Hi guys,
I have HTC Desire for only a day, but I spent most of that time searching how on earth I can attach a image/photo to a contact in my contact list.
When I take a photo of my friend, I go to photographs, select the photo, press the menu button "set as... contact photo", but then appears only blank searching screen and that is why I could not search anyone. How is that possible?
I have a few dozens, maybe hundrends of contact on my SIM card, but none of them is saved directly in Desire. Is that a problem? If so, how can I move all my contacts from SIM to phone?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, in order to attach a photo to a contact it must be on the phone(or google contact).
You can import your contacts from SIM by opening the dialer, press menu, choose "people", press menu again and choose "import/export", then select "import from sim card". Now you can export them into a phone or google account, both have option for pictures, but there is a blur bug with the google accounts when they're synchronized, i.e. it's better to choose "phone". Finally when the list comes up, you can press menu again to "select all"
Sweet, it works fine now... thanks!

I saw the other week someone asking how to change normal phone contacts into Google contacts, well I found a way.
1. Open People and press menu. Then press import/export.
2. Press export to SD card and then choose the type of contact to export (phone in this case).
3. Delete the contacts from your phone. Press menu, then delete, menu again, select all, and finally delete.
4. Go back to the now empty People list and press menu and import/export.
5. Press the option to import from SD card and then choose the file to import. You will then be able to choose what type of contact you would like them to be made into. In this case select Google.
6. You now have Google contacts on your phone which will sync up with Google.
Let me know if this helps.
Rik.

A question, is there some quick and/or easy to move all contacts to google account, so i can use later facebook pictures etc? Thank you.
Hmm.. I've accomplished that by exporting the numbers to a .CSV file from my old phone and then importing them via the webbased GMail.
My Desire doesn't seem to want to export it's contacts anywhere, though...
I remember when I first inserted my sim into a Magic I imported to Google from it. Haven't looked back since

i think i'll do everything manually....
Go to HTC People
Press Menu
Select Import / Export
Select Export to SD Card
Select SIM
Select OK
Whilst still in HTC People
Press Menu
Select Import/Export
Select Import From SD Card
Select Google
Select Import All vCard Files
Should be done.
wow will try
possibile that will make double contacts maybe?
nope still many contacts "sim" only....ok manually it's
I have done this now, how to import facebook pics to contacts?
go into setting-> accounts and sync
over there you should have a facebook if you set it up on initial set up.make sure sync contacts is selected.
it will try match up facebook contacts with your own contacts.
the ones that do not show up, go into the menu, select people. go onto the person's name.
on the bottom scroll onto the sync looking symbol. it should be between a mail and photo option.
you will then get an option to "link facebook profile" to the user. once this link has been set it will not lose it when you upgrade your OS's
yep noticed now pics
Ok now that i fixed everything....
When someone calls me, and if he's linked to FB account, will his or her pic be shown in dialer?
Something that I thought should be simple but strangely (for Android) it's not.
If you get sent contact details in a vcard, it gets saved to the phone memory. I still can't see how to save that vcard info to my Google account.
Anyone got any ideas? A feature I've missed? An app? I use Handcent but that's a bit poo for vcards so I have to go back to the native Messages app to even view vcards.
Any ideas???
+1
I too need it, by far couldn't succeed that. It would be the best way to keep your contacts with details that sim cannot store.

This is the response I got from HTC when I asked for any method they know to get contacts from the phone to the Google account:
I would advise you to savbe the V-Card to your phones memory, so that it show in your contacts. Then in the People app, press Import/Export then Export to SD card. Choose the contact you wish to export. We have now exported a copy of that contact to the memory card. Now.. We are going to import it back into the phone as a Google contact, so, From the People main screen, press Menu, Import & Export, Import from SD card, choose as 'Google' contact. This will now have made that V-Card a Google contact. If you then Sync your phone to your Google account by going to Menu, Settings, Accounts & Sync, tap 'Sync All' this will send the new contact to your Google account. Then you will be able to see this new contact in your Google Mail - Contacts section.
Click to collapse
The only problem I had with these instructions is that I found exporting contacts is all or nothing. You can't pick and choose. Luckily for me, all my contacts are on my Google account so it was only the one vcard sent by MMS that I wanted to transfer over.

Hi guys. I am having trouble editing or adding info to my contacts.
I have google contacts synced and am only viewing those in my contacts. When I go to edit a contact, like adding a phone number or changing an existing number, I press the save button and it's like nothing happens. I can't press the back button or menu button. If I hit the home button, it takes me to the home screen but if I go back into contacts, it's like its stuck on the contact I was trying to edit. The only thing that functions is the Cancel button, which maddeningly asks if I'd like to discard my changes. If I do that, it simply discards my changes and the info I attempted to add vanishes.
If I go to gmail and edit the contact there, no problem. It syncs to my phone and all is well.
Why can't I edit contacts via the phone itself?
NVM, problem appears to be haxsync related but I still can't edit contacts that are linked to haxsync.
I don't use haxsync but here's an idea: Make sure that when you are viewing your contacts from your phone-that you are actually viewing the entry of the "google account", (and not your haxsync account, or other)
To test this, open Contacts, click on the bottom left Options button, scroll down and select "Contacts to Display". Click on your google account name, and then your will be viewing your google account records only, and you should be able to edit those from your phone...
Let me know what happens.
Some related background: You can't edit a facebook account entry from your phone - even if it is joined with a google account entry of the same name. When you display a contact who is both a google account and facebook contact- (depending what your settings are for "accounts to display") the same contact might have multiple sub-screens: eg. the google one which is editable, and facebook one- which is not.
Here is what I'm trying to do. I would like the "contacts" app to display only the contacts that i have saved to my Google account. I would like those contacts to have their pictures imported from Facebook. If there are contacts with names that don't match their Facebook name exactly, I'd like to be able to link them up.
What is happening right now is that if I only sync existing contacts with Facebook and/or Haxsync, I end up with a LOT of missing pictures. When I "sync all", I end up with all of my Facebook friends populating my contacts app.
Maybe I'm doing it in the wrong order? I assume I can remove my Facebook and Haxsync apps (or clear data), then clear data in the contacts app to start from scratch. What are the steps I need to take from there/
1. Only Google contacts displayed.
2. Contact pictures populated from Facebook.
3. Ability to join names without exact match.
Thank you in advance for the help.
You can sync all with the Facebook app, then join the contacts for the profile pictures within each contact (there is a merge/join contacts option). For names that don't match, they let you manually choose whoever you want to merge, so names don't have to be the same. After that is all done, go to your contacts and click the menu button, there should be an option "Contacts to Display". Hit that, then select your Google account. Enjoy

The other part is that if you hit the menu button in contacts and select "Contacts to display" (you may have to scroll the list down), you then can go down to "Custom List" and click the gear icon to the right. That will allow you to select which contacts display on your phone.
