When I plug in my earphones my phone starts to call the last person I spoke to. This happens a couple of times in a row and then it stops and I can watch video or play music without interruption. Does anyone have an idea what this is and how I can fix it?
Had the same problem here ....Can not figure it out either. I have the HTC headset that connects directly into the usb jack'. Sometimes it will happen constantly and other times never happen. I noticed though when it starts to happen and I soft reset the phone it seems to stop the issue for a while. I have two different headsets and the same thing happens to both. But it definitely only happens when there is a headset in use.
I've had this happen a few times (just a couple times over the course of a year), while plugging in the HTC adapter that came with the Tilt 2, that looked like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Mini-USB-Headset-Adapter-2-5mm-3-5mm/dp/B002HNTHKM
I use this adapter in the car, to charge the phone and connect the audio to my car stereo via the 3.5mm jack.
With this same setup, I've also randomly (just a few times also) received a message on the phone's screen to pick the output type (NTSC or PAL) for the video out adapter (when obviously, there is no video out adapter connected).
It APPEARS (not certain) that the times that my phone dialed itself, the adapter was not quite properly seated in the phone's ext-USB jack. Since the HTC headphones have the ability to place calls, I'm thinking there is something going on with the ext-USB jack and plug (short circuit, fouled connection, etc.), where it thinks you are pressing the call button on the HTC headset.
I've seen similar posts on these forums, where the video-out message was possibly traced back to bent pins on the ext-USB jack. Maybe you have a similar issue. Its possible you have bent/damaged pins on the ext-USB jack on your phone, of on the headset plug. Try examining the headset plug, and the ext-USB jack on the phone for broken, missing pins, etc. If possible, try a different HTC headset, and see if the issue persists.
I am currently having this issue and it also only happens when the adapter is plugged into my phone. So does that mean the connection on the adapter could be defective? Is there a way to disable automatic calling from the earphones?

This is often an issue with the adapter or headset you are using. Try another one. Its possible the pins in the phone's ExtUSB socket are bent/damaged. There was a similar thread about this a little while ago. The OP tried a different headset, and it solved his issue.

What am I doing wrong?
Do you have a case on? Make sure your line-in cable is all the way in. The phone is getting confused because the way the cable is seated. It thinks that it's a headset with a mic. I had the same issue, I use app killer, take off my case and make sure the cable is well seated in the phone. If you see a headset with mic icon instead of just the headset re-seat the cable and try again.

I don't use a case and my cable is just a simple computerAUX. I'll have to pay attention to the icon.
Thanks for your help. : )

It is probably a problem with the connections in the headphone port on the phone. I just had my phone replaced because any slight bump of the phone would change tracks, pause music, etc...
A while back I had the same problem with a TP2 and had to have it replaced.
I have a thread on here about the same thing. Mine is getting replaced by verizon. It's shorting out on the line and it thinks you're hitting a button on a headset. It doesn't happen to every phone I guess.
Check out my thread, lots of info from different people.

Hi,
I have the standard HTC Audio adaptor which contains the button mic to speak if required. I tend to use the adaptor to listen to music. However it has now got confused ie when I plug it into the Touch Pro 2 the sound continues to come out of the phone speaker. When I click on the button and hold the button down I hear the music through the external wired connected speaker. Also I sometimes see the "video Out" settings come up on my phone. Is the capable broken and needs replacement or is there some setting that I need to check. I was changing speakers while the phone was playing to compare sound and may have also accidentally clicked the button. So is it confused? Seen this before or am I in for a new adaptor?
Thanks,
Sam
P.s I have tried resetting the phone.
I have a weird problem. When I plug my phone into my car charger I lose the voice and other alerts in Google Maps and other applications that 'speak' or give alerts. Not entirely. I still get sound in some apps (Tested with Angry Birds for instance). Unplugging the charger it works fine.
So I took it indoors to test on the original charger and cable and also on a USB cable attached to my PC. It worked fine. Hmm. Odd. So I took it back to the car charger and lo and behold it also works fine.
Puzzling.
My only thoughts are when the phone is going from sleep to car charger it causes this bug to surface.
I'm running JJ Hybrid 3.1 at the moment and one of the later ArcKnight kernels.
Anyone else come across this issue and/or have a fix/workaround?

Did u test other kernel/roms?
Not yet no. Just tested again after a long sleep and it's doing the same thing on a USB cable connected to the PC. Guess I will have to try another ROM and kernel after all.
Well I tried changing the kernel from ArcKnight to Radeon but it made no difference. It seems to just randomly cut out when the USB cable is plugged in. A reboot sorts it out for a while. I am wondering if it's some rogue service or the fact I disabled some framework elements using Autostarts. I think all I can do is flash another ROM and run it with minimal apps for a while. I will look into flashing the new stock ICS ROM that just came out.
OK figured out what the problem was. It was the bluetooth connection to my car stereo kicking in (hence why it worked on a charger away from the car). If I was listening to a radio station bluetooth was still enabled and sending audio alerts from the phone to the car stereo so I could not hear them. If I changed to bluetooth audio on the car stereo I could hear them, So it was a simple matter of disabling media audio in the phones bluetooth settings.
I've put this reply in so if anyone else has the same issue they can search for the answer.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced this issue as Google shows. Has anyone found a fix to the stupid headphone jack not working thing. How if you use certain devices the phone will not output audio. Like the aux in my car or at my work? BT works fine. Headphones work fine its mainly aux. Unplugging the device and replugging it a few times will eventually solve the issue. the thing I think is funny. I plug my aux in and it shows the little aux symbol on my phone in the status bar. but as soon as I start Google Music, it goes away and disables the aux cable. obviously that is a software thing. Is anyone working on it?

I run soundabout pro and never any issue with my aux out with any device I was plugged into
Soundabout only somewhat works for my headphones.. Powered headphones really confuse the crap out of this device.
Lol

Hi
just set up the device and all went fine, trying youtube music for the first time.
after some seconds the music disappeared with crackle sound through ehadset on highest volume.
unplugging and replugging the 3,5mm headset through adapter that came with device on usb c there was an electrical crack sound in the headset when un- and replugging.
closing the app and relaunching worked for a short time then sound disappeared on one ear. same crack in ears on (un)plugging.
second headset no difference, but then it works without any issues when using headset volume just one step below max volume.
so this is a known issue on that device, software thing or hardware thing?
evreything else is fine, should we cross check built in speaker on highest volume for crackles to chekc the hardware or do headset through usb c and built in speaker run throught two different output stage/amplifier circuits?
thx for any help
Yea this is happening. There is another thread here also talking about it. It drives me crazy... Seems to be software related (hope so), as some people said installing another rom solves the issue. I also noticed (at least until now) that the problem seems to involve instagram, everytime I had this issue, I checked and instagram was opened on background. I don't remember having the issue when I close instagram beforr plugging the headphone. Not sure about the relation though, still needs to test more.
I will install xiaomi.eu rom soon to test if this happens there also.
Btw, what miui version are you running?

Whatsapp aswell is a big issue. Some people said replacing the typec/jack adaptor works.. but i dont have another one for the moment to test.
ah, just saw the other thread, 2 sites already
so at least no hardware issue, at least not the device, maybe the adapter
thought about buying bluetooth or usb headset anyway as i think even if only some grams the 3,5 on the adapter always tears a little bit on the cord/usb c plug over weeks/months/years and might affect the port
after a restart and reinstalling youtube music i could not reproduce it anymore
have been listening half an hour music without any issues and had a phone call another 25 minutes with headset without sound issues
running global version with
global 10.2.9.0 PFBEUXM
while PFBEUXM should stand for eu anyway?
is there a way to flash another official rom without rooting/unlocking the device and loosing warranty?
thx
