Mounting of SD Card - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
My HTC Desire is not rooted and when I mount the sd card using the usb cable and then I took out the cable. Some of the applications icons are mission, the icon is replaced by the default Android icon. And when I click on them, it says application not found.
How do I solve that problem?

By not putting them on the sd card

That's not a very helpful response from you.
Anyone else?

Are you trying to install new apps pt placing the .apk files directly on the SD card?
If you want to install new apps from your computer use HTC sync to install the apps instead of mounting your SD card from your phone. HTC sync sends the apps to your system's app directory (can't remember the full path right now) where its installed properly.

He's right though.....
If you're connected to your PC in disk drive mode, then anything on your sd card is unavailable to the phone - including music and any apps you have installed or moved to the sd card. If there's apps you need to use whilst connected in disk drive mode then move them to your device storage - options to do that are in the Applications bit under the system icon.

As in, I mean when I mount the sd card to put in songs and files then after dismounting the sd card, which means I plug off the cable already and the applications do not open.

what, straight away or after a while?
sometimes it takes 30 seconds to a minute for the sd card to remount.
and if you have widgets on the sd card then quite often you need to restart to get them to display again.... widgets on the sd card are a big no-no because of this.
not that I used to worry too much, but I always now use 'safely remove hardware' in windows rather than just unplug - seems to resolve any problems with sd card corruption.

[Q] Phone reboots when put into disk drive mode

Hi there, my phone reboots everytime i put it into disk drive mode. Are the files needed stored on sd card or something? It just goes into the custom splash screen and loads up again :S
Edit: Seems like the custom sense skin is stored on the SD card therefore making it crash. When i mount to charge only again and try to change skin it force closes and comes back with the skin i was using before mounting as disk drive.

same thing happened to me... you use a skin that is located on sd card, you need to move it on your phone so you can connect storage... also make sure launcher and such stuff that is necessary for the phone working properly is installed on phone memory and not on sd card...
How do i make sure it is on the SD Card? I have root explorer but im not sure where the file(s) go.

menu/settings/applications/manage and there you choose app, and move to phone memory, if it is not already on it ...

[Q] Apps on SD card deleted

Every time I plug-in the phone to the PC, it deleting all the apps on the SD card, What should I do ?
Give it a few minutes after you unplug your phone, they should come back. They're not getting deleted. When you plug your phone into the computer, it unmounts your sd card. That means all of your apps that are on your sd card lose their link to the phone. Once the sd card remounts and is completely scanned, the apps are relinked.
I steal have the apps, i just cant enter them, i know what i am saying

This can usually be avoided by unmounting the phone on your pc FIRST (by right clicking the directory and choosing "eject", or by using the icon in the bottom right on the task bar, assuming you're using windows).
Then you should unmount from the phone by selecting "unmount usb storage" or something like that, from the phone itself.
Only when you've done both of these things should you disconnect the cable from the phone. I follow this process every time and I never get the temporary sluggish behaviour after unmounting.

[Q] SD card problems

Hi,
I have a problem with my 32 gb micro SD card.
It always worked fine until one day I one day I removed it and used the plastic adapter to save some media straight from the computer.
Now my phone reads the card (I can see it in My Files and can play the music and the movies) but cannot re-write the data (I cannot take pictures with the camera and save it on the card or update apps - which is really annoying because the phone always restarts). When I run the Task manager / Storage, it shows 0.0b/0.0b as if there was no SD card.
I tried to mount/unmount, turn on and off.
Do you guys have any idea how to solve it? Getting pretty desperate...
Kate
The only thing I can think to do is to transfer all your SD card data to your PC (use your SD adapter and plug card directly into PC).
Then put the card back into your phone, and use your phone to format it. Then it *should* be "problem solved". The only thing is, i think you have to be rooted and have ClockworkMod installed to format your card (the option is under "mounts and storage"). I can't remember the option being there in "stock" OS (it's been a while..lol) But whatever you do, DON'T format your card with your PC....I'm fairly certain that this will cause more problems than it'll fix. To transfer the files back to your card, you should use the USB cable that came with your phone, and plug the phone (containing the SD card) into your pc and transfer the files that way.......

I think you might have unplugged the SD card from your PC 'uncleanly', causing some errors. The Linux kernel of Android detected that, and refused to mount it RW.
In that case, formatting your SD card on the PC should be safe. But, instead of just formatting, I suggest you rebuild the card by deleting all partitions then recreating them. You can use the gratis MiniTool Home Edition to do that.

So, Micro SD card is useless?

So, just realized that using a Micro SD with the Note 2 isn't as easy as just inserting one in. I'm reading that the phone has to be rooted and some other apps have to be downloaded in order for the SD card to be used with the phone. Is that the case? So, if the phone isn't rooted the SD card is useless?
Pictures and videos and any music you may download all go there keeping them off the internal memory makes the SD card very useful.

I believe you were given some very wrong information. You can use a micro SD card on a non rooted phone and no apps have to be downloaded to use one.

That's weird and confusing. I found this info on youtube. The other thing, why isn't my phone recognizing the SD card then? Well, it shows on top but I can't store anything on it as if the phone doesn't recognize it's in.
Maybe its upside down..lol
But you'll need to reboot after inserting it. The phone should say preparing SDCard. Or you can mount it in settings.
Open your camera app and set the storage to Memory Card then you can use your file manager to move your other files to the sdcard..
Also, if you use your browser to download things, you can set the default to the sdcard as well.

Try reformatting it on your computer in fat32.

Not Recognizing SD card

I have a 32gb micro sd. When I plug it in, it displays the small icon in the notifications bar for a few seconds then goes away. I am not able to access the card using any file apps like es file explorer. Storage does not show the card.
My PC see's it no problem. Is their something I'm forgetting to do?

Which version of the tablet do you have? LG Edition (v500) or the Google Play Edition (v510). The GPE is known to have comparability issues with microSD cards. I would suggest rooting and installing a custom ROM if you have the GPE. If you have the LGE everything should work out of the box but you may have gotten a bad unit?
You might also check this thread to see if it helps your problem.
What format is the SD card formatted in?
