Overclocking HTC Desire Problem.. - Desire General

Hello.
First of all, I'm new on this forum. Ok, I just rootet my HTC Desire, and tried the app "SetCPU" to overclock my Desire, as i can get better battery life
But the problem is, that i can just overclock the phone to 998 MHz, I've seen on random forums that someone has overclocked their Desire to full frequency, example like 1300 Mhz.
Please I need help with this! Someone?

You won't get better battery live by overclocking, it will drain your phone faster but preform better. If you want to overclock you need to install a custom kernel which allows overclocking, but i suggest you do some more reading before taking actions.

To overclock your Desire you need to use a different kernel (not the stock one). Try flashing Richardtrip's Kernel or a custom ROM (look at the android development section). If you don't know how to root and flash you can found good tutorial in the same section.
But be careful you are doing this at your own risk.

Currently i have DeFrost[ROM] installed on my Desire. Why is the frequency still at 998 MHz?
Thanks

open desire has oc kernel, richardtrip just released an oc kernel for sence roms too here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801435, like i said just use setcpu,
Ok..So what I need is just a ROM manager to flash it right? then backup it before I flash it?
well it depends on which ROM you are running ,
>if you are running some non-sense roms like Open desire or Defrost ,
then you can use setcpu directly ,because it comes with overclocked kernel
>if are using sense ROMs like leedroid, Nextsense etc,
you need a overclocked kernel you can download it from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801915
flash the zip file in recovery mode , then use setcpu
i recommend you to reboot after overclocking ....
If I use OpenDesire rom how much Mhz can it increase after overclock?
That depends on the "quality" of your cpu
(the cpu is guaranteed to work at stock speed, anything higher is a guess, and may be cause of instability)
In case of a "bad" cpu you might be able to get it to ± 1050 Mhz
I've seen "lucky" people mentioning ± 118*Mhz (don't remember the actual number )
And don't forget it will put a extra drain on you battery.
This is something you could have found yourself by searching / reading the Developers sub-forum

my phone works well at 1118mhz, im just waiting for a kernel that will let me oc it abit more
i tested my desire with opendesire-4.33 you can safely overclock your cpu to 1190mhz using setcpu ,,and remember it drains your battery like hell,, set your scaling to on-demand mode.

[Q] Which KERNEL for Stock Sense ROM to OC to 1.7-1.9GHz?

I'm runing stock Sense ROM and would like to flash Kernel that will allow me to overclock to 1.7 or even more.
EDIT: If possible by insmod (oc module + cpu freq table), that would be even better.
+1
and it should not mess up with the Wi-Fi MAC address & Bluetooth
I tried some 1.5GHz/overclock kernel, either of them changed my Wi-Fi MAC or messed up Bluetooth pairings. Now using overclocking module(GodSpeed)

Oh wow that's crazy. Would it be safe to clock it at that speed?
I'd say 1.4GHz is relatively safe, running it for weeks.
1.9-2.0 definitely insane, but I'd like to try 1.7 and maybe higher to see how far it goes.
So would like to know which kernel from G2 forum would work with Sense ROM, or maybe someone could extract the needed files so we could install via insmod.
I think we only need two files: one for OC and the other with voltage table.

The 1.8GHz kernel on G2 forum works on Desire Z, except Bluetooth.
Just tested on my Hong Kong Desire Z, until they fix the BT issue, I will stay with 1.4GHz
Maybe there is a way to unpack that kernel and only take the overclock part of it, that should keep all other stuff working.

[Q] Overclock Question

Hi. I have a S-Off, perm rooted T-Mobile G2 and would like to use this method to overclock my phone:http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/14/ho...ted-s-off-t-mobile-mytouch-4g-or-t-mobile-g2/
Q1: Is it recommended?
Q2: It requires me to use a custom ROM, which I do not want to. Is there an "original" rom that has ADB Remounting which I can use instead?
Thanks in advance.
I'm not able to view the method you've posted from where I'm at right now, but I can tell you that the most stable, "permanent" overclocking experience I ever found when on stock rom is CM's BaconBits (which includes an overclocking kernel among other things) used in conjunction with SetCPU.
you will need Clockworkmod recovery installed on your phone to flash the baconbits zip. I'm guessing you already have this - if not, you just need to install Rom Manager and you will be able to flash cwm recovery through the app.
from there, all you need to do is install setCPU (it's free here on XDA - just search for it) and use it to set your clock speeds.
easy as pie method for overclocking on stock rom.. and my guess is that it will be more stable than anything you get from theunlockr - it seems to me most of their tutorials are a bit outdated for the vision.
Download ROM Manager and use it to download Pershoot's kernel.

you can try pershoot's as well, but I will say that it did not play nice with my G2's stock froyo rom. this was a few months ago though so maybe there has been a remedy and it's working swimmingly now.
if you get pershoot's kernel to work, I would recommend it over baconbits as pershoot is constantly updating and improving it.
Just to clarify.... You need to change your kernel to overclock not your rom. A lot of roms include an overclocked kernel but that doesnt mean you cant flash a kernel with your stock rom. Make sure you set up a heat profile with setcpu so you dont fry your phone.

Thanks guys for all your help.
I went with a more simple solution, and flashed CM7.
Now it looks as nice as the original and has 1.5GHz overclock.
Do I need to set heat profiles for CM7 or the stable release will take care of it?

[Q] Gingerbread Kernels that Support OC/UV

Hi there, I'm running Oxygen 2.1.6. on my Desire, and I'm trying to squeeze a little bit more out of my battery, and owning a Galaxy S as well, with the Galaxy, there are Kernels that Support OC/UV.
I'm wondering if there are any good kernels for Oxygen 2.1.6 (Gingerbread) that support OC/UV Thanks.
snq- 0.6 kernel supports oc/uv I think
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I saw those, but I'm unfamiliar with how to flash these files. I'm used to having a zip file to either flash in CWM, or in Odin ( which the desire doesn't use)
The files in SNQ's are Z-images and .ko's...
I'm more familiar with the more n00b way of flashing kernels :X terribly sorry.

That is a Sense kernel. It is sometimes better not to write anything than to post an erroneous info. And furthermore, uv doesn't work properly with it.

What more do you want from Oxygen? Thalamus kernel supports both uvoc and is probably most efficient kernel as is.
Flash newest oxygen with newest kernel. And I am pretty sure, you will be very happy it. I tested many rom/kernel combinations with software like setcpu und low-voltage-scripts. With oxygen I only reduced maximal cpu frequeny to 768 mhz and min 245 mhz with the included cpu controller and do not get a worse battery life with other roms.
Nice, I'll give it a test. Thanks

[Q] how to overclock HTC Wildfire?

HI,
I want to overclock my HTC Wildfire for batter gaming performance. My device details:
Rooted and running SUnAabh v1.1 ROM
Baseband: 13.55.55.24h_3.35.20.10
kernal 2.6.32.21-g0f9e.... tue noc 30.....
Build Number: vibhu's rom froyo
I am have used SetCPU app but it not working ?
Can any one tell me how to overclock my device.
Thanks
Overclocking wont do much good in terms of gaming performance. Our device lacks gpu which is why games don't work as they should.
Overclocking needs an overclockable krenal. I am using kwbr rom which is sense based as is sunaabh. I use rempuzzle kernal for overclocking on this rom. You can get it from the rempuzzle thread. Alternatively you can use Hcdr kernal.
guys please stop posting in the wrong thread...this is the development thread...move it to the the thread......
and kindly try to use the search button....it solves all your quarries
Has this thread changed section or was I that sleepy I didnt notice it when I replied?? Wierd

Use Cyanogenmod... Performance options (which include overclocking) are integrated inside the rom. Easy as 1 2 3
I want to overclock my device on same ROM, what I need to do ?
Can overclocking improve the games performance ?
I am playing Tekken 3 on my HTC Wildfire Buzz, by using FPse emulator and ISO image of game.
so u have root, and a custom rom. The only thing u are missing is a custom kernel, i think. Flash a kernel that supports your rom and can be overclocked. Than setcpu will work.
The game will run maybe a bit smoother. a gain of 1-5 fps hopefully. Maybe more, but i dont know for sure.

Wow this is an old rom, not seen this pop up for a time.
I used to use fpse(the whole reason i rooted my phone lol) and too played tekken.
Overclocking does help a little but dont expect to be pulling off special moves lol as response is not great even at highest o/c. Mess around with fps in the game/app (cant remember how it works) i think i used 25/30 i got it running quite good at one point but still laggy.
P. S stick with a sense based rom for fpse as it works best on sense on wildfire.
So can you tell me what's new and stable ROM for HTC Wildfire that improve performance.
What I need to do for fast and smooth play of Tekken 3 ?
Reduce frame rate or anything like that ?
Or can you recommend me any good game of PS3 that smoothly run on HTC Wildfire ?
Thanks
Trial and error really but 1st i would flash an o/c kernel. Head to dev section sticky, complete wildfire guide and try jacob flash to any rom kernel or rempuzzle thread and flash rempuzzle kernel.
Then its about testing which values work best for you,use setcpu to adust carefully as setting o/c too high has been known to cause boot loop for some. Go up in settings in parts not straight into 768.good start would be 633 test, then 652 test...... Etc etc
Ive already mentioned about framerate so test different values along with o/c values.
There is only one sense rom. I personally recommend and that is rempuzzle.
Thats it you have to do the rest lol. Goodluck, hope it goes smooth.

Hi
Below is the link to Wildfire complete list of ROM, Kernel etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
Scroll down to Kernel list section to to choose the kernel that match your rom.
For Sense Froyo ROM alternatively you can use Rempuzzle Kernel to OC
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978197
Check the ADD ON section and Package 02.
