I have Android version 2.2, Baseband version 2.05.00.06.11, Kernel version 2.6.32.17-g9a2fc16 [email protected] #1, Build number 20101014. Is it safe to use just any old RUU to roll back to something like 2.2 or does the baseband and kernel version matter when doing something like that? I have 2.2 and my wife has 2.1 update 1. I would like to get us both to 2.2 stock and then root it from there, rather than a custom mod. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Just make sure you are in S-ON when flashing the RUU and do not have the 09.01 radio installed.
Be very careful and make sure you have the correct RUU or you will only boot into fast boot I did it my self then re rooted.
its really not necessary. every build so far has a rooted version posted here with nothing else changed. not a big deal either way i guess... just wondering why you want to make it harder then it needs to be.
this is a get back to stock thread its in general dinc forum, i cant post links but u can find it. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786436
Thread moved to Q&A.

I'm using unrevoked and have a rooted phone. Not running any custom ROMS. Dont really want to at this point I guess but I do want the radio fix.
My software is as follows:
Baseband version - 1.39.00.05.31
Build number - 1.32.651.6
I think that I can simply uninstall unrevoked and go back to stock but I haven't tried. What I really want is the latest enhancements that came via the last update that I didn't install. On top of that, I still want root so I can run things like Titanium Backup.
What do I need to do to accomplish this safely? If there's a such a thing as a newer unrevoked that brings the latest features to my phone, will I be able to go back to stock if I apply it? I always want to retain the ability to go back to a non-rooted phone if needed.
I tired taking a look at the dev thread but my brain almost exploded.
Thanks!
I don't know anything about unrevoked, but you should check the dev section and search for simpleroot
If you follow the instructions it can easily get you rooted.
And you can always go back to stock with a RUU once you are rooted this way.
I think this would be for your edition if you get rid of unrevoked:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706411&highlight=simple+root
and this would be for the newest update if you apply that before rooting:

I have a somewhat unique situation that I haven't been able to peace together after 6 days of searching threads. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!
My elderly mother bought an EVO recently after I bought one and some idiot talked her into running the 3.30 RUU on an EVO with software 3.26.651.6, baseband 2.15.00.07.28, and hardware ver 3. This also upgraded her HBOOT to ver 2.02. From my thread searching, it seems that 3.30 isn't intended for EVO's with HW ver 3 and may impact the phone's performance and/or battery life. I do believe that there was an OTA for her phone for 3.29.651.5.
I am wondering if it is possible to downgrade her HBOOT and sw back to 3.26.651.6 and the corresponding HBOOT version? I would then want to apply the OTA to update to 3.29.651.5, where she should be. She NEEDS to have a stock phone . From searching threads it appears that I need to root her phone using the 'like a boss" method and then run the RUU 3.26.651.6. However, I am unable to find the stock 3.26 recovery img needed. I do have the stock 3.30 recovery img but am reluctant to use a different recovery img.
Help please, if you can!
A little direction if you can...
Anyone? Just looking for a little direction here. Also, trying to follow the rules and keep this out of the dev section...
Not a noob to rooting, just to the EVO. Rooted my old hero and flashed a few diff roms...just want to make sure I have the right info and am prepared before I start rooting the phone. I really have searched MANY threads and I feel confident about rooting the phone via "Like a boss" and illogos's updates but I didn't find anything about successfully un-rooting to a pre 3.30 software version.
Can I just run the RUU for 3.26xxx after rooting? I'm assuming that will be fine with S-Off and an older hboot.
Ok let start by getting a few things out of the way.
1 I'm sorta a Noob ok kick me crack a joke or two I don't care as long as you help
2. I have Htc evo of course running stock 2.2 (baseband ver 2.15.00.11.19)
Kernel ver 2.6.32.17-gee557fd htc-kernel and18-2 #15) (S-ON)
Radio-2.15.00.11.19 and I'm using a Mac (if that help)
3. I rooted it using the unrevoked method.
The device works fine but bit I'm having a big issue trying to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3.
I have been trying to unroot the phone so that I can update OTA.
But no matter how many times I try to unroot it my super user is still there
I would rather flash the phone to a 2.3 GB rom thats 2.3 with sense 2.1 or 3.0.
I've tried this the method found on youtube using the s-on and dropping the image file (zip) on the sd card and flashing it
by making sure you install the (s-on) patch
and re-flashing the RUU (PC36IMG).
but when I did that it said that i was re-flashing a old version.. so I found a newer version.
But when I drop it on my SD card as (PC36IMG.zip) it reads it, checks it then... takes me right back to the Hbot screen like nothing never happen!!!
I've been working on this for 3 days I've even tried restoring and everything.
I've been searching online for answers but I can't find anything that helps either its not up to date or just flat out dont work.
at the end of the day i just want a damn evo running BG 2.3 sense 2.1 or 3.0 would be nice.
oh by the way when i try to run the OTA it reboots startes to load get about 35% then goes to the exclamation mark / triangle.
I'm out of options please help me out! I've searched and read on for about 3 days now.
please either help flash the device to a stable working 2.3 with sense 2.1-3 or un root it so i can update it ota and re root it again...

Wow man, between the general and q&a sections there are seven threads dealing with this very topic. Yet you couldn't find any of them?
If you want to unroot and take the ota you will need to flash the s-on update and run the 3.70 ruu to unroot. Once you do that you'll be completely unrooted and like new. Then just take the update and it should go through without any issues. If, however, your bootloader shows a firmware version higher than 3.70 and you are s-on then I'm sorry to say you are stuck like that.

I've dont that and i still can not remove the root
You'll need to flash the PC36IMG through fastboot to see what's going wrong with it then. To do that download the AutoRoot tools zip and the PC36IMG_3.70.651.1.zip from the link below. Once you have them both unzip the tools folder and place the PC36IMG in it, then run the FlashZip script and tell it to flash the 3.70.651.1 zip
It should flash ok but if not it'll give you an error message saying what went wrong with it. Keep in mind you're going to be completely unrooted if your bootloader shows S-ON.

What HBoot do you have... I think just flashing one of the stock GB roms probably would of been easier just my opinion....
Sent from my EVO rocking Evervolv Gingerbread
i just found a ruu for 3.70.651.1 ... installing so far so good
You do realize that you'll lose root until a new method is found, correct? If you want to stay rooted, you need to reroot, then flash the stock rooted 2.3 rom.
If you want a newer version of Sense, you'll be outta luck there too - the new update is same ol' Sense 1.0.
Just making sure you realize this, since so many people are whining about not being able to root the OTA and being stuck with the uneventful update.

hey guys i got it working thanks for your help!!!!
Hello Supersonic Community,
I come to you in my time of need, I have spend the last 3 days at work trying to downgrade an Evo 4g to 2.1. from 2.2.
Initially I ran unrEVOked3 reflash package as from what I read it would probably be the easiest place to start from an unrooted 2.2.
Once I was rooted on 2.2 I followed the guide from here
and used the RUU/Zip files from here
I currently have the phone in a state where it will only load into the bootloader and I do have a working amon ra recovery.
When I try flashing the RUU's PC36img.zip file from hboot I see that it "checks" the zip file however I am not prompted to run the update.
and when trying to run the RUU zip file from recover it says there is not update script.
My main question is if anyone knows why I am not prompted for the update from Hboot or if its possible to flash from recovery back to stock 2.1
I come from a Nexus S and HTC Desire background and have a bit of knowledge just kinda stumped right now on this one. I am currently trying different SD cards for the hboot flash as I have read that it can be a bit finicky.
Thanks in advance for any help.
PHone info
Android version 2.2
Baseband version 2.12.00.09.01
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-ge2fb08e
[email protected] #11
Build number 3.29.651.5 CL252548 release-keys
Software number 3.29.651.5
Browser version Webkit 3.1
PRI version 1.77_003
PRL version 60675
Hardware version 0003
h-boot 0.79.00
It all goes back to the Hboot version you have. I think it's anything over 2.10 you can't downgrade.
I think your best bet is to just flash a stock/Rooted 2.1 ROM or a custom Froyo ROM
Well my HBoot is .79 so I hopefully can recover to 2.1.
I basically can't have a rooted phone, I work in mobile QA and we can't test on devices that are rooted. Which I know is a bit retarded but thats how it works for us right now.
If I flash a stock 2.1 rooted Rom I should be able to unroot.... at the very least uninstalled su and my boss won't know hehe
Thanks for your reply.
Did your phone come with that hboot? If your hboot and radio match the ruu you are trying to flash, then it should be good to go. If you r s-off while trying, even better. Do you have 20k or 40k block sizes?

**********HBOOT VERSION IS .79 *************** TYPO IN OP
That would be the Hboot it came with these are testing devices at my work. they are ALL STOCK unless i personally change it as no one else here handles the android phones.
I am unsure of the 20/40 k block sizes you are referring too do you mean on my sd card?
So i have successfully flash a rooted 2.1 stock rom and am trying to uninstall super user. If anyone has any tips on this let me know
Issue resolved.
Set phone into recovery and used ADB to remove the Superuser apk
Thanks for the help
So I rooted my phone through experimentation. Great learning experience but now i want to go backwards i would like to go back and the methods im finding aren't working so im hoping if i supply someone with my info below that i can get the phone back to returning stock.
Please try to be as specific as possible.
Flash: MiUI 4.0.4
Baseband: 2.12.00.12.19
Kernal Version: 2.6.38.8 -tiamet_evo-v4.1.0+
Below is a picture of my bootscreen.
THank you in advance
If you look here in the general section, there are 2 good threads with good info on the 2.18 hboot of how to root, and in your case, to unroot.
