have the sgp nano optics on the way...

I picked up the Flex HD and installation went smooth. Only thing I didn't like was the spray bottle included which sucked. After installation, the screen is smooth as silk, very little "tug" or any of that yellowing effect. Best part is, it comes with 2:good:

Anyone plan to sell their second piece of their flex hd? =)
I saw in a review video from a guy who posted it on this forums said it had a rubber feel to it. I'm a swype user and I hate when my finger gets stuck because of that rubber feeling. When I felt matte for the first time, it glided so easily that I would never have problems swyping.

I was never a fan of Zagg products, until I had the HD screen protector installed on my S3. Perfectly clear, and its 100x smoother than regular Invisishield products. Id recommend it to anyone.
so I've had a chance to try a few different screen protectors already and I've found that the edge of the S3 display has a slight curve making it difficult for screen protectors to stay down.
the edges on 3 different sp's have done this. I've tried a full screen and then a few that were smaller than the display and still have issues.
The issue is that thick screen protectors just lift up off the curved display over time..
It sounds like wet SP installs are going good though?

I snagged the Incipio Sicrylic (sp?) off ebay. It's the soft rubber case with the two pieces. A snug rubber piece, and an outer "shell" that snaps onto the rubber case. Works really well actually. My daily case at the moment (better than the vent samsung with coin holder, and a straight skin from skinomi - i have the carbon skin)
I could post a link, but I'm a newb and so that's not allowed. I'll try to take a picture or sometghing and update this or my earlier post. Spent all this money on acc's...might as well share with folks so they don't have to repeat my mistakes....
and to the other poster who mentioned wet installs going well - i'll have to agree. vs the peel install on zagg, and the rgular install on the incipio crystal, i've ben happiest with my work and the protector after the wet install on the skinomi.

I am on my second flex hd and I am taking it off. It's been a week and the "rainbow-like" specks or clouds are appearing. It could be the adhesive that's turning into like colorful sandy appearance. Kinda annoying.
I ordered the Spectre but I am not gonna see it any sooner.
I've used dry application protectors on my other phones but its not going to work with the curved glass of GS3. Good luck.

[REVIEW] Phantomskinz Ultra Clear Full Body

I can not believe how great this turned out for me! Pictures attached...I have always been a fan of the clear skin screen protectors and I have tried them all! (Skinomi, Zagg, etc) The one company I always come back to is the Phantomskinz brand. They seem to just have the smoothest, glass like feel of them all. The presentation of the protector is awesome and installation was just like any other clear skin, but I thought I botched the install a little bit. Just like most clear skin protectors, the next morning came around and the flaws were gone.
I am could not be happier with this screen protector and my wife could not even tell I had a full body screen protector on it! Highly recommend!
Can I still toss a case on it if I wanted to? That looks great might look into that once my phone shows up. Does the finger print reader still work well?
Thanks so much! I do love how this turned out! This phone is so cool! I believe you could toss a case on this but i would not be taking the case on and off multiple times. If you want to use a case, phantomskinz offers a case friendly version. I went with the non case friendly full body.
The fingerprint scanner works perfectly. Just like a screen protector is not even there

So I'm guessing if you drop this, it'll still shatter right?
I'm not really sure and I hope that I don't find out if it will shatter. I have only shattered phones when I didn't have a screen protector on it. I think this skin will protect it well though.
Had this installed 1 week and is still flawless. It even survived a decent fall. Still so happy with this!
What is the back made of? Plastic?
The phantomskinz film on the back is made of the same type film on the front. Gives it a really nice feel and it give the phone a much nicer grip
It's a nicer grip even though it feels like glass? I just got my phone and it seems so dang slippery, wish I could get a Spigen Incredible Shield like my last phone.
Can you take some pictures of the sides? I checked out the website and shows the back protector covers the sides as well and even the top of the pop up camera.
it covers camera ?
The camera works perfectly with this front and back screen protector. I am sure every screen protector works perfectly with the camera because if it didn't that would be one horrible design flaw, lol
I must be abi-normal, lol, I like the provided screen protector and case!
Liking the original screen protector is similar to liking the speakers that came with a TV rather than a sound bar
I just ordered this wrap for my 7 pro. I have the blue one, and it's just too pretty to put a case on. Does it make it less slippery?
Definitely improves the grip a ton! Love the feel of it.

Thank you for the review, I've been looking at this product for sometime but didn't pull the trigger . I always used dbrand , is it hard to install it ? How long it took to deliver? Also really curious about how matte looks...
Dbrand is good and I have used them but I don't believe they make one that covers the edges like this one. Install is the same as dbrand if you get the skin and pretty easy. If you get the ultra clear it is like any other screen protector install. Can be a little tough but in a day always comes out so nice for me.
Mine is the ultra clear full body and it has help up perfectly. Even gives it a nice grip and a great feel. Took about 3 to 4 days after I ordered to get to me in the USA.

Question Factory Fit Screen Protector - Terrible or just me?

Title says it all really, I just unboxed my 9 Pro and the pre-fitted protector feels really thick and makes swiping feel like it is through treacle.
Anybody else?
The complaints with this phone just keep growing
Not really a complaint as I will just remove it, was just curious.
Oh no man not saying you're complaining...it's just seeming like oneplus rushed this release a bit
If I decide to keep the phone, I'm removing the factory installed screen protector. I agree, swiping isn't great, and it seems to sometimes interfere with fingerprint detection and get me locked out of apps.
Factory installed protector feels fine to me and I appreciate having it on there while available accessories fill and round out a bit.
I really have no complaints about the device. The single issue I have is that it wants me to install the latest update again, but it can't... so I just hid that notification for now.
I usually leave the factory fit protectors on but this one feels like it dulls the touch response a little, either that or it's fine and there is afault on the phone itself (doubtful)
Like the phone mostly so far, only negative is they removed DC dimming, when did that happen?
Feels the same as oneplus 8 pro, but I hated that factory one. It peeled quick on the edges. My oneplus 7 pro never peeled. Overall this phone seems to work just fine. People will always complain. Don't like it? return it! You have options, it's a competitive market.

Title says it all really, I just unboxed my 9 Pro and the pre-fitted protector feels really thick and makes swiping feel like it is through treacle.

If this is similar to the oneplus 8 pro, I kinda preferred it. It wasn't as bad as that atrocious z gold 2 screen protector and it is way more scratch resistant than other pre-installed ones. I haven't checked it out yet. Still waiting for my case before I take it out of the box, lol.
Every oneplus I have had that came with the factory protector just sucks, its not slippery to allow your finger to glide across the screen, so I always remove it and use it as is.
Yep took mine off, with the smoothness and also the rather sharp edges catching all the time with edge swipes it was annoying. Bought the Spigen NeoFlex TPU protectors and they are junk too, edges don't stick down so will come off or get dirty quickly. (Sending them back)

Is the swiping and touch response better with it removed?

Yes it's as good as any other phone now, screen is nice and smooth with no mistouches or bad responses.

T-minus hours or days until the mysterious scratches start to appear...

The stock screen protector was thick and peeling off for me, so I switched to Gadgetshieldz screen protector which I've been using for 3 months and I like it. Since It's a very thin film screen protector, so I can't feel it on my display and it gives good protection against scratches.
It maybe down to the individual and which batch your phone is from, I've still got the factory screen film on the phone and using it with a ringke fusion case. I'm glad I kept the screen protector on as it's had a few scratches, some are quite deep from where I've put the phone in a pocket with keys! I now make sure I avoid doing that.
I dont agree with this. My first oneplus was 3 and it took some time to even realise that there was screen protector at all. And if you can look past that op is very lazy releasing sources its not a bad device at all. My op8p had terrble display and changed it was it like 3 times..
The whitestone dome feels like the original screen and is very nice if you can install it without any bubbles showing. I recommend installing it by hand without the little frame it comes with.

I'm having the exact same setup xD Factory film and ringke fusion case is a sleek combo. Although the factory screen film is peeling off already it's protecting from scratches, thats what I need, as the case is covering the rest! Amazing setup bro!
