Hi all,
Just upgrading to new Imate ROM. Now it seems that Universal has push email can anyone recommend an Exchange SP2 direct push email provider for consumer market? Many thanks for taking the time to read.
Tom C (UK)
The onlyone I know for the moment is 4smartphone.net - if you find any better (means cheaper), let me know!
Some report are saying 4smartphone.net takes 30 seconds to push an email to your device, rather than 5 seconds or less that others are getting via their own exchange servers.
Its worth asking these website exchange account providers what frequency they run the push 'heartbeat' at - you might end up with a big bill if they haven't set the Exchange/firewall to a reasonable rate.
Device SMS Address
I've just signed up for the 4smartphone trial, but Orange are completely unable to tell me what the Device SMS Address should be. They don't have a clue what this is about. I was guessing [email protected], but that doesn't work.
Does anyone know what it should be?

If you're using the aku2 rom then you don't need an sms address. The MSFP/Direct Push works via http not sms. Waaaaaay better!
Settings
I think it is that version. I'm using the new ROM version 1.30.68 with Radio version 1.09.00. I can see the push mail icon in Comm Manager, but it's greyed out, so I'm not sure where to go from here. The 4smartphone support pages are not exactly informative.
Can anyone point me to a website about setting this up? My searches are not getting me far.
Thanks.

Got it working
Just need to ignore the instructions on the 4smartphone web page about SMS Device.
From the moment of clicking send on my Desktop to the email arriving in my device inbox the time taken is about 25 secs, which includes gmail forwarding it to the 4smartphone address.
4smartPhone Help!!
Glad to hear that you got the SMS problem sorted which help me out too. I can now sync with contacts but what do I do for the email. Do I have to set an account up on WM5 which I have done but there is no push coming through I have to manually send and receive. Any help much welcome. Thanks
You need to set it up using active sync in WM5. You will need to add a server (secure.4smartphone.net) then your username, password and domain (4smartphone). It will then sync using the GPRS connection.
I've got Outlook desktop, Outlook Web Access (with smartphone) and Outlook on WM5 all synchronizing nicely. My only problem is that I have three pop email account on Outlook desktop, but 4smartphone only seems to work with one.
And just to add the obvious, you need to have email being forward to the address that you got @smartphone.com

4Smartphone.net are US based, where email to SMS is very common. It took the Americans about three years to wake up to the fact that everyone else in the world has to pay for SMS messages to be sent - hence the new push technology from Microsoft.
What they are referring to is a feature known as AUTD (always up to date) which is how Exchange used to do push. A specially created SMS text message would be sent to your phone which told your device that something had changed, and it would then do a sync.
I am told that it worked very well - it is just unfortunate that for everyone outside of the USA the feature would cost many thousands to run for each single user.
Simon.
4smartPhone Help!!
Thanks for your quick reply. I have forwarding set up and all the correct settings for Active Syn in WM5, UserName, Password, Domain and Save password. Under the Options in ActiveSync there now appears and Exchange Server with the following selected Contacts, Calendar, E-Mail, Tasks.
I'm still not sure though what to do with the email all the above are syncing via 3g. In the Messages section do I have to create a new account and if so what are the correct setting for this?
Thanks again for the help and suggestions.
Tom C.
When it syncs with the Exchange server it automatically goes into the Outlook email inbox on your device. If you've previously been synchronizing with the desktop it wipes out those emails, which is why I'm trying the Pro version of 4smartphone and synchronising all three.
Have you checked if test emails you are sending are reaching the 4smartphone email address? You can do that by logging into the web version of Outlook via the link on their website.
Also the push email icon in Com Manager should now be working and it will say Microsoft DirectPush at the top.
That may not be much help, but I am also completely new to this.
4smartPhone
Once again thanks for the help. Just about got it sorted as I read your reply. The missing link for me is that the you don't have to sent up a seperate email account I was looking for server addresses extra but all those go under ActiveSync. Getting mails fine now but not too sure yet about sending them. Are yours sending fine or is there a delay?
Thanks again, you are still once step ahead of me
I've got Push email working with mail2web.com and have a few questions:
I've gota couple of email addresses that won't forward to my mail2web email account and I don't really want to use mail2web's harvester as that only checks once every hour, so I was wondering whether it's possible to set Outlook on my PC to synce with my mail2web account so that my PC will download emails from my POP accounts, then upload them to my mail2web server, which then pushes the emails to my phone?
Or is there a simpler way to do it?
Also, when I reply to an email that's been pushed the reply address is always my mail2web email address, which is a pain as it confuses people and gets rejected by my email groups. How can I change the default address that my replies go from, or even just change them on each email as I reply?
I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.! Cheers.

I am looking to forward my personal email address through Yahoo because of their Spam filtering. I've got Thunderbird setup with Webmail/Yahoo extension so I can check my Yahoo email.
Question for ya'll. Is there a way that the Yahoo Mail app could be setup where when I click reply, the replied message has my personal email address not my Yahoo email address? or will I need to modify my signature to state to reply back to my personal email address?
If you understand what I am asking, awesome. If there is some other app I can pull this off with, please say so.
Today, I received a scam email to the account I created solely to join XDA developers, eg [email protected]
My privacy settings do not allow other users to send me email., Are there any other users who have recently received a similar email (see below)? Has the email database of xda been compromised?

Yes, I received the exact same email
Title of email was Diablo 3 but email is about WoW? These scammers are getting more stupid
I haven't got the email

I've had this before and suffered no ill effects because of it. It's a very common one.
Someone brought this up before and our server guy assures us that our database has not been compromised. If it's a Gmail account then set up the extra security features and view the log in info for peace of mind.
Obviously you shouldn't reply or anything but you already knew that...

Is it by any chance hotmail?
They had an issue not long ago when loads of people got spammed with these, reporting them to blizzard themselves can help them bring them down

I received the Diablo III email today to my customised account as well. It is using my own email server, not hotmail, gmail or any of the other online free ones and the format is [email protected] I don't use this email address anywhere else and I've never written it in a publicly viewable area. I've checked my XDA account and as far as I can see the email address is not publicly visible. I use customised addresses like this for each site I register with so I can tell where spam email is coming from, so exactly this kind of situation.
Just got my first email spam (also a diablo III phish) to my specific xda email address. The only other gaming related phishing emails I get is to a email address that was forum compromised several years ago. This is also not generated from a dictionary attack to my server.
Your email address database may not have been compromised, but I would not be surprised if one of your moderators / admins or such that has visible access to visible email addresses on the forums is being screen scraped by a virus.
Could be although the last time I posted here (besides in this thread) was months ago, in March.

We have checked our own logs to look for any kind of suspicious activity like scraping, and I believe none was found. The list of privileged accounts is checked regularly, along with removal from anyone no longer requiring it, to prevent this.
We continue to investigate. I've got a number of accounts on XDA registered with different email addresses though, and haven't seen anything like this. I'll continue to look into this.
Thanks for your diligence. As we all know the email account listing swipe/accrual/etc didn't have to be anything recent. This could be from anytime between 2010 and now, somebody has just managed to monetize/find usefulness in the data currently.
There's another thread about this with more replies over here.
Same here
Got the same email today.
I'll flag the server admin, though I'm not sure it's on our end as our database is secure and we don't share any contact details.
Also, another thread exists on this so let's just use one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835116
I tried to update my e-mail address some days ago, from my old domain to my one, but couldn't get your Web site to send me an activation e-mail to verify the new e-mail address for the life of me. I'd submitted the contact form with all information requesting manual assistance/intervention to facilitate the re-activation/verification of my account. However, no reply has been received.
As such, I was forced to update my e-mail address back to my old domain and received the verification e-mail there (which, by the way, forwards to my new address/domain). There was a bit of a delay from the time that I submitted the e-mail address and when I received the e-mail, but at least, it eventually arrived.
Can somebody please offer some assistance in getting my new e-mail address associated with my account and activated? I have no issue receiving mail from anywhere else at my new address, and yes, I checked the junk/SPAM folder for it.

To change the email in your xda account, just login to xda, then navigate to "Control Panel" (at the top - right, under your "Welcome, ..." your xda-name).
Then navigate to "Your Profile" > "Edit Your Details" > "EMAIL & PASSWORD" click on the bttuon "Edit EMAIL & PASSWORD".
Alternatively you can navigate to "SETTINGS & OPTIONS" > "Edit EMail & Password".
You should also check your general options under "SETTINGS & OPTIONS" > "Edit Options" > "Messageing & Notification".

I have changed your email address, and sent you a test email. You do not need to activate the address, but please ensure you can receive emails, or you'll lose features like password reset, and subscriptions.

Thanks for that. I'll check my e-mail later when I get a chance.
It's weird though as XDA has been the only place that I'd not received e-mail from directly. All other activation e-mails were delivered almost instantly. That, and I heavily depend upon e-mail for my business. My clients have never reported any issues either.
With that said, my old domain forwards to my new one. And, I know that e-mails from XDA to it are forwarded on to my new address without issue.
Perhaps, if you have an administrator who could check your mail server at some point when they have a chance for any frozen mail to the new address or any other failures. Offhand, at the moment, I'm not sure as to why there are issues with XDA only.

I'll ask him to check the outgoing mail logs, but AFAIK our servers are set up correctly (else I think more than one person would have issues! )

I'd meant to reply here a few days ago, but have been busy with work. However, I'm now receiving e-mails from XDA to my new domain. Please thank whoever did whatever to fix the issue.
Hi all,
Is there a decent email app out there that remembers the email addresses you have used in the past..ie that has an automatic address book and then auto completes addresses as you type them..? It would be nice to have the options for things like add all replied to addresses to address book and stuff like that.
Nearly none of my contacts have associated email addresses, just regular mobile numbers so unless I am replying to a message I dont have the email address to hand.
Thanks
