Yes boot in fasboot mode then connect via usb.
What would help greatly in this topic is maybe a small explanation as to why people would need to do it in the first place ?
too complicated for me. Im absolutely useless with adb i need an absolute n00b guide to pull this off
Thanks anyway

I think the main problem is that it is unclear what everything does. I mean, i've read a lot of threads and searched a lot, but it is unclear to me what fastboot for example is. I know that you can flash radio's etc with it, but is it just the same as flashing from sd card?
Then S-Off, it will disable the nand security, but what can you do with it? That's after a lot of reading not very clear to me.
Believe me, i've read a lot, but coming from WM to Android it's a lot to learn. There is a thread missing where all these things are explained. Of course I can follow tutorials, but I want to know what I am doing. That's missing in a lot of tutorials, that it just explains how you can root, flash, s-off etc, but not the reason why you should do it, or what the function of everything is.
I hope that i'm not offtopic here

Fyi you dont need to include hboot in the command, infact the command fastboot flash ***FILENAME***.img will suffice

hmm..oke I did not know that ... it did it with hboot and it worked ... so i will not change that. tnx.
a guide for us that currently have ap2sd+ (ext3 partion) would be nice, you dont need it anymore if you get the n1 table right? (if use together with AOSP ROM ex oxygen) How to remove it safely etc.

Just because Android is flashed on the phone instead of WinMo doesn't do magic. It will probably perform the same as from SD-card in case of problems. I believe R/W speed is somewhat faster from nand (different type of ROM than SD-card).
Edit. Besides, isn't there still some problems with nand on GSM phones?

what guide are you using? the recovery img has to be in the same folder as fastboot unless you point it towards a different folder
In the same boat as the OP, I've done everything right and I get this error message in cmd with the black screen and white HTC text.
BTW OP - You can go back to using your phone. Take out the battery (with the usb plug out of the phone or computer) and put it back in and turn the phone on normally. You'll just have to go through the process again of fastboot oem rebootRUU to get back to the black screen with white HTC text.
I'm using the CyanogenMod Wiki HTC Incredible 2 Full Update Guide (since I cannot link it in my post), I dunno what the OP is using. Also, the recovery file is in the appropriate location(s) in the android-sdk-windows folder.
im using the cyanogenmod wiki and i tried putting the recovery image for clockwork into the same folder as fastboot and adb and it still gives me that error and i dont have the technical savvy to figure this out
edit: that would be the platform-tools folder in the android sdk folder, thats what i found people did by googling this
and to finalassault, i took out my battery and tried turning it back on normally i just get stuck at the white screen with the green htc lettering so i clearly messed something up unless i just have to wait a few minutes
Try this guide. Use the clockwork image attached instead of the one from the CM7 guide.

Same error, except it's just coming up as not able to load this file instead of the other one. Maybe I possibly screwed up whilst doing AlphaRev?
Edit - I just did it a different way and I didn't get an error message:
sending 'recovery' (5022 KB)...
OKAY [ 25.776s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 2.254s]
finished. total time: 28.030s
I guess that worked.
Edit 2 - It "worked" but didn't really do anything else. Might have done something wrong on the AlphaRev step. Actually I'll shut up now, something else showed up.
Edit 3 and final edit - Done and done. That was fun.

It sounds like you may have borked your stock rom....if you can boot to hboot and select fastboot then you should be able to flash the CWM from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=14947083
Follow the instructions on the link not the one from CM Wiki. Make sure you have fastboot.exe and CWM image from the link in the same folder as your adb. If you're using windows 7 64bit then you'll need to run adb in compatability mode (at least that's what I had to do to get it working in 64bit).
You should then be able to flash a rooted, deodexed stock froyo sense rom from this link by Jcase http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138274 or use XGunthers Incredibly Debloated Rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138202
That should get you up and runnning. Or you could just jump straight into the GB ASOP roms CM7, MIUI, etc.
Let me know if this works for you....
the first link comes up as 404, appreciate the help
also not quite sure what the compatibility mode is for the adb, kind of a noob here =/
edit: got it in compatibility mode, i suppose i didnt install it right because it looks like it does something for a few seconds then seems to stop

It's okay don't worry...I'm pretty new to this stuff too since I just got into rooting about 2 weeks ago.
Compatability mode is an option in windows 7. Right click on the adb.exe file and select Properties. Once that comes up, you'll need to select the compatability tab on top and choose run in 'Windows XP Service Pack 2' mode (sorry I'm at work and don't have access to my win7 machine). Then click ok and it should run in compatability mode.
Then just follow the flash instructions from the link drcrawfo posted up and you should be good to go!
yea i got the compatibility mode, i must have messed something up pretty bad because adb and fastboot dont seem to do much, they go through a quick thing in the command prompt then dont seem to be active after that, also still cant flash clockworkmod
ok so idk why but i decided to try taking out the sd card and then when i did the flash recovery cwm thing a whole list of commands came up in the command prompt and i have no clue if thats good or bad or what command i should pick
ill list a few just to see if that helps you guys in helping me out
update <filename>
flashhall
flash <partition> [ <filename> ]
and a few more then there were options that followed
edit: and now for somereason it doesnt flash again but if i do fastboot recovery i still get all those options so is there a way to get the cwm to flash through that way

Hmmm..so you have all your files setup in the same folder and when running the commands from cmd they don't do anything? Does it saying anything is being sent?
This may be beyond my expertise. Have you tried posting in the clockwork mod thread in the development section?
Sent from my Incredible 2
I just want to mention that I didn't end up using the exact commands that are given from the wiki, that didn't seem to work for me. I had to mess around with it (including manually pointing cmd to where it was) to get it to work for me. Had all of the drivers, SDK stuff, the path and everything where they should have been. I hope you get this resolved.
nothing is working out for me this is not fun
same boat as you simple but I can still use my phone. I just gave up as none of the methods seemed to work.

You need to open a command window, change the working directory to where adb/fastboot are located and then type adb.exe at the command prompt.
It sounds like you are trying to double-click the adb.exe from Windows Explorer.

Edit: Yeah, well, reading it over with the questions from scsa20 especially, who I know is very experienced, leads me to see that perhaps this guide needs a bit more work. But I really like that you wanted to share what you have learned and I agree that there are some big holes in all of the available guides. Maybe you could address the issues and incorporate scsa20's recommendations...then you'd have a really useful guide and help a lot of people.
Thanks for this, but you have to fix some links, as the are now they don't work

Will these steps flash back stock kernel ? I using tiamat custom kernel such as Odachi. relock bootloader with a custom kernel will make xoom bricked so these step would flash back stock kernel ???
How about turning off caps lock? Oh, and learning how to spell "break"
I'm going to nitpick this as a person who've done this a few times over (but honestly, not too bad of a guide).
TIAMAT 2.2.2 ROM
Click to collapse
Although the Tiamat ROM is awesome, this guide is supposed to be for rooting only from what I can see and so pointing out to download 2.2.2 (not knowing if the user is really on the LTE version which 2.2.2 won't do they'll need 2.3.0). Sticking to just rooting is best and talk about the varies of ROMs as an extra if that's something they wish to proceed with.

hmm.... what? Thinking of this from a "newb" standpoint, this step doesn't make sense. In fact, how do we even get to this first step?
4. type in cd<>the paste address

lol wat? For starters, you can't simply "paste" in a command prompt. If a newb has never used the command prompt, they'll be wondering how to paste, so might want to better explain how (right click and choose paste or click the little C:\ icon on the top left, go to Edit, choose Paste).

6. then type fastboot<>oem<>unlock or (lock to re-lock the bootloader)

That came out of left field when the last step said to just type adb without anything else... oh, wait, you want us to type adb reboot recovery, is that right? gez, you should of made yourself clear on that.

I lump those both into 1 because they don't actually explain what's going on. What you need to do is press the volume down key to change the selection the volume up to select the selection then repeat

This steps is all so wrong, plus the link's broken (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242241 is the real link btw).
Simply flashing the recovery from the Universal Xoom Root won't get you rooted, the proper steps is as follows:
1) Boot into the bootloader (adb reboot bootloader)
2) Flash the recovery to the recovery partition (fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img)
3) Once recovery is flashed, reboot (fastboot reboot)
4) When you get the M logo for the reboot, start pressing the volume down key until you get the option that says Recovery and press the volume up key
5) Flash the zip file containing the root files (choose "Install ZIP from SDCARD" then "Choose ZIP from SDCARD", from there, find the zip file that has the root files that you downloaded from the link posted just above)
I'm not going to touch the restoring to stock, I think I made my point that you should clean up your posts and maybe even checked it (or had someone checked it) before posting it?
(yes, I know I was hard on you but someone gotta do it)
So, yeah, looking over this, it's not really that great of a guide at all because you don't really have anything explained and just have more questions....
And to answer luyenbichta's question, the system.img image will take you out of custom kernel and rom and put you back to stock, once you flash all the images needed you can then issue the fastboot oem lock. Issuing that commend before you have the original images back on will caused you to get an error about the images not being signed, no harm, no foul.
All of this.... AND you can flash HLK75D and save yourself about three hours of manual slow updates!!
Which is available on Motodev, you shouldnt need the link to that by now. Also... no one post after me cause this thread should go buhbye.

Out of curiosity, when you go from root back to stock, does the bootloader automatically lock back, or is that done seperately?

hey sorry for no reply as i havnt got a xoom anymore if you need any help feel free to inbox me if you need any help op will be updated!
Hi,
I would like to recycle my HTC Desire in "tablet",
to give to my three year old son so he can play games.
He loves Angry Birds.
My current configuration :
Hboot Alpharev Data++ / 6.93.1002 - Recovery 4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.5 RC 3 - Radio 5.17.05.23 - Main software version 2.22.73.5 - Security off - Build-mode ship - Rom BCM RC4.0U0 by DK_Zero-Cool
What I want :
- Cut all the phone networks (in any case there will be no SIM card)
- Ability to activate the wi-fi
- No access to parameters
Which rom would be best for that ?
Alternative :
Under CyanogenMod it is possible to have user profiles.
Is it possible to create a profile "plane" by default,
Leaving the possibility to connect admin with password.
Any advice are welcome.
Thank you for reading
Flash the latest CM7 , if it has no simcard then it won't be connected to the network either way, you can turn on flight mode if you want, although what difference that will make I don't know.
You can still connect to wifi etc. with no sim and airplane mode.
So you will essentially have a media device, and I'm guessing that's what you want.
Since you're giving this to your young son, I would also recommend erasing recovery:
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
Furthermore, I'd recommend installing a launcher in which you can hide apps, so you can hide things like settings, SU, etc. I know ADW Launcher EX gives you the ability to change the menu when you press menu from the homescreen, so you could hide settings from there too, and only leave the ADW settings so you could get it back (don't think you can hide apps in that though, checking now). Essentially, you want to make this phone kid-proof, so he doesn't mess something up.
Thank a lot for your answer.
I Will try to do that

Well, maybe fear waves of phone
Anyway, if CyanogenMod can not activate it,
without any SIM card,
it suits me very well. :good:

No, those are fastboot commands, you do it in fastboot. Hence why the command starts with "fastboot".
Boot into fastboot mode (poweroff, then hold back and power). You need fastboot setup, if you don't then unzip the attached file into c:\ and type the commands:
Code:
cd\
fastboot erase recovery
REMEMBER TO DO THIS AFTER YOU HAVE SET EVERYTHING UP
I made a mistake by making my question.
I was wrong because "fastboot" is in the same folder as "adb" on my computer.

For your information we do not use "Windows" at home, but "Kubuntu".
Thank you again for your advices and quick answers.

Oh, then if you have fastboot set up then don't worry about the file I attached. Yes, after you finish installing and modding everything (remember after you flash cyanogenmod you need to flash google apps), then I'd recommend wiping recovery... this way your kid can't accidentally boot into it and start erasing/ installing stuff.

http://whiteboard.ping.se/Android/Rooting (for unlocking the boot.img)
Foreground
A Chaina re-branned phone
A fastboot mode
A useless recovery mode
A locked boot.img (thats why even chmod or simply pushing a su will not root the phone)
A IMEI number(which if you mess up after flashing, you will not get any radio signals)
1)First Unlock the Boot IMG
Before you proceed I will strongly recommend to download the tutorial guide ppt that you will find in Recent Activity list at the top of this post
You need to tamper permission after extracting the boot.img for this.No worry guys i have already done that for you .Just download the below file
Unsecured Boot Image
Now a bit critical part, read carefully .This unlocked image needed to be flashed to your device. For that you need research download and firmware pac file.
Download this to files from the below links
PAC versions & Tools Download
(pac file,driver,research download all included)
Download this drivers and install, after successfull installtion you will have(under device manager)
1.ABD interface
2.two COM ports
3.two emulators
If any of this having yellow sign it will not work.
Open research download
click on first button and load pac file
click on second button change baudrate to 115200,in calibration tab uncheck all.
For BOOT_IMG option browse and select the unlockedboot.img that you downloaded now.
plugin the usb cable(DON'T plugin the phone now)
click on play button
PRESS & HOLD VOLUME UP KEY and insert the usb cable, don't release the key.
Download should starts within 3 secs.If it doesn't then check the drivers carefully or reply to this thread with failures.

YES!! you have successfully unlocked the boot.img
2)WiseMen Backup!!
First thing you should do before any tweaking and twisting save your back!!.Install CMW using the below method straight away and save your back.
1.Download .andriod.zip,extract it and save it under C:\Users\<computer name>\<paste it here>
http://www.mediafire.com/download/ga5tk2h89m41ddk/.android.zip
2.From your phone got to application-->developer option-->enable usb debugging
3.Now plugin your phone through micro usb cable.
4.Download this zip ,extract and place in under c:/<paste it here>
http://www.mediafire.com/download/s2as5grqceqtqq3/Android_Multi_tool.zip
5.Open a command prompt type
Code:
cd C:\Android Multi tool
C:\Android Multi tool>fastboot devices
20080823 fastboot
Note:you will NOT be able to proceed further if this doesnt shows up.Double check the andriod.zip has adb_usb.ini file.
Now we will flash a custom recovery image in fastboot mode.
Code:
C:\Android Multi tool>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (10240 KB)...
OKAY [ 10.487s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 3.425s]
finished. total time: 13.918s
7.Reboot your phone.
8.Now got to CMW using Volume up + power button and do a backup.
3)Push superuser zip & ROOT!!!
This the easiest step among all of them.Download the below file, put it under sdcard and flash it through CMW.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/t55b6ebzvx9yf1f/update.zip
THAT'S IT you are rooted!!!
REMEMBER,PROBABILITY OF BRICKING IS MINIMUM AS I HAVE ALREADY DONE ALL THE TEST FOR YOU GUYS !!!.STILL IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG DONT PANIC,JUST FLASH A FIRMWARE AS MENTIONED ABOVE(point 1) EVENIF YOUR PHONE IS
TOTALLY DEAD .

http://whiteboard.ping.se/Android/Rooting (for unlocking the boot.img)
Foreground
A Chaina rebranned phone
A fastboot mode
A useless recovery mode
A locked boot.img (thats why even chmod or simply pushing a su will not root the phone)
A IMEI number(which if you mess up after flashing, you will not get any radio signals)
1)))First Unlock the Boot IMG
You need to tamper permssion after extracting the boot.img for this.No worry guys i have already done that for you .Just download the below file
http://www.mediafire.com/download/1c6r9cu9iwc3769/boot.zip
Now a bit critical part, read carefully .This unlocked image needed to be NAND flashed to your device. For that you need research download and firmware pac file.
Download this to files from the below links
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f811/guide-all-micromax-root-clockworkrecovery-1627895/
(pac file,driver,research download all included)
<IT WILL ONLY WORK IN 32 BIT WINDOWS XP,VM ALSO FINE>
Download this drivers and install, after successfull installtion you will have(under device manager)
1.ABD inteface
2.two COM ports
3.two emulators
If any of this having yellow sign it will not work.
Open research download
click on first button and load pac file
click on second button change baudrate to 115200,in calibaration tab uncheck all.
For BOOT_IMG option browse and select the unlockedboot.img that you downloaded now.
plugin the usb cable(DONT plugin the phone now)
click on play button
PRESS & HOLD VOLUME UP KEY and insert the usb cable, dont release the key.
Download should starts within 3 secs.If it doesnt then check the drivers carefully or reply to this thread with failuers.
Once done unplugg your phone and remove battery for 3 second
Reinsert battery and restart your phone.
YES!! you have sucessfully unlocked the boot.img

You should not flash anything before you have unlocked the boot.img.It comes with a locked boot so flashing through fastboot may not work.
First thing that you should do now is stage up a windows xp with the drivers that i have linked here.connect your phone with research download and do a firmware flash. This will recovery your phone to its orginal state. Then follow my steps from the start(pls dont skip)

you should have micro sd card, and it should be in fat32 formatted.Better if you backup your data in sdcard, format it with fat32 and then place only the update.zip

Dont get me wrong but i think it is better to log your errors here as it might help others as well as me to correct the OP.
Once you have the setup use exact set of drivers and pac file that i linked in this thread.remember if you have a successful driver installation then you will have at least(under device manager)
2 new COM ports
2 emulators
I am working on capturing few snapshots or a demonstration guide,it will take time as i recently lost my bag-pack,will update with videos once i stage up.

check all files in main page, but for boot_img browse a select the unlocked boot.img that i have linked in this thread. The idea is to flash the unlocked boot.img instead of stock boot.img. Uncheck all in calibration page.Keep baudrate 115200
Also download the ppt that i just added. It may help you. Don't give up,setting the drivers will take trails & errors but i guarantee you the success
