Hello everybody,
today I have to ask if somebody has a solution for me
When I click sometimes on different apps just with the finger they minimze. I don't know why is there a special gesture or something? Its really strange..
FTouchFlo is disabled of course..
But maybe my device is just going to die
You know what, i have had that happen to me too!! Mine mostly happens when I press the centre key in the dpad, but i think it has happened one other time when i didnt use that key too.
I dont think its your device, might be something that has to do with WM6.1. Never had that happen in WM6.0.

This behavior is very strange..
I didn't noticed it with the dpad keys yet, just when pressing the touch screen somewhere.. It also seems to happen more often when the memory is very full or pressing on the right screen edge. Regards

This happens also to me When I am in the PIE, and making the scroll down in the Scrollbar and press the black right screen edge.

Well, didn't found any solution yet but will looking for..
I agree with ICE, it does happen to me when using touch screen also. Maybe its an alignment issue?
It is an alignment issue! I am having this too! Touch screen smoetimes thinks that you press upper corner of the screen! I think this is Windows Mobile problem but also it may be a hardware issue!

I guess early WM6.0 releases had some screen alignment issues, but the more i read, it is related to hardware issue...LOL
I have the same problem!!!
Never had screen alignment issues, but my screen has damages from stylus on the "X" button from pressing there and on the scroll bar from scrolling while surfing the internet, I think that is the cause of the problem with my device..
I must say it is really annoying and made me realize I will NEVER use stylus in my life..
Just my 2 cents..
I've noticed the same problem occasionally, and from memory it (maybe) happened a lot more on some of the early WM6.1 ROMs. I haven't noticed it for a while though.
Do you think its the same as in the wiki? HT646 on http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Problems
Where the right corner keeps touching. If you've got any xbutton installed, its bound to minimize. Some of the problems farther down link this to the screen heating up and eventually not working till it cools down.

Well it happens even in the morning when the phone is fully charged, and hasnt been used/touched/handled in over 8 hours, so I doubt its a heat issue.
Shamanix, are you saying this whole problem may be caused by the HTC X Button software?
Happens to me also but only since I switched to 6.1 ROM's
I also had this issue on 6.0.
Can't really believe that this is an hardware bug, maybe a special hermes "feature"
Yesterday, when I was scrolling over the edge I saw the x button going down *lol*
Would be interesting if kaiser users have the same problems.
No I am not saying it is because of X-Button software... I said that I have damaged my screen when I was pressing "X" and "OK" button with stylus in the top right corner and that I have damaged right part of the screen where the scroll bar is again with stylus while I was surfing the web and scrolling so now when I press over the damaged area ( right side of the screen ) I can see X button going down just like Pay said..
So my problem is in damaged screen...
You can`t see the damage, but you can feel it with the stylus...
i have apps closing in random occasions as well. it didn't happen before using wm6.0 but it happened on almost every wm6.1 rom i flashed. i try avoiding the htx x button so i don't think it's related to it.
Im on WM6 with ftouchflo enabled and x-button bind to close apps. Happens to me also sometimes A bit annoying but I think I'll manage.
There appear to be many issues concerning the screenpart of the Hermes. I am not suggesting that this problem actualy is one of them but you might have a closer look to the space between the screen and the plastic of the housing. My whitescreenissues and the screen alignmentissues many people suffer from are caused by the thin layer of foam that HTC sticks the screen to the housing with. I recently put some new foam/tape in between and it helped me with my whitescreen issues. In the beginning I put to much and at that time touching the top plastic parts caused all sorts of reactions normally caused by touching the screen,.
Just a thought...
D2D
Just curious.
IMO I think it's worthless and redundant. Since I can already tap 'Start' on the touch screen, why do we need a button that accomplishes the same thing? Seems like Windows only added it to remind people that they're using a Windows product They should have used this button for something useful.
Actually, I'm not very fond of any of the buttons on the front since the functionality is redundant. Now if only there was a D-Pad.....
It is my understanding that a hardware start button is a requirement for WM7. This is yet another sign that our phones may be capable of an upgrade to 7.
In answer to the question, no I do not use it!

I noticed on this keyboard remapper that the button is labeled as 'Home'. Regardless of the name, but function appears to be the same.

Negative. On the Tmo TP2, the Home button takes you to the Home tab. It doesn't bring the Start Menu up at all.
I find the hardware key more convenient to access quickly than the upper corner of the screen - probably because of the long reach with my thumb when operating one-handed.
In Spb Mobile Shell, there's a setting to replace the function of the software Start button in the top corner so that it displays Shell's program launcher instead of the Windows Mobile programs.
That's great, but this setting doesn't seem to have any effect on the hardware button. Any thoughts?
Works great to launch QuickLauncher.

Interesting. I guess the TMo version is more useful then the Sprint version.
I try to use the hardware button as it is more convenient for me, but I am so use to hitting the start button on the top of the screen that I find my self doing that more than pressing the actual hardware key. Still trying to untrain myself.
I like that it is there regardless so it doesn't bother me.
As kd8fre said, I think this is there for future upgrades. Probably just getting the phone set up and ready. Because I haven't seen this button for A long time on an HTC device (Diamond, TP, HD...)

Officially, not a hope in hell. WM7 devices must have a capacitive screen and a hardware compass, and the TP2 has neither. Many WM6.1 devices can be upgraded to 6.5; virtually none will officially get 7. There may be some unofficial hacks, of course.
Hello everybody! My htc desire's physical buttons(actually just the volume up, home and menu keys) don't work...I press them but nothing happens. Well, they work sometimes, but when they don't I reboot my phone, randomly press some buttons, and they start working again. I just don't know what the fault is. Im on MildWild CM 4.3. I think the same problem was with other firmwares too. Can you please solve my problem?
If your device is under warrantly just send it to htc. It's a hardware problem, not something that you can solve with a script.
Ah, so you're telling me there's nothing that can be done to repair it? Cuz, my device isn't in warranty(I just replaced the casing)...

I don't know.. I don't want to be pessimistic, maybe you can search for similar problem in internet and a possibile solution, not just for Desire but in general for devices that have hardkeys. Maybe like use a spray for electric contacts while device is turn off and wait that it's completly dry before turn it on. Good luck.
I can't remember it, but I think that this problem appeared only after I got my casing changed. Could the technician have done something wrong? Can I send it to the man that changed the casing?
It's probably just some dust that gathered underneath the buttons. I had the same problem with the volume down button. I used a needle to clean the dust around it, and then it worked perfectly.
I dont think it could be due to the dust, cuz there are three buttons which simultaneously stop and start working... It's a bit strange tho..
I have issues now with my power button. It's unreliable... that is, the button sometimes works. Sometimes when I press it, it opens the shutdown menu..
Started all of a sudden. Not sure how that happened... and it's out of warrenty for 4 months now..
That is why I use Button Savior
Same!
I am getting the same problem. I have replaced the keypad flex with a new one and still getting the same issue. It would start working randomly like if I open the browser and open many tabs, then it would work. Funny thing is that they would not even work when I go in recovery.
My desire is 2yrs old now but I still love it.

Same problem here.
Mostly happens with Home and menĂ¹. Less often with volume buttons.
For now I'm using the "button saviour app" workaround, but if is something hardware I will know it very soon... (made a copy of my rom on a friend's HTC Desire)

All three buttons simultaneously! Buttons usually fail gradually one by one and drive you mad finally. I would put my money on the keypads being misaligned during whatever you got done with casing. Take it back to him.
If its some kind of misalignment no amount of sprays will help.
BTW I use zmooth for button conservation
use soft key instead

I had the same issues : menu button working randomly, had to press very strong on up/down volume buttons.
I've dismounted my phone (using this : http://www.formymobile.co.uk/desiredisassembly.php ), and I saw that there were a lot of dust, hairs.. I tried to clean up/down volume buttons the best way I could, and they both work so much better now! Not totally perfect though.
By the way, I noticed that there was a lot of compressed dust in micro-USB connector and was able to remove it fully (thing I couldn't do without dismounting phone).
I didn't want to go farther to access menu/home buttons because I didn't have time and Menu button works quite OK.
I have the same issue here with the volume buttons they tend to get unresponsive and unreliable.
Even though all the parts were renewed since six months ago, the volume buttons are probably bad designed?

You could replace bad working buttons' functions with others'. My volume down isn't working, so I made my search button act like a vol down.

Not possible. With the power completely off.... The capacitive keys won't work.
Your options can be found in some custom roms, or kernels for waking the device tho.
There's sweep to wake, found in some kernels.
Or volume button to wake. Found in some roms. You'd have to read the opening posts or ask in those threads to see which have those options.
If your device is powered off tho.... I'm not sure if pulling the battery and putting it back in starts the phone or not.... Been awhile.
Either way... You're in for lots of inconvenience. Personally... I'd phone shop. Used phones are a cheap option.... The Moto G or E are very cheap... Brand new. The S2 is pretty old now.... Paying to have it repaired is an option... But the money is probably better spent towards an updated phone.
Just my opinion. ?
Well I managed to remap the search button as the power button but you are right it does not work when the phone is in sleep.I am using Shadow ROM and it has the volume wake option so I use the volume buttons to wake the phone and the search button to put it to sleep. It's a little inconvenient but it works. The only problem I could face would be that if the phone somehow hangs and I have to turn it off by taking out the battery then it will not turn on without plugging in the charger.I just hope this situation does not come.
I think I will run this S2 for a few months and then move on to some other phone.Right now I am thinking of a Windows phone such as Lumia.
Can you also tell your opinion about that?
Thanks for the reply.

See my signature. No windows phones. Lol
I know the one Lumia had an awesome camera... 1020 or something. But mediocre reviews on the rest of the phone. And using that camera apparently destroys the battery life. Lol
Also, windows "apps" have a long way to go. Compared to Apple and Android anyway.
But... To each their own. ?

EDIT: Fixed it (for now). Copied from my post on site 2.
What's up guys, I'm sorry for the late followup. It turned out, that I was too lazy to send it back. Now, almost a year later, I'd gotten into fixing phones and got the courage to open up the device and see what's up with the power button. It felt like the issue has been a bit less noticeable recently but I checked the replacement parts prices and how to open our phone up.
I think I've fixed the issue by adding one layer of electrical tape over the button-contact. I believe the issue is that the pin a just a little bit too short to reliably properly click the button.
Short tutorial:
Turn the device off and remove the simcard bracket.
It's actually super easy and you don't need to screw or remove anything. Google "Xiaomi MI A2 LITE disassembly screen battery smontaggio" you'll find a video, in the beginning the guy shows how to remove the backcover. I've used a hard, plectrom-looking "opening-pick" at the bottom, then carefully but firmly around the sites. You don't even need to remove the flex cable from the back, just make sure you don't rip it off. Cut off a short bit from the electrical tape, tape it from the battery to the contact, so it doesn't fall off. Close the case again, turn it on and check whether the powerbutton still clicks (doesn't stick) and test the screen lock. Post back if this has worked or if you've tried it.

Does anybody have a similar issue?
I've ordered the device from gearbest to Europe. Everything worked nicely.
However, recently when I hit the power button it sometimes triggers the double click interaction and opens my camera. I've tested a few ways to press it slightly from the side, with more force or less. However it will 1/3 times vibrate and start the camera like I had double clicked it, it's more likely when I hit it a bit too lightly though. Could it already be worn out after 2 months? This never happened when the device was new as far as I ran remember.
Yes I'm aware that I could change the camera shortcut but this doesn't stop me from worrying about whether my powerbutton will give out soon.
I was using the phone happily in the case Xiaomi has provided. Dropped the phone once and got a little scratch on the VOL Button but other than that, nothing crazy has happened. Does anyone have a clue whether they will still replace it? I'd gotten it in mid-August.
<message deleted>
Buttons are usually the main gate to "planned obsolescence". I bought this device after my nexus 5 power button started working funny (I physically removed it and worked only with gestures). So, now I try not to press the button unless necessary. I unlock with fingerprint, and lock with Greenify.
In other words. Make sure of it, if the button starts working funny, I'd file a warranty claim. Or it won't last long and warranty will expire eventually. It can happen with this device and with any other piece of tech.
My opinion.
If you do place a warranty claim, let us know how xiaomi's customer service works in Europe.

when you dropped it
the power button may have got stuck
this is possible and I've seen it on some other devices
you can open it yourself if you don't care for warranty like i do
but the safest option is to claim warranty and yes they would replace it

I have the exact same issue. It started when I installed the Oreo update, but it could be a coincidence. I'm still looking for a fix.

It obviously is not a software issue. This means that they've used cheap contact points on the button if this happens to many of us. This is a hardware issue.

I'm having this issue since day one. It is obviously software, otherwise the same contact problem would occur when turning the screen ON, but it never happens. Solution is to disable the feature under System -> Gestures -> Jump to camera.
i also dissabled the camera gesture because of this issue.
im sure this is reasoned by a more or less loose power button and not an software issue

How can that be a software issue? Same issue happens to me whenever I use the power button, either to lock the screen or unlock the screen. Also if it was a software issue, it could be fixed via installing a GSI. That doesn't fix it either.

Let me break it down and you can tell me if I'm missing something.
1. Many users are reporting that the camera app starts when pushing the power button to turn the screen off.
2. They are not reporting any other issue with the power button, like the camera app starting when they try to turn the screen on, the button being irresponsive, or the camera app NOT starting when they deliberately push the button twice.
3. The problem reportedly goes away if the double-push gesture is turned off in settings.
Do you still think this is a hardware issue?

When I disable double press gesture from Gestures, still when I sometimes hit the power button, the phone locks and closes the screen and then turns the screen on again which means that it still registers one presses sometimes as double presses. Also if you've ever used a keyboard or a mouse or anything electrical with buttons on it, these appliances do the same sometimes even though you tap one button they sometimes register it twice. Which is a hardware issue. I still can't see any software issue here. When you disable the double press gesture, it doesn't launch the camera anymore but it turns on the screen after locking it (sometimes as usual)
