HTCSense.com apk - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

Could someone extract htcsense.com apk from their phone, and post it somewhere?
Thanks

I dont think thats going to be possibly as the whole interface is embedded deep in the OS. I'm not sure about individual apps though.
My question was is it possible to RIP the news app ?

Sense can't be ripped and mixed with vanilla or any other Custom UI(Samsung, moto, etc) it's completely dependent on htc's framework. The main app would be Rosie.apk, which you can rip from any sense/mysense rom, it would only be good for ripping the images or wallpapers.

but it is useful to ppl that have sense

I was pretty sure that was the answer, but if you dont ask you dont get !

it makes "sense"
anyway, and beyond a sigle-app transplant between Vision variants (Euro, Bell, Tmo), the main target is full firmware swapping in a -probable- near future

Magic/ION/Google ROM on the Hero!

Hi Guys!
I have been searching for days if someone has managed to install a clean google rom on his HTC Hero. I can only find people running rooted Hero Roms.
The point is, i want to get rid of all the HTC Apps. I've managed to delete a lot of the stock applications, and it improved the speed a lot!
If i install any other "Magic based rom" the phone will hang on the HTC boot screen.
If i push original google apps like "contacts.apk/.odex" to the phone, they won't run.
Can someone port the original Magic/ION rom to the Hero please? I know a lot of people want to run a "clean android" rom on the hero.

My phone is rooted now with Modaco / CyanogenMod v1.4 + JF.

I cannot see the point why someone would want that . No offense , i mean all the HTC customisation and Rosie was the whole point in buying this device instead of the HTC Magic( which has the exact same specifications and a way lot cheaper)

To be honest, i don't really know why i bought the hero. I didn't know much about android at the time i bought one. Now i know better, but anyway, that's not what i want to discuss..
The magic can almost run any rom, why can't the hero run any rom i want?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please people, i don't want to be a jerk, but don't come up with questions like "Why did you buy a hero then?" ..

I'm on the same boat. When I bought my hero I hadn't really seen any working Android phone, either stock or HTC. Now that I have seen both I think that the stock apps and interface are somehow saner than HTC's, and what can I say? I'd prefer to use them.
Why don't you run the Rosie remover. It will get you part of the way to where you want to go
Indeed! but I also prefer the stock browser, the stock music player, the stock calendar, the stock contact list and dialer... and so on. They look less flashy but handier to my taste.
I totally agree with, frandavid100. I would also love to have a vanilla android rom on my Hero.
Actually, why do magic roms not work with the hero? What kind of modification would you have to do for them to work?

I think that the hero rom is not like the win rom. i mean all the htc customisations superimposed on the windows ones. There, all we had to do was just to remove the htc ones and we automatically got the windows ones.
I guess android's different. we have to remove all the htc customisations and add android's ones. Problem is hero never had the android's applications. what could be done is take a magic rom, remove all the applications and try to port them to the hero.
Problems would definetely arise cause the 2 phones are not 100% identical. some software work on the magic but not on hero bla bla bla.
I know some stock apps do work with the hero. I have been able to use the stock calendar and browser in my hero by replacing the apk and odex files, however replacing the contacts app makes it hang.
We could try to make a list of what apps can be replaced and how, or maybe even make update.zip files specific for that, similar to modaco's rosie remover. How difficult would that be?

I think that you'll probably find that the difference here is that chefs with a Magic or G1 actively want to "upgrade" to the latest and greatest ROMs. So, when presented with a Hero ROM, they will make the effort to back port it to the hardware they have.
The situation with the Hero is a little different. Here we already have the "latest and greatest", so there is probably very little motivation for a chef to port what is essentially an earlier ROM to the Hero. What you need to find is a chef who has a Hero, who either wants to run stock android, or is interesting in the intellectual challenge!
So, it's not really the case that "the magic can almost run any rom" - it's that their are chefs with Magics who are building these ROMs.

Dave
Thanks guys!
I knew i wasn't the only one who wanted a clean vanilla android rom on the hero. Like frandavid100 said before, till there's another "magic rom" or something, we could make a list of apps working on hero.
I've had the same thing with the Contacts.app. This makes the phone freeze, and after removing the battery it constantly reboots.
If we all together manage to make a list of apps, i can create an update.zip which does all the work.

Let's do a test. I know you can replace HTC's browser with Android's. I'm attaching the files for both, can you create an update.zip that removes the HTC files from /system/apps, and pushes the stock ones?
EDIT: failed to upload the files to the forum. You can get them here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TVL3Y8UE

I will do that tomorrow ok? I live in The Netherlands and its 09.35pm and i'm watching a movie
BTW: I also have a stock Magic/ION image. I can extract the apps from there as well. Tomorrow i'll try some apps.
Thanks for the effort guys!
Just another quick post. Below you'll see a list of apps which i'm going to try tomorrow. Please post request apps if i forget one.
- Contacts (probably doesn't work)
- Phone (unknown - probably same as contacts)
- Browser (probably works)
- Music Player (probably works)
- Messages/sms?
- Camera (unknown)
- Albums (probably no multitouch)
- Camcorder (don't know if this one is available)
- Calender (probably works)
- Calculator (unknown)
- Clock (don't know if this one is available)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW; If you guys want the original android lockscreen, just remove HtcLockScreen.apk/odex. After reboot you'll have the original android lockscreen where you have to press "menu" to unlock. Works faster and ofcourse no lag!
Hey, if you come back during the ads... can you point me to that stock rom? I'd like to try some of those too.
I can advance that Browser and Calendar do work (I'm using them right now).

I am sorry.. i'm at my girlfriend and don't have my laptop with me tomorrow i'll post some links to different roms we can work with. But i can assure you they won't work on the hero.
Im also going to try to port the sapphire keyboard to the hero. Don't know if someone already did this, i haven't used google yet.
Actually, the keyboard is one of the few things I like from HTC's customisations I'll give the sapphire one a try tho!

HTC Desire Live Wallpaper

I was googling and i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647837
to all the developers, does anyone think this live wallpaper can be ported to the hero? it would be great instead of having just the static wallpaper.
There are live wallpapers for hero. For example on villainrom.
i think he means the Bokeh wallpaper. You can buy it on the market but it eats up ram on the nexus so i never bought it
no its different, you know the desire wallpaper? its a live wallpaper version of that, like you see in the TV adds
I fail to see your point. Do you want to have this live wallpaper run on the hero or do you want LWP to run on the hero in general? Because if you can run LWP on the hero in general, you sure can run this one too, but I'm afraid it's gonna be slow. If you want to run this LWP on the hero, you first have to enable LWP in general which brings us back to starting position. So yeah, basically, whatever you meant, as I said villainrom is the only rom AFAIK to support LWP with sense. Then you have to buy the bokeh LWP from the market and apply it and you're done.

My friend has the Desire and that one you are meaning is called HTC Sense in the LWP List...otherwise known as Bokeh Live wallpaper...
would anyone know how to get live wallpaper on a ROM that doesn't have it?
As I say for like... 3825923589th time, team villain apparently knows and got LWP to work on their rom. If you are a dev and want to implement it, ask them. If you are a user, flash villain10. Can we consider matter closed, or should we wait for 50 more questions of the sort "I want LWP on my hero! How?"? Thanks!

I know that Villain can do it but I don't use their ROM so I just wanted to know if there was a way to do it. I'm not a user who enjoys harassing devs about things I want on their ROM if I can do it myself. Next time I won't bother asking if I have to deal with someone as unpleasant as yourself

Although HomerSp is nice and friendly, he is slightly incorrect in his assumption. Seeing your sig, you are using Cronos droid and in case that is the 1.7 version, you can apply the LWP fix, but it will break your theme and still you won't be able to use LWP. And still I don't see why you have to bother other devs (like HomerSp) in order not to bother Feeyo. It wasn't all that hard to do a nandroid and try it without asking people whether you can do it. And sorry about being anal again, but if you would like to do things yourself, do you have to ask about every single thing? Just do it - if it works, great, if it doesn't - go harass Feeyo about it.

This is what i was asking, this lwp is the same concept as the bokeh one, but its not the same.
I tried pushing it, but it force closes when you try to use it. I also tried flashing the whole zip, which contains lib files as well, but then my phone wouldn't boot up

Yes it doesn't work and I don't consider it bothering when my question is not directed at anyone but they do try and help, also I was unaware of the file and I would have done a Nandroid and flashed it myself if I was aware of it in the first place, not to mention I searched for a day or two looking on XDA and google for any possibility to get LWPs to work on a Hero without using another ROM but I came up empty handed I tried to push some LiveWallpaper.apk and LiveWallpaperPicker.apk to see if it would have any affect but it didn't so I was stumped so I asked when I tried everything I could think of. I am not a dev or a theme so I have no way of knowing how the internals of Android works I don't know any coding languages even though I tried when I was a bit younger to no success and I have put in a request to Feeyo to have it on the next version he releases.
Ok, ok, sorry. Guess I was bit too harsh, but I didn't realize you didn't find the fix on villain forums... I'm afraid I've started resembling kendon in attitude On the LWP with sense topic - I think you need some modifications done on the rosie, so any rom with custom themes will have problems. Also you might need a deodexed rom (as the update only contains rosie.apk and not a rosie.odex), so I guess it will be hard for a non-dev to work things out and modify the villain fix to the cronos rom.
Anyway, the thread apparently has different purpose - that is porting specifically the bokeh LWP to work with hero and not getting LWP to work in general, so I guess we were a bit off-topic for which I apologize.

The thread to help us replace HTC Dialer+HTC Contacts with AOSP and syncing contacts

I know the title may be confusing.
BUT, on literally even ROM i use i remove anything HTC, the only things I must leave in are HTCContacts.apk and HTCDialer.apk. Sometimes the HTCCamera but only if AOSP cam not included. Anyways, the reason those two must be left in is because your contacts will NOT sync if they arent there. Even if they are there and are frozen through Titanium Backup the sync works. However remove them and it dies. I have tried several different Contacts+Phone apks +renamed nothing... If it is a Sense-based ROM those have to stay in there.
Can someone help on the issue please. I know I am not the only one affected by this... All the Senseless ROM chefs know about it, I'm sure (minus true AOSP as CM6+)
sidenote... another htc thing that can be removed which i hate is in /system/framework. called com.htc.rss.jar. no one likes rss anyways
Brace on getting flamed by all the people that think they are mods.
Have you tried replacing contactsprovider.apk with an AOSP one? The rom in my sig doesn't have htccontacts.apk. im still working on phone though I mislabeled the original post.

Ok so here's the deal. With Sense, HTC modifies the Android source to a high degree. Because of this its hard to replace or remove certain files. The contacts provider or social networking service for example. So we need to figure a way to replace those files properly or remove the need for apps like the dialer. I think the key lies in the Android source.

Contacts should be workable to put on a different rom but the dialer and lockscreen are heavily tied into framework-res.apk and would take a lot of hackery to get them to work elsewhere.

Porting Roms from *** To the Evo

I assume this is the correct forum otherwise please move this.
What is the best article(s) to read if you want to start learning how to port roms from other android phones to the Evo? I've been searching on here and on google and it seems most articles are either outdated or only talk about editing existing cooked roms so I finally broke down and posted this. Yes I do use Linux and I do program in Java and .NET and do have a bachelors in software development but I have just never looked into doing this type of work until now.
Thank you, any direction I'm pointed in is appreciated.
I'll direct to you the Q&A forum.
Side Note:This goes in General, but im nice so ill answer you question.
There is no real BOOK to read, a java book is a good start, but you say you know java, so you can probably skip that.
Basically, this is all you have to do.
Download "Dsixda's Kitchen" to your linux distro(amazing software)
Grab a rom from another device.
Grab one of our(evo)stock roms(deodexed Stock 3.70 is good for froyo port,4.12 for gingerbread)
Open the kitchen, and find the option(#19 i think it is), and follow the steps to port it(hold on, your not done yet)
From there you will need do some manual work by tinkering with libs, tinkering with the boot.img, bascally just tinkering with everything related to booting(libs,ramdisk,hw-libs,etc.) untill you can get it to boot or bootloop.
If it boots, thats great, if it bootloops, youlle need to logcat it then debug it.
If you need help with something, pm me, other than that, thats basically(*note: i said basic, more complexed roms like sense 3.0 and non-htc device rom may require extra work)(*note2:alot of times, its going to be a no-booter, but just keep trying.)

Don't forget some of the most important stuff is in the build.prop and update-script.
Word of advice, look at a sense 2.1 and check out the base that was used. You can also use beyond compare and basically skip Linux all together. Using kitchen to deodex the ruu is a good first step. Choose option 11 in the menu.
Personally, I would start off with a working port and changing apps and moving stuff around. Also get a good list at which libs are associated with what. But use stock bins, etc, xbin, hw libs, and ported apks, framework, and software associated libs. Stock boot.img and a good updater-script. Also know key
Things like the EVO density is 160, vold_stab is usb, amkd is rotation, gsl hw accel stuff like that.
But first things first, Google is ur friend and use the q&a section.

ah yes, forgot about build.prop, and i think the kitchen takes care of updater script(unless the device has specific mount pointsor you want text or to clear cache and system). i was just getting the basics to boot, from ther he can debug the errors out of the log.
What about something A LOT simpler like adding the CRT animations to a ROM? any pointers? Any TUT you can point me to?

I'm actually glad this thread is still here we don't get to learn much from the devs here. I mean its mostly do it yourself but a getting started guide isn't a bad thing. Mods are quick to move and people are quick to flame but I say leave it, where else is the knowledge pool? Can you really learn this stuff in Q and A seems like it would be mostly help my phone doesn't boot...

Check out the APKTool, APKManager threads. Lots of great valuable information in there.
I sometimes wish XDA focused more on the "HOW TO" and less on the delivery aspect. The more folks developing, the further we will be along
Another great way to get started is to mentor with another established developer.

Well said. People love to flame anyways and XDA is famous among other Android forums for being so harsh. This thread helped me out big time, and it's especially nice to see Leoisright and myn in here giving up a few pointers, because I too was curious about porting. I never worked up the confidence to ask, just too worried about it being passed over or getting flamed because I'm young and curious.

Yes I was afraid to post this at first which isn't good, you shouldn't be afraid to ask questions but I get that sometimes the same questions have been answered 100 times prior so I understand the quick to judge portion of it. But I want to thank everyone who has contributed tips, advise and places to start. Thank you.

So I've been looking at beyond compare, did you use this from everything and just edit all the non evo files to match existing evo ones from within windows?
